Also remember that Tiefling's sub-races do get additional spells! At level 3 & 5, all the sub-races get additional specific spells that they can cast per long rest. Zariel Tiefling is a decent choice for Paladins because their 3rd level spell is searing smite and their 5th level spell is branding smite.
Another great thing about Duergar is that they gain an invis that does not consume spell slots at level 5 which allows you to setup surprise for every fight which is really strong for any class but especially assassin.
I think you have things backwards. You say martials should play humans, giths, etc. because of their proficiencies. But with martials you get these proficiences anyway. This means that casters are the ones who should play humans, giths, or half elves. Martials are better off choosing races with no default proficiencies, since they get them anyway. Also, you can change the high elf cantrips. I always pick friends, which is amazing for any class that can't get it.
I absolutely see where you are coming from sir and that’s a valid point! I guess it comes down to doubling down on your strengths vs shoring up your weaknesses. If you’re good at math should you focus on English more instead? Also for some examples a bit of practically and roleplay does creep in. Seeing a gnome or halfling barbarian is always pretty funny but it does stretch believability quite a bit 😂!
I think Tiefling should be higher because they are good Martials for fire resistance and mage hand/thaumaturgy is useful especially for paladins which can be party faces. Idk I’m new tho. C just feels low. I’m thinking of doing a zariel tiefling paladin/sorceror. Not sure Durge tho cuz it locks background. I like to do Guild Artisan
@@ThatAnxiousGamer thing is, you are not doubling down at anything, having armor proficiency from 2 sources doesnt make it any better, its redundant, if you are teaching new players info, don't spread misinformation
I plan to do an honour mode run soon. I'm almost finished with my first playthrough (tactician), and I'm considering my build plans for honour mode. I'm currently playing a githyanki Tempest Cleric, and the mobility feats and Astral knowledge have been very valuable. I'm tempted to main as a halfling bard for Honor mode, but I have to agree that the reduced speed is certainly a drawback to consider.
Really enjoying this. Not quite through it yet, but wanted to note that the Drow Half Elf also gets the Drow Faerie Fire & Darkness spells. If you have a build in mind that needs an extra cast of Faerie Fire or Darkness every day, it's not a bad option. I like Half Elves because, well, beards. Not a stats based reason, but I like a beard on my male characters. Astral Knowledge is kind of amazing for any class, particularly for the face of your party. Your Gith Wizard (for example) is also a competent lock picker or talker, as long as you have decent stats. Bard or Rogue are the best skill monkeys, but any Gith can do a great job of filling in where needed. I don’t like their looks, but Duergar are pretty amazing as rogues, assassins, or rangers.
Thanks I appreciate you and your continued viewership a lot! I agree I love the unique look 👀 of drow half elf and think from a role play and uniqueness prospective they are exemplary! I also am a big beard 🧔 fan which is probably why I love dwarfs so much compared to the other smaller races. There really are so many choices but I do hope they add more D&D races into the game into the future as that would be really refreshing and fun.❤️👍🏻👍🏻
Obviously I disagree with elf-human part. There is no reason to play human, because half-elf exist. Half-elf add to human dark vision, fey ancestry and subracial feature (movement speed, for instance), and take away what, carrying capacity? Extra proficiency is not good enough, because this is your least desired proficiency, you've already taken what you most need before that. But there is an obvious reason to play wood elf over wood half elf: it is when your class gives you shield proficiency (or some weapon proficiency you need, but that's more rare). If you don't need civil militia for shields, wood elf over half wood elf just for free brings perception proficiency, which is great, and stealth proficiency, which is good. Thanks for the vid!
I appreciate your support and continued viewership! It’s funny I was on the BG3 subreddit yesterday and saw your photo and was like 👍🏻 I recognize that guy! 😂 Thanks again dude you’re the best.
The only thing I agree on your tier list are the bottom 2 races. Dragonborn is pure RP race, the gameplay stuff they give is mostly useless. Tieflings are almost as bad, the sub race spells they get are mostly bad spells or very situational stuff and people who keep saying Zarial one is good for paladins, those 2 smites per long rest mean very little when other races got passive abilities that enhance the character all the time and most people either blow those smites on useless trash or save em for a big enemy and then forget to use them when they run into a big enemy. Half-Orc is mid tier stuff, normal darkvision is pretty much useless, intimidation proficiency is mostly RP stuff, relentless endurance is mostly useless since if it pops you have already failed massively in the first place and most likely will get whacked before you can make use of your 1 hp. Savage attacks would be nice if it was not restricted to melee only and even then it would only add a little damage to them crits. Drow is not really better than the other elves....well I would say it's middle of the elves, better than high but worse than wood. Drow does get a lot of RP options and is a perfect race for edgy bois. Gith get a lot but most of it is not really useful, Astral knowledge is rarely needed, gear proficiency stuff only really matters to casters as martial classes already get that stuff anyways and the spells are among the better racial spells, there is always room for more misty steps. The short race 1,5 m less movement really does not matter much since there are many ways to pump up that movement and Longstrider goes onto everyone at all times anyways. With that said, best race is Lightfoot Halfling, strongheart is 2nd and Deep gnome and Duergar tied at 3rd spot. These are for every class too, not just for some. Lucky makes you reroll crit misses and many of these crit misses turn into hits and some even turn into crits, in other words lucky makes you land more hits than other races and thus get more damage done. On saving throws it helps you avoid some nasty CC and damage, I will say that gnome cunning is better for this but gnome cunning only helps on saving throws. Then on skill checks lucky helps you once again, less crit fails mean less inspiration wasted on crit failed rolls and you thus have more inspiration to use on those really difficult rolls. At the local shop, halflings can do some serious lifting with lucky and if you steal(or buy if your weak) an invis potion, you can now steal the show from Duergar and their racial spell(best racial spell mind you) when it comes to increasing your wealth.
Highly disagree on the orc extra crit roll, if you make a build that focuses on riders paired with feats like savage attacker and great weapon master you can get a meele class with insane damage. Also astral knowledge is pretty useful too, proficiency on any ability check of your choice is great because you can adapt to what you need and because proficiency bonusess stack on top of those granted by gear. The light and medium armor proficiencies are also amazing for casters or monks, I always found funny how the classes that are supposed to be magically attuned come short in comparison of just being able to use armor lol.
@@zzxp1 Savage attacks is best on paladin in my opinion, as it effects both the weapon damage and smite damage(for some reason). However it's only melee weapon attacks so no fun for monks or druid wildshapes. Take the build you mentioned but replace the half-orc with a Halfling, orc gets bigger crits but halfling lands more hits, how is their overall damage output? I ask it as I have not tested it....yet. Astral knowledge can be good in certain situations, in a well balanced group it is mostly just a flavor thing but say you wanna make Lae'zel into a monk and also want her to deal with locks and traps, since she has the soldier background and monk can't get sleight of hand normally, this is where Astral Knowledge comes in handy, or if you wanna get some conversation bonuses on a character that is not focused on that stuff. Armor proficiency is great in early game and gives more options in late game on classes that don't normally get it.
@@Nuinwing Yes half-orc is one of the best races for a paladin because if you crit you basically smite three times instead of two, you just need some other party member build to land hold person very frequently and crit them into oblivion. Astral knowledge is a good feature to have at hand when you have previous knowledge of what is comming or want to fill some gaps in your rolls, but mostly my main use is to have another party member with decent rolls for trap detection. Finally armor proficiencies are amazing not just for the extra AC (which doesn't hurt either) but for the build variety they offer, for example a Githyanky monk can use the radiant orb armor without needing a dip in fighter or other martial classes, saving him a whole level before it can be used.
For my money Duergar with free invis is top tier for any class. I will grab a second one plus a half orc as hirelings. Minthara with her innate Soul Branding is the Drow to round out my dream team. I use Disguise Self to take advantage of Gith gear, and no I don't mind using Longstrider after every long rest.

Elf is underrated for rogue, its best rogue in the game. It is true that halflings ability is very good. However, he misses on 2 skill proficiencies that the elf gets. The elf gets one more skill proficiency than a dark elf to me, putting them above sure. Drow gets hand crossbow and rapier, but rogues get those skills. Perception is a really great skill for rogues, especially in heavily trapped areas. It's a must imo. Also, getting stealth is great as well, which means you can direct your background to 2 more helpful rogue abilities, giving you 4 proficiencies starting out. To me, I like a halfling, but I lose 2 proficiencies, and with a dark elf, I lose 1. So elf is very great rogues.
