  • Lets get into the HSP46 and learn to drive it with the ATC (Automatic Train Control) and ACSES (Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System) and Alerter. We'll go through the basics of set up and driving and how to interpret the ADU (Auxiliary Display Unit) and what speed to do. I'll also cover how to undertake an emergency brake and recover from it.

    Such an appealing cab setup... A biggggg upgrade from the older cab cars we drove on Boston. ❤

      @@psych-ryry it's more ergonomic that's for sure, I'm still not a fan of cab cars

      @@trainsimulatordriver ya, everything looks nice against the black, the buttons and gauge lights pop out in contrast. I understand your reason for not being big on driving from cab cars; the silver lining is listening to the clickity clack

    For your box, It would be a neat idea to create a box and put a cheap tablet in it like an MFD display (maybe an assortment of train screen pictures of diaks and what not) and then rewire your buttons to what would be the buttons on an MFD console. Would look nice beside the rail driver

      @@trainsimulatordriver love it!!!! the real challenge is choosing which real life design you'd try to emulate... Or maybe you'd be building multiple variations to change out as you like

    I'm trying to figure out how the ATCS and ACSES are supposed to work. I'm playing on Boston Sprinter with the CTC-3 Cab-Car. I understand the restrictions and stuff but i can't really figure out if there is a way to know that there is a restriction coming up. Let's say I'm driving at 45 MPH with a 45 MPH Speed Limit enforced by ATC or ACSES - then suddenly the Speed limit Changes to 30 witout any prior notice. At that point I'm already speeding and wasn't even able to break before the change. So is there something i need to look out for or is this just as the game is intended to work? I assume after doing some research into this topic that the upcoming speed-limit should be announced a signal-block away from the actual speed limit, so you have enough time to react to the change.
    Another Question: Is the number displayed in the middle of the ADU supposed to be my current Speed? Because if it is, then there is something not working with the CTC-3 cab car. The number changes every now and then but never displays my real current speed.
    It's really a shame that dovetail doesn't include an in depth manual on this. The only one i could find was for the AMTRAK ACS-64 from the original NEC-Route for TSW 2020, which isn't hepful beacuse it still doesn't explain my questions and the ACS-64 has a different ADU which works differently than the MBTA locos and cab-cars.

      ACSES speed restrictions will appear on Track Monitor which you can turn on. These are fixed and always in the same place (except for temporary speed limits due to defects or works which the game does not implement). ATC speed drops are because there is a train in front of you, or your route is blocked in some other way (e.g. switch against). The only place you will see these in game is on the ADU. This is as per real life where it also works this way. The ADU does not show your current speed. The loco speedometer does. The ADU has several ways of showing you which speed to do, and you use the lowest speed the ADU shows you along with signal indications and the HUD speed limit to decide. You take the lowest of all of them. The ADU is different from train to train because they are different IRL. Once you get an ATC restriction, even if it goes up again you would drive more slowly to avoid closing the gap and getting pinged again by ATC.

    The cab car with that loco is slow very under powered extremely slow acceleration

      @@Savethepandabears welcome to US commuter trains, the trains have been play tested by real drivers/engineers from MBTA so I expect they're accurate

      @@Savethepandabears while that has been true in the past, I don't think it is today - US commuter diesels are just slow - its reality - as they electrify and adopt European designs like the Stadler KISS trains going into Caltrain commuters are in for a treat.
