My 2011 5.0 is now 11 years old. Probably $500 or less of unscheduled repairs total. Keep up on maintenance and you'll have a reliable truck for decades. I keep window shopping for a new one. But laugh at the prices for a new model.
Since when did 0-60 times become so significant in testing trucks? It's more important on how well the truck accelerates and maintains speed while towing a few tons. Or what about how well it handles up hill inclines while towing. Or how it handles gravel and light off road trails.
@@vernondouglas4425 The 3.7L would work fine, most of that sounds like pretty light work. I own a 2011 5.0L Supercab FX4 and I love the extra pep and sound the 5.0L has though.
I love my 2011 Ford F-150! I have the 3.7L V6, with a regular cab, and it is awesome! I love the fact that I get around 19 MPG with my mixed driving. I do travel quite a bit at highway speeds (60% of the time during the work week), but for a pickup that is not bad! The seats are very comfortable, even on long trips. I took a trip from Tucson, AZ over to Silver City, NM and averaged around 22 MPG highway. That is not far from what I was getting in my 2008 Honda CR-V!
I have the 2011 5.0 V8 F-150 and I love it best decision I ever made buying this beast. I was able to test drive a 2012 F-150 with the 3.7L V6 the problem though was it was woefully underpowered in the supercrews they have been putting them in. In the regular cab perhaps its better but it sure dosent in the supercrew.
Come on, seriously youtube commenting braniacs. MOST trucks sold will never see a farm, or some offroad bullsh**. Towing maybe. Handling tests can translate into emergency maneuvers. Acceleration tests can translate into passing and merging with traffic, plus who wants a vehicle thats slow as shit and falls off the road at the slightest hint of aggressive driving.
I traded my '07 5.4 for a '14 5.0 & I love it. I got 25 MPG at 65 MPH on the highway! I must say though that little 3.7 is a working engine. Our 2012 police SUV had 132,000 in town miles & it ran like a champ with plenty of power. 2011 was definitely a giant leap ahead for Ford
Now a days displacement has very little to do with the power of an engine. In the old days it did, but we have so much technology now like vvti, direct injection, twin turbo. I'm super impressed with ford and the whole ecoboost technology. We will see a lot of manufacturers adopt this idea now, for the consumer its good.
Will always love the 4.6L, but more importantly the 5.4L which I wish Ford had tuned and upgraded that engine, but my opinions of the new engines including information through other reviews is, the 6.2L is a very muscle car like sounding engine with plenty of torque and horsepower (411 hp) but unfortunately Ford doesn't put this engine in many other Ford vehicles not even the Mustang. You have to get a special edition truck, or special order a 6.2L in a normal F-150, or you can get it in the Superduty but overall is a great engine even though it does drink some gas. The 5.0L is a quite nice sounding truck but still nothing compared to the 6.2L. It puts out 360 HP, only 5 short of the Ecoboost but the Ecoboost takes over in torque. I honestly still prefer the 5.4L over the 5.0L but still the 5.0L is a great engine especially as a daily driver & work truck. The Ecoboost even though it is only a 3.5L V6 with turbos and direct injection do not underestimate this engine this engine is fast and powerful. It gets better gas mileage than the competitor's V8 engines and MPG. If you are interested in learning about the Ecoboost V6 checkout the Ecoboost torture test where Ford does some insane tests! But yes a very great engine, the Ecoboost literally sells way better than the 5.0L even for an extra charge for the Ecoboost than the 5.0L it is worth it! Last we have the 3.7L V6. This is the base engine on F-150 it does get the best MPG of all the other 3 engines but for the MPG and power I say get the Ecoboost still gives you V6 fuel economy but gives you that V8 power. This engine puts out 302 HP. But remember the reason you got this particular engine and why did you buy it? The answer is to get good gas mileage and so I can haul light loads around so why so much horsepower? The 3.7L is an engine for good MPG not racing if you want to race get the Ecoboost or 5.0L. The torque on the 3.7L is only 278 FT LBS, but you have to admit that these pretty low numbers for an F-150 and is kind of sad, Which is another reason I am glad Ford removed this engine from their 2015 models and replaced it with the standard 3.5L. Why did Ford do this? Must of not had good customer feedback. Ford actually discontinued the Ranger because they thought it was a good idea and that customers will choose a full sized pickup with a V6 over the smaller truck with about the same sized engine, but in doing that you are overloading the V6 everyday. I know a friend they were going to buy a Ranger within the next few years he wanted a new truck but Ford had discontinued the Ranger so he looked at the 3.7L in the F-150 and he did not want such a big truck, so he test drove one and just thought it was not going to be a good daily driver being used to driving small vehicles. So he ended up buying a used 2010 Ranger FX4 with the 4.0L V6. He said that the Ranger was the best thing he had bought fully loaded! Plus the price on a 3.7L V6 F-150 is high and you can buy a pretty decent Ranger for much cheaper. But to sum it up either the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 or the 5.0L. The 6.2L just drinks to much gas at 11 MPG city! and the 3.7L V6 is not a deal for your money.
I'm Zoid great, hope you get a good deal on it. I recommend using premium/93 octane fuel. Its a bit more expensive but it will drive up the mpg and performance overall. I will reiterate this, if you compare a lawn mower sound and a 4.6/5.4 accelerating it sounds just the same lol..
@1967CAMAROBOY You're pissed because the silverado can't compare to them huh? the only thing that can compare to an f-150 is another f-150 (or in this case 3 other f-150s).

Ford has sent the transmission reflash recall but I'm so scared to let them touch it.
@@federal6616 How is it holding up? I got a used 11 platinum 6.2L with 188K, runs like new. put 15K on it and towed 11K a few times. Ecoboost is clearly the best one, no doubt they've done that deliberately to try and wean customers off V8's. Who's gonna want a V8 when the turbo V6 is faster, more powerful, has more torque and is more economical?! When it's warranted, say for a truck comparison or our Truck of the Year program, we do more relevant testing - such as towing, payload, etc. Thanks for watching.
What the F150 needs is a good mid-size diesel engine, like the 3.0L oil-burner BMW has: 3.0L, 300hp and 442lb-ft of torque from 1500rpm. That kind of pulling-power, with the fuel economy of diesel would really be a game changer in this class...
@Srbabiruso I'd say a large portion of buyers don't use their trucks for their intended purpose 99% of the time. But there's also a large portion (like myself) that do. Whether that includes towing, hauling cargo in the bed or off road.
@ilovechevy1 It wasn't stupid of ford to outperform their own v8, because ford maintains a fuel efficient truck that has a high tow capacity, along with a high horsepower and torque output, something chevy can only dream of doing, also there are many videos showing the f-150 perform against the silverado and it beats it in almost every catagory, let's not forget about the torture tests either, also the f-150's frame flex isn't that bad I saw a video of in going through ripples and it was fine.
The f-150 v6 is the engine i need! a little more on gas saver! this is the next truck im gonna get. been doing this research for a good truck that last a long time for over a month now. finally found the truck i needed! more space, more power, a little on gas saver!
yea it not too bad for the dated thing that it is it roughly gets around 350 miles on a full tank of gas compared to 450 miles that i get with my 09 when i drive somewhat smoothe. i love the motor for that truck cuz the way its been taken care of its still suprisingly reliable just now the battery cables are needing to be replaced due to corrosion.
@determinedskeptic I completely forgot the big Audi TDI engines in the Q7 (with a greater curb mass than F150 by up to nearly 1000lbs) 1. 4.2L V8 Turbo Diesel - 335hp, 590lb-ft of torque. 0-62 = 6.4s; mpg = 19 city/31 hwy 2. 6.0L V12 Turbo Diesel - 493hp, 737lb-ft of torque. 0-62 = 5.5s!!!; mpg = 16 city/25 hwy So, stuff the puny 3.0L diesel, get a 4.2L Audi TDI (better city & hwy mpg than all current F150 engines) into an F150 and watch it really smoke the competition :)
@SuperZzz911 every company does tests like those and the results are always in their favor, chevrolet: constantly having every vehicle recalled over lousy engineering techniques, dodge: dips oil drops grease everywhere, ford: first on race day, ford: for off road destruction
I m proud of ford. I bought a 2011 fx4, nicest truck made right now. Chevy is the fastest with its 6.2 vette enjine first time they have used a vette enjine in there truck it runs 14.3s stock. Dodge just lay down you dont have the stuff
this is a good test but it lacks a lot. Sure all the motors have a lot for and some against them but what truck users want to see is hauling/towing along with how good a pickup has pick up.
Im more of a chevy guy, have a 2012 Z71, but the new engines in these fords are fantastic. The power boost was much needed and I definitely wish my Silverado had a bit more. Are the EcoBoost engines really that much of a match for the V-8's? I cant imagine even with twin turbos that they could match a big V-8 in towing and torque.
No, this video isn't formatted very good, the 360hp rating for the first gen F-150 5.0L's was at the crank, factory stock their wheel horsepower was usually between 290hp and 310hp.
You are right, it does work in Europe. In America, the benefits of diesel over gas are few. Diesel costs more per gallon than gas and required maintenance is more for a diesel. To really start seeing the benefits of cost savings from a diesel the time frame is about 10 years. In a new car culture like the one here, there just isn't enough justification to make the switch to diesel. It would take something awfull to happen for that change to occur. Like $9 per gallon gas in the EU.
@KLINGY94 Well their point is to standardize testing across all vehicles so there is room for comparison. If you tested hatchs like hatches trucks like trucks then it would mean that technical comparison would be difficult.
for all u dodge fans saying a hemi is better watch the ecoboost tortur test number 4 the ecoboost beat the dodge in the 0-60 with a 9000 pound trailer by 4.3 sec
@elgroomez I feel you. And I appreciate the feedback on how we review vehicles. What I do not appreciate is all the misogynistic commentary about the reviewer, who I happen to work with. It's completely inappropriate. Women drive trucks, just like women serve in the military. People need to get over it (and your comments are some of the least offensive.)
Really? They try to compare engines by using four completely different trucks? How about the same truck (maybe a Supercrew Lariat (don't know if 3.7 V6 is available in that truck)), with the same options and weight, except for different engines. That would be a true comparison!
@edwardploh ... by the way ... i liked the tokyo to la the hard way videos ... how cool was that trip, was it more rewarding as an experience because it as such a pain in the ass, or was it fun because, the hell with it, im getting paid too ???
The STX sounds like a V6 Mustang... wonder why. :-P It's interesting that the V6 Ecoboost is now the "premium" engine. I'm not sure I could ever get used to a V6 sound on a full-size truck. It just doesn't sound powerful. That being said, the numbers don't lie; it is a very good powerplant. Amazing how the V6 ecoboost performs better than the 6.2L V8, although in terms of sheer numbers, the 6.2L V8 is a more powerful engine. Interesting...
well i have raced an eco with my 09 hemi and i expected to lose it was a close race but the hemi pulled away especially from a 30mph roll it does have the boost to help on higher end but for some reason it just couldnt hang and the same thing with the 5.0 i have yet to race a 6.2 but usually the ones that have a 6.2 are all bark and no bite where i live
I'm going to call bullshit. I own a 2011 F-150 5.0L and it will take comparable Hemis in a drag race up until they put the 8-Speed behind the Hemi. I've never been able to beat a 6.2L Ford though.
Its the best engine in the lineup.. Offers just as much power as a V8 while getting decent fuel mileage. I wouldn't buy one just because I don't like the idea of a V6 in a truck, but numbers don't lie.
At best these do 24mpg, the average across the range is more like 20mpg. Why is there no fuel efficient diesel option? I know some people want power for overtaking but others would rather get 30mpg or better.
@man36021 the silverado compared just fine to them..except maybe the ecoboost..that thing is pretty cool..but it was kinda dumb of ford to buld a V6 that will outperform their OWN V8..sheesh..besides..this is'nt no real GM vs Ford truck test..if they where doing towing text and a bed and frame flex test..you would see the Silverado excel..there are all sorts of vids up the the F 150 having a frame that flexes like crazy...with frame flex being up to 1 inch while the silverado only had 1/4th in
I'm a truck guy, I'm disappointed with how u guys test trucks and SUVs. Where is the towing and hauling test. Where is comfort and amenities. That's what truck people like. Straight ahead speed is good and braking and some light off road. That is testing
"This is the first time in a long time that a V6 has been the engine at the top of a half-ton's line up." First time in a long time? That implies that there was another time where a V6 was used in a top-line half-ton pickup, which to my knowledge has never happened. Please don't be sloppy about journalism... if you don't bother to do your research, don't use meaningless statements such as, "this is the first time in a long time."
shorter wheel base makes it better at the track? really? trucks aren't meant for track. test them while pulling some cattle or some farm equipment, what they are meant for
Don't test these things like a sports cars, test thier towing capacity, test thier max payload, test thier off road ability, or even have them crush silverados, do something these trucks were built to do.

2. 6.0L V12 Turbo Diesel - 493hp, 737lb-ft of torque. 0-62 = 5.5s!!!; mpg = 16 city/25 hwy
So, stuff the puny 3.0L diesel, get a 4.2L Audi TDI (better city & hwy mpg than all current F150 engines) into an F150 and watch it really smoke the competition :)
i love the ford ecoboost and i know the engine is reliable but ill believe the turbos are reliable when a private company tests it
@SuperZzz911 every company does tests like those and the results are always in their favor, chevrolet: constantly having every vehicle recalled over lousy engineering techniques, dodge: dips oil drops grease everywhere, ford: first on race day, ford: for off road destruction
I m proud of ford. I bought a 2011 fx4, nicest truck made right now. Chevy is the fastest with its 6.2 vette enjine first time they have used a vette enjine in there truck it runs 14.3s stock. Dodge just lay down you dont have the stuff
what happened to this video? it was posted and then I couldn't see it again until just now.
this is a good test but it lacks a lot. Sure all the motors have a lot for and some against them but what truck users want to see is hauling/towing along with how good a pickup has pick up.
Exactly!!! That's why I couldn't believe how proud ford was that they had four new engines,,,, and not one of them was a diesel!?
Yo woman! O_o That's an odd looking kitchen you'vegot there..! Lol! ;D
WHAT? NO RAPTOR?
Albert BlackPearl the raptor is a 6.2 and the Harley Davidson is a 6.2 as well
Which kind of truck owner would take his truck to the track?? motortrend please reply.
The ecoboost is awesome but I would wait a couple more years for reliability reviews because turbos are very easy to blow
Are you kidding?
@OtherVincentLee Pretty sure you're right. They may have gotten something wrong in their last video and had to edit...
this is the first time I see Ms Hardwood talking, most of the time I just read her thoughts on MT magazine, honey your hot with the trucks...
my dad jus got a 11 ford f150 saturday....but it has the 5.0 mustang engines...idk if it would be the same in this video
Imo the new F-150 is the best looking truck on the market right now. Chevy and dodge trucks look pretty ugly these days.
@mustang750r Its still part of the "Full Line", its a much different truck from the Harley.
this is an old video. why are you re-uploading it??
360 hp for the 5.0? Is that rwhp or are the calculating drivetrain loss into it? Can't really make out the dyno sheet.
No, this video isn't formatted very good, the 360hp rating for the first gen F-150 5.0L's was at the crank, factory stock their wheel horsepower was usually between 290hp and 310hp.
I'm thinking that 3.7 with some options will be a nice used option!
no replacement for displacement.... i'd go with the 6.2 over the ecoboost any day
What on earth? Didn't they post this video already? Im 99% sure that they did, re upload?
You are right, it does work in Europe. In America, the benefits of diesel over gas are few. Diesel costs more per gallon than gas and required maintenance is more for a diesel. To really start seeing the benefits of cost savings from a diesel the time frame is about 10 years. In a new car culture like the one here, there just isn't enough justification to make the switch to diesel. It would take something awfull to happen for that change to occur. Like $9 per gallon gas in the EU.
@loudblazer The HD is the Raptor of the streets. At least thats how I see it. They share the same engine.
To be honest its nice and all but the gas your saveing is really next to nothing. Theirs literally 1 MPG difference from the 5.0
Plus the 5.0 you can run E85. More power, way cheaper, and just lose a bit of fuel economy.
@KLINGY94 Well their point is to standardize testing across all vehicles so there is room for comparison. If you tested hatchs like hatches trucks like trucks then it would mean that technical comparison would be difficult.
for all u dodge fans saying a hemi is better watch the ecoboost tortur test number 4 the ecoboost beat the dodge in the 0-60 with a 9000 pound trailer by 4.3 sec
why no rousch truck option or the power stroke diesel
probably reposted from all the kitchen jokes lol were just gonna do it again
@BastaniPro19 But the turbo does not produce maximum torque at lower end and more parts to fail.
@BastaniPro19 semi trucks have been running inline 6 cylinder engines with a massive turbo for like for ever
i am liking this verbal because your a genius. And second there are missing some f-150 cars.
@DCuerpoJr
Search EcoBoost Torture Test, i know it's just the 3.5 but still very impressive
How much does they weight ? 6 tons?
My stock 6.2 Ford powered Dyno run 330HP 350 Torque 15.7 quarter mile time 89.4 Miles per hour
Can't wait to see what people do with that 6cyl twin turbo.
What's up with the strange truck in the middle? 0:12?
What about the fx4, fx2, the raptor and the platinum?
where's the SVT Raptor model??
@mustang750r
Odd because the video has "First Test" within the title.
@desimunda116 Ford will be happy to hear that. Ford does have some pretty sweet stuff out right now.
Damn. My '07 STX V6 makes 100 horsepower less with only 10 ft-lbs of torque behind that STX. Nice improvement Ford.
interesting, i got the competitions ad before the video...
The STX sounds like a V6 Mustang... wonder why. :-P
It's interesting that the V6 Ecoboost is now the "premium" engine.
@DCuerpoJr They've done those tests already in previous vids.
does XL super cab come in other colors?I always se
@Disawat what about a 95 f150 ... that looked boxy/square
get ed loh to review this. he's probably the best reviewer mt has.
nope for the 2009 and 2010 years ford offered only a (2v 4.6 v8), (3v 4.6 v8) and a (3v 5.4 v8).
well i have raced an eco with my 09 hemi and i expected to lose it was a close race but the hemi pulled away especially from a 30mph roll it does have the boost to help on higher end but for some reason it just couldnt hang and the same thing with the 5.0 i have yet to race a 6.2 but usually the ones that have a 6.2 are all bark and no bite where i live
@TuckerMadison They do need to be vacuumed out now and then as well
At best these do 24mpg, the average across the range is more like 20mpg. Why is there no fuel efficient diesel option? I know some people want power for overtaking but others would rather get 30mpg or better.
The ranger needs that V6. If they want true reliable trq for that ecoboost. They need a strait 6 like the older 4.9.
Closed this as soon as I saw a woman reviewing a truck
Why? So they could be broken down and in the shop all the time?
@man36021 the silverado compared just fine to them..except maybe the ecoboost..that thing is pretty cool..but it was kinda dumb of ford to buld a V6 that will outperform their OWN V8..sheesh..besides..this is'nt no real GM vs Ford truck test..if they where doing towing text and a bed and frame flex test..you would see the Silverado excel..there are all sorts of vids up the the F 150 having a frame that flexes like crazy...with frame flex being up to 1 inch while the silverado only had 1/4th in
@BrutalFates I don't about that. The ranger is old. It hasn't been updated in 13 years. Its like ford just forgot about it.
Haven't we seen this before?
Hard braking in these trucks just looks so painful.. Should come with a chiropractor to adjust your neck too.
@DCuerpoJr they have those tests in other videos.
