Their career stalled by the time 1970 arrived. Styles changed and their hits stopped. That is when they were reduced to doing lounge shows in LV to pay the rent. They were discovered by Fred Silverman who happened to catch their opening for Pat Boone in LV. He was the head of CBS television programing and offered them a Gig hosti as a summer replacement variety comedy series on prime time television. "The Sonny & Cher comedy hour" was a huge hit! That lead to the show being picked up by CBS. The show was in the 10 ten in the ratings and they did the show 3 years before they split up. The show ended. CHER had her own show and Sonny has his on ABC. Both ultimately were canned due to low ratings. Then they tired doing a new show as divorced Sonny & Cher. That lasted 2 years. It did not have the same spark the show they did together as a married couple. By the time they did the new show CHER was remarried to Gregg Alman and was preggy while doing a new show with her ex husband. Yeah, it was strange! After that show ended CHER moved on but hit a dry spell musically. She put out 3 solo albums that all flopped. Warner brothers records dropped her contract. By 1979 CHER had not had a hit record since 1974 with the #1 hit "Dark lady". Back then a commercial singer was considered a has been with no hits for that long. She returned to doing LV shows this time headlining in BIG Las Vegas production and with her glamours costumes and great dancers she was a BIG hit! Even so doing LV at that time was where has been went to make money. Things turned around when CHER's lover at the time Gene Simmons of the rock band "Kiss" got his record label Casablanca to sign CHER. They were thrilled to turn CHER into the white Donna Summers who had huge git records at that time. Donna had been with Casablanca records for 5 years at that time. CHER recorded "Take me Home" the same title of her first album on Casablanca records. It was a huge hit for CHER and at the time considered her BIG comeback. Sadly, after "Take me Home" was released in 1979 music styles again changed and disco was dead. After a few more albums on different labels with not hits representing the albums her music career again stalled. Back to LV where she stayed doing her success LV show. Then her film career got started but it was not something that happened quickly. It took about 5 years.
