I currently have a zv1 and have been a little on the side lines as I’m hearing the m50 has a bigger sensor, guess my fear is should I go with a canon m50 compared to the Sony zv1; for client portraits or product photography. I just don’t want to give up the video quality the zv1 offers, or is the zv1 more then capable of producing professional photos? what are your thoughts on this?
Great little video for people who know nothing about photo editing, like me :D Thanks a bunch. One of my ZV1s is set up exactly the same as yours to. But with an extra grip on the left side to as I have terrible shakes.
Bought the camera thanks to this video. Thanks Vic. Quick one, I might be missing it from your accessories list. What kind of grip are you using for this particular camera?
I’m about to purchase the, zv1 but I’m just wondering is it a good option for travel photography. I’ll no doubt use it for some video, my primary use will be taking stills in the alps while snowboarding in France & Switzerland.
Hey Stewart, absolutely. However it all depends on what you’re shooting ultimately. There isn’t a huge zoom lens on it so if you think you’d need to be close up to the action from far away then it’s a non runner. Otherwise. It’s a beast.
Hey Danny. Thanks dude. I’d really appreciate if you’d let me know why you think it’s one of the best. Really curious as this video has gone through a fair few changes
@@VicBarry Sure! I personally liked that you took the time to put up definitions of some technical terms for those who own the ZV-1 as their first camera and might not be familiar with all of that yet. Also you maintained a clear structure and kept everything uncomplicated 👍🏻
Also , another quick question, would you happen to have one of those livestreams you did with the ZV-1 ? I joined in quite late and I wanted to go back and watch the beginning too but I couldn't find the time...
I'd hardly call the Sony ZV-1 a point & shoot camera - a term usually applicable to very simple, cheap cameras. The ZV-1 costs around €800 and is pitched mainly at vloggers all of whom would know their f stops from their shutter speeds. A true P&S would be something like the Canon IXUS 185 which retails around €135. Be that as it may, any camera can be used to produce excellent results and the pointers you provide all help in that regard. Give someone who knows their stuff an old Kodak Instamatic film camera with a plastic lens and they will produce good results. In the same way that it's the chef and not the cooker, it's the photographer and not the camera.
Hey John, thanks for watching and the great comment. I take the point, but point and shoot is necessarily about cost but size. But totally agree, it's not about the camera, it's about who's using it!
Hi Vic can you do a low light video 📹 with the ZV1 but using a led light to help with exposure 😉 would like to see how it responds with a light to help out
So..I tried to take stills with the zv1; could not figure out the timer_thought I had..til I loaded them into the computer_somehow had over 100 pics and actually, only pushed the shutter about 4x Can you explain that? Maybe a video on using the self-timer etc Thanks in advance 👍
Format the SD card from the camera. The tip nowbody actually cared about, until they do a little research why their priceless photos was corrupted. One tip I would like to see... check the pc monitor your using for color calibrations etc. (or just do a sanity check on another device of the finished result).
Hey there, absolutely. On the color calibrations, while it's absolutely useful to have a properly calibrated monitor, always rely on the scopes and not your eyes :)
Darn Vic, did you really just convince me to leave security blanket of Intelligent Auto?! LOL Manual ...what?! , ...noooooo!😲. Okay you’re right, gotta do it! Thanks for the tips and another great. video!
Who knows. Not sure the current menu system lends itself to touch completely. What would you like to do with the touch screen or how could it be better?
Hi Vic, I am new to this camera world, I bought zv1 to video record some book reading - to only show the pages of book to the viewers, i will be grateful if you could suggest some settings for such recordings on zv1. Thanks
Hey. Manual focus and manual exposure and you should be good once you dial it in. You’ll probably need to have the book lit with a light as well. Best of luck.
Vic.... That expression you have with the angles was priceless! Another banger. Like you I can't shoot without the smallrig attached (ancient carpel tunnel torture) . 2 quickies Vic What is your post edit s/w preference? What's your 2nd fav compact all in one?
Hey Kev. Thanks man. Maybe I’m half asleep but what’s post edit s/w preference? It could mean a few things so need to you clarify 😂 2nd favourite compact is without a doubt the Sony rx100 v. In fact it’s probably my favourite because I’ve had it for a long time. I’m kinda attached to it sentimentally 🙏
@@VicBarry ahhhhh my fault. Do you edit with Photoshop or Lightroom for example? You’d mention that editing pics after can make a difference. Accenting the colors etc.
@@VicBarry probably how to use lightroom My photos with this camera have mostly been poor haha. I real need to work out how to use ir I have a pixels 3 xl and it takes super photos as soon as you pull it out of your pocket Though I'm trying to remember to use the zv1 for thumbnails and edit them in lightroom to get them to pop
That is 1 thing I've yet to use the zv1 for LOL I use a Canon 7D Mark II for that, tbh; I'll admit, it, has not been out in over a year.. The zv1 is used for video, mostly 🤔 hehe and I'm terrible at that 😁
Ha. Yeah. To be honest it’s really capable and because of its size it makes things more fun because you don’t have to be dragging around a bag of lenses etc
What defines a "professional photo"? Thats like a "professional camera", there is no such thing. A disposable camera can be used to take professional photos. Nice video though.

Thanks Josh. Did you learn much from this vid?
Still prefer cameras to phones for photos and videos. Something about the quality on the phone and that fear of running out of space.
