You really are blessed to have such amazing, loyal friends to help you. You're all a great team together. Your enthusiasm is infectious. It's so wonderful to see the bricks being laid for the extension. Wow, it's really taking shape. I'm curious as to what your exciting personal news is on your next video on Wednesday 🤔 I'll be watching! Take good care ❤xx
Awh, thanks as always Harley! Our pals are amazing, they’re always willing to give us a day to help out- we’re so grateful for it!!! Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until Wednesday- but we can’t wait to share it 🥳🥰 x
Fantastic job Nicky and Harry. To eliminate any bounce in the timber joists, you can build 3 block piers under the centre of the joists with a spine joist on top that carries the centre of all the other joists, this will prevent any bounce in future. You can still do this as you have access.
I’m pretty sure you guys edit these videos, if so you really are doing great! As a professional editor myself I can definitely see the progression you have had, in all aspects; story telling, b roll, shot composure and the time-lapses, I really think you have a good balance of raw character keeping it engaging and fun to watch. Superb job guys, can’t wait to see this one finished! 💙🔥
Nice to see the progression, which I am sure is lifting your spirits. You have a lot of good people around you, which is something to be appreciated when times are not easy. Always stay happy and look back when all is done and think we did this. Well done to both of you. X
This was perfectly timed for me as I sit in my freezing cold house, on a coffee break, looking for some motivation. Thank you for that. You guys put me to shame, you get so much done, its brilliant. You have a great team!
As someone has mentioned the blockwork has not been set out correctly. The corners should have a 100mm block alternating on each course to give you half bond. Where your door and window openings are formed there should be a wall tie at every course preferably within 150 mm of the openings. ( they do not look like they are there ). Where you join the new blockwork to the existing brickwork there should be a vertical cut in the old brickwork through to the original bungalow cavity with a vertical d.p.c. This stops/ reduces the risk of damp . If you are putting insulation in as you go then the wall ties should be in a vertical pattern not staggered. ( not so important) Regarding comments on the floor. As long as you have a 225 air gap beneath your joists and sufficient ventilation to allow air flow with a vapour barrier directly beneath your flooring , then I believe this is ok. The comment of putting in a supporting wall under is a good idea but your engineer should have been ok with what you have done. Not criticising just trying to educate as iv'e been in the industry a long time and constantly make mistakes.
Couldn't help but notice your engagement ring.Congratulations to both .You are such a partnership.Lovely news. Will be looking out for your Wednesday vlog.😀🎆💎
Great to see the extension going up. It is great that you have amazing friends to help out. Lovely to see. 😊 ooooh can’t wait for Wednesday announcements. I wasn’t going to say what I thought but Harry did say guess in the comments. I think engaged. I did see something. 😉
You have the best friends in the world and Mick the bricky is a machine. Congratulations on your engagement, I wouldn't be wearing that rock on a building site though 😮
Telling you now micks no bricklayer lol cuts in middle of wall , 1/4 bond all round. Not good . Chase the bond all the way round on the first course, it’s not hard. I work with thermalite blocks daily they don’t make a stong wall at the best of times let alone being laid 1/4. Sorry
I would help just for that roll God that looked good🤤 judging by that big rock on your finger you have God engaged 🎉 you both deserve it and fair play to you both doing all the work yours self as I have done a lot of building work and it's damn hard work so so good on you both 💪
Congratulations to both of you, spotted that beautiful ring at the end of the vlog! I just love watching your builds, I'm currently living in my bungalow which is being refurbished, it's stressful. You both make it look easy. Big hugs ❤❤
Really entertaining to see building methods where you are-very different from the states! Riddle answer is bank? And what’s that on your finger? Great job everyone “
Great progress! Gotta love Mickey the Brickie….. proper old school, the old water level technique 👏 and a few lines. Who needs a laser blah blah 🤣🤣 Harri on the trowel as well 💪…… you get a great confidence boost when you’ve got knowledge around you. Looking forward to Wednesday 😉……. A lot of twinkling in people’s eyes….. 😍 ❤ Phil
I did an extension too (not in the UK), but I must say it's the strangest and most complicated way of building I've seen. Not to disconsider your work, I actually think it's impressive, but here we do taller foundations (basically up to the DPC) and then start laying brick or block from there (after putting the membrane, of course). Since we have earthquakes we also do concrete posts. Anyway, watching you gives me so much energy I almost want to start building something.
I’m not a brickie so I have a question for Mick the brickie . Why are the blocks not laid half bond (I see some are and most aren’t), I assume this would lose strength in the wall if not laid half bond? I’m looking forward to be educated 🤩👍
I’m loving this brick laying section of the build, well done 👏🏼. My guess for Wednesday is there maybe a baby brickie on the way ? can’t wait for Wednesday
Ok we are in bed at 6pm about to watch Titanic (who even are we) and this video got us pumped for a week of work on our reno! But we just need somoines who makes 9.5/10 sarnies on the reg 😅. Well done you two beauts!
Congrats on the engagement? Massive ring suggests so!! Enjoyed the video guys. Can you maybe do some explainers about why you are doing some things in a little more detail? Like what is going in the void between the blocks, why you fill it to a certain level etc? Thanks, great work. Many congrats!
Great progress on the brick work. It is so labour intensive so awesome you had all the help you had. My notifications are on for Wednesday’s video although I think I know what you’re announcing 👩🏼❤️💋👨🏻💍💖
Coming along nicely...you all work so hard, well done..harri, watch your step lad! Still don't know how you cope with all that wet and mud...I just couldn't 😂😂 can't wait until next Sunday 🎉
great video as always its great to see your project progressing amazingly you have some great friends that love helping out , i think the news maybe your getting a puppy a extra addition to your family
Just a tip for cutting all those timbers and marking them. Use a stopper attached to chop saw and that way cuts perfect every time and requires no marking.
Enjoyed the vlog Nicky , Harri 😊😊😊 you have all worked so hard , will be looking forward to wednesday announcements its going to be that you are engaged , there was a ring 💍 on Nicky finger in the vlog ❤ ❤

Huge congratulations to you both on your Engagement 🎉❤.

TU as they need to see this. Saying that, I like the idea of the gap under the floors as they can also install piping and whatnot down there.

Clearly, the block layer and engineer they are using are incompetent
I’m sure their building inspector will be pointing out exactly what is and isn’t meeting regulations 👍🏼
@sarahann530 the brickie is.

Bloody hell, you guys are so inspiring 😅
Wow, amazing progress on your kitchen build. Really enjoyed your journey
Not sure if any has commented about this yet but I would definitely use construction adhesive on the osb plywood to eliminate any squeaks.

It’s either getting engaged, baby news, or approvals of something we didn’t know!!!!!!
Funny shape of the foundations. I wonder if they could have been backfilled to prevent the warping?
Ok we are in bed at 6pm about to watch Titanic (who even are we) and this video got us pumped for a week of work on our reno! But we just need somoines who makes 9.5/10 sarnies on the reg 😅. Well done you two beauts!

Congrats you two. Harri best thing you will every do and the best catch ;)

tip. don't put your barrow side on to the mixer when emptying it. put it straight on and it won't risk tipping over

Congrats on the engagement? Massive ring suggests so!!
Enjoyed the video guys.
Can you maybe do some explainers about why you are doing some things in a little more detail? Like what is going in the void between the blocks, why you fill it to a certain level etc?

Very good progress here! tip : I probably would have wrapped the ends of the joists with dpm. it's not good when timber touches the bricks..
Really nice videos!
