With all the noctowls, pidgeots, and talonflames running around, I built an anti flyer team. In 25 battles, I saw 3 noctowl, 1 talonflame, 1 swellow, and a gligar. Barely saw any flyers and not a single pidgeot. Algorithm is crazy.
I heard about this algorithm and felt it my self a little and just started to lose about 50% on purpose (cause that’s what the algorithm does anyway with annoying hard counters), safes a lot of time plus u can go for a 5 win if u want to
I think a GREAT example of this is anyone who's come across a Mew. There are literally 25 moves that thing can hold and yet, it conveniently has the move which counters yours. That's not a coincidence!
@@Catrambi when you have payed enough, the moves from your mew is almost everytime effective. So you can use icebeam or whatever you whant. Rest is algorythm
I always remember how carefully worded that statement from Niantic was…”There is no algorithm that matches trainers based off of selected Pokémon.” They made sure to carefully word that because it’s not based on selected Pokemon, it’s based on the movesets. The company is full of conniving slimeballs.
one could go a little further and say it's not only based on movesets but also typing of the pokemon. that way, they can hide behind the statement and it would still hold true as far as selected pokemon (by name). the algo would primarily matchmake via those two conditions.
Like I been saying for ages ( since they made that statement ) the translation of this omission reads : The algorythm we use is based off pokemon movesets. They literally CONFIRMED the existance of some kind of algorythm with this statement ( prior to this I was unsure on this issue ). I have no personal issue with an algorythm being used, but I do have issue with it being lied about and players being confused about the issue.
I like that. Or even the format they use for tourneys would be more enjoyable. If they just completely removed what Pokemon typing/movesets you're using from the algorithm and just made it completely random I think more people would play it too. I don't get why Pokemon games have to be so anti-competitive.
I'm a good battler, with good IV pokemon, and I can NEVER get out of ACE Rank. Every time I get close my next 10 battles I lose opening matchup and get hard countered on switch. It really feels like the game doesn't want me to do better.
Content idea: do 100 battles with 1 team and mark down how many of what poke you get matched against then switch the team do another 100 battles and note what leads and pokemon teams you run into
You dont even need to do that. Just pick 3 fairy type charm users and have 20-30 battles. If there is an algorithm, you will be getting countered with poisoin or steel types every game
Gbl has always had an algorithm, and I'm glad you're bringing this to light. My friends thought I was crazy and I feel validated now. Pvp has been broken for a long time, and it has been needing a rework, but Niantic doesn't care, unfortunately. Every time you switch up your team, it pairs you against the perfect counters, and like you said, the game will bring you down when you find yourself in a positive Streak. I have also had several situations where to break a losing Streak I get matched with someone who has a team of pokemon with laughable pokemon like cp
No, not always. I was battling the very first hours of GBL, it was ultra League. There was indeed random matchmaking at that point. I was trashing everything with Togekiss and Giratina. Met so many random pokes.
Poke, i played 2 sets and lead Walrein for the entire time. i lost lead 7 times with obstagoon being the most common. the moment i switched lead to Escav, i was met with a charizard the very next game
At the beginning I was one of those a lil reluctant on believing but now I’m a 100% convinced…. Not a coincidence that on all the seasons of GBL my winning percentage is always around 52%-58%. Last battles I was using a ABB team with a flyer in the front and two metal in the back… guess who was always in the back?!? SWAMPERT…. 5 fights and always swampert in the back… coincidence??? Of course NOT!!!!
Honestly I don't give a damn about all this algorithm or no algorithm thing, I always thought there was an algorithm, but I don't care that much, honestly the real shit is that after all this years they haven't nerfed swampert yet, it has been omnipresent and op in 2 leagues (being meta centric in ul) since forever, they are so dumb that they even released him shadow, (and honestly if they remove all this shadow Pokémon from pvp I will just be happy, just useless trash, they add nothing to the game if not just more broken shit, not even Canon...) and now after mega evolution in master it will be broken as well with his mega... Still no nerf seems to be coming... Seriously that's real garbage, that shit has no neutral matchups... It's op on everything which doesn't have a grass move and even against grass if it has shield advantage can be very dangerous just by spamming hidrocannon...
I mean swampert is a pretty good closer or even lead. I used to keep it in the back of my teams and ive seen it in the back of a whole bunch of teams too so idk if I would call it algorithm
@@Tarantinych Yeah indeed, you're supposed to lure out the Swampert by swapping to one of the steels, then take it out with your lead and now the other steel is free to sweep endgame
I have Pidgeot in front, Diggersby middle, Swampert in the back. I shit you not, I literally opened to a Noctowl 9 matches in a row. No algorithm though 🤫
Every time I put my alolan sandslash on my team I got incineroar, fire spin charizard and tons of counter users. But when I switched it I never saw any of those so I feel ya and the algorithm is real no matter what haters say
You are, I get the same stuff happening to me too. Bots are all over the place. I get to L20 and stop as it’s too frustrating for me to try to league up. It’s not worth risking my mental health for N’s sh*t.
The algorithm is absolutely real. Last season I was running in the Master League, started running into a lot of dragon leads, so I swapped my lead to Florges. Literally my first battle I was met with a Metagross league. Guess how many times I encountered that in the lead before? Never. Switched my lead and guess what happened? Never saw Metagross in the lead again. Wouldn’t surprise me if they also rig your shiny rates and egg spawns based on whether or not you open tickets and call them out on stuff.
I feel liberated. I'm not crazy. This shit is bananas. Every fight. No matter what team I choose. I get hard countered hard! It's so ridiculous. I even pick odd pokemon no one uses the. Get matched up against an odd pokemon no one uses that's my exact counter. I've had fights getting stomped by mostly just one pokemon and I do my best to never pick pokemon of the same or similar elements so I don't have too much weakness. It doesn't matter. I have 1300 wins in two leagues but now can't win a fight to save my life. Over the last 3 days I maybe won 7 fights. Its ridiculous
Just wanna thank you poke for being the voice vs this stupid algorithm in the GBL. I thought I was the only one but I feel much better for real. Always appreciate you keepin it a buck
EASY FIX: ADD TEAM PREVIEW. This an issue in the MSG, that somehow got fixed once they added Team Preview. for the people who may not know how it work. You pick 6 pokes, your opponent is able to view them all, but won't see which 3 you picked.
This is like reading my mind, right after I changed the team because I see a lead in 9/10 battles and then never see it again with the new team... I would even argue this is also valid for switch and closer, as when I see swamperts all along as closer and I get some swampert counter in the back, guess what happens... and yes this still could be meta changes within hours on a day, but for some reason this happens a lot when you start changing your team...
Thank you for this. All the gaslighting online from people shilling Pokemon and their PVP drives me nuts. "You're just looking for patterns." Yeah and we found one.
This is why I find I win a lot more focusing on not winning lead. Especially in open leagues, I'd say I lose well over half of the leads in my daily sets to straight up hard counters. I tend to build my entire team around my backline now, especially my switch, my lead is usually just a bait. Btw I run air slash tropius lead in sunshine cup and saw exclusively vigoroth leads today, like literally 4/5 games each set no exaggeration lol. Specialty cups are strangely way less mean to me.
Many thanks! Great that you bring this up which explains a lot for me. I will restrict my battling to save time and hope for a positive change! We need a totally different algorithm. The situation now is annoying. Keep going! Great to see you face too!
BRUHHHHH ! I noticed this ! I’d go crazy one day (20-5) (15-10) and the next day I would barely get 8. It consistently happens to me have me raging because my team was running a Boston the day before
Your not wrong there is definitely an algorithm that changes the teams you see based on the alignment and team you choose, if you change one Pokémon you will see completely different teams. It’s definitely not random and I always know after I have a great set like 5-0 that I’ll probably get hard countered the entire next set. Because of this you have to always win lead on the swap or it’s over but often you can’t even win swap because the algorithm counters you so hard. If you play every day it’s impossible not to notice this. Like how many times do you see a video and someone is like I saw this lead all day and it’s completely different from what you saw that day… it’s because the algorithm matched them that way and your team accordingly. It’s like so obvious. I wish it were random it would be so much better
I specifically ran Shadow Kanto Ninetales with Ember yesterday in Open Ultra because I saw so many Cobalion and Virizion. I didn't see a single Cobalion or Virizion in 25 battles, but saw even more of Swampert than usual.
Been in agreement with you on the algorithm for a long time now. The thing I've been noticing is the energy management is off. I know my counts with fast moves and charge moves, I've been counting and noticed charge moves coming thru faster than normal and i have no lag or sputter on my game at all
Absolutely love this style of video showing you. I’ve always leaned more to content creators that show face. Not saying that your content is bad at all. I appreciate your hard work and honesty. Keep up the great work.
I have noticed this for a while. Im doing really, really well one day, then the next i can barely even get 2 wins in a set. Either because of lag or shield glitches. Yesterday i encountered a glitch where when I clicked, I would not do fast moves, it was so annoying because it sold like 10 of my matches where i probably would have won. And then theres other matches where I face salamences (shadow and normal) on every team and cant beat them cuz of how fast they get to hydro cannon AND im lagging. Its so frustrating man. Using lantern, skeledirge, and trevenant. And if i dont see a salamence on the other team, they at least have a skeledirge, a lantern, or something else to counter at least 2 of my pokemon
Just went on a 8-2. Guess what happened the next 10 battles? They had me hard counterd on their lead and safe switch EVERY GAME. Coincidence? I think not
Totally agree. The algorithm makes for some of the most annoying sets ever. I build teams I actually enjoy playing and try to run some spice / my fave mons but the amount of times I get utterly screwed over a lot of the time it's not even fun. In the sunshine cup, I finally settled on running a counter, blaze kick, stone edge Blaziken, standard DT psych fangs, eq Steelix and a gust Pidgeot... things went super well for a few sets, even though my Blaze led into Swampert/Noctowl about 75% of the time I got a few (I think 3) 4-1 sets in a row and did really well gaining a few hundred elo... I was stoked because I'd been getting hard countered over and over struggling to land matches I had a chance to win at all and I finally got a team together that was consistent, and played just right I could turn around bad situations and pull it off. This morning, I woke up, same team, same order and I got double hard countered nearly every time... No matter who I put in front, how I arranged it, or whether I decided to switch, stay etc. Ran out of my daily battles with my best set being 1-4 at the same freaking rank I started at last night. Is it too much to ask that our RANDOM battles be randomized? I didn't run into anyone else with my team comp so it's not like it was dominating the meta and people adjusted for it, I've only seen 1 other Steelix the entire cup. Needless to say it felt like a waste of time today and left me in a bad mood. it's funny too because they're probably thinking "this will make it fair" but rather than having your luck spread out like it should be they let you think you are doing really well and then crush your hopes with brutal efficiency. Lame.
Even if I run a straight A team I still get hard-countered for at least 50% of matches. At the very least I'm guaranteed to lose lead no matter which Pokemon I start with. Can only take so much of it. There are some matches where I'll lose to a player who times a move catch well or baits well or doesn't fall for a bait which I can appreciate, but it's maybe 1 out of 10 losses. The other 9 are complete BS. As a chess player I like to learn from losing. Especially in chess, if you lose, it is absolutely your fault. Simply not the case with Pogo PVP or most Pokemon games with some sort of PVP element. I don't understand why Pokemon games have to be so anti-competitive.
I really wish we could see our total W/L records for each season we play cuz I definitely went from thousands of matches played to maybe a few hundred each season. And If you notice that it takes longer to find matches after consecutive wins…. Get ready for the extreme hard counters 😅
We can only look at this empirically, but if enough people are experiencing the same phenomenon independently, then is it fair to say there's a preponderance of this more than likely being true? My personal opinion is that this is a curated matching system designed to get people to chase more xl mons and spend more time in the game, ultimately providing more real world data they can sell; toss in money spent on in game currency for star dust, etc. Here's some observations I've made in thousands of battles. Take these with a grain of salt, as humans we're biased and I did not specifically record data. That being said, a preponderance of empirical data across multiple cases reported independently is still worth noting, just adding my 2 cents: 1) I literally almost never wait more than 5-8 seconds for a battle regardless of time of day. Not exactly saying this is fishy, but in the heyday of League of Legends, you'd often wait minutes for games to fill depending on time of day and the game was insanely popular. Obviously different in terms of time frame for a single match, and only needing 1 person, but in LoL you weren't gated by the number of games you could play in a day. This was also played competitively and in pro eSports, far more popular pvp. This doesn't prove there are actually bots, but it's worth noting if others experience a few second wait time in an overwhelming numbers of cases. Seems like something no one is talking about. 2) I have multiple occasions of outright losing lead 7+ times in a row. If this was purely random, then I'd expect to have multiple cases of 7+ lead wins in a row, I'd expect to have multiple occasions of 7+ pushes in a row. The only consistency I see is lead losses in a row. 3) If I have a 4 game winning streak, there is nearly always a check mate counter in slot 5. I have won 5 games in a row plenty of times, but 4-1's seem to come at a higher rate when I'm on a 4 game winning streak. 4) If I have good sets the day before, the next day is usually extremely difficult in terms of lead loss and swap counters. Waiting 8-10 hours to play additional sets in the day doesn't seem to change this. If meta is shifting normally and randomly, you'd think you'd experience a different outcome 2/3rds of the time as the probability would suggest. 5) I haven't played nearly as many games with the premium battle pass, but do feel I fair better when I use that. This would be an easy way to help curate a better winning percentage long term. People would notice this enough to feel that playing the paid lane is worth their time if they sense or have actually experienced better outcomes. But this also leads me back to point 1. Since there are 2 separate battle matching systems, why does it always only take 5-8 seconds to get paired? At the end of the day it's just a game. But what I think bothers me in a way is the fact that the game relies on the near miss principle knowing that there are going to be certain personality types that are drawn to that and will obsess over it. It's the reason casinos are still so popular. Despite knowing you will never have odds in your favor, the belief you can over come that with good fortune or outright skill keeps people playing and on average losing. All outliers do is get used to draw in more average players to lose. I can't say for sure they favor youtubers or content creators in matching, but if I were in their shoes that's exactly what I'd do as a private unregulated business. One more note. A way to perhaps test this would be to wait until you are in full swing of a season. If your win percentage is at ~52%, then lose games until it is at ~40%. Then specifically record the sets after that, and measure winning percentage over the number of games it takes to get back to ~50-52%. If its an outlandish percentage, say 60% plus, then to me that would give the strongest indication of curation.
I'm not playing GBL for a long time, but the algorithm is nothing new to me. I remember that as long as I was keeping my team the same, I used to getting similar matchups or at least leads. Everytime I modified my team there was a drastic change in matchups. Sometimes you are waiting for a long time to get a matchup or "there are no available players". Change your lead and guess what, you suddenly don't have to wait anymore.
@@Catrambi I'm not a pro but I feel ok with my performance so far, 7 times legend and 1 time on the first page of leaderboards. I just hate the matchmaking system
Doing battles is 100% my least favorite part of PoGo. I actually hate it. Watching this explains exactly why. It does the same thing to me. I couldn't figure out why but now I know. I'm level 43 which is nothing but battles. I'll just grind through it because I know many have gotten through it. Thanks dude!
I got to Legend for the 2nd time in my Career in 950 matches. I had 520 Wins and 430 Losses which is about a 54.7% Win Rate. Part of the reason I was able to get to Legend was because I watch every Content Creator’s Video that pops up on my FYP. Seeing how y’all compose teams together helped me figure out picking my Own Team. Honestly, it was easier getting to Legend the 2nd Time than the 1st Time; however, I totally understand because I improve everyday. I know I’m not perfect, but I feel proud of myself. I didn’t have anyone coaching me throughout my GBL Matches and my hard work paid off. I also figured out some Team Compositions for various leagues that had above a 70% win rate. I also don’t use Pokémon to be “spicy”, I always try my hardest to win like Ash Ketchum. You just have to believe in yourself. Last Season was the first time I ever got to Legend. The fact that it took me over 10 Seasons to get to Legend 1 time is something I will never forget no matter how many times I get to Legend because I wasn’t born Perfect, nor am I Perfect; however, I have grown so much on my Journey and getting to Legend twice proves it. I never gave up just like Ash Ketchum, I am a Legend 💖 Honestly, now I want to compete in the Global Competition. It would be tough, but I would have a good time. Becoming the Best in the World would be the Journey of a Lifetime, the only thing holding me back is that I wouldn’t have the Dogs in my Family with me. They are my 2 Real “Partner Pokémon”. I want them to be with me if I make it to the Finals of the Worlds Competition. If we win, I would use my Moment in the Spotlight to share the Gratitude I have for the 2 Dogs in my Family. They’re the 1st 2 Puppies I raised on my Own and they have been with me every step of my Journey, especially when I made it to Legend for the 1st Time. Winning the Worlds Finals with the Dogs in my Family would be a Dream come true, the other problem is that my Dog Rocky is turning 9 this year and I’m too poor to travel to Worlds. I’m also nervous that I’m not good enough to make it to the Finals. I don’t have much time to make my Dream come true.
This is why I dont battle as much now. I see ppl saying its no algorithm but its always been evident to me. The counters adjust to your lineup too much. One thing I did start doing to combat this though was changing my movesets on some mon.
If you wanted to see noctowl again, switch to the first team :D I used to drop 15-20 games in row to drop some magic score so i could get better than 0/1/2 wins in set. About wording of "There is no algorithm .." it can be selected by types or sometimes it seems like types vs. opposing movesets
Bruh, In the Great League Remix, I brought a: - Galarian Weezing - Slurpuff - shadow Quagsire in that order. My opponent pulls out a: - Perrserker - Magneton - Roserade My opponent still got destroyed though, didn't even get to see my Slurpuff. Point is though, there is a fishy algorithm for sure.
It's freakin happens the same to me as well. I stopped even picking teams.. I have deleted all my teams and just use what auto populates and go in a wings and a prayer 😂🤣😂
I remember when I first started getting into GBL about 6 months ago, I sensed it was doing this after just getting wrecked suddenly. I agree, I just want random battles and just see how I'll do. It's very frustrating that you're FORCED into loses and no one can claim they have legit wins either. It is refreshing to see that I am not the only one experiencing this, but definitely not fun at all.
So sad 😞. I’m a new player and I used hundreds of thousands of stardust to level up the good Pokémon I researched for Sunshine cup for nothing. I noticed this happening to me too. I could have used the Stardust to level my gyming mons. What’s the point of PVP if the algorithm is going to punish you for doing well?
I ran Trev, zard and talon after nearly a month and the very first match I get triple anti fire/flying. I haven't seen that team in almost a month too. Somehow the second I pick the team the triple anti fire flying team shows up.
I’ve played around 900 battles this season and this is 100% true. I can go on and win 4/5 games for the first 2 sets then go on a losing streak winning 2/5 because every opponent after that has Pokémon that hard counter mine.
From the looks of your match-ups, a lot of the opponents seem to be favouring competitive Pokemon; I've followed the Pokemon Go Championships since they started last year (specifically the EU streams), and even as we approach the end of season 2 Noctowl is still on almost every team. Speaking of the PGC, Junior World Champion, MEWeedle defeated his senior counterpert, DancingRob, during their show match at this year's EUIC; it was a delight to see.
I'm going to be honest, I gave up trying to rank up a long time ago. I worked hard to learn pvp and trying climb the ranks. But I realize that the algorithm is extremely manipulated. My solution was to STOP spending my money and play as spicy as possible. Trust me everyone it feels so good to beat the algorithm with non meta and not giving them a single dime. Eventually Niantic is going realize what I'm doing and they are going to make it impossible for me to even win that way and when that happens I'll delete the game.
Poke, thank you for posting These videos my man. I literally just got done playing 3 sets so far today. First set went pretty well.. 4-1 and honestly the one loss was my fault but good to decent leads, and it seemed as if the opponents I was playing against had the algorithm against them.. then the next two sets… 0-5 and 1-4 and seriously out of the 10 games, I bet 8 of them were lead losses to then my safe swap and hard counter, every Got Damn time. And I was even flipping back and forth between ultra and sunshine cup and switching up teams if I loss back to back… so wrong. At this point these tools only care about the profit they continue to earn through their app, they thought this shit would die off like most phone games usually do year or two in (other then some of the OGs) and they were wrong. So now they are trying to find a way to drive the people out. I’m gonna continue to watch and support your videos my man, plus you and I stay in cloud 9, but I can’t play this pvp bull shit anymore. I’m gonna take my dogs for walks and still open it up and look for shinies and what not, but until they fix their rigged ass battle system, im done. Just an absolute atrocity. Seems as if children are running the show at Niantic. Poke, thanks for always being a real g man.
ranking up is impossible so I've given up and I just play with random pokemon for fun while im on the toilet. my battles aren't as exciting but ak inspired me to share some of my toilet sessions on my channel haha.
You know, I always had the feeling that something weird was going on. Call it superstition but I always change my team after a battle, I feel like I get more wins that way, it's like whenever I win with a team I get hard-countered the next, like, if I go with Talonflame the enemt will 100% have a Bastiodon on the next matches. It's been working so far, even with off-meta teams, shuffling the team seems to reduce the chances of getting a bad match
Enjoy these style of video. The Noctowl leads were ridiculous. I have also noticed this. I avoid the special cups but this happens in UL as well. The mirror matchups happen to me with Cobalion and Cresselia.
I swear I have experienced this exact thing. Tons of one pokemon on lead or in the team, countering my current team handily - so then I change up to counter the most common thing I am seeing and IT DISAPPEARS. Don't see another one for match after match after match. Someone said that Niantic wanted to get GBL classified as a "sport" so there would be no way they could rig it like this to make it tougher for people to win and climb - but so often I see this same thing. But it would definitely benefit them in terms of making people believe they just need to power their pokemon up more, or catch the most powerful legendary and get all the candies they can - paying for stuff (raid passes, bag and item space, and even balls) to do all of that. And when you stop to think about it, they already have that capability in choosing teams for you for raids. Not that that is perfect by any means, but they obviously have a way they can throw a team or pokemon to a function that returns its strengths or weaknesses. All they would have to do is pass 3 different in-queue people versus your team, see which one breaks you best and throw that at you. I don't necessarily think that the people at the top are "hand-picked" by Niantic - I just think they are the ones with the strategies and handle on game theory that lets them overcome the BS.
I have been stuck in rank 20 around 1600-1700 and I can’t seem to get out 😢I agree one day I gain like 100 elo and super happy then the next I just lose it
@Jacques de Gatineau Hes a high rank pvper. Only pokemon go simps ignore the obvious. AK has proven time and time again about the rigged battle league and all you and the reddit simps just reply with "get gud" comments. If you dont have proof like AK does, then what you say is nil.
@Jacques de Gatineau move counting helps, but even pro players lose count at times and as you rank up past veteran, everyone is counting moves so it nullifies and it becomes crazy mind games. It then narrows down to the lead that you get and pro players almost certainly will never throw away good leads. You could be count Dracula, when you hit higher ranks your elo is almost certainly determined by your leads, if you manage to switch a few, assuming your opponents are of good enough skill level there comes a point where you run out of options.. escaping is next to impossible
I'm a new subscriber. I love that you call it how it is. No matter what I wall at ACE. I always say it's an algorithm. Literally won 5 of 25 today. Absolutely ridiculous.
It it really is random then here is what they can do. 1. Get matched up first 2. You have 7 seconds to pick your team from the list of teams you have already preselected. You are not allowed to swap out Pokémon’s. 3. Match starts
I haven't seen people talk about this type of hard countering, but I've noticed that the buff and debuff rates for moves I used are skewed.. if you don't believe ne, I used to screen record so I have receipts. I remember using crunch 16 times before getting a debuff on the opponent while when crunch is used on me its a 1/2 or 2/3 chance the opponent gets a debuff, which is real sus.. I've done this many times and shown other people live.. noticed also when using night slash haxorus for 5 days in the ML Premier, only got the buff twice while people using ancient power and night slash got it 1/6 or back to back, which i think is closer in line to normal.. this skewing of the odds wasn't always so drastic on my account.. I will not even talk about my hard countering, wouldn't know where to stop
Hey, love the "news man" style - Allow me to give the silliest of suggestions - when featuring your face and real world backgrounds, flip your picture around. Look at the Poke AK art work you got in the background, near the light: I'm sure in person, it reads PokeAK , left to right, where in the video, its mirrored and backwards. Same with the UA-cam placard - do your background justice so it shows the way its intended to look at - just a suggestion, thanks for making your videos, and the alforithm keeps me right at 50% too. You the man.
At least you get to Veteran... I barely made it to Ace twice before the "algorithm" shuts me down. I've put together every team imaginable... I get hard countered as soon as hit any kind of win streak... I am forever stuck in the 20 rank 😂😭
great video bro. i have stopped doing gbl but i have 10.585 battles and a 50% win ratio. i do remember every time i would swap the teams i would see different hard counters against me
The algorithms has ALWAYS been here, you got so much hate at the beginning but content creators are literally hard riding niantic to get a measly paycheck at this point 😂 thank you for keeping it real
It gets irritating winning most of your battles and getting good elo gains from winning at least 11/15 on your first 3 sets just to get demolished on the last 2 sets and losing everything you just had gained. Its either that or finishing the last 2-3 sets strong or having a good day of all positive sets just to get wiped out the next day. You can literally win more battles on the season than other players who've gotten to legend and never get there, even if you're floating between 2700 and 2999 for weeks.
Lol you were climbing too fast, the system sees that and forces more unfavorable teams against you. These systems exist as artificial limiters to keep the average win rate within 50%, if we all won then there wouldn’t be much incentive to continue playing.
It's always validating to see these videos. Whenever I would post about "why am I always getting hard countered" I would just be met with yet gud, l2catch moves, all that bullshit, but it's like... If they always have a rock to your scissors there is no amount of skill on this planet that would make you win. I don't care how meta your moves or IV's are. My big take home from all of this is that A) ivs literally don't matter. If you're going to win you're going to win. Sure maybe every once in a blue moon your iv will clench you the win if you do some genius baits, swaps, and they make a massive mistake, but that's a whole lot to go right/wrong for a fringe case scenario and LOOOTTTTTTSSSSS of grinding to get those iv. B) it makes me wonder if some of these opponents are bots and not players. That's entirely possible and not out of the realm of possible. C) my win rate in open master is pretty high (60ish) because Niantic is literally rewarding me for grinding my tits off and spending a boatload of money to max out these legendaries. The lower leagues are just feeders in to the open masters to get your hooked and want you to spend money on leveling up big Bois for masters.
i understand the complaints but it's not uncommon for esports games to balance teams in a way that both teams have about a 50% chance of winning the game. it's done to prevent 90% winrates and it's likely what is done at higher levels of pvp in POGO.
Wow this is incredibly true. For the last couple weeks, every single day I either gain 150+ elo or lose 150+ elo. I had a day earlier this week where I went 5-0 and 4-1 every set and gained around 250 elo, really thought I was going to hit veteran this season finally. Next day it was all 0-5 and 1-4’s. Hard counter every single game, I’d even change my teams up completely and get hard countered in those matchups.
I just finished the video and wanted to add on to a point you made at the end. Niantic most certainly has 100% control over every individual account. Just like any other company that you have to create an account with and agree to TOS. They can set restrictions, take away restrictions, delete accounts, add items or delete items, anything they want to do. And many game studios are using what’s called an “emotional matchmaking” system where they keep you perpetually struggling and wanting to come back to reach your goal. It guarantees maximum playtime / expenditure in the long run. It’s probably the most predatory practice any game developer has ever come up with, especially combined with microtransactions.
By the way Poke, love the longer videos and the talks you’ve been giving with the facecam. Keep killing it man, I don’t play nearly as much since the remote raid nerf but I still watch your content to keep up to date and the hilarious entertainment 😂
Absolutely noticed this. I was fighting Trevenant basically in every battle in the Ultra League. Once I added a dark type Pokémon into my team magically nobody used Trevenant anymore. It‘s so annoying.
Dude thank you so much for this revelation. AAAAUGH this insight is so frustrating. Really takes the incentive out of playing competitively or playing at all when the chips are stacked against us like this. I was wondering why I dominate until I get to higher rank echelons. At least this confirms that I'm not going insane lol. Thank you!
If you pay attention to the avatars or “trainers” they’re are multiple of them with the same exact outfit, that are base items from the shop seems like I’m fighting bots half the time . Algorithm sucks I agree
I always knew that something was happening at the selection of players I would fight against at, sometimes it was so blatantly obvious that it really made me stop playing GBL. The moment I would lead with a grass type for example, it would only throw at me Talonflame, but the moment I would change the lead to Swampert, I would encounter only grass type in my opponent lead. I've seen it multiple times and tried multiple times to switch my leads that I am absolutely positive about something shady happening.
I'm a newer player and not a go-hard by any means but noticed this same exact thing happening to me especially as I started to climb the ranks. Started playing a year ago and it didn't seem as bad but immediately, the next seasons were far worse. That and the bugged games, weak connections with full bars of data, etc., etc., etc., and it's just enough BS. Also, the boxes in the store that are tailored to the amount of coins you have are absolute bloodthirsty capitalist nonsense. I have unspent coins and have overpriced crap boxes. My gf has no coins so they bait her with decent boxes trying to get her to lay out cash to buy coins to get those better boxes. I'm not coming off these coins for overpriced crap. And I am not even going to touch remote passes... the only reason I started playing was to support my mother who lives 1100 miles away and it was something we could do for fun together from afar. Niantic leadership is a disappointment.
I don´t like battle leauge so much they could start with small things-like there could be the number of battles remaining on the corner, there could be somewhere a chart saying what type is effective against what (kids play this game and it would help them-when I babysit I see how confused they are) and after these they could make it we would just battle against random players (this can´t be difficult to change it, right?)
The algorithm is just like you lay it out. It is basically 1) Hard counter type 2) Hard counter moves 3) Getting everyone towards 50% 4) The more wins in a row - the harder they will revert you back towards 50% with awful matchups - and in some instances with impossible to win matches. But the opposite is also true. If you loose many in a row the opposite will happen. Therefore they should have a no-algorithm alternative for free and fun battles without ranking.
Bro. You are speaking my language. Great content good sir. I feel like tanking is the most effective way to farm dust in GBL because you are always gonna come back to around 50% wins anyway (which is a dog move but the game is utter pig vomit like that).
I'll add that I've also seen proof of bots. And I've tried this over several seasons to be sure. If you tank your ELO low enough, it will literally set you up against a bot team that you will always win against. Because the algo has to get you back up tp ~50%. You can do this to. Start tanking matches with a CP 10 team. We all know as soon as you start a match, both you and your opponent start tapping. So it's odd if you don't see fast moves coming right away. So maybe you think the other guy is tanking too. But you'll find when you do this, the match will start and if you do nothing, your opponent will also do nothing. The clock will just tick away. Then, if YOU tap a fast move. YOU die. You saw with your own eyes they NEVER threw a move, and yet your mon goes down. So your next mon comes up. Nothing is happening. YOU tap. YOU go down. So how is that possible? If you are playing against ANY person EVER it NEVER happens that way. But if you're playing a "random" "opponent" this "bug" just happens? And ONLY when you're falling below 50%. Sorry folks, there is VERY MUCH an algo to keep you in check. And it's only applied to MAJORITY of accounts. There is too much data PROVING otherwise. Proof of bots. Sudden shifts in teams based EXACTLY on when you change teams up. And the fact that like 90% of players are ALL 50% good. Take a stats class at college, you'll find that statistically impossible. The data that should show a bell curve shows a damn box. It's all a lie so you that you don't lose so much you quit altogether. And you don't win so much that you keep trying. You're an addicted rat built to keep pushing that button. All so that you keep spending money and they can charge big bucks and get advertisers for tournaments. Open your eyes. It's all right there. You think starbucks stops and dunkin donuts flying item boxes and t-shirt sales are all coming to you free of charge?
last time ultra league was here, i had Rayquaza, Cressalia and Cobalion and actually did very well. but this time i'm literally seeing charm users nonstop with Rayquaza. and if i switch into like a steel as a lead, i just run into stuff like Virizion which Rayquaza coincidentally hard walls
I did the same, Even uses a grass type in the lead as bait! I guess Alolan Sandslash took that personally!
Yeah but you can almost every time say you have to shield the attacks from the oponent mew 😂
Why didnt they just say " there is no algorithm "... I wonder why😂
Because there is an algorithm and the didn't want so admit it. Lying scum.
They
Niantic: "That's a nice win streak you got there. Would be a shame if something were to happen to it."
Is ThAt A jOjO rEfErEnCe
🤣🤣
The game should match players first and then let them select their teams. Will battles take more time? Yes, but at least it will feel fair.
Great idea
It’s all by design. There’s a reason both players select their team before going in
It will make PVP much more fun
This is a perfect idea. I do still like being paired up with players closely ranked though.
Content idea: do 100 battles with 1 team and mark down how many of what poke you get matched against then switch the team do another 100 battles and note what leads and pokemon teams you run into
might just have to do this for research myself
Maybe 50/50 so he can get it within a week
Hahaha yeah do that yourself 🤣 100 battles you say that like it’s a walk in the park
You dont even need to do that. Just pick 3 fairy type charm users and have 20-30 battles. If there is an algorithm, you will be getting countered with poisoin or steel types every game
I’ve played thousands of games. There is obviously an algorithm. There is no question about it
Gbl has always had an algorithm, and I'm glad you're bringing this to light.
It's not a hard counter every time. Just balanced enough so you can feel like you have advantage occasionally before they keep you down.
It’s no problem for ABB team. Maybe you just don’t know how to play it?
@@Tarantinych Yeah indeed, you're supposed to lure out the Swampert by swapping to one of the steels, then take it out with your lead and now the other steel is free to sweep endgame
@@pippopino6948 talonflame brave bird nearly kills it.
I have Pidgeot in front, Diggersby middle, Swampert in the back. I shit you not, I literally opened to a Noctowl 9 matches in a row. No algorithm though 🤫
I used a florges and guess who is encountering metagross in every match
The point is not Noctowl, the point is you're getting hard countered just to make sure your win % is always within 50% 😂
Every time I put my alolan sandslash on my team I got incineroar, fire spin charizard and tons of counter users. But when I switched it I never saw any of those so I feel ya and the algorithm is real no matter what haters say
Definitely noticed this. It’s really obvious when I forfeit matches. Every lead is a counter.
Hate that shit man and a lot of times i feel like I’m facing a computer that knows what I’m about to throw! 😡
I mentioned this on one of your recent videos, and the Niantic Employees in disguise immediately started trolling me over it lol.
Dude, do you ever see the three shield battles? I’ve run into it numerous times, always when I’m climbing!!
EASY FIX:
ADD TEAM PREVIEW.
Hahah here from the interview reaction. I casually do pvp and even I know damn well theirs a algorithm 😂
You just can’t deny it period
Many thanks! Great that you bring this up which explains a lot for me. I will restrict my battling to save time and hope for a positive change! We need a totally different algorithm. The situation now is annoying. Keep going! Great to see you face too!
Felt like it was happening and stopped battling because id rather be working out and playing more with my kids
I know my counts with fast moves and charge moves, I've been counting and noticed charge moves coming thru faster than normal and i have no lag or sputter on my game at all
Yes my son is also couldn't and complaining every day that this happens where it's impossible that his opponent reached attacks
@@1moreShiny1 So true. 8 fast moves does NOT equal a back to back hydro cannon and earthquake. But that happened to me. I was pissed.
Same
Absolutely love this style of video showing you.
That being said, a preponderance of empirical data across multiple cases reported independently is still worth noting, just adding my 2 cents:
1) I literally almost never wait more than 5-8 seconds for a battle regardless of time of day.
Those videos where you expose the algorithm are the ones I like the most
@@Catrambi I'm not a pro but I feel ok with my performance so far, 7 times legend and 1 time on the first page of leaderboards.

Just battle a friends account in whatever league you need. That’s what I did. Have them pick the lowest cp and you’ll be done in 20 min
I never gave up just like Ash Ketchum, I am a Legend 💖
Honestly, now I want to compete in the Global Competition.
I thought it was just because I sucked. But come to find out that the 5 win streak being broken with 5 loss streak is an algorithm issue.
Man I thought I was the only one that notice this algorithm
This is 100% my experience. I have played enough GBL to see this algorithm as clear as day.
This is why I dont battle as much now. I see ppl saying its no algorithm but its always been evident to me. The counters adjust to your lineup too much. One thing I did start doing to combat this though was changing my movesets on some mon.
This kind of video format is cool, we get to see Poke's reaction while doing the commentary. I love it!
If you wanted to see noctowl again, switch to the first team :D I used to drop 15-20 games in row to drop some magic score so i could get better than 0/1/2 wins in set. About wording of "There is no algorithm .." it can be selected by types or sometimes it seems like types vs. opposing movesets
this type of match making is not fun or natural. why does there have to be a algorithm just let me battle

My opponent still got destroyed though, didn't even get to see my Slurpuff. Point is though, there is a fishy algorithm for sure.
It's freakin happens the same to me as well. I stopped even picking teams.. I have deleted all my teams and just use what auto populates and go in a wings and a prayer 😂🤣😂
Ha ha how does it work lol I did that last year, autopic but swap out one pokemon
you should make a video on if you get better matchups after buying items
On an 8 win streak earlier, went into the 9th error occured, then hard countered for the next 3 😂
Weird, I won 104 battles in a row and I was still getting favorable leads after 80+ wins in a row.
@@Jason2890 your a wizard harry
Thank you for telling the truth about this game bro, this happens to me every single time.
Game says “oh you like to win?”
they should just match us out then after an opponent found, then they lets us choose pokemon to use.
Poke, thanks for always being a real g man.
ranking up is impossible so I've given up and I just play with random pokemon for fun while im on the toilet. my battles aren't as exciting but ak inspired me to share some of my toilet sessions on my channel haha.
henry is one of those on easy mode.
I have 14,453 battles total in my account. My win percentage is 50.3%. RIGGED! F this game
I swear the algorithm is so bad I literally call every lead, and swap… yes I use different teams, and strategies but the algorithm is inevitable
I have been stuck in rank 20 around 1600-1700 and I can’t seem to get out 😢I agree one day I gain like 100 elo and super happy then the next I just lose it
You have to improve your game. AK complains a lot, but he's not doing the move counting as pro players do.
1. Get matched up first
I am forever stuck in the 20 rank 😂😭
there's also a glitch still where I can't see the other players pokemon, really frustrating
Yes happens to me a lot
great video bro. i have stopped doing gbl but i have 10.585 battles and a 50% win ratio. i do remember every time i would swap the teams i would see different hard counters against me
The algorithms has ALWAYS been here, you got so much hate at the beginning but content creators are literally hard riding niantic to get a measly paycheck at this point 😂 thank you for keeping it real
100% an algorithm bro, appreciate you for always speaking up
It gets irritating winning most of your battles and getting good elo gains from winning at least 11/15 on your first 3 sets just to get demolished on the last 2 sets and losing everything you just had gained. Its either that or finishing the last 2-3 sets strong or having a good day of all positive sets just to get wiped out the next day.
You can literally win more battles on the season than other players who've gotten to legend and never get there, even if you're floating between 2700 and 2999 for weeks.
Agreed, just got to 2,850. Whas doing so good, and feeling the fibe. Next thing you know got a 0-5, 1-4 and 2-3. Got to love it😂
Lol you were climbing too fast, the system sees that and forces more unfavorable teams against you. These systems exist as artificial limiters to keep the average win rate within 50%, if we all won then there wouldn’t be much incentive to continue playing.
Okay so if we have figured out what they are basing it off of.. can we use that knowledge to counter it?
It‘s so annoying.
let me guess, after the dark type, hitmonchan, granbulls and azumarills? 💀
I always thought it was just me. I never once hit Legend.
Thank you!
So you think it’s AI we are battling? Sometimes I’ve noticed the opponent stops attacking when you stop.
Same happened to me! I battled a bunch of noctowls, got tired of it, changed my lineup and never got a noctowl for the next ten games.
I don´t like battle leauge so much
they could start with small things-like there could be the number of battles remaining on the corner, there could be somewhere a chart saying what type is effective against what (kids play this game and it would help them-when I babysit I see how confused they are) and after these they could make it we would just battle against random players (this can´t be difficult to change it, right?)
I do believe this. This season felt like the hardest. For half a min i hit 2500. Than all of the sudden i can't do anything right.
Funny fact. I run owl lead, Vigo, gligar. 25 battles and I get pidgey lead 90% of the time. BTW Athena is all over the sofa behind you lol
I like this format, brings you much closer to everyone, I think you should keep on bringing more os these, games with cam and commentary. 10/10
last time ultra league was here, i had Rayquaza, Cressalia and Cobalion and actually did very well. but this time i'm literally seeing charm users nonstop with Rayquaza. and if i switch into like a steel as a lead, i just run into stuff like Virizion which Rayquaza coincidentally hard walls
