Excellent explanation of clutch bite point, learners don't always realise that you need to stop moving the clutch pedal once the bite point has been reached until the car has gathered speed.
My instructor was always telling me to just lift clutch slowly without pausing and with no gas and this was diesel so it did not stall that often but in some cases he was holding clutch for me so I would not stall and telling me to release clutch even slower than last time which was like a speed of snail and I could not go slower When I asked him if I should hold the clutch at some level he just said in theory yes and I was like few more lessons before my exam so I did not have time to learn, only with luck did I really pass, I stalled car once

Yoo thank you so much! This is exactly what i wanted and needed. Watch hundreds of videos and ask friends of mine and they couldn't explain it the way you did. I'm so greatful dude ! All i needed was that somebody explain to me, clutch in and put in first gear then give a little gas while still holding clutch then once you got the revs start letting go of clutch until you hit bite point wait a bit until car starts moving 7 mph or the motor high pitch. But i was doing it wrong, i would released clutch to bite point and then give it gas so i would stall or sometimes kangaroo or take off fast.
Same here :) I was releasing the clutch first and then giving gas. It was wrong. Finally some one explained it to me. Gas first to 1500 RPM, slowly release the clutch to the bite point and keep it there until the motor picks up. Great video!
Awesome explanation, I wish I had a car right now to practise it... (just waiting to buy one and learn to drive)... Keep going plz, you're too good in it
@@symx1096 Depends on the car. Usually diesel cars automatically give a bit of gas as you reach the bite-point. Petrol cars and especially older ones don't, so you need to give a bit of gas. If you are on a plain surface you can get away with only clutch with a petrol car but it's going to be pretty slow and it's bad practice as it's infinitely easier to stall, especially if you were to start on a bit of a hill. When I first learned this on a trafic school we had a noob friendly diesel so I could even take off on steep hills with only the clutch, it was pretty bad practice tho as I had to relearn using gas in combination with the clutch on my old petrol car back home.
I've just started driving my own car - 2 years after passing my test! I had a few refresher lessons but in a diesel car and the clutch felt quite different. I've only done 4 drives so far and keep stalling - and when I tried to do a hill-start, it was an absolute disaster! My friend had to switch with me to drive us up the hill! It has massively shaken my confidence- but my plan is to do exactly this. Go somewhere quiet and flat and spend some time just really getting to grips with the pedals on this specific car so that I can move off without stalling so often, and feel more at one with the bite point. It's either that or give up; which would mean I wasted a lot of time, money and energy to pass my test!
Wonderful video. However, after getting my license and start using a gasoline car I still do not get the complete knack of it. I do all the steps (giving gas first) and I hold the clutch at the bite point for some time, but when I finally release it there is always some light shaking... I dunno if I am holding too long the biting point or I need more gas. It is quite frustrating, lol. Buy thanks a million anyway. You are a Maestro!
Thanks very much I just get starting with mine driving lesson with much anxieties and I felt like ,"I wishing I have well good experienced person like you ".
Wow, I cannot express how helpful this video was! I live in Toronto, Canada where automatic cars are the majority and after driving automatic all these years, I've dedicated 2019 to learning and switching to manual. I took lessons a few weeks ago to test drive cars and now have a MT Hyundai Elantra. Starting off from zero is really the hardest and I came upon your video and decided to use it to practice in the parking lot today for about two hours. What world of a difference I felt when at a red light or a stop sign. When using an automatic car, my right foot is so used to hitting the acceleration harder...it really is different lightly tapping the acceleration for manual. Thanks for making this video and being super clear in your explanation, can't wait to keep using it all week! Im still really slow at switching from gear 1 to 2 when I have taken off from 0....I wonder if you have a video for upshifting and downshifting. Thanks once again!!!
You're welcome, there are some videos for changing gears, I did it in three parts. Take your time and don't feel pressured to do it quickly, if you do it slowly you will do it nicely and get faster without realising it.

Not gonna lie, I sucked at first gear until I realized I only stalled when I disengaged it too early. Two days later I realized I could just hold the bite point steadily until I had enough power, as opposed to revving before easing off and re-engaging when I feel it stall. I still suck at parking, but this video woulda saved me a lot of trouble. I had to learn from other videos just so i could get to my job XD. I don't think anyone else I watched touched on holding the clutch a bit. All they said was "ease off it". Kinda sucks I bought a manual and I'm the only one in my family that was willing and eager to learn to drive one.
I was doing this with my mother and the first time went great. In hind-site it only went well because I was hesitant to lift my foot of the clutch once we started moving. I didn’t stall once that day. Cut to our next session I kept stalling and stalling. Only now watching your video that I’m realising that your supports to keep the clutch at that level for a moment or two. My mother didn’t give this advice. I’ll be sure to use this knowledge next time :)
The only way the bite point was explained to me was "you'll know when you hear it." I didn't know and still don't really know what the different engine noises mean. I keep stalling and jolting the car. It's quite defeating when you can't even get the car to move in the first place. I've taken notes on this video and hope to use them when I practice next. I want to learn how to drive so badly. Thank you for making this video, it is full of such important information :)

It may be worth checking out this video too ua-cam.com/video/O3cTlwMytfU/v-deo.html
@@ConquerDriving already done - but I'm going to rewatch again and again!
Thank you,I successfully stole my dad’s car :)
This one was the best for me. Short and precise. You are a good teacher...

I have this strnge urge to pay this guy now for this key advice
Thank you.
This video is very helpful than my father taught me your explanation is easy to understand and useful for beginner
Man you are a natural in this thanks
This man is great in the way he describes things.

A well informed video, on learning the basics for new drivers.
Loved loved loved....
It was really helpful... M gonna practice it today. In sha Allah
This wasn’t described well to me and I kept stalling. This video gave me all the information I needed to drive smoothly
Nice video dude very helpful. Starting my second session today hopefully I'll get a chance to test this out. Thanks you for the boost in confidence 💪👍
@@ConquerDriving You are absolutely right! I did watch the videos...in fact I watched several last night! Super super helpful! I will continue to reference them for practice!...Not sure what you call highways in the UK...freeways? but will you be doing a video about that?
@@ebunlewis1 We call them highways or Motorways, normally Motorways. I will be doing a video on them in the future, it's on my list.
@@ConquerDriving Oh yes, motorways! Freeways is the US ;) Glad to see you'll be doing a video in the future. Ive clicked the subscribe button! Keep up the great work, your vids are helping peeps all around the world :)
@@ebunlewis1 thank you :)
This was one of the first vids I watched on your channel
It is my first.
They get easy with practise. I personally prefer a manual.
This is exactly what I need to learn!!! Thanks. Subscribed
I learned so much from that beginning some seconds
Really helpful video. I am mostly used to driving automatics but now have a stick. Your video helps me drive smoother. Thanks for posting.
