I didn’t know the history of the name of French drains. I always thought it had to do with the country of France. Thanks for the information. Good job guys, and your hard work will keep your stone cottage dry.
The shear amount of work that you take on and accomplish absolutely astounds me!!! You are amazing! Never in all my years have I seen a couple so lovingly in tune with each other!! Such a joy to watch! Blessings to you both!!❤❤
I am impressed with Victoria’s industriousness. She can and does use the same tools Ricky does. Ricky wears a hat to protect his bare head from the sun. Victoria must use sunscreen and hat to protect her fair skin on her face. I have had skin cancer four times already on my face and one big one on my back.
That’s three huge foundational projects done - the gutters on the roof, the awesome floor you laid, and now the French drain. So satisfying to watch your progress. Where the French drain ends do you think that would be a good spot to plant some pretty perennials? Seems like they’d get that extra water and. Grow very low maintence. When do you think you’ll actually be finishing enough to move in?
The dogs look happy in the Sunshine. Poppy looks like a teddy bear! Both beautiful. My back ached watching you two hand dig the french drain. Glad the damp is in control. One step closer to a cozy house
Good morning Ricky & Victoria. I am still in Clearwater Beach Fl. It’s so nice to be on the beach everyday as I walk outside. You are both such kind hardworking people. I hope you can eventually get a tractor to help. I grew up on a 100 acre farm we grew all our own meat & produce. The tractor was paramount 🙏🙏🙏Blessings
Nice to see you both enjoying the January sunshine in Portugal, lucky you! You work so well together, definitely 2 big jobs ticked off. Look forward to your next update, as ever.
Hi Victoria and Ricky. Good job on the French drain and shifting all those stones. The floors in the little house looks great and the weather there looks amazing while we are freezing over here in the UK lol. Xxx
Hi guys, I bet you won’t be sorry to see the back of that cement mixer Victoria. Great idea with the auger for breaking up the soil. Great French drain. Well done. Another thing off the list. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️
Couple questions… I know it’s not a race but how long have you been working on the tiny house (videos say 1 yr but real time ?) Does Victoria still have her remote job, as she’s always working on site and early on she was remote working. You two are the hardest, most precise workers on UA-cam! I feel the tiny house being inhabited very soon 🎉
We’ve been working on it over a year now. The videos are in real time 😊 We do the renovation & make the videos in our spare time which is why sometimes it’ll be 2 or 3 weeks between videos!😂
We had a problem with damp around our cottage so we cleared a walk way strip all the way around or as needed and put paving slabs up the wall all around where needed and cemented the wall to slab to stop water ingress all this done water didn’t stay near the house walls drained over the slab edge into the ground keeping the water away from the house no damp ever since, great videos watch everyone..
Great job guys! The only suggestion I have is to not lay soil directly over the gravel. Over time the soil will percolate through the gravel, not ideal. Also, to add an extra level of protection, lay some strong plastic long the ground up against the side of the house and sloping out a foot or two so water can move away from the house. I would lay some cloth over the gravel then the plastic over the cloth, then back fill with soil. Love your channel!!!
I was interested to hear the etymology of "French drain" and wondered what it was called in French... It seems they just ignored the fact that it was popularized by a guy named French, since it is called "drain français" here in France! Just a straight translation of the word that gives the credit to the country, rather than the man 😂 To be fair, Wikipedia says the concept "may have been invented in France." I suspect the history is a bit murky by now! As soon as I heard Ricky say that the augur drill would make it easier on the body... I rolled my eyes and said, "Are you kidding?" Those things are heavy and awkward! 🤣
With all the manual labor, you folks must be among the fittest people in the country- no need for diets, gym routines, etc. Your work is not only excellent, it is inspirational. Carry on!
Wow folks!! Great progress this week. Find time to recharge your batteries now, maybe a few drinks and nibbles, you’ve certainly earned it. Loved this week’s episode.
Your renovation is really motoring forwards now. Very satisfying for you to have completed 2 BIG jobs rather than all the little ones that don't show but have to be done. You will be living in that tiny house soon x well done!
Everything you do comes out so neatly done. Watching the trench being filled with the gravel and then the fabric being folded over and then the gravel on the top was very satisfying to my quirky ways!
Ricky & Victoria, awesome job on the french drain. I had to do one about 20 years ago. All by myself! It's hard work, but it saved my lawn from being flooded by my neighbor every week. Wishing you a strong 2025!🎉🎉
Really well done! You're both really ticking along. Your guests are really going to enjoy having a place of their own! I enjoyed this one so much and wait to see the next post! Thank you so much for sharing your work and fun time together.
Yay! Great job! Well thought out & executed!!! I’m so excited for the dry floors of the tiny house!! Congratulations on excellent progress! Thanks for sharing!
Hi to you. How lovely to see the sunshine where you. I think the UK sun has run off to where you are 😅 You always put in such hard graft and give every project 100% effort - well done. How do you find time to relax? I look forward to your next video x
