    Wow. I really like Fred Armisen. He is substantial and completely without artifice or pretension. What a lovely human being. Sam, as always, has The Goods! I learnt something listening to this. I love it when a conversation opens a door to new understanding.

      Had no idea artifice was a noun

      @@jujuonthatqueef5043 I love words. I used 'assiduous' yesterday. I had to look it up to see if I was using it correctly (it had just jumped into my head as I wrote a sentence). And I had! Echo's of my father speaking (English professor at a small university). He loved language and used complex words when I was little, so they seemed perfectly normal. I'm always thrilled when I hear others using more of our very rich language.

    Amazingly honest and candid statements w/o any pretention. It's like this guy can't lie and he values that experience so much that speaking of it falsely would be sacrilege.
    You da man, Fred.

    Sam's interviews are so refreshing. It's not a typical late night television interview where the guest has been asked the same questions 2 dozen times by everybody else. He has a way of opening dialog and having real conversation, not some pre scripted overdone malarkey.

      Yes, it's refreshing to see an interviewer who has good skills; asks pertinent questions, doesn't interrupt the guest, appears engaged, and has a bit of fun with it all.

    People in the arts need this kind of feedback. I was a visual art student and the teachers that I liked the most, and took the most classes with, were the ones where if you got a B, B+ you were on cloud 9- an A was something to really earn. Artists shouldn't be coddled, they should be pushed so they can learn how to push themselves later on.

      Hey c'mon - he's speaking off the cuff, from memory. I'm not going to knock him like it was some kind of calculated insult. Don't go poking for drama where there isn't any. If you watch videos of him and Bill Hader (also not mentioned, I think...) and Seth talking about Documentary Now (go find the 92nd St Y interview) you'll see that there is huge respect and camaraderie between all of these guys.

    Fine, but what I want to know is: If the sketches are written by the cast members themselves, how come everyone is reading the cue cards? Shouldn't they know what they wrote?

    • @CommaCam
      @CommaCam 5 років тому +4

      I notice some read more than others. But they're writing new material every week so that's a lot to remember very quickly.

    • @SpaceCattttt
      @SpaceCattttt 5 років тому

      @@CommaCam Perhaps. But if I write something, I just instantly remember it all. I can remember maybe 20 pages of dialogue if I'm the author. But if I'm not, I don't remember shit.

    • @SunnyBear
      @SunnyBear 5 років тому +2

      @@SpaceCattttt you remember all new 20 pages every week then? with different co-writers and styles? that's well done.

    • @svyt

      Also, (a) they're often in sketches written by somebody else, (b) they are sometimes changing lines (and thus the cue cards) right up to the last minute, and (c) although *you* may have an excellent memory for lines, can you understand that not everybody does?

  • @lugie69

    Either they're just hiring unfunny people or the management style that Fred describes from his time at SNL is wayyyyyy different now, as in more rules and "guidance" and less bringing your comedic voice and redefining what the show is in your own way.
