Haschwalth's whole characterization is interesting. The man is all about loyalty and yet he betrayed his friend in the name of serving Yhwach. Only to have his loyalty to Yhwach rewarded with death.
@N8 2020 Strats I can understand why you think he was planning to betray him. Haschwalth's the reason there are still quincy around during the events of CFYOW

Since he was the other half of Ywacht. His dilemma was whether he had chosen the right path seeing that Uryu didn't mind sacrificing himself for his friends, even knowing the power of the antagonist. Haschwalth accepted his destiny from the moment that He meet Ywacht. He was a very built character. Beyond Good and Evil
I like how Jugram gave up a genuine bond with Bazz, to obtain a seemingly more beneficial bond with Yhwach. Only for him to realize that he had abandoned his only true friend, to serve a man who cared nothing about him. I think he saw his own death with the Almighty, but felt that he deserve such a fate. His story is quite sad, but he might have found some peace in helping Uryu in his final moments.

Hash saw the face that couldn't accept hash being stronger and more useful to Yhwach. So Buzz is at fault also for abandoning Hash due to his envy and looking down on his friends. The way I can understand "The Balance" is like an equation. If his opponent gains 1 fortune (damages him, evades attack, grows stronger, etc.) the Balance removes it, and turns it into a misfortune. So if they both start at 0, once the opponent gets a fortunate event, the balance is activated, and it goes from 0 to 1 to -1. And possibly, if Haschwalth is injured, he would also move that misfortune onto his opponent too, making them rest at -2.
He says that "All fortune is met with an equivalent amount of misfortune". In other words, if you have 1 fortune point, it would be met with -1 fortune points and reduced to 0. The shield would then reflect his own losses on to you, causing you to have -1 in total. Cang Du is a great example... He was able to block haschwalth's strike, so The Balance took his durability (fortune) and met it with an equivalent amount of "negative durability" (misfortune). This resulted in his total durability being 0. Thus, Jugram sliced right through his iron skin and split him in half.
The balance was actually first shown against ichigo when ichigo got lucky by accidentally activating blut vene and survived yhwach's attack. So Jugram rained misfortune on Ichigo by effortlessly breaking tensa zangetsu. Then he also almost used it against Nanao and Shunsui who got lucky twice with a barrier to block his attacks but was called back by Yhwach to punish Cang Du and Bg9. He also used it against Buzz who survived Aushwallen and his fortune was balanced by misfortune from Jugram to overpower and kill him.

@@zaiminnosi2905 isn't Tensa Zangetsu already shown to be chipped before the fight against Haschwalt? Yhwach probably chipping it even more and Haschwalt get the last blow.
I do believe that there was another instance of The Balance being used. I believe that Jugram used The Balance to break Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu, and did not break it only by sheer strength or by having a better weapon. Up until that point, Ichigo had been very fortunate, like by escaping Quilge's The Jail by awakening his quincy powers, and surviving a direct blow to the neck by Yhwach via unknowingly activating Blut Vene, and afterwards managing to injure Yhwach himself. Perhaps even the fact that Yhwach was out of time outside the Schatten Bereich could be counted as fortune for Ichigo. When Ichigo went in to attack Yhwach and Jugram as they were going away, I believe then Jugram used The Balance to convert Ichigo's fortune into misfortune, which resulted in his bankai being broken. I think it's a very satisfying theory, personally.

I don't think the thing with Yhwach running out of time was related to the balance as even he himself explains that during his meeting with Aizen, Aizen had used some kind of trickery to speed up time within the space of the seal that he was contained in when Yhwach traveled in there to try and recruit him.
Haschwald having an epiphany and ensuring the salvation of the surviving Quincies with his lady companion was his ultimate contribution. She is now essentially the leader of Quincy holdovers in the human world, just goes to show that Haschwald had some hidden depths despite his utter loyalty to Yhwach.
Probably Haswalth saw the defeat of Quincys with Almighty and his death, so he wanted to make sure that the surviving Quincys would escape safely. This is only my theory 😅

Not sure how Haschwalth's Balance would fair against One Hit Characters like Zaraki and Gerard. Fortune and misfortune would only apply to people who are alive. If Haschwalth were to be killed in one hit then surely his ability would cease to function? Unlike Gerard who is virtually immortal and becomes stronger everytime is dealt damage. Haschwalth's Balance only comes into effect once the misfortune is realized by Haschwalth.
Gerard never killed anyone in one hot though. Infact he was getting one shotted throughout the fight by Kenpachi, Toshiro and Byakuya but always came back. He never oneshotted Kenpachi, whose body is already torn apart by his own bankai. Gerard relies on the concept of Miracle aka good fortune. It is a miracle that he can come back, it is also a miracle that he survived the encounter against alot of captains. Since Miracle is pretty much employing "good fortune" as its main source of power, Balance should be the perfect counter to it
Out of all the stern rittter I think i would want either Uryu ability or Gremmy. It's scary when you think about the fact that all of the quincy op powers are just pieces of Ywach power. Ywach might be the most op antagonist in anime

Awesome video! I'm glad that I'm not only one who speculated that the true power of the Balance is to manipulate cause and effect. The one disagreement I have is that Haschwalth never said that his schrift is limited to redirecting misfortunes that happened only to himself. As he explained to Uryu, his power is to allocate misfortunes that occur in his domain to the fortunate. In other words, even misfortunes that occurred to allies can be redirected to the fortunate. Right when he was conversing with Kyoraku, he had analyzed the battles in the Seirietiei and concluded they were balanced. It is implied that his Balance has a huge area of effect and can redirect misfortune from anywhere. I imagine for this to be effective, Haschwalth's spiritual sensing has to be off the charts, and he may have a bit of clairvoyance on his own even without the Almighty. And yeah, I'm hoping the anime will expand on this amazing schrift. I'm guessing the reason why there are only two instances of him using his schrift is because he's immensely powerful in terms of raw power too. He broke Tensa Zangetsu and decimated Bazz-b with his skill as a swordsman. Even with Cang Du, it's likely he could have dealt with him without using his schrift, but Kubo used that moment to give a hint at what his schrift is all about.
The Balance is basically D4C: Love Train, but actually controllable, which makes it truly OP. Also, with Cang Du, I always thought the Balance simply allowed Haschwalth the good fortune of finding a weak point in Cang Du's defenses in order to bisect the latter.
@@Saint.Topman Yeah, because the Freundschilde can take in all the calamity, and Haschwalth can convert it to good fortune for himself. Without the shield, he might actually be fucked.
The Balance is the written equivalent to changing the rules of a game you're losing. Tito made one of the greatest manga ever, but the Balance and Miracle felt like lazy writing mechanics. Even explaining how it worked had me rolling my eyes. It literally a "because I said so" power, and they will never not feel lazy in writing.
I generally agree. And Kubo missed some opportunities to make some stuff make sense. E.g. There is one panel in the Gerald fight where Kenpachi cleaves Gerald in two, but Gerald'd body and blood are drawn back together around a quincy cross inside him. If Kubo had better health, he could have explored the significance of thst cross in placing a limit on Gerald (or the cross simply being Gerald's only weakpoint which has to be destroyed, or something like that). As written, I actually got bored towards the end of the fight because it was going nowhere. As for Haschwald and Balance, it felt to me that something was deemed good fortune just because Haschwald said so (e.g. cutting through the dude using Iron Skin).
The balance is underrated as heck. A friend of mine argues that it is capable of withstanding the Almighty (pre soul king absorbed) but i don't quite agree with him. However it can be extremely useful against opponent's such as Aizen and Ichibe with their abilities too.
I think it's going to be useless against ichibei because once he got his ink on jugram it's over because he'll remove all his powers and what makes the balance works similar to what yhwach did to Gerard. Or just change the name of the balance to something else or call him a name that wouldn't allow him use his power....but that's if he knows about the ability very well though but judging his fight against yhwach he'll decimate jugram iMO. Aizen on the other hand... jugram just needs to look at him and he's finished. Gerald is the most problematic for the shinigamis iMO.
@@lexogun1311 true... However i was considering that if Jugram has his shield that will take the misfortune (which will be great in this case) he could reflect it back to Ichibe, then Ichibe will be as weak as whatever he called Jugram. You forget that physical prowess are what needs to be taken into account as well. If Gerard or Kenpachi blast or cut Haschwalth in half, there is no balance to be done there. The reason Jugram is so powerful is his shield, he needed to use it, in order to counter Antithesis and not take that much damage himself, which proves he isn't all that physically tough. A brute strength and otherworldly move from Gerard or Zaraki would end him. Actually, the combo of Haschwalth and Yhwach is what can't be beaten IMO.

OOne thing I'm curious about: does the transfer of damage to the shield happen independent of Haschwalth's will, and if so; what would happen if an enemy was able to take the shield from him? I'm thinking someone like Ichigo in Bankai or Soifon going all out in speed to get in and out of his area of effect with it. Or is this a situation like with Uryu's bow where he can just form another one? This is all assuming that there's a minor delay in The Balance taking effect and suddenly nerfing that same speed. Only ways I can think of to beat this guy would be incredibly complicated and have numerous flaws for The Balance to exploit.
it's wild how much I have to explain how busted his schrift is and people overlook it for abilities like gremmy's, which is busted as well but because of the nuance behind Haschwalth's ability, it seems to be misunderstood and overlooked.
I know this video is about Shrift B (Balance), but I want to know something about Antithesis. Is it possible to use Antithesis to take/steal abilities from your enemy and give them to your friend? If I break a wooden board I can use Antithesis to swap the damage between the board and the enemy? Is it possible to use Antithesis to take away years of your enemy’s life in order to extend your own?Thank you for your attention. I will be glad if you answer my questions. Because in the anime it was shown that with the help of Antithesis you can swap the location of two objects. Don’t get me wrong I love the Quincy abilities but sometimes they are so broken and confusing. Most soul reapers can’t do shit against them and if they do win it’s sum lucky shit that happens.
The Balance was a perfect counter to the Antithesis because the latter can transfer injuries from anyone to anyone else, or maybe just any damage if inanimate objects count. This counts as good fortune, which Haschwalth would immediately turn into bad fortune, and if Uryuu kept responding with the Antithesis, Haschwalth would respond in kind and overwhelm Uryuu.
In a vs we often throw mentality out of the picture. However, fights are won and lost in your mind in the world of bleach. Determination can best skill. The best skills are a labor of determination. As poetic as: To be or not to be. That is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. On your vs can you throw in the added match within the match? You should describe why they are fighting, motivation to win can help. Destroying an opponent before they can power up, for instance. Or making the fatal mistake of feeding the opponents energy at the expense of your energy. Based on numbers alone. Balance may destroy every fiber of someone’s being interrupting the process of gaining more strength. Balance gives back the energy, plus some. What needs to be determined: How much can each person withstand, before the process is broken?
So how it works is it just puts the misfortune from jugram to the enemy then double it. It’s still a balance because the balance was already out of place because of the enemy therefore correcting it and transferring it back so it is still a balance. At 7:13 he stated there’s a common denominator and that the balance doesn’t really balance when it actually does the balance goes out of place due to the enemy therefore the balance needs to rectify the problem so it takes away there fortune and let’s jugrsm have some it’s a bit like karma ( reap what you sow ).Yhwach would have a little problem with that considering haschwalth doesn’t have to attack to transfer to Yhwach so if he get hurt by Yhwach, there is no timeline in where Yhwach can avoid it because it just passively goes to him and the almighty only can alter Physical attacks from different timelines. The statement of when jugram said antithesis can rival the almighty that’s because it’s a passive ability and so is the balance although Yhwach can just use alschwallen on him.

How does the x axis vs the balance play out? One makes you straight intangible to all damage while the other makes sure to balance out any misfortune and fortune. Edit: we would have to assume the balance itself is capable of touching the intangibility by turning him tangible. I don’t think it goes that far to the point of turning off the power
Anything you throw to jugram count as misfortune, including ichibei ink. With that, the balance throw it back to whoever did that misfortune to jugram.
Just like what jugram did to cangdu he nullified his schrift "I" the iron. And jugram did that even thou cangdu didn't attack jugram. Now, if you argue that jugram use his superior reatsu to cut cangdu that is already debunked cuz in the manga jugram clearly stated that "I see... How wonderful... Its your second good fortune... Can you see it the tilted scales?" - a clear evidence that jugram use his schrift "B" the balance to cut through cangdu body. If jugram B didn't remove the ability of cangdu schrift, then he shouldn't be cut by jugram sword. Therefore, same fate to what happened to Lille's intangibility.
so simply he can reverse misfortune that DIRECTLY effects him. His offense is dealing misfortune ontop of the misfortune already in place for the opponent when they put him in an unfortunate predicament
I don’t know much about the in-between of the later half of TYBW. All I heard was how busted this ability is and honestly it’s amazing how “The Balance” is deliberately unbalanced as hell.
when CangDu said only his majesty can kill him or execute him he was so unlucky that Hashwalt is almost Yhwach and his power is second to their quincy King in the event Yhwach dies and there is no succeseor he will be the replacement.
If Haschwalth's fortune of victory in a single battle yielded him a greater misfortune overall, his opponent may be able to overcome The Balance. One has to wonder what circumstance could be defined in this way. Say, if Hashwalth's family were to be killed should he win the battle. Or if he should betray his God, should he win. (Why the Balance couldn't counteract Auchwalen)
I feel like between the balance vs the miracle, it would definitely be a draw, but only in the sense that Gerard can't be killed seemingly. I think if it were a boxing match and you were scoring points though, after 12 rounds the balance would take the win.
I think the Balance could easily be countered in probably one of 2 ways that we'll call the direct route and indirect route. The direct route has to do with Hash's shield itself. That's the weakness. While it is able to reflect damage/misfortune, it also only reflects damage that HASH PERSONALLY SUFFFERS directly ie bodily harm or being unable to do something himself directly. However if a character, ie Kenpachi shikai, cuts/destroys just the shield directly WHILE he purposefully keeps taking damage (like he did in his Tousen bankai battle), he both can negate the fortune part of Balance (because he's not blocking incoming damage from Hash), while also attacking the shield (not Hash himself). Once the shield is negated, the Balance has nothing to reflect with, like a broken mirror. The indirect route is simply capitalizing on the other weakness that Hash himself has which is he can only misdirect fortune/misfortune "in his purview/area/vicinity". If a character "infects" Hash with an illusion, like Aizen's shikai, or a delayed "poison" such as Gin's Bankai or Mayuri's poison/paralysis (but they never physically injured Hash, just apply the status effect) and then that same character gets out of "range" of Hash's area/line of sight and is able to have the damage trigger after the fact to Hash, then there is noone/nothing nearby to reflect the Balance onto, thus Hash will have to take that damage himself. His weakness essentially is to be able to "fatally damage" when him when you're not around/after disengagement. It can't be in real time, or in a current battle with him.
He can just create another one lol... its a reishi weapon. He can just create another shield, and Kenpachi doing so would be good fortune... I'm sorry Kenpachi doesn't win this.
@@DBZimran awesome! Thanks a million.

I do believe that there was another instance of The Balance being used. It's a Great Theory but that explanation doesn't work until after Jugram reveals his Shrift.

That's a really good take.

I would love a further explanation of the schrift feedback loop
The Balance is basically D4C: Love Train, but actually controllable, which makes it truly OP.
Also, with Cang Du, I always thought the Balance simply allowed Haschwalth the good fortune of finding a weak point in Cang Du's defenses in order to bisect the latter.
I would say it is less absolute compared to D4C but in effect it serves the same purpouse.
Balance is certainly more broken. Just one of it's effect is what dc4 does.
It’s kinda counter to womder of U ? Since it can redirect the misfortune caused by WOU to toro
Love train is higher scale and can send misfortune across space/world as well as maybe time, but both are borderline reality warping

You forget that physical prowess are what needs to be taken into account as well. If Gerard or Kenpachi blast or cut Haschwalth in half, there is no balance to be done there.

So how it works is it just puts the misfortune from jugram to the enemy then double it. At 7:13 he stated there’s a common denominator and that the balance doesn’t really balance when it actually does the balance goes out of place due to the enemy therefore the balance needs to rectify the problem so it takes away there fortune and let’s jugrsm have some it’s a bit like karma ( reap what you sow ).Yhwach would have a little problem with that considering haschwalth doesn’t have to attack to transfer to Yhwach so if he get hurt by Yhwach, there is no timeline in where Yhwach can avoid it because it just passively goes to him and the almighty only can alter

The iron was a power that it turned off
Anything you throw to jugram count as misfortune, including ichibei ink.

But does the balance can consider immortality as a luck for the foe and bring it to jugram to or just remove it from the owner?!
Jugram is immune to his ability thanks to Freund Shield which will absorb the misfortune and redirect it to his opponents and strike them harder.

Not at all
I think the Balance could easily be countered in probably one of 2 ways that we'll call the direct route and indirect route.

It's truly a terrifying ability because not only can he defile events that have already taken place in reverse them but he can also direct any damage or anything taken between two designated targets it doesn't even have to be designated between him and the target it can be between him and another target or two other targets comparatively if you watch the Naruto the Akatsuki member heating and his ritual where he would stab himself The antithesis could do that and directed to the opponent It would be an unbeatable ability if the user was a villain opponent. The almighty altars future events the antithesis is the antithesis of the Almighty which alters past events.

Haschwalth should just be called "B" The Broken
12:03 but if he can imagine anything and it comes true
Can he just imagine that his abilities won't work on him?
If Haschwalth ever stole a bonkai whose would it be? Urahara, Shunsui, Ukitake or Byakuya?
i like how anime writers just replace "you cannot hurt me and I will return anything you throw at me back to you" with some other contrived pseudocomplicated stuff
In other terms, Jugram has the same pattern of Damnatio in Black Clover.
I think it was the balance that killed haschwalt. When Uyru used the antithesis on him directly there nothing shielding him from the misfortune. So when Ywach used the ashwalen the balance tipped it to target him instead of uryu.
Jugram is immune to his own power in every case, so idk about that mate.
I think the visionary could cause a stalemate with the balance as well 🤔
Definitely not
