A putt that will leave your head spinning… 😵

- In the final round of THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT 2021, Seonghyeon Kim’s three-foot birdie attempt just misses and hangs on the edge of the cup. 30 seconds later, the ball drops in the hole. A rules official would later access a one-stroke penalty to Kim, since Kim exceeded time without unreasonable delay and the ball was deemed to be at rest. Therefore, Kim’s score on the par-5 18th hole was a par, not a birdie. #Shorts

“Suck my white a$$ ball!!”
Isn’t there something like a 10 second time limit? I don’t know all the rules but I do know there is a time limit on this being counted as a single stoke.
You have a reasonable amount of time to reach the ball, after that the 10 seconds starts. After 10 seconds a 1 stroke penalty is added if you haven’t already putted it in.
Yeah I saw a similar one happen before but it was a couple minutes. The ref said it counted as a stroke cause it was more than 10 seconds
There is. He wasn't awarded the birdie for this one either

A shadow can cause the grass to move. Sometimes it’s enough to make a ball drop in if it’s that close.
That man turned from back to white in a second
Desperately unlucky, then lucky, then copped a 1 shot penalty for exceeding the time limit. 🤷🏻♂️
😮
I think the reason he backed off was that he saw it starting to roll over and not because of the fan saying, “Oh no!” In that situation he would be entirely correct to back off and avoid addressing the ball. Plus the time limit outlined in the rules is there not so much as an exact amount of time in every case but rather to prevent guys from standing there for a ridiculous length of time. He walked past, had a reasonable pause, and moved to tap it in. I think he was good in rules terms. A super short putt will always get a few extra seconds too considering a 50ft putt you get all that time to saunter to the hole before the time begins.
Si
@@Ditmanppi Rule 13-3 says (loosely), once the ball is at rest, you have reasonable time, without delay to reach the ball (no mention of addressing it 🤷🏻♂️), then a subsequent 10 seconds. If the ball drops after the 10 seconds, a 1 stroke penalty is applied.
The “reasonable time” is a bit ambiguous, and you could argue he was unlucky. That’s why we all love golf, haha
I pretty sure he was well within time allowed for such things. Almost gurntee it. Shot clocks belong in basketball games not golf or baseball.
If you’re ever in this situation. Use your shadow over the ball. It somehow effects the blades of grass and any movement=drop
Changes the temperature and makes them flop over a little more
He put pressure near the hole it had nothing to do with his shadow. When he stepped closer to the hole he changed the level of the grass. Looks like whoever cut the hole didn't allow the edges around the hole to level he kept them raised.
@@michaelsutherland9337Nope. It was the shadow. It's well known in professional golf.
If you watch at the exact time the shadow goes over the ball for a split second is exactly when it drops
"The Shadow knows!"
Everyone knows put your shadow on it!!
Yep, he should have done that immediately when it didn't fall. My guess is the slight change of temperature on the ball when it's in the shadow is enough to cause it to move slightly.
Sorry, but this is BS
@@drywater_ dude the blades of grass point up towards the sun when u put them in shade the grass blade will move. Not enough for a human eye to see tho
It’s prolly just the weight of your body putting micro seismic shakes into the ground which is enough to tip it. Not enough time for the grass to react to the lack of sun but I could be wrong.

Ball was overhanging for 26 seconds. So even if you gave him a generous 5 seconds to reach the ball, it's still way over the 10 second limit. Penalty stroke and the ball is hold. Rule 13-3

The ball wasn’t at rest yet.

@@doopness785 wrong. The ball "at rest" has nothing to do with it. If the ball stopped and it took more then 10 seconds to fall in counts as another stroke. The rule sucks imo but it is what it is. Rule 13.3 - Ball Overhanging Hole.
If any part of your ball is overhanging the lip, you are allowed a reasonable time to reach the hole and then a further 10 seconds to wait and see whether it will drop.
If it does, you’ve holed out with your previous stroke. If it doesn’t, the ball is then treated as being at rest.
I counted that out... he went way beyond 10 seconds. He signed an incorrect score card and should have been disqualified.
@Jon Lanier Plus the reasonable time to reach the hole... literally a million people watching, but they're all wrong except for you? You should wear a sign.
"Reasonable time" to reach the hole is ambiguous, he walked in zig zag, but when he reached the ball it did not take more than 10 seconds before it dropped in.
@@njerunjiru609 he was 5 feet away... 20 seconds is not a reasonable time. 2-3 seconds to react, 2 steps to reach the ball. 20 seconds for a 40 foot putt is pretty long.
He took way more than 10 and he was already at the hole. So +1

I once hit an 8 iron to a par3 hole that I knew was close. Drove the cart to the green. Walked onto green only to see the leaner fall into the hole within seconds. I was on the green when I made a hole in one....What are the odds of that?
Sounds like you were actually disqualified on the hole, not supposed to drive the cart to the green need to keep it in the fairways/rough or on the path.
@@silvermediastudio Are you serious?....I drove to the green not on the green Ace. What a dufus.

"don't you love this game?"
No...no we don't.
Don't say "we" when you mean "I".
The answer lies in the subjective nature of the rule.
USGA Rule 13.3a - “Waiting Time to See If Ball Overhanging Hole Will Fall into Hole” - states, “If any part of a player’s ball overhangs the lip of the hole, the player is allowed a reasonable time to reach the hole and 10 more seconds to wait to see whether the ball will fall into the hole.” If it drops within that time, it counts.
Add it to the score. That’s another shot right there.
Nope. Seen it before, if they step within a foot of the cup or so and ball happens to fall in it doesn't count toward a stroke.
@@22.NUU.DRU.22 you might want to tell that to the rules official who added the stroke for this incident. He took too long. There are rules.
@@22.NUU.DRU.22 Wrong. The golfer was assessed a penalty and the "falling in" counted as a stroke.
A friend (& most excellent golfer) told me, that when a ball is hanging on the edge of a cup like that to shade the ball.
He said, use your shadow to block the sun & that sometimes that's enough for the grass to wilt just enough to allow the ball to fall in.
(I never had a chance to try it so ???)
I thought you were only allowed to wait 10 seconds for it to drop.
Correct which is why he was penalized one stroke and this was carded as a Par.
Vibrations from feet n subtle breeze from club swing gave the ball a little push.

That cup looks huge.
According to the rules of golf, he is disqualified
Mind explaining that??
How's that?? He didn't address the ball and he is allowed a small amount of time before his next shot😊
He addressed the ball. Moving the air. Counts as a shot
Ground vibration by walking around. Tiger did same with famous Nike swoop drop as he rushed toward the hole with ball perched on the edge.
Thank you! Been trying to explain this to the guy who thought the wind from the putter pushed it in...stepping within a foot of the cup has often led to the ball falling in, and no extra stroke correct?
Not even close to the same situation. Tiger did not rush towards the hole on #16 at the 2005 Masters. He and his caddie, Stevie, remained where the shot was hit and watched the ball as it went up the slope and then went down the fall line into the hole. Rule allows for a reasonable amount of time to reach the hole then, ten seconds before having to putt.
The sound waves from that “Oh No!”🌬️

Smart. Used little bit of wind from putter passing ball.
No good. It took 18 seconds for the ball to fall. You only have 10 seconds
I counted 28 seconds... your clock is broke
10 seconds from when the player addresses the ball. He milled around in dismay a while, which bought him some time.
@@topgrain You don't get to buy time, the rules state "a reasonable amount of time to approach the ball" as in the time it would take someone to walk up to it and address it.

Once the ball comes to rest. Duh.
Man of sience here: hearing that there is a 10 sec tome penalty for not hitting the ball after getting to it in 'a timely manner'.
But because the ball went in on it's own, the ball was still arguably in motion, which is also aginst the rules in golf.
와
This is where proper course etiquette is vital, as he was SUPPOSED to call to the ground and start yelling at the hall saying “That’s your HOME!!! Don’t you wanna go back to your HOME!!?”
He's also walking all around the hole and swinging his club near it.
