Totally agree with everything you said. Other than the higher cost, using it over OSB instead of house wrap takes care of air sealing, vapor sealing, and thermal bridging issues.
Rock foam is by far the absolute best. The anti fire properties alone make it number one but it’s insulation R value is good and it doesn’t shrink or expand much. Best material by far.
I am looking at the RMax Pro Select boards that you have here in your video with an R-5 rating, for my shed here in Florida. As I just added a new in wall AC unit. Temps are getting into the 90's here right now. My simple question is, do I place the reflective surface facing out (Facing the walls and ceiling) or facing into the shed interior, to help keep the heat out of my shed. I am also thinking about painting the boards that are facing in, as I will not be covering them up with drywall.
Any reason why I couldn't use this on the inside? I was wanting to build a house with a pretty thick wall for the sake of lasting a long time. From the outside layer, going in: 1" stone cladding, concrete block (filled and with rebar), 2" foam board insulation, 2x6 wall with R-19. Would be in zone 6.
Another problem I have seen is if you don't have OSB or chip board siding, where is your torsional/sheer strength in your framing. I once wired a house & I asked the Builder about this, he said " the drywall will provede that". I do NOT agree!
I'm wanting to use it during Winter months around my inflatable Intex PureSpa Deluxe hot tub. Also want to place one on the ground to cut for the base to insulate it on. I'm assuming the foil for base will be up so the tub sits on it. The sides the foil would be on the inside? Thinking 2 inch thickness would be the best for this situation?
I'm a builder. I would never install any foam board on exterior walls of a house. Because of expansion and contraction. I only use Rockwall on the exterior wall. Even Rockwall insulation will shrink over time. In another word, rigid board is best on the interior wall..😢😢😢 basement, garage, attic, etc.
Hello, I have a new construction project going and have a question. I'm thinking of using 2" rigid foam board in between the studs (16" on center) on my exterior walls, leaving a 1 1/2" air gap between the foam board and the exterior sheathing and foaming any gaps around the edges of the foam board between the studs. Then installing 1/2" foam board over the face of the studs on the exterior walls prior to installing 1/2" sheetrock. Would like your professional opinion on this. Also would i need to install a vapor barrier as well? Thank you
i wanted to us the ridged foam boards like the pink stuff until i found out ants and termites love to tunnel trough it, no way would i put this or spray foam in my house after everything i read.

Are you referring to Rockwool Insulation?

I'm pretty sure you install the reflective surface facing out, but check with the manufacturer to be sure.

Check with the manufacturer's installation instructions for whichever product you choose.

I'm sorry, what does expansion and contraction have to do with not using spray foam?.... this is a great product.
@@PPG1967 He said "foam board" not spray foam

So, will that meet your required R-value for exterior walls?

My inspector wants drywall to cover all the foam even in the garage... important to mention
Oh ok....I appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching!!!
