as a rider who has owned many different types of bikes from many manufacturers, I say ride your ride and look how ever you want. We are all brothers on 2 wheels.
Our 2-wheel community has a shameful sub-group of overpass (to overpass) racers that are just about fast but not organized enough to find an airstrip and host some track days. That group is most visible to the public and , understandably, shade the rest of us. So if brothers they be, Dad needs to spank 'em!
@@OldNotDead-Club well...my Dad's parable may fit : " Two bulls stood on a hill top looking down a a herd of peacefully grazing cows. The young bull got instantly excited and blurted out, "Lets run down there and we'll each get us one of those beauties! The old bull yawned and replied, " Or... we could WALK down an' get 'em all". So, we're in no hurry.. could be 'something' else to do when we get to where ever it is we're goin' . 'Maybe something' FINE at the end of th' line'
I am 59 and have ridden 50 years. I find your page refreshing and real. Aussies are usually to the point. I have two 2002 Harleys'. a Fatboy and a Road King. I have a 2019 Sport Glide and am thinking of selling it as I enjoy the older ones better. I also would like to not have a $350 a month payment.. I also like to get out with my RT1200 RT-P BMW. I do enjoy riding my wife's Indian Scout as well.
I’ve ridden since I was 22 and I’m in my mid 50’s now had a street bike as my first bike and now own a sport bike looking at getting a Harley touring style bike because riding cross country has been on my bucket list since my first bike. Both versions are fun. The biggest thing I’ve learned is it isn’t how fast you go but how well you stop. We all look the same in the morgue………dead. Let’s stay upright and enjoying what we love…….go get a ride in
I am 64 years young and grew up riding dirt bikes, got back on two wheels 6 years ago with a 1200 Sportster. Great bike around town but not much good for longer trips. I now ride a 2009 Cross Bones which I love (especially the springer front end) it has a detachable windshield and saddle bags for longer trips. Like the look of the upcoming model of the Streetglide CVO. I’m not worried about the extra weight, but as a short arse (5’8”) going to have to try it for size. Your videos are great, keep ‘‘em coming👍
I have a 2005 Fatboy and love it. Agree with most of what you said but not the clothing part. I wear what I like and dont care what others think is cool or not. I dont go riding to have people think I am cool I ride because I love the feeling it gives me. If others think I have the wrong jacket or gloves or whatever thats there issue not mine. Apart from that great channel ( I am 67 and in the UK) :)
I'm an uncool old bloke with a chunky seat on my Street Glide and I love it for body position and comfort......doesn't look as good but it makes a huge difference to me
I bought a Breakout in 2018. It came with a stage 1 kit. V&H 2 into 2, heavy breather and tuner. I did a heap of research on what mods I could do to make it quicker and was sort of persuaded to not go aftermarket as it would void my warranty. I was basically talked into getting a SE stage 4 by a dealership. I got it done by a different dealer. I was happy with the result even though I had to ring its neck to see the extra ponies. It wasn't till I had a loan bike from another dealer that I realised I had wasted my money. This loan bike was a Breakout with a different pipe, tuner and heavy breather and a cam. Basically a stage 2 with a aftermarket cam and it was way quicker down low and kept up with mine up high. Lesson learned, If you have to rev it past 4500rpm to see the dividends you wont have your licence long enough to enjoy being a Harley owner.
You're stage 4 isn't a complete waste, other than the SE cam. Put an aftermarket cam in it and a decent tune and you'll be amazed at how shit the SE cam is. It'll feel like a whole new machine. I'm assuming with stage 4 you've gone up to a 128ci? Speak to APE Gladstone and they'll tell you the best cam for the job!
I'm 85 still riding harley since 1956 age has sapped NY strength and balance. Put a sidecar on my bike, 2007 street glide, due increasing weakness ,I am no longer able to use my left leg and foot I purchased a jockey shift so i can shift gears using my left hand it is awkward but it is my only option to keep riding. Take care
If you're buying a big bike and not used to the weight, consider a safety class and or practice, practice...practice slow speed maneuvers and get some crash bars. Getting better all the time and improving one's skills is very rewarding too! Good luck with your new rides!
I really like the way you present yourself as just a friendly guy who enjoys motorcycles, and a guy I'd like to hang out with. Most of the things you talk about are things my buddies and I talk about hanging out in the shop. You have gotten a like each time I've seen one of your videos, and I think your channel is going to grow like CRAZY! Keep up the good work.
I remember wearing a full face helmet on a Harley was taboo. Now you see it everywhere in the U.S. Enjoy the ride the way you want not because a stranger told you so. Stay safe everyone!
Full face helmet has saved my FACE several times over the years. I currently own a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000, a Kymco Spade 150 and a 2022 Harley Heritage Softail.
I bought a Johnny reb leather jacket 2xl fitted well and feels light. But in my opinion feels like fake leather. Yes bought it online during lockdown. Don’t use it now. Funny thing is I am only xl Also bought winter gloves that don’t stop the cold. Also bought a screaming eagle air cleaner that’s suppose to be high flow. Nope. Recently fitted a s and s stealth air cleaner (same as yours) and have noticed a big power difference.
I bought a brand new 2016 CVO Pro Street Breakout. At the time it was the correct choice for me. I used it mainly for day rides around the Adelaide Hills. I absolutely love it still and will never sell it. But now I am married and the wife likes to get out for a ride as much as I do. We are moving up to the Pilbara where the rides will be longer and on more open roads. We need a different style of bike that is suitable for both of us. We will be looking at the road and street glides as well as the Ultra.
I finally have my first Harley, metric Cruiser's and sports before that. I have made all these mistakes not just on Harleys, but on all bikes. Some really great advice in this vid!
I don't ride a motorcycle to "look the part". I ride because I enjoy it. I had an accident 3 months ago where a car cut me off and had no way of avoiding a collision. Luckily (that day) I was wearing my full face helmet and thankful that I did. Had I been wearing one of my half helmets (to "look cool"), I would have likely had my jaw broken in addition to my collarbone and 6 ribs. I am glad to have made it out alive and be able to ride again, but I will only go "so far" to look the part.
I agree 100%. I Ride a V-ROD Muscle so a full-face helmet looks natural, but even when I test rode a 2017 Fat Boy, I wore my own full-face helmet. I think my face is important enough to protect from grinding on asphalt or smashing into solid objects from a potential crash.
I got lucky. I just bought a used 2021 Street Bob 114 with only 1800 miles that has modifications that I would have done. Baja Orange...tank repainted to have the CVO logo in Black. Orange plug wires. Saddleman step up with orange stitching. Z-bars with the perfect rise for me. Stage 2 torque cam, tuned, and black Bassani Ripper exhaust. Sissy bar. AND cruise control! I bought a swing arm bag, LED indicators, phone mount, and will add a Memphis Shades road warrior fairing. The majority of the mods what I would have done that are VERY expensive were already done. The bike rips, and turns heads and is a joy to ride. I don't do alot of extended highway rides. It's just a hop on and get lost and find my way back kind of bike.
I stopped being cool at 75. Now, i just want to be seen. Ride my harley with a red jacket and an optic yellow vest. My goal is to be a 90 year old rider😮
I've had a few basket builds over the years..BSA,Trumpets,Honda 750/4 my Sporty is the VERY FIRST BIKE that there was "no assembly required" and I like the way it handles...small,quick( when necessary) and around 55 mpg if I use the hills...happy to ride when I can
Biggest waste was also my biggest buying mistake. First Harley … after 15 years of not riding due to financial reasons and being jammed up for a few years so to speak. I got a bike based off of how I used to ride.. speed, distance, types of roads .. etc. didn’t take any of that into account bc I didn’t KNOW how somehow I changed as a rider a lot even with that big gape in time. I got a used fatboy. 5k miles .. 2009. Had what I wanted on it .. full VH exhaust, LED headlight, etc. Tires looked really new .. mistake .. didn’t read the manufacturer date. They sold me a bike with 7 yr old tires. Looked fine but after 2 weeks of rockin the hwys in the heat .. started to crack. I landed up on hwys a lot. Riding further and faster.. bad posture for me .. bad back …. So 3 months later I traded it for a stupid deal of a 2019 Road King. $15k. 4K miles. Put 25k on it in 2 years. This year I upgraded to the 2023 Road Glide standard. The forever bike. It’s perfect. But that first Harley prob cost me $7k of wasted loot. But I didn’t want to jump on a shiny Road King when 15 years off the saddle. But sometimes u can’t tell til u get into it. *I had that same fatboy LO u had VH pipes … sooooo loud! Ole lady hated that bike lol.
I’m on my second Harley one thing I learnt from my first one is that there’s no budget it’s all about when you are satisfied with the end product and even with that there’s always room for improvement in the motor because stock motor sucks🤣.. and being cool is for those who are comfortable in there on skin and if someone thinks you are not cool enough is because they have there own insecurities..
Had a laugh watching this, every point hit home. Coming from sports bikes, buying my first Harley has been an all encompassing experience. Now the proud over of a 2022 Ultra Limited in Midnight Crimson and Black two tone in a blacked out bike. Only 4500km on the clock and I'm voiding my warranty with a Stage 2 done properly by a V-Twin specialist this week. Rear suspension already done, fronts on back order. I have the $1200 Harley leather jacket, have the matching open face helmets for the Mrs and myself. We have bought into the lifestyle and image and won't see much change from $60k but loving every minute of it. Wish I had gone down this road years ago.
I am new to the HD clan and have enjoyed my RG immensely in the last 6 months and coming from a dirt/sportbike history it has been change in style and mentality BUT I still wear ICON gear and a full face for the benefits they give me. The beauty about HD and the current trends w MotoAmerica is that the tech and upgrades that were mostly sportbike oriented are now coming to the HD side of things now that the BAGGER racing series have presented different aftermarket possibilities which cross over w my love for sportbikes. My RG is an amalgamation of both sides now, better brakes and suspension along w M8 upgrades that will come this winter, the harley attitude has always been that of an "outsider" attitude being an individual, wear what you wear and screw anyone that tells you what to do otherwise !!
How it looked was never a topic for me. Only the practicality of the bike was a issue, because I new what I wanted to do with the bike and showing off was not one of them. 🤣 So, all the extra part I bought after bying a new Harley was always only for traveling long distance and being on the road for seven or ten day's. Good maintenance was offcourse important, but I never cleaned the bike. Spending the night in the rain during trips is more then enough cleaning. 😆The engine is even a 96CI stock ! 😉
Not lost on me that the first bike shown when talking about "buying the wrong model" is exactly the bike I bought last spring, a '22 Nightster. It was about a month later that I went back and bought a Street Glide. I never ride the Nightster anymore. Lesson learned.
The /OLD NOT DEAD / U /tube segment pretty much covers a lot of actual reality // Im glad to see non B/S and common sense shared to new and old riders // Keep up the good work //
Do save the budget for the nessecities. I wear black leather, vest and chaps with buckle boots. Got more gear than I do sense. I look really cool on my 09FLHTCU and a full face helmet. When I go solo, I drop the tour pack, change out the tour seat, turn up the tunes and look even cooler!!!! When my wife is on back she makes me look even cooler or at the least distracts attention from me!! Thanks Aymen, enjoyoing your videos.
I don't wear the Harley Davidson 'uniform' -- black leather -- while riding my Road King but I do dress for the ride in a RevIt Poseidon GTX riding suit. When I go to the dealer for parts or service, no one will talk to me. But most of those riders never ride further than a tank of gas away from home. I ride my bike from eastern PA to north TX for a weekend ride.
I'm like you I love the looks of my 2017 Street Glide. The only modification I've done is put a taller wind screen on it. Other then that, it is totally stock.
I've been riding motorcycles all my life just started riding in 2006 when I bought my 1st Harley it was a low rider in June I purchased a 22 road king And it's stock I have removed the rear tail light turned signal bar and replaced it with Filler blades from Ciro And Turn signal relocation kit which is a license plate with turn signals and running lights and a light for the license plit's complete but I haven't decided what pipes to put on it because I'm stuck between Wayne which is the best sounding pipes so you should do a segment on pipes if you can
Just about to pull the trigger on a harley soon enough. Making the switch from super sport. Your videos are put together really well. Calming with loads of Info. Plenty to learn but excited for the journey. Got yourself another subscriber. Cheers 🇦🇺
As far as gear goes, agreed; you don't want it to clash with your bike, not if you want to look cool. Just make sure it's armored; flesh & bone wins no wars with asphalt. Upgrades are different for the V-ROD MUSCLE, I've done a few, but I recommend 3 to start with: 1) the HD short passenger rest & rack. They match the bike perfectly and are highly functional (especially for the passenger) 2) Replace those UGLY wimpy sounding exhaust cans with TAB Performance slipons. You'll need to drill out the 4 label rivets (replace with stainless steel screws) in order to remove the baffling material from the baffles. These look great and have an AWESOME sound without baffling material. 3) Replace that dog dish looking rear sprocket. I bought one from a company in the UK that matches the wheels for $600.00 (well worth the money!) My other upgrades: HD Edge cut grips & pegs 2008 Nightrod Special horn & sprocket covers (gloss black; too much silver on the left side with stock covers) Wind shield Air shocks with reservoirs (compliments the drag bike look) License plate frame with bar & shield bolts Front fender extender (helps keep grime off the radiator) Modified open airbox (completely exposes air filter) Screaming Eagle high-flow air filter V-ROD Desyroyer velocity stacks (had to side trim tops to fit inside the air filter) NGK Iridium sparkplugs Catchcan system Drag Specialties hot coils Tuned with Dynojet Power Vision tuner (126 hp & 96 tq) V-ROD mini leather saddle bags (mainly to hide the exposed plastic of the underseat gas tank) with front tool pouch to match Sometime I'll have to learn how to post pictures in the comments
I went with the road glide limited in ‘21. I traded in my ‘19 soft tail. The issue was the RG is primarily a touring bike. It’s not so good around town. I regret trading in the softail as the softail was so much better ( much lighter and nimbler ) in cities.
I've had my 78 shovelhead flh for 30 years now with many mods. Most of these done within the first few years of ownership. Now I wish I would have kept all the original parts. First was a wide glide front end 21 inch wheel and then a fxr rear fender and a 160 90/16 rear tire, tombstone taillight, bdl 3" inch open primary (kick start only). Crome adjustable swing arm, 6 inch risers and drag bars, Santi up-sweep straight pipe exhaust, barebones seat and pillion pad, I removed the signal lights for a cleaner look, the engine is mostly stock except for a cam and electronic ignition. 74 cu in. And other small modifications. It's like a drug addiction, you start with one mod then you have to have another and another in a never ending circle. The only thing that I didn't change was the stock floor boards, they are extremely comfortable for me but I did have to relocate them one inch forward and two inches out to compensate for the three inch open primary. And the heel toe shifter had to go through, big feet. My cool weather jacket is a brown WW2 style bomber jacket with a removable wool lining, zippers for vents in the sleeves and back.
I like your honesty how you talk about the bike and the appropriate apparel. As safe as I would like to be riding I also want to look good and fit the style of riding the particular bike I ride, if you get my drift!
I love my Sharleyn who was born street bob in September of 2015. 8 years on and still looks like day one apart from a few stone chips. Nice contents from your videos brother!
I would like the dual exhaust factory racing muffler for my Buell. Did buy the Buelltooth for programming tunes. Tires are next. It's stock did add auxiliary lights was low miles xxxx at 16 years old.
Good video, thanks! I made the Cam mistake on my M8...a power cam (+25 pk). I did not like it at all. It made the engine so much louder, violent, aggressive and jumpy in 2nd and 3rd gear. I tried it for 2 months and then had the original cams restored. Now it rides smooth again, and i love it! Will a tork cam like a S&S 475 make it louder? And will it still ride smooth?
This is very subjective and hard to answer. My cam has made the bike louder and sound different - more like a Harley. Smooth is relative, all m8 engines are smooth compared to twin cams, which are smooth compared to Evo's etc..
I have a Scorpion Exotech helmet where the chin guard deploys to rear of helmet ,excellent for good or foul weather, a seafaring mate of mine gave me some Helly Hansen base layers ,got my battery heated gloves also.
I’ve wasted money on accessories especially for fairing and windshield. After spending thousands of money on different fairings and windshield i found out my type of riding is best with no fairing or windshield at all. The best money i have spent on is on trainings. My area has basic MSF course, intermediate and advanced MSF course plus special classes on track racing.
My Iron 883 is a scrambler, and I ride it often on fire trails and gravel roads, I have brown leathers and textile gear and a full face dual sport retro style helmet. Nothing stock or generic but creative and innovative individualistic design that is why I love Harley. I always think it’s up to the individual to choose what they want, looks are subjective, I encourage everyone to think outside the box. The amount of comments I get just for wearing a Retro style Brown leather jacket alone is interesting. When are you going to get rid of the skirtster and get a real bike, 😂 when Harley releases a flat tracker speedway scramble model and I don’t need 3 men to pick it up when I drop it
When you look at my Sportster with duct tape upholstery and it's faded paint and rust here and there it has the patina of age and it shows the mileage I have put on it in almost 25 years of riding it. It is what it is and does not pretend to be something it is not. The same can be said of it's owner. When I ride my Ural sidecar outfits to Harley parties it never fails. Everybody tells me I have the coolest bike there. The British motorcycles were the motorcycle of The Swinging 60s the Triumph was the coolest of the cool.
I was Lucky to get a custom and only I’d couple different seats and wheels it is perfect for me. I am considering getting 12” bars and hard bags maybe?
Cool beans I’m okay wearing bright neon bmw gear , riding a African Twin with a group of Harley buddies , and they know someday I will ride a road glide ST and be cool like them and you cheers
I got my 2009 Harley Davidson heritage twincam last year as a present to myself after having brain surgery and its totally bog standard factor pipes, air filter and tune. But the plan is to change everything 😊
I’m buying a Harley not because I want to conform or look cool, but simply because I like the look and sound of it. Being social because of what I choose to ride means less than zero. In fact I prefer to ride alone. Seen too many so called “riders” do stupid shit and that I don’t want to be associated with. Oh and you also won’t see me in Harley gear or accessories. A bunch of over priced garbage and I won’t be giving HD free advertising.
Ride your ride. Emphasis on Your. You make all the good points. Something that sticks out that I knew but never heard succinctly. A Harley is not a sport bike. Yeah- it's not and if we were serious about a riding community it would be a non-issue. Good luck with that! thank you for posting. Just found you.
After 55 years of conforming, dads rules, work rules, military rules I’m now a free older guy with hair half way down my back,,beards catching up. I don’t recall ever feeling so free cruising on my Road King. Making modifications. I went stage 2 I’ve got a solo seat plus the one if I have a passenger, just got 16” black bars to match the black bike mixed with chrome . I’ve ridden bikes most my life but this is so much better! I’m in the U.S. A. So for all you fellow riders keep the rubber under your arse!!
Your last point 😂 I just got my first Harley. My road king. I feel everyone looks at me this way. I LOVE my music! Im the only one in this large city that rides a Harley with a full face helmet. Most here just wear backwards baseball caps. I want to listen to music so wear my Bluetooth full face.
Great info Luckily i bought the right bike and cam and love it but can confidently say ive spent plenty on the wrong gear and struggled to get my money back 😅 Even after having the right bike you meet more people and do bigger trips and then soon want the best of both worlds and wish you could afford 2 bikes! Maybe one day ill let the softail go but not just yet
@@OldNotDead-Club just went with the harley se stage 2 torque cam for warranty purposes and costs, great improvement and plenty power in a 114 but next time round i think ill try the s&s 475 from the showroom and ditch the warranty for something different
I ride a Yamaha Vstar650 only cause it’s cool to ride as a learner. Next bike is a Harley hopefully but I’m definitely making all the mistakes trying to look cool. At 50 and starting late into Motorcycles Im kind of needing to take more notice of what people are wearing. At the moment I feel like I’m a Triumph Thruxton rider on a Cafe mission Riding a non Harley bike in a high vis vest. Wife just laughs saying that I’m really trying hard To look the part. Ha ha. But thank for your vids. They help
I rode 30 years before I bought my Sportster. I have leather jackets leather vest, a Joe Rocket ventilated armor jacket that is nice bright orange. Nobody is going to tell me what I am going to wear while I am riding one of my motorcycles.
The older one gets the more you ride for comfort if the seat is comfy then leave it on the bike . A little colour on your jacket it is easier to get seen .
So what kind of pipes do you run on your bagger? That sound good, but not too loud. Are they Rhinehart's bands and Hines or something else?At one number are they in diameter
I have a 2003 harley davidson anniversary cvo gold key deuce that is 100% stock how it came. I got it at an irs auction the original owner had 80 motorcycles and left the country when the irs came looking to get paid. I got the bike in 2022 june with 1340 miles. I changed the battery and oil filter
I pick up two nails ony back tire I was able to plug them and put in some fix a flat got to s station to bring up the air in tire if u have tube tires u are fuc, the 222 wood bolt on cam is the best for 103 pumps u up to 90 hp or more
@@OldNotDead-Club driving around in Vegas it's normal sometime bad things happen for a good reason their was a person that car had broken down and he miss the plane the plan that had crash and every one die so braking down in his car save his life, one thing I know we attract what we think so it's best to always think positive for u get what u think things happen for a reason and it could be the spirits , NOT by power nor by MIGHT but buy SPIRIT🧝💃🌟🇯🇪🔥☀️⚡🕯️🐁
It can be a bit addictive adding on extras I enjoy tinkering with my bike just at a limited capacity/skill level 😂 and watching a lot of UA-cam keeps giving me more ideas/spending money🤦♂️
Comfort is much more important than what someone else thinks is "cool". Also you forgot: avoid the extended warranty; you'll void it as soon as you add any meaningful performance mods, like aftermarket slip-ons, heavy air intake, or tuner.
Another fine video. Most of the things you outlined apply to any motorcycle or scooter including the part about dressing up to play the part. It takes an independent soul to thumb their nose at convention and stand out from the crowd. I always have to chuckle at some of the Harley ads here in the States that push the idea of unique individuals choosing a Harley but then feeling the full weight of HOG making sure they dress "appropriately," as if they're going to a posh private school with uniforms. There is a similar approach in some scooter clubs and among riders of all stripes. Sometimes I think only a few unique, rebels choose motorcycles judging by the costumes I see. A few of the details I have to disagree with. Like not being able to wear a full-face helmet in cold weather because of wind buffeting. I've ridden a lot of different motorcycles including Harleys and have never felt the effect you describe. And as a year-round rider, it would be close to impossible to ride without a full-face helmet when the temperatures drop below 40F and further down below freezing. At least not for any length of time. And I've heard the slogan "Loud pipes Save Lives" but I've never quite understood how in practice. I've had some really loud piped motorcycles approach from behind and I don't hear them until they're passing. And when they approach from the front I again don't hear them until they're passing. The only place I can see the notification benefit would be in traffic where people aren't going fast and are packed close together. Maybe. Again, a great video. Even though I don't identify as a Harley rider I really do enjoy your stuff.
Thank you. You might be correct. I have only tried limited full face helmets on my Street Glide and they were Helmets I have purchased for sports bikes - so it might be unique to the Helmets and their design and / or the Street Glide. You are also spot on re the pipes. Its for when you are very close to cars that it makes the difference - that's the point - that's when its needed. I will try and explain it better next time.
Hey Aymen nice video,so seing as Harley riders are acceptable of other riders what would you think of an Indian ridder doing some rides with the Harley boys,I know it's not a Harley but a great American cruiser none the less, what's your thoughts ,would I be accepted into the ride grope thanks mate
My Sporty is practically stock, except for the bars, risers, seat, lights, top end of the motor, exhaust, chain drive, brakes, front end, and wheels. Oh yeah can't forget cutting the frame in half and adding a hardtail. At least 20% stock. Lol
I have a heavy leather HD jacket and a HD textile vented jacket when it's 85f or hotter. I bought about 7 new HD shirts and about 20 shirts from Ebay. Roughly I have about $2k worth of Harley swag and then there's the garage and household items. It's never ending. lol
My list of mistakes: 1: Don’t buy Screaming Eagle upgrades. They aren’t that great. Buy aftermarket. Aftermarket has better performance increases. Ride stock till you void your warranty, save money. Then do your upgrades. 2: Don’t buy cheap gear. You’ll save money by not getting the cheap leathers and helmets. They’ll fit better too. Buy once, cry once. 3: if you’re going to eventually do a stage 2 on your bike. But you’re waiting for your first rebuild. Buy a stage 2 intake to run your stage 1 set up. Better would be a stage 4 intake. That way no matter how far you go with your bike, you’ll buy one or two less intakes for whatever stage upgrade you’re going to do. It’s your bike though. So if you want to buy things for it that don’t make sense to anyone but you. Do it if it makes you want to ride it more and makes you giggle like a tween girl at a Taylor Swift concert. We ride because we love riding. Not because Fred next door likes to ride. If we love the bikes we ride, it makes us love riding that much more. Every day is a good day to ride. It’s just some days riding are better than others. But it’s never a bad day. Except when it snows. Those days suck.😂
I find that wearing a full face helmet makes the ride all the more enjoyable. I got hit in the face by a rock on a back road one time and suddenly, the skull cap I was wearing didn't seem like it was enough
I am a new rider in my 50s and am happy owning being a rider. Messy hair - don’t care. Girl riders don’t need to wear pink … saw you at HH Dande yesterday and thought “I know that guy from somewhere….” Next time I’ll say Hi! Hubs, BIL, SIL and I did a loop via Arthurs Seat and Flinders today. A little damp with showers - but we are Harley riders who go out in the rain 😂😂😂😂 12K kms in less than a year - best kilometres of my life!! Keep up the good work!
My neighbors absolutely hated the drag pipes that I had on my Softail that I had a couple years ago before I got rid of it I think the front pipe was about 3 ft long if that the bagpipe was way shorter let's just say blue flames come out of the exhaust whenever you revved it up every morning when I started it and got up to go to work the lights in my neighbor's bedroom would come on I'm sure they didn't like it😊
Great vid mate. I'm new to riding and a new Harley owner. Everything you said makes sense. I bought a soft tail standard and it's perfect for me coming from a Vulcan S. Slightly intimidating at first but took no time to get use to. Then I won a fat boy so now I'm a total Harley fan!
Ha! Just a couple weeks ago made the hour trip, both ways, to my nearest HD dealership. They will give ZERO info on line or over the phone. Yep…red flag. BUT…I wanted a 2022 Road King and they had a few on the floor….got at least that out of ‘em over the phone. Short version…$10k over MSRP 😂. Dealership swears people buy EVERYDAY w/o even asking about price. 😮 Anyway..biggest mistake…walking into a HD dealership.
The Harley "tax" is a real thing. Instead of giving you a bike that all Harley owners want, they give it to you without the essentials - weak exhaust sound topping the list.
Yep guilty , bought a good looking fat boy lo , all shined up at the dealership, first harley, then came the bags , back rest for the bride, it had slip on,s but really quite, no tuner or air filter, stock seat was like a brick for the bride so shopping i went , finally $$$ later all sorted , looking now there,s some great bikes all sorted for the price i paid standard , but still happy as a pig in shit , last bike suzuki vl 800, say no more , great vlog mate , just subed, so looking foward to checking all the rest , cheers from Wardell NSW
Lol my 3rd Harley and mods is where I mess up. And my exhaust is pretty loud. I have slash pipes on. And no one likes riding on my right cause it to loud
Like all things your intitled to your opinion . If you bought your bike to look cool thats great. You do you and I'll do me. Way back when I bought a VROD because I did not want to buy into "The lifestyle". I bought a bike because I like to ride, I bought a Harley because I can't trust myself on a sport bike. About the mod budget,we all lie to our selves I'm going to leave it stock then go to a cruse nite and see the other bikes and you know what happens after that. Good video though.🙂
Can't afford a Harley. I hate that they have pretty restricted cornering clearance. After watching a young man die on one due to ground clearance issues that was just bloody awful and unnecessary. I like to lean a bike. But each to their own. I have a 15 yr old suzuki 1250 bandit . Oodles of power comfort and great cornering clearance.
old ,,l lowered my electra glide install cobra slipons chrome wheels sony xav7000 chrome controls chrome primary cover and cam cover saddlebag crash bars new grips foot pegs and floor boards and last but not least had two custom seats made.not going to mess with the engine got enough power for me.l forgot installed chrome upper and lower forks.
as a rider who has owned many different types of bikes from many manufacturers, I say ride your ride and look how ever you want. We are all brothers on 2 wheels.
Very true and wise words
Our 2-wheel community has a shameful sub-group of overpass (to overpass) racers that are just about fast but not organized enough to find an airstrip and host some track days. That group is most visible to the public and , understandably, shade the rest of us. So if brothers they be, Dad needs to spank 'em!
@@Redpawdave lol, fast is fun isn't it?
@@OldNotDead-Club well...my Dad's parable may fit : " Two bulls stood on a hill top looking down a a herd of peacefully grazing cows. The young bull got instantly excited and blurted out, "Lets run down there and we'll each get us one of those beauties! The old bull yawned and replied, " Or... we could WALK down an' get 'em all".
So, we're in no hurry.. could be 'something' else to do when we get to where ever it is we're goin' . 'Maybe something' FINE at the end of th' line'
@@Redpawdave LOL, yeah of course in that scenario slow is fun
I am 59 and have ridden 50 years. I find your page refreshing and real. Aussies are usually to the point. I have two 2002 Harleys'. a Fatboy and a Road King. I have a 2019 Sport Glide and am thinking of selling it as I enjoy the older ones better. I also would like to not have a $350 a month payment.. I also like to get out with my RT1200 RT-P BMW. I do enjoy riding my wife's Indian Scout as well.
Thanks you are blessed to have access to so many good bikes!
Thanks much appreciated
I have a 2005 Fatboy and love it. Agree with most of what you said but not the clothing part. I wear what I like and dont care what others think is cool or not. I dont go riding to have people think I am cool I ride because I love the feeling it gives me. If others think I have the wrong jacket or gloves or whatever thats there issue not mine. Apart from that great channel ( I am 67 and in the UK) :)
Thank you
I'm an uncool old bloke with a chunky seat on my Street Glide and I love it for body position and comfort......doesn't look as good but it makes a huge difference to me
I've seen your video's you are cool enough. Plus bonus points for having a street glide.
@@OldNotDead-Club haha thank you mate
Thanks, there are always lessons and new things to learn
You're stage 4 isn't a complete waste, other than the SE cam. Put an aftermarket cam in it and a decent tune and you'll be amazed at how shit the SE cam is. It'll feel like a whole new machine. I'm assuming with stage 4 you've gone up to a 128ci? Speak to APE Gladstone and they'll tell you the best cam for the job!
Youre a bit late to the party with you're comment mate. Cam upgrade ✅️@ricko9879
Haha yeah just a little late! If he hasn't put the cam in yet and he goes ahead with it now, at least he'll feel better about it 👌 @thesoftailstable
Thanks, great advice
I really like the way you present yourself as just a friendly guy who enjoys motorcycles, and a guy I'd like to hang out with.
Most of the things you talk about are things my buddies and I talk about hanging out in the shop.
You have gotten a like each time I've seen one of your videos, and I think your channel is going to grow like CRAZY!
Keep up the good work.
Much appreciated, thank you and I hope you enjoy the channel for a long time
I remember wearing a full face helmet on a Harley was taboo. Now you see it everywhere in the U.S. Enjoy the ride the way you want not because a stranger told you so. Stay safe everyone!
Certainly much safer in a full face but open face feels fantastic when riding.
Here in the UK too...I don't care, I wear my full face
Full face helmet has saved my FACE several times over the years. I currently own a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000, a Kymco Spade 150 and a 2022 Harley Heritage Softail.
Anyone wearing brain bucket helmets don’t have many brains to begin with … 😂😵💀
I bought a Johnny reb leather jacket 2xl fitted well and feels light. But in my opinion feels like fake leather. Yes bought it online during lockdown.
Don’t use it now. Funny thing is I am only xl
Also bought winter gloves that don’t stop the cold.
Also bought a screaming eagle air cleaner that’s suppose to be high flow. Nope.
Recently fitted a s and s stealth air cleaner (same as yours) and have noticed a big power difference.
The air cleaner is awesome isn't it.
Becoming old ,still being alive and moving about unaided feels pretty cool , my bike is an added bonus! Nice video 👍
Thank you
I finally have my first Harley, metric Cruiser's and sports before that. I have made all these mistakes not just on Harleys, but on all bikes. Some really great advice in this vid!
Thank you that's much appreciated and yes it applies to all bikes
I don't ride a motorcycle to "look the part". I ride because I enjoy it. I had an accident 3 months ago where a car cut me off and had no way of avoiding a collision. Luckily (that day) I was wearing my full face helmet and thankful that I did. Had I been wearing one of my half helmets (to "look cool"), I would have likely had my jaw broken in addition to my collarbone and 6 ribs. I am glad to have made it out alive and be able to ride again, but I will only go "so far" to look the part.
Certainly safer with more protection - cant argue with that
I agree 100%. I Ride a V-ROD Muscle so a full-face helmet looks natural, but even when I test rode a 2017 Fat Boy, I wore my own full-face helmet. I think my face is important enough to protect from grinding on asphalt or smashing into solid objects from a potential crash.
I've read a stat that says 37% of motorcyclist hospitalisations are due to facial injuries .
Yep. I have seen the result of people with a half face kissing the road. Its pretty ugly. Good on you for wearing your gear.
3/4 of motorcycling head injuries are maxillofacial injuries… i almost always west my Full face Shoei but every now and then.. 😀
2021 Streetbob that I’ve had for 53 weeks. (but who’s counting!) All stock! And love it. 👍🏼
Lol, wow stock? and for just over a year. Are you sure it's stock? .. Will you break and modify?
Excellent and I am a 60 year old Harley sportster rider 883
Year 1990
Best wishes for you from the uk 🇬🇧
Thank you
I got lucky.
The bike sounds great thanks for wtaching
I stopped being cool at 75. Now, i just want to be seen. Ride my harley with a red jacket and an optic yellow vest. My goal is to be a 90 year old rider😮
Lol wise words of advice, thanks
Wear whatever gear you want. Especially your cool old jacket.
I've had a few basket builds over the years..BSA,Trumpets,Honda 750/4 my Sporty is the VERY FIRST BIKE that there was "no assembly required" and I like the way it handles...small,quick( when necessary) and around 55 mpg if I use the hills...happy to ride when I can
Very cool!
*I had that same fatboy LO u had
VH pipes … sooooo loud! Ole lady hated that bike lol.
Thanks for watching, yep the Fatty was loud as had lots of engine work to help the noise lol
Wise words, thank you
Had a laugh watching this, every point hit home.
Don't worry it will be a fun journey
From a sportsbike to a Harley? Have you given up? Shame on you … 😂
@@ma3stro681 lol not quite...still have a Z900RS and BMW R1250GSA as well when I need that different something.
Yes the bagger racing series has done has push a whole ne w movement - i love it
How it looked was never a topic for me. 😉
Wow, that's an awesome amount of time to be away travelling on your bike.
Not lost on me that the first bike shown when talking about "buying the wrong model" is exactly the bike I bought last spring, a '22 Nightster. It was about a month later that I went back and bought a Street Glide. I never ride the Nightster anymore. Lesson learned.
We have all made mistakes
The /OLD NOT DEAD /
U /tube segment pretty much covers a lot of actual reality //
Im glad to see non B/S and common sense shared to new and old riders //
Keep up the good work //
Thank you, that's much appreciated
Do save the budget for the nessecities. I wear black leather, vest and chaps with buckle boots. Got more gear than I do sense. I look really cool on my 09FLHTCU and a full face helmet. When I go solo, I drop the tour pack, change out the tour seat, turn up the tunes and look even cooler!!!!
When my wife is on back she makes me look even cooler or at the least distracts attention from me!!
Thanks Aymen, enjoyoing your videos.
Thanks that's much appreciated and I look cooler with my wife on the back too
I don't wear the Harley Davidson 'uniform' -- black leather -- while riding my Road King but I do dress for the ride in a RevIt Poseidon GTX riding suit. When I go to the dealer for parts or service, no one will talk to me. But most of those riders never ride further than a tank of gas away from home. I ride my bike from eastern PA to north TX for a weekend ride.
Lol, you are probably right, that most Harley's are trophies and not ridden much
I'm like you I love the looks of my 2017 Street Glide. The only modification I've done is put a taller wind screen on it. Other then that, it is totally stock.
I have though about it - I do like the a little wind in face as I sit over the screen - especially in a hot summer
When I look at your bike I see comfort and touring. First thing I would have done is the big padded comfy seat.
I've been riding motorcycles all my life just started riding in 2006 when I bought my 1st Harley it was a low rider in June I purchased a 22 road king And it's stock I have removed the rear tail light turned signal bar and replaced it with Filler blades from Ciro And Turn signal relocation kit which is a license plate with turn signals and running lights and a light for the license plit's complete but I haven't decided what pipes to put on it because I'm stuck between Wayne which is the best sounding pipes so you should do a segment on pipes if you can
Thanks it's difficult to get the sound reproduced well - next video has a nice sounding breakout on it. I like rineharts for touring bikes.
Just about to pull the trigger on a harley soon enough. Making the switch from super sport. Your videos are put together really well. Calming with loads of Info. Plenty to learn but excited for the journey. Got yourself another subscriber. Cheers 🇦🇺
Thanks, much appreciated - welcome to the channel -
Indeed, ride how you want. Still, those yellow gloves I cant get used to...
I have plenty of black pairs. They look very yellow in the videos but they are actually very dirty and discoloured in real life.
As far as gear goes, agreed; you don't want it to clash with your bike, not if you want to look cool. Just make sure it's armored; flesh & bone wins no wars with asphalt.
Upgrades are different for the V-ROD MUSCLE, I've done a few, but I recommend 3 to start with:
1) the HD short passenger rest & rack. They match the bike perfectly and are highly functional (especially for the passenger)
2) Replace those UGLY wimpy sounding exhaust cans with TAB Performance slipons. You'll need to drill out the 4 label rivets (replace with stainless steel screws) in order to remove the baffling material from the baffles. These look great and have an AWESOME sound without baffling material.
3) Replace that dog dish looking rear sprocket. I bought one from a company in the UK that matches the wheels for $600.00 (well worth the money!)
My other upgrades:
HD Edge cut grips & pegs
2008 Nightrod Special horn & sprocket
covers (gloss black; too much silver on the left side with stock covers)
Wind shield
Air shocks with reservoirs (compliments the drag bike look)
License plate frame with bar & shield bolts
Front fender extender (helps keep grime off the radiator)
Modified open airbox (completely exposes air filter)
Screaming Eagle high-flow air filter
V-ROD Desyroyer velocity stacks (had to side trim tops to fit inside the air filter)
NGK Iridium sparkplugs
Catchcan system
Drag Specialties hot coils
Tuned with Dynojet Power Vision tuner (126 hp & 96 tq)
V-ROD mini leather saddle bags (mainly to hide the exposed plastic of the underseat gas tank) with front tool pouch to match
Sometime I'll have to learn how to post pictures in the comments
Thanks Arlan, sound like you have thought it through
I went with the road glide limited in ‘21. I traded in my ‘19 soft tail. The issue was the RG is primarily a touring bike. It’s not so good around town. I regret trading in the softail as the softail was so much better ( much lighter and nimbler ) in cities.
Yes that's true - depends on where you ride. BUT the RG is an awesome bike
You have to learn to ride a road glide. I traded my soft tail for a road glide and ride around town like a sports bike . No broblem. Love it!
No Drama and to the point.. Thanks Mate.
Thank you
Too loud. 🤣. Yeah I have done that.
All good advice Aymen. On point as usual. Cheers.
Safe rides 👊👍
My cool weather jacket is a brown WW2 style bomber jacket with a removable wool lining, zippers for vents in the sleeves and back.
lol yep mods can be endless!!
I like your honesty how you talk about the bike and the appropriate apparel. As safe as I would like to be riding I also want to look good and fit the style of riding the particular bike I ride, if you get my drift!
Right on!
I love my Sharleyn who was born street bob in September of 2015. 8 years on and still looks like day one apart from a few stone chips. Nice contents from your videos brother!
Thank you
Comfort is paramount. Street Glide!😁👍
Love the SG!
The right clothes and equipment make a huge difference - especially in the cold.
Spot on, there are a lot of cool bikes outside the Harley universe
I was Lucky to get a custom and only I’d couple different seats and wheels it is perfect for me. I am considering getting 12” bars and hard bags maybe?
Thats the beauty of the Harley world endless ways to change your bike to suit you.
I also went from Sportbikes to a Fatboy ... still have the 2002 Fatboy and now have a 2014 Street Glide. My Fatboy is also super loud, LOL
It's great that you kept your Fatboy, I wish I had of kept my first one.
Cool beans I’m okay wearing bright neon bmw gear , riding a African Twin with a group of Harley buddies , and they know someday I will ride a road glide ST and be cool like them and you cheers
lol, good comment. I would be ok doing that too. There is a certain coolness in not following the crowd.
I got my 2009 Harley Davidson heritage twincam last year as a present to myself after having brain surgery and its totally bog standard factor pipes, air filter and tune. But the plan is to change everything 😊
I have a 2021 heritage classic and it is stock only put a rear rack purchased from new
Thanks for your comment - the Heritage is a good looking bike that can look awesome with some tweaks
Thanks, wise words
Ride your ride. Emphasis on Your. You make all the good points. Something that sticks out that I knew but never heard succinctly. A Harley is not a sport bike. Yeah- it's not and if we were serious about a riding community it would be a non-issue. Good luck with that!
thank you for posting. Just found you.
Thanks for the kind words
After 55 years of conforming, dads rules, work rules, military rules I’m now a free older guy with hair half way down my back,,beards catching up. I don’t recall ever feeling so free cruising on my Road King. Making modifications. I went stage 2 I’ve got a solo seat plus the one if I have a passenger, just got 16” black bars to match the black bike mixed with chrome . I’ve ridden bikes most my life but this is so much better! I’m in the U.S. A. So for all you fellow riders keep the rubber under your arse!!
Thanks
Your last point 😂 I just got my first Harley. My road king. I feel everyone looks at me this way. I LOVE my music! Im the only one in this large city that rides a Harley with a full face helmet. Most here just wear backwards baseball caps. I want to listen to music so wear my Bluetooth full face.
I like the sound of the engine and don't like my hearing blocked so I don't think i could ever stream music
Great info
Luckily i bought the right bike and cam and love it but can confidently say ive spent plenty on the wrong gear and struggled to get my money back 😅
Even after having the right bike you meet more people and do bigger trips and then soon want the best of both worlds and wish you could afford 2 bikes! Maybe one day ill let the softail go but not just yet
I agree - would love 2 bikes. What cam did you put in and are you happy with it?
They help
Lol thanks for watching. Maybe relax about what you wear?
I rode 30 years before I bought my Sportster. I have leather jackets leather vest, a Joe Rocket ventilated armor jacket that is nice bright orange. Nobody is going to tell me what I am going to wear while I am riding one of my motorcycles.
Thanks Frank, way to go!
Sounds like you got a good deal - enjoy
I pick up two nails ony back tire I was able to plug them and put in some fix a flat got to s station to bring up the air in tire if u have tube tires u are fuc, the 222 wood bolt on cam is the best for 103 pumps u up to 90 hp or more
Thanks, I usually carry a puncture repair kit - two nails is pretty unlucky!

It can be a bit addictive adding on extras I enjoy tinkering with my bike just at a limited capacity/skill level 😂 and watching a lot of UA-cam keeps giving me more ideas/spending money🤦♂️
Lol, there are always new things to buy for your Harley. Then you finish and want a new bike lol.
Your seat is cool!
I have a Lil’Nugget from LePera on my FXDL (the last real Low Rider)
Thank you - they make great seats
Comfort is much more important than what someone else thinks is "cool". Also you forgot: avoid the extended warranty; you'll void it as soon as you add any meaningful performance mods, like aftermarket slip-ons, heavy air intake, or tuner.
Thanks - yes the warranty is issue goes deep. Cool vs comfort -- that depends on the bike and what your purpose is... doesn't it?
Love your channel
Thank you, that's much appreciated
Hey Aymen nice video,so seing as Harley riders are acceptable of other riders what would you think of an Indian ridder doing some rides with the Harley boys,I know it's not a Harley but a great American cruiser none the less, what's your thoughts ,would I be accepted into the ride grope thanks mate
ive never seen anyone on any bike rejected on any group ride i have ever been on.
My Sporty is practically stock, except for the bars, risers, seat, lights, top end of the motor, exhaust, chain drive, brakes, front end, and wheels. Oh yeah can't forget cutting the frame in half and adding a hardtail.
At least 20% stock. Lol
LOL, sounds like you have a bit of time and money invested into that
@@OldNotDead-Club Scared to add up how much I spent. Lol
@@jameshill8498 lol, i understand
the only mistake harley buyers make is buying one in the first place
LOL, you could add some reasons? P.S. I'm sure all us Harley riders are 1 million percent triggered now and having a bad day.
That bike is absolutely beautiful!
i have a 92 fxdc and a 16 victory vegas both stone stock
I have a heavy leather HD jacket and a HD textile vented jacket when it's 85f or hotter. I bought about 7 new HD shirts and about 20 shirts from Ebay. Roughly I have about $2k worth of Harley swag and then there's the garage and household items. It's never ending. lol
Lol, that's a few shirts, I better get crackin with my shopping.
Good vid mate. Agreed, do it your own way but put some thought into it. Hopefully you hit the mark with your riding circle. Cheers
Thanks that's much appreciated
My list of mistakes:
1: Don’t buy Screaming Eagle upgrades.
Low winter sunlight is blinding ,I wear my hi viz Harley zip up ,lots of car drivers don’t wear sunglasses and don’t see us bikers.😮
Lol, very true - make more noise?
Mine is absolutely stock...no modifications .
I find that wearing a full face helmet makes the ride all the more enjoyable. I got hit in the face by a rock on a back road one time and suddenly, the skull cap I was wearing didn't seem like it was enough
Yes that's true, you are pretty vulnerable with an open face helmet
What open face helmet brand do you have? It looks like it’s extremely low profile. 🤙
Its an old Shoei from the early nineties
I am a new rider in my 50s and am happy owning being a rider. Messy hair - don’t care. Girl riders don’t need to wear pink … saw you at HH Dande yesterday and thought “I know that guy from somewhere….” Next time I’ll say Hi! Hubs, BIL, SIL and I did a loop via Arthurs Seat and Flinders today. A little damp with showers - but we are Harley riders who go out in the rain 😂😂😂😂 12K kms in less than a year - best kilometres of my life!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, next time say hello! Love the ride up Arthurs seat, one of my favourite spots.
Thanks - wow you won a Fatboy - that's awesome - very lucky
Can you tell me about your S&S 475 cam, im thinking of the same cam, thank you
Sure watch this video - I talk about it ua-cam.com/video/x8ltXfcGgK4/v-deo.html
Anyway..biggest mistake…walking into a HD dealership.
Wow, here they must advertise total ride away price at the dealer. I guess the issue at the moment is supply and demand.
The Harley "tax" is a real thing. Instead of giving you a bike that all Harley owners want, they give it to you without the essentials - weak exhaust sound topping the list.
Yes but see my video on the EPA
Yep guilty , bought a good looking fat boy lo , all shined up at the dealership, first harley, then came the bags , back rest for the bride, it had slip on,s but really quite, no tuner or air filter, stock seat was like a brick for the bride so shopping i went , finally $$$ later all sorted , looking now there,s some great bikes all sorted for the price i paid standard , but still happy as a pig in shit , last bike suzuki vl 800, say no more , great vlog mate , just subed, so looking foward to checking all the rest , cheers from Wardell NSW
Thank you - enjoy the channel - LOVE the Fatboy Lo
Lol my 3rd Harley and mods is where I mess up. And my exhaust is pretty loud. I have slash pipes on. And no one likes riding on my right cause it to loud
Lol, oh yeah I have had them before - awesome but seriously loud
Like all things your intitled to your opinion . If you bought your bike to look cool thats great. You do you and I'll do me. Way back when I bought a VROD because I did not want to buy into "The lifestyle". I bought a bike because I like to ride, I bought a Harley because I can't trust myself on a sport bike. About the mod budget,we all lie to our selves I'm going to leave it stock then go to a cruse nite and see the other bikes and you know what happens after that. Good video though.🙂
Thanks
Can't afford a Harley. I hate that they have pretty restricted cornering clearance. After watching a young man die on one due to ground clearance issues that was just bloody awful and unnecessary. I like to lean a bike. But each to their own. I have a 15 yr old suzuki 1250 bandit . Oodles of power comfort and great cornering clearance.
All bikes are good in some way or another. I'm not sure your Bandit has much more cornering clearance then my street glide?
The thing is its yours so make it yours
Thanks
Hey awesome talk great content, thanks 😊
Thank you and the comment is much appreciated
Doesn’t matter what I wear, I never look the part lol. 5’6 250lbs.
Thanks, perhaps look into getting a little lighter for your health
old ,,l lowered my electra glide install cobra slipons chrome wheels sony xav7000 chrome controls chrome primary cover and cam cover saddlebag crash bars new grips foot pegs and floor boards and last but not least had two custom seats made.not going to mess with the engine got enough power for me.l forgot installed chrome upper and lower forks.
Hey that sounds pretty good and would look cool
There is not mistakes only learning.
Thanks!

What brand is your 3/4 helmet?
