    Thank you for the review Matt was really looking forward hearing your thoughts! My only issue is that you didn't wear Finnish hockey cap 😸 I'm gonna start hunting bottle for myself now! Cheers

      Next time I'll throw on a SUOMI hockey cap haha! I may have some more thoughts coming soon on two more GlenAllachie single casks, a PX Sherry and a Ruby Port Cask. Good luck on your Single Cask hunt! Hope this review helped. And thanks as always for the support and for watching. Cheers eh! 🥃

    Solid review. Good that this single cask was excellent!

      Thanks Jon! I seem to remember James leaving you a bit of a GlenAllachie PX Puncheon single cask. I think I remember you liking it. Seems to confirm what we seem to know, which is that Billy Walker works well with Sherry casks. Cheers Neighbour! 🥃

    Brilliant Matt thanks for the honest review! You're absolutely spot on. Sometimes the single casks are absolutely amazing but more often than not I do find the standard expressions to perform better, especially if you just want a tasty dram and not fuss around with finding the sweet spot with water. Of course I'm only talking about craft presented well made whiskies like Glenallachie. With the likes of Balvenie and Macallan, give me a single cask and nothing else please! Cheers dude, a great idea for a video and informative as well 🥃

      Thanks for watching again Sertug. Buddy, I hear ya, sometimes you don't want to have to meddle with a water dropper to properly enjoying your dram. And fully in agreement on producers like Macallan and Balvenie, single cask all day. Cheers buddy 🥃

    I think Billy Walker has done a great job at GlenAllachie, especially pricewise. Despite his protestations that he isn't a slave to consistency, if you find one you like in the core range you can find it again. Too many "craft" distilleries ignore the value of a consistent product. I love the comparisons he offers like the 9 fino vs oloroso vs amontillado. The single casks are fun too, I'm currently on a 17yo ex-Solera I picked up from the distillery. Meikle Toir is fantastic at £50, I especially like the Chinquapin and the Turbo is very interesting.

      Very astute observations on the job that Billy has done at GA. I think you're bang on to suggest they've done a phenomenal job pricewise. My example of that would even be the recently released Meikle Toir lineup. All 4 were priced in a way that you could reasonably pick up a bottle of each. So far I've purchased two, the Original and the Turbo but I could see myself grabbing the others too because of such a reasonable price scheme. That GA 17 Ex-Solera sounds like it would be a real knockout. Consistency is extremely under valued, which is why Diageo distilleries like Lagavulin and Caol Ila, Blair Athol, ect are all the more impressive. Thanks for watching as always, and for the food for thought. Cheers Pete 🥃

    I don't have either open at the moment, but doing the KWM's latest Glenallachie tasting reminded me why the 15 is one of my favourite core-releases from any distillery. I definitely preferred it to the single cask offerings and they were all taken without water XD

      I do generally find the GA Single Casks need a bit of water. Taken straight I agree with you that the 15 is better out of the bottle. If I don't want to fiddle about I reach for the 12 or 15. I'll catch up on that tasting soon, I'm curious how the PX and Ruby Port single casks compare to this one. Cheers Hex! 🥃

    Great video / review as ever Matt. Love your videos so much. And a shout out to the fellow Whiskey fan who asked you to review these bottles. I haven't quite figured out how I can get KWM bottles to Victoria. But I did buy a bottle of the Glenallachie 14 yr old SC PX Puncheon (cask 7044). Haven't picked it up from the Strath yet, as it was $200 before tax (with member discount) and was not sure whether it represented value. Seeing you managed to get a 15 yr old for $150 makes me think doubly hard about it. However, it would be interesting to see how this PX SC stacks up against the Oloroso SC 🤔

      Thanks for watching James! if you are ever up for it email me at my address in the description and I'll walk you through how to order through KWM and get it delivered. I've heard good things about that GA 14 Year PX, I'm sure it's also a really good one. Value is always tougher in B.C., though I do think the price I paid for my GA 15 would be higher if I hadn't bought it more than a year ago. In fact, there is an GA 11 Year single Cask that is $190 in Alberta right now so that 14 PX is sounding better and better. As an aside, I've been revisiting the Glen Garioch 18 year that we have spoken of in the past. I wasn't fully convinced on my first drams. After some time with the fill level lower it is a beauty of a dram. I'm buying a second bottle of it. It's excellent. Hope you're doing well. Cheers buddy 🥃

    Cool side by side Matt. I am more drawn to the 12 and the 10 YO CS. I find the 15 to be too PX heavy for my pallet...maybe it the pepper heat that i wasn't fond of. i can't remember the batch. The 2006 sounds like it would be more to my liking but given my geography and timing may prove to be difficult to come by. The Meikle Toir sherry is fantastic if you haven't tried it same with the Turbo. Billy Walker can do no wrong. Keep up the good work. Go Nucks! Go!

      The GA 12 was an early favourite of mine, but this 15 is growing on me more and more. Sadly yeah this particular GA single cask is gone but if I see another from Oloroso Sherry I would buy it with confidence. I did recently try my first Meikle Toir, the Sherry one and it was an impressive start! Can't wait to try the Turbo. Let's go Canucks, game 5 is a big one. Cheers buddy! 🥃

    With the addition of water, you didn’t mention if you were trying to get the Single Cask to 46%. Something like this is inherently subjective but if I’m comparing to a batched product, I’m super curious to see what happens when the abv “advantage” is eliminated, aside from the question of ideal drinking strength.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  5 місяців тому

      That would be a really cool experiment, to actually proof it down exactly to 46% and compare the two side by side. I could probably get it close but being that precise might be tricky. I had been simply trying to find its best drinking point for my preferences. That cane with the addition of two water droppers. I found a third had a negligible effect and a 4th made it a wee bit thin. Either way a fun little single cask! Thanks for watching. Cheers eh! 🥃

    A bit biased here, but that single cask was pretty darn good in my opinion. - Evan

      Agreed, it was a great one Evan! Thanks to you and the KWM crew for picking yet another great single cask. This is the 4th I've had on the channel and all of them have been killer, though the Benromach 2003, Daftmill 2008 and SMOS Imperial 1998 were more my preference. I think they average around 90/100 so it seems you don't miss on these picks! Thanks for watching. Cheers eh! 🥃

      Meikle Toir is the answer to this question

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  5 місяців тому

      @jamesbornn If the Meikle Toir Sherry is any indication, the future is indeed still very bright for GlenAllachie. Cheers eh! 🥃
