Some interesting bottles opened. Unfortunately, I still haven't seen Glasgow 1770 in 700ml bottles, or Ardnahoe in my market. Still, there's plenty of whisky available here that I haven't tried yet. I've already gone over my annual whisky budget with 2 months still to go. Got 8/10 on the quiz, very happy with that! Cheers!
Hi Roy, just glad I could catch the VPub live ( they are few and far between), nice and laidback.Speaking of new bottles I picked up Kingsbarns distillery reserve 2024 and Kilchoman’s sanaig CS this week. Slàinte Roy
Just caught you on the replay, what a great Vpub Roy! Nothing lazy here, all good content and quite a hard quizz at the end (my 7/10 doesn't feel bad tonight). Can't wait for the OSWAs tomorrow~
Lazy vPubs are nice. Really like it, blether about whisky. New bottles are fine, the Ardnahoe IR is my favourite whisky in my cabinet at the moment. However, I am on a wee mission to get "standard" whiskies (got the Killkerran 12 yesterday) regarded as high end good value in the community. ☺
Lazy vPubs are the best though maybe not best for my wallet however...After that glowing Dramface review and now this, Glasgow Islay Cask Finish now purchased from IWS. All the best for tomorrow night Roy!
Same as with Glenn below Nicks Wines are my 'go to' for some hard to get's. for a number of years now. I still compare prices with local suppliers in Geelong (40 mins from Melbourne). Thoroughly enjoyed the quiz as well.. even with only getting 4 ! thanks, AL
I'm now onto my third blend and slowly getting over that lack of provenance - think you're right about that spot in your journey when these things become attractive
I’ve considered grabbing a Glasgow 1770 but I have only found what may be the earlier releases of the peated green label and the red. Are the early releases significantly less interesting?
@Aqvavitae I've shopped with Nick's Wine Merchants for years. The comparison you made for the Lagavulin is not uncommon. I have bought around 8 -10 of the Oban, Lagavulin and Talisker and the most I've paid for any release is $170 (£85) most have been $120-130. The reverse is true for your £35 to £50 go to whiskies are usually 2.5 to 3 times more expensive in Australia. Swings and roundabouts ! Cheers Glenn
Great Vpub and great to see all those lovely new bottles open. Each to their own but I can't get on board with the Ardnamurchan love in, and £65 for a 10 year old is a bit pricey. Wolfburn got a wile touch not so long ago for releasing a 10 year old at £60. yous are all wrapped around Ardnamurchan's finger! :) i'm jesting, just haven't been convinced on them yet.
It's Friday night here (in Aus) catching the replay and enjoying one of your faves, a Glencadam 10. Cheers Roy, and i'm really looking forward to the OSWAs. BTW, have you tried the JW Black Ruby yet, really cheap & a lovely nose. Palate is predictably disappointing, but I popped a little loch lomond 18 in and it really lifted to next level. Worth a try for a really cheap blend.
I guess the big differentiator between malt and grain is the continous vs single pot still, in the continous still You can't really control the cut, like You can with the single pot, and as this is very decisive in terms of the taste of the liquid You end up with, single pot distilled whisky SHOULD get out on top every time.... - The problem is that You can still (pun intended....;- ) make a too wide cut with the single pot, by which You will end up with a (often significantly) larger yield, and with thát a lot more money for the owner, and if You mix thát malt up with high-quality malt from another distillery, it WILL drag the end product down significantly, I mean, it doesn't take a lot of ethanol'y malt to make a whole batch ethanol'y....;- / I don't know if I have just had bad luck, but the Cambeltown Loch that I got hold of was rather harsh, in the ethanol'y way (< which could indicate an amount of too wide cut malt), it felt a lot like left-hand work, and if thát can come out of Springbank, I am gonna stay with single malts for now, where the distillery directly have their name and reputation on the line, I will certainly not buy blended malts without tasting them first....;- /

Thank you for the introduction to the new bottles, more tomorrow. Happy with my 7 out of 10 tonight.
Fab chilled lazeee Vpub! Cheers Roy!
Much love as always from the two of us
I enjoyed the relaxed hangout so much that I am watching replay after the live.
Loving the replay!! Agree with the Diageo rant!! Love the Ardnahoe!!! Inaugural release
Looking forward to the OSWA’s this afternoon
Enjoying the replay!! Was 7 for 7, but refused to vote for Lagavulin! Never heard of the Shetland distillery!! And #10, nuff said!! Cheers 😂😂
I’m with Gordon! No water!
I want a timemachine to the age-statement releases from Ardnamurchan, Ardnahoe, Lagg, and Torabhaig.
Watching the replay as usual ... one step at the time 😉 with the breakfast 😂

I think whisky sometimes is meant to be enjoyed somewhat lazily. Love this relaxed style.

Watching on the replay for the next 6 months until the clocks change again. See you all back on the live stream in the spring (autumn here).

Really looking forward to be able to grab an ardna 10 when it's available in our area. Multiple if possible.

Though lazy still pretty entertaining! 😄
Just picked up the Oban 2024 special release in South Africa for ZAR1800/GBP80 and the Caol Ila for ZAR1500/GBP66
tqate: 3 d. Glen[n] Turner was a very talented (nz) test cricket batsman, captain, coach, selector, and commentator.🙃
I was able to find the 2024 Oban and Roseisle in Massachusetts for $99. The Talisker could only be found at $110.
