The first four scary movies will always hold a very special place in my heart. But the 5th movie is just complete awful garbage that can go straight to hell.
It's fun to think that the difference between this movie and its sequels, not to mention the string of other "Movies" that followed, was this one wasn't entirety reliant on cheap gags, easy send-ups and gross out humor. It had those things, yes, but it was also clever and at times subtle, weaving a real story into the madness while having fun making you laugh. Maybe because it started the trend of bad 2000's spoofs that became increasingly tedious and predictable, people might forget how good the original was. I don't know how many people saw it, but there was another film like this around the same time called Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th that was basically a lazier version of Scary Movie and seemed more interested in talking down to the audience that entertaining them. I haven't seen either film in 18-19 years, but I remember Scary Movie more for all the right reasons, and know I'd enjoy it again.

This review was a pleasant surprise. 😀. Great review Lee, I am looking forward to the Scary Movie 2 review. Especially when they do The Exorcist parody.
I'm inclined to think that Shannon Elizabeth in the bathroom, where she gets her head cut off is the funniest part of the movie - it overcomes begging the parody , and is a spiritual representation of American High school settings
You should do a review for Stan helsing 2009 it a funny movie and it has all of the killers in that movie like for Michael Myers Jason Voorhees pinhead Freddy Krueger chucky van helsing jeepers creepers and leatherface too and it the executive producer of scary movie 2000 and also soul plane 2004 too

I need to upgrade these 2 on disc. Brenda is awesome. Part 2 is even better - I always think of Chris Elliot’s “Hanson” whenever I see a cooked Turkey...”now, some people are intimidated by cooking a Turkey” and then OMG...
Been desperately trying to teach a 3 year old to say “wazzzzzuuuuppp?!” for weeks. No dice yet. Hilarious movie though. The first time I saw it I was 8 years old and the beginning of this movie truly scared the hell out of me. Another great video. (Also, still waiting on my Cape Fear review from a couple years back! 😁)
I thought I was ready for this, being very familiar with the comedy of the entire Wayans family for years. The trailer scenes had been played out by the time I saw the movie, so I was expecting more of that, in the same vein as "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" and "Don't Be A Menace...". They turned it up past 10 and broke the fucking knob 😂. It was more than just gags and pop culture references stamped throughout spoof movies of the past. Keenan and his bros actually know how to write a great story within all of the funny moments. Once the Wayans took their ball and went home after the sequel, the others don't exist in my universe lol

And Scary Movie 2, I liked that one as well, the rest, I do feel, losing The Wayans Brothers has it lose quality. Still had a few moments that made me laugh, but 3-5, really not my favorites. Anyways, thank you, Lee.
@DrumDums I’ve seen the 1st and 4th scream movies I’ve never seen the others, the original Scream easily has one of the most memorably iconic horror movie openings to me, right there next to something like IT with the Sewer Drain Sequence. I’ll definitely be watching this one tomorrow as it seems like Doofy is hilarious and it seems to me that, I would definitely be laughing my ass off at him more than anybody else just because like you said in your review I won’t be able to help but, think of Dewey in Scream. Also, the audio clip that made my ribs hurt I laughed so hard was when I forget the guys name but, Doofu essentially says “Hey Man, sniff my finger.” Then the guy sniffs it and says “ugh dude! What is that!” Then he laughs and says “My Ass!” You definitely should be able to get my sense of humor it’s like I’m a little kid in a 24 year old man’s body that’s how it feels sometimes but, stuff rarely makes me laugh anymore mostly because the jokes don’t hit or they do but, much like you say early on in your review I’ve laughed so much I can’t physically do it anymore by the 15 to 20 minute mark if I make it that long into these spoof films before I’m just burnt out from laughing so hard.
Wow can't believe you haven't seen 2 and 3. Funny enough those are my least favorites of the franchise, but I still have fun with them. The first 2 Scary Movies are hilarious.
@DrumDums yeah not sure if this makes fun of 3 or just the first 2 however, I may have to watch the first 2 scary movies since, they are both on HBO Max at the moment actually.
If someone doesn't have this movie in their collection, they must smell Doofy's finger! I'm kidding! LOL!! The nod to Usual Suspects at the end is classic! That's also a must-have movie! By the way, if you did do the shirt thing, people would have probably peed themselves from laughing! LOL

Love this movie. When I met Dave Sheridan last month, he mentioned that he & David Arquette used to live on the same street shortly before this movie was made
This movie forever a classic comedy and I love the Wayans Brothers always watched their show but this and Scary Movie 2 are the best the part where that actress that was like Gale Weathers from Scream that scene with her running in a Blair Witch parody and a lot of boogers and mucus coming out of her nose still crack my ass up!
The only other Scream parody I could find is Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth. It was an ok movie, Scary Movie is definitely better though. Also, interestingly enough, the original title for Scream was gonna be Scary Movie.
Love the original Scary Movie, and really enjoy part 3 and 4. Never did care for the quick follow up sequel. Hard to believe Scary Movie out grossed nearly every movie it was parodying but this flick was a phenom. But let's give props to the original Budweiser commercial that first did the "WHATS UUUUUP?" line that Scary Movie ran with so well. Oh, and the Shawn Wayans running gay joke is actually making fun of the "down low" culture in the black communities, where dudes act street tough and straight around their friends but get down with the fellas when nobody is looking.
The scream franchise is one of my all time favorites, and this movie absolutely nails it as a spoof. In my opinion, it's hands down the greatest movie of it's kind.
Shrike If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th is way better, rumor is the Weinstein's wanted the script but they where not able to get it so they rushed there own version which became Scary Movie and put it in theater's first and Shrike was forced to go direct to video!
Great review the first 4 scary movies are just classic but my favorite spoof is the naked gun trilogy it just very hard to beat those movies from just how hilarious and genius they were
I liked the Shannen Elizabeth scene where she sees her boyfriend being killed but it's @ a beauty contest & the judges think that good an actress. She's the next Pamela Lee. Also, I liked the part where the teacher was talking about prayers needed to be back in schools while breastfeeding a baby & she gives the baby to a student & says " you go back to your daddy" She looks @ the kid beside him "I'll see you after class" the 2 boys high 5 each other & go "all right"
I literally made friends in college through our love of Scary Movie. I call her Brenda and she calls me Shorty lol. One of my Favorite parts is when Cindy throws her Grandmother down the stairs in front of the killer and then hits her with the piano 😂
I would say the first scary movie was the best. The second was okay, funny enough with the Wayne brothers. The 3, 4 and 5th were awful and should be forgotten. Another movie just as funny IMO was Not Another Teen Movie, which I’m glad they never did a sequel.
Never been a fan of horror-comedy, tho still had fun with these :) Shaun of the dead is my favourite comedy horror movie. and yeah Scary movie 2 might be my best of the 4.
@DrumDums this movie sounds hilarious! It makes me want to watch Scream 1 through 3 just so I can rent the original Scary Movie when I get a chance so I understand the gags.
@DrumDums I’ve seen the original Scream and I’ve seen Scream 4 I’ve never seen 2 and 3 all the way through I’ve caught bits and pieces of 2 on cable when they’ve been running marathons in October of them or whatever but, I’ve mostly only seen the first maybe 15 minutes if that of Scream 2. The only ones I’ve seen in their entirety are the original and Scream 4, I’m super excited to check out at least the first two before watching Scary Movie from 2000 which I’ve never seen but, luckily it’s coming to HBO Max on August 1st which I already pay for so, I won’t have to rent it on demand or whatever.
The first 3 Scary Movies is a great trilogy especially Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 but 4 ruined and the rest of the horrible sequels ruined the franchise thank goodness 4 was the last I ever seen.
@@DrumdumsOfficial They are Date Movie which came out in 2006 or 2007 the only funny spoof movie Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, Not Another Teen Movie and Date Movie are my only 5 spoof movies.

Uhh.... Part 2 was the only good sequel.
Well Cindy. We all have our little secrets
A fun movie like this is Student Bodies 1981 it is one of the first satire of slasher films.
I can't believe I haven't seen that one.
The scream franchise is one of my all time favorites, and this movie absolutely nails it as a spoof. In my opinion, it's hands down the greatest movie of it's kind.
Yeah it's that rare case of sidesplitting laughs while keeping a decent plotline.
Wrong! Spaceballs is better!
@@MrParkerman6 it's definitely a good one!
Love this movie and love your review
Thank you Daniel!
This is definitely a classic of the 2000s unfortunately it was the end of an era... it killed the spoof movie genre
Scary Movie is the best horror parody film since Young Frankenstein.
I SAID DON'T DISTURB ME WHILE I'M CLEANING MY ROOM!!!!
Still a fun one to watch today. I would to see them try and do it now.
you should do a review for all of the scary movies like you did with the first scary movie drumdums
Shrike If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th is way better, rumor is the Weinstein's wanted the script but they where not able to get it so they rushed there own version which became Scary Movie and put it in theater's first and Shrike was forced to go direct to video!
One of my fave comedies
I've seen The Usual Suspects!
I didn't get the vacuum cleaner thing until many watches later. I took it literally that he was cleaning his room :D
Oh you stop it right now Beth. Everyone loves some good vacuum cleaner humor. :p
Also, I liked the part where the teacher was talking about prayers needed to be back in schools while breastfeeding a baby & she gives the baby to a student & says " you go back to your daddy" She looks @ the kid beside him "I'll see you after class" the 2 boys high 5 each other & go "all right"
Haha yes! That scene was great.
I literally made friends in college through our love of Scary Movie. I call her Brenda and she calls me Shorty lol. One of my Favorite parts is when Cindy throws her Grandmother down the stairs in front of the killer and then hits her with the piano 😂
That's awesome man! Love stories like this.
Funny I always thought only thing that could beat Myers would be weed. Wonder if that thought process stems back to this film haha
The first 2 Scary Movie films are my favourite spoof movies
Cindy got that fun personality going
She sure does!
I would say the first scary movie was the best. The second was okay, funny enough with the Wayne brothers. The 3, 4 and 5th were awful and should be forgotten.
Another movie just as funny IMO was Not Another Teen Movie, which I’m glad they never did a sequel.
I love the 2nd even more than the first.
Hi Lee, any chance of a IT Chapter Two revisited soon?
Yeah let me give it another watch. Could be a fun Revisit.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Awesome! I’m looking forward to it!
I said don't disturb me when i'm cleaning my room!!!
Never been a fan of horror-comedy, tho still had fun with these :)
Shaun of the dead is my favourite comedy horror movie. and yeah Scary movie 2 might be my best of the 4.
Oh Shaun is how it's done right!
Scary Movie was the original title for Scream...lol....this movie was inevitable...😂
@DrumDums this movie sounds hilarious! It makes me want to watch Scream 1 through 3 just so I can rent the original Scary Movie when I get a chance so I understand the gags.
You've never seen the Scream movies?
@DrumDums as it seems like it mostly makes fun of the first two films mostly the first movie but, maybe it makes fun of 3 a little bit but, who knows.
The first 3 Scary Movies is a great trilogy especially Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 but 4 ruined and the rest of the horrible sequels ruined the franchise thank goodness 4 was the last I ever seen.
Yeah the thing I've found is that most spoof movies from the late 2000s were pretty bad.
@@DrumdumsOfficial They are Date Movie which came out in 2006 or 2007 the only funny spoof movie Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, Not Another Teen Movie and Date Movie are my only 5 spoof movies.
@Drumdums
It's still the early 2000s! Mid 2000 is 2500. Everyone alive now will be dead by the mid 2000s.
Hi! Drumdums! can you recommend a good slasher to see? I ran out of good slashers, don't mind if they are not from the 80s,90s,thank u!
The Prowler, Maniac, Pieces, Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh.
@@DrumdumsOfficial thannkkss:)
