Did you know that is cheaper to have a tour guide speaking Chinese than English. I asked her why is that. Her answer is because Chinese tourists come in big groups, English tourist come in very small group. Some English tourists don’t even bother to hire a local tour guide because they want to be independent and get lost
Wow ! I remember when you found this house, it had not been occupied for a long time and looked a little bid sad and abandoned, but now it's smiling and you've turned it into a museum ! I bet it has never seen better days. I love your decoration, it embodies your spirit and that of your grandma so well ! Despite all the terible events that are tearing us apart, you are here to remind us that we are one world and your video in Egypt and your home are proof of it.
Exactly, that’s how I felt after watching the video. Kay has an interesting soul, she seems softened a lot over the years, overall, he is a beautiful person.
Katherine, I always thought you are the coolest woman on UA-cam that I know of. However after watching your current videos and hearing about the stories of your Grandmother, I honestly think she is even cooler than you, considering the time and era that she lived in. Kudos to Her…
Grandma's cultural collections is so wonderful and inspiring, she must be very happy to know that her precious was inherited by someone in the family who share the same passion👍
Hi Katherine-pray you are fully charged up after returning from your home country. Looking forward to your educational, cultured and most of all cheerful and entertaining videos about journey throughout China. A big thank you
I’m Mexican! From central México but that mystery thing with the mirror fangs looks a lot like an alebrije possibly from Oaxaca or Chiapas. Most commonly made out of wood or clay. There are some simple ones, some complex ones, and I could be totally wrong but I’ve seen a lot of US tourists have them shipped to their homes because they were too big for their luggage!
Katherine, You are absolutely right. It's all about the neighborhood. Connecting with people not monuments. Sounds like you had a grand ole time on your layover. The house looks stunning. Harriet and I are a stickler for memorabilia, especially family ones. Thank you for the wonderful tour. Looking forward to seeing more of China. Sending much ❤love from Richmond, Va. Jim and Harriet
chatgpt says that "creepy" sculpture might be an alebrije, a mexican folk art. I think it make sense, because (wiki says, not I) an alegrije usually combines different animals together to create some colorful and fantastical imaginary creature. In this case, it combines a lizard, a snake, a bull, and a bat(?)
it's not a coincidence, I am just a big fan of 携程 chinese tourism website, i like their user interface better than foreign equivalents so i hired a guide through them. i wanted to explain this in the video but no matter how i said it, it always sounded like an ad LOL so i left it out
Language is truly fascinating; it connects people and makes the world a better place. The breathtaking churches in Egypt are also incredible to see-thank you for sharing them with us. Your home in Zhejiang is filled with memories (mostly from Grandma) and culture, and I love all the decorations on your walls; they make it feel so warm and welcoming. As always, Katie, stay safe and enjoy every moment!
I am glad you are keeping some of your grandma's stuff and treasuring it. I see too many things in estates sales where people are just indifferent about things. Family members often just want these things to just disappear.
There’s always no dragging to watch your videos. So much cool stuff in this one…from what you did and saw in Cairo to the interesting heirlooms raided from the US. Oh, and also your Chinese-speaking tour guide! :D
Another awesome video. Love the guide speaking Mandarin, and love you for just going for what interests you, powertools and pets ;) Too bad Aysajan wasn't there, he would have loved Egypt, I think. And very nice to honor your grandma like this
Okay,I got it. 阳离子 failed to run for the US president, and came back to China. Welcome back, but I feel it was a bit short to stay with your family. Hope you can persuade your parents to spend some days with you in 百丈。
Very nice video! Wow I never imagined that on your flight back to China you would stop in Egypt! Beautiful country indeed! I enjoyed the cave church, so particular, but also the mosque was amazing. The pyramids were fantastic and I didn't know they were so close to the neighbouroods of Cairo. Your house looks like a beautiful museum! Thank you Katherine for showing us the beauty of Egypt and take care 🍀 💕 🪻
How lovely to see a different part of Egypt. All I have seen is the Suez Canal and that was way back in time, long before you were a twinkle in your Dad's eye, 1959 to be exact. I hope your guide enjoyed looking after a different kind of tourist, she seemed to. Loved every minute of it. PS If you come back here, I have some very old sheet music in my cupboards.
@@kats_journey_east Mohammad started an anti-slavery campaign in Arabia then North Africa as Roman Empire had slaves. When the war was over there were many widows so Mohammad wisely allowed his followers to have four wives. Luckily the Chinese Emperor allowed Muslim traders to marry local Chinese girls but they must obey Chinese laws. No multiple wives allowed so we have the Hui Muslims. Xinjiang also do not allow multiple wives among Muslims. The mathematics of 4-wives system is simple. If there are 100 men and 100 hundred women. If 20% of the men have 4 wives then there will be 20 single women for 80 men. The 20 men being high status men would pick the best-looking women leaving the less attractive women unmarried. The 80 poorer men would be fighting over 20 ugly women. So we can see why Muslim nations have military dictatorships to keep single men in the barracks and also why Muslims have so many religious fanatics as most poorer boys end up in madrassas (religious schools) to be trained as cannon fodder for the religious leaders.
@@kats_journey_east Could have been an interesting walk from the pyramids to the cave church on the way taking in some sights and off beat neighborhoods. But most people think it is way too far, even on dedicated hiking trips many people walk less than that. Nevertheless, I think it is a great strategy for sightseeing.
With the excess of poorer males there is lot of sexual assaults against women in the street in Muslim countries like Egypt, Pakistan and India. India has 300 million Muslims and 1 billion Hindus.
I’m glad that you show the Christian faith in Egypt. Learn something new today, thanks. Another reason to have social media when the mainstream media never show the real things.
I'm from Alexandria. Ha ha. It's still early in the travel season. Meanwhile, in Dutch Appalachia country, the next generation of leaves are starting to change colors.
‘Did my family like.. raid somebody’s tomb or something. God, where does it come from?…’. 😂😂😂 Katherine, now you know, your grandma is the original - Lara, the tomb raider!!
I was shocked when the local tour guide speak Chinese not English. But feel so interesting immediately after that. 😊
There must be a lot of Chinese tourists.
Before COVID many Chinese tourist do travel many city in Europe tour guide cater to Chinese you see more sign in Chinese in Europe and middle East
I was just coming here to say that! Shocked!😮
❤

Wow! What an eclectic mishmash of cultural handicrafts in a rural Chinese home! One of the kind in a million! Your home can be a cultural museum leh!
