A local dealership let me spend some time with two identical used 4x4s..one with EcoBoost and one with Coyote. I drove them on the same circuits, in the same manner, and evaluated each. At the end of the runs, the Coyote V8 truck showed a 0.3 MPG advantage over the EcoBoost, was $1,000 less to purchase, and was far less complicated under the hood. The V8 is the winner.
This is definitely what we needed. Ford finally got rid of the garbage 3 valve and gave us great engine options now with the all - new ecoboost. I love this truck's styling inside and outside even if it is starting to show it's age.
I just took over my late fathers 2011 xlt with the 5.0. He had it from new and always ran it to the dealership for anything. Lol. Yeah I know but that was my dads way god bless him. Lol. Only 80k on it so I was wondering the longevity on the 5.0. He would pull a camper with it but not often. Last few years it was mainly dr appointments and groceries. Sounds like it’s a solid machine and I should get lot miles out yet. That and I got a .44 magnum with a 10.5 inch barrel to remember dad by. (no pops was not at all a subtle man). Lol.
Just bought a 14 single cab long bed with the 3.7 non turbo. I cannot get over how that tiny thing has so much power, yet the 4.2 had 100 less horsepower and less torque too! It seems unreal that an engine that started out in the Taurus and edge is moving a truck like that.
I have the same motor in a heavier Supercab 4WD but it has the towing 3.73 axle ratio, and same impression. Its so smooth but revs crazy fast {up to 7k rpm} when u put your foot into and tows my boat in 5th gear uphill no problem getting 16mpg. The steering is so much lighter with less weight up front too, can change the oil filter standing up.
That 302 is a rock solid motor. I have a 2103 with 110,000 miles. Nothing but oil changes. I installed a K&N intake and a tuner...Runs like a beast. It will melt light truck 10 ply tires (275/65 18).

Hey@@Hanmablood what's up brother hows it going, yes my 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 now has 144,000 miles on it and still going strong and still sounding like a beast with no issues at all.

Also, the EB motor in the F150 has different turbos than in other Ford cars. They are supplied by the company that makes the compressors for the Powerstroke.
Nothing wrong with a 6 cylinder f150. Hell, look at the 300 straight six regarded as one of the most durable truck engines ever. 6 cylinders are very underrated motors.
@kidkyle17 Many Raptor owners are asking for a EB option to extend thier offroad range. I know of one Raptor with the 3.5 swapped into it. At high altitude it will pay dividends, because the turbo motor won't lose nearly as much power as the NA one. Same with the Cummins I6 turbo deisel, and all deisel engines. The EB supposedly pulls like a deisel, because it uses the same technology to make power- not just the turbos.
@kidkyle17 Im not sure if you dislike the fact its turbocharged, forced induction, or just a 6 cylinder. The old Lightnings had superchargers when Ford could have used thier v10, but they chose to blow the 5.4L. If the EB was supercharged would you like it more?
@kidkyle17 Getting slightly-better than 5.0 fuel economy with a engine that makes 420 lb-ft FROM 2500 all the way to 5000 rpm is why people choose ecoboost. No v8 makes that much torque at that low an rpm, or has that wide a torque band. With a naturally aspirated motor, you need it to rev high to make power, but as soon as the small turbos spool up you get instant torque.
I got 07 tundra 5.7 runs great crew cab 4x4 but that sumbitch has every light on the dash on the 4x4 don't work . Great strong runner but them lights on the dash looks like damn Christmas 🎄.

When you know that 1 in 8 American soldiers killed in Iraq from 2003-2007 were protecting oil convoys, what is unamerican? Trucks dont have big engine to be fast, they have them so they are safe to drive with tonnes behind them. It is not about being the baddest urban cowboy, it is about getting the job done and EB would do it better than a v8 engine for most people.
@kidkyle17 The Eco's number is significant when you consider it makes almost as much power as the 6.2L, and that motor gets horrible mileage compared to the 5.0L. Plus unlike the GM hybrid trucks, the EB has high tow/haul rating and the fuel saving will pay for itself in the life of the truck. and its not all about the environment- Ford knows they have tough FE standards to meet in the future, so they have to get ahead of the competition by doing this.
@kidkyle17 Most working men probably wont have an EB. They will take a 5.0 or a base 3.7 work truck. The EB is targeted at consumer truck buyers, the people that like the utility but dont really need a 1/2 ton truck. Environmentals dont drive trucks, and ford isnt taking this huge a risk on thier cash cow for no reason. Drive an Ecoboost truck and tell me what you think.
@kidkyle17 America is a nation built on innovation, and since trucks need to get better fuel economy Ecoboost is the best way to do that without giving up power.
