That is the saddest story I've ever heard l am 72 years old n l was scammed like this gentleman. I was totally under his control and l wouldn't listen to anyone either. Finally my son had a intervention with other family members. I had my phone taken away and my reaction was l wanted to commit suicide. Thank god l got counseling n l am doing good . I send my prayers to that woman n her family. SCAMMERS DONT CARE ABOUT ANYONE JUST THE MONEY.!!! 😭😭😭😭

I have a friend who is sure that the two 20-something beauties who contacted him out of the blue are going to be moving in with him any day now, as soon as he sends them more money for plane tickets, suitcases, and god only knows what else. He’s almost 70. I’ve tried talking to him and have offered to show him that he’s being scammed by some thug from Nigeria. That was about a month ago and my friend no longer speaks to me. God bless your son - he sounds like a good man and I hope you know how blessed you are to have him.
Widows are a big target for scammers. They know they aren't used to being alone and will let their guard down if it means they think they have a new love and marriage. And then suck them dry until they have nothing.
That they are & when we confront them Like I did on facebook. They tell me to go to hell for all they care. I told them I am not the one stealing money from people. Plus when they don't get what they want. They turn very, very nasty. I wouldn't waste my time with even one. let them in.
Plus, they'd rather have them scamming westerners than killing each other in the streets of Accra and Lagos. It's a win-win situation for those governments.

Nigeria and Ghana are resource rich nations, both in oil and Ghana also has gold mining. There is NO REASON why these nations shouldn't be an African version of Dubai. The problem, the world won't confront the ripple effects of slavery and colonization. Both Ghana and Nigeria were British colonies, They extracted resources (including kidnapping people) and not developing the colonies for the native population who lived there. Instead, they cultivated an elite class exploiting their tribal system which turned into political factions in time for independence in the 1960s and then they went to war. You can see how complex these problems are, and Nigeria has Islamist terrorism in the poorly developed north with drug traffickers in the coastal south making things worse. Scamming is just part of organized crime, and bad behavior is rewarded more than problem solving because it's easier and it's the little guy who usually fits the bill.

These leeches keep the economies of their home countries going, just like the scam call centers in India do. The corruption level is enormous and nothing is done about this. They gladly look away if they get a small portion of the scammed profits. Scam bosses in India pay the police to not interrupt their "business". All scammers are heartless monsters.

Please talk to your parents about scams BEFORE they have time to get mixed up in one. Ask them to tell their friends about scams. ALL of them! In an age where so many seniors are on line they need to know how to protect themselves.
Something similar happened to my mother’s elderly neighbor who had been widowed for many years. The scammers had her brainwashed for over four years. She was in love with someone named “Craig” who was supposedly in his 50’s. Mom’s neighbor was in her 80’s. She ended up sending all her savings, took out a second mortgage on her house and sent that money, became unable to pay water and electricity bills, and could no longer afford her monthly medications. She died from the complications brought on from missing her necessary medication (heart and blood pressure meds). No one could convince her it was a scam…her sister, her nieces, my mom, the bank, etc. She had no children. Very tragic story. These scammers are emotional terrorists.
This is the most sorrowful SCAMMING story I have ever heard. My heart goes out to this woman and her family. This is EVIL in its purest form. I can just see this SCAMMER laughing and dancing. This story of an elderly man who had all the needs in life of family, home and future. This is the ultimate of sadness when someone this man had not even met in person can manipulate someone to give all they have. It cannot say it too many times how these scammers are heartless vultures! Sometimes very innovative and detail oriented who respond daily to personal questions and seem sincere, but thier objective is to get someone hooked and squeeze money for their cause. They have no conscious or guilt.
My mum is 84 and has lost her house a and every cent. And no longer speaks to any of her family. And yes, her thinking is crazy with these despots dabbling in her head every day. Now she just waits and wait s for him to get to Australia. She was actually stopped at the airport by the federal police, when she tried to surprise her lover by leaving for America. Now she has very little money because she's renting a house, but does things like bus two mangoes instead of just one for herself in case he gets into Australia in the middle of the night. It's madness

It’s all a bunch of lies, lies, and more lies. this hurt to listen to. her father was addicted to this. im an alcoholic and i understand pushing people away that love you, isolating and totally ruining my life to feed my addiction. although i can't understand HIS addiction to all of this, i understand what he felt. i am so broken at how he passed and that his life ended in such a painful way.
I always wonder about the people who suggest that their family member try online dating and then that family member gets scammed. I know they have to feel horrible.
So very, very sad. It's time for people to recognize that online scams can lead to mental illness, specifically a delusional disorder. It's very, very real, brought on by acute loneliness, depression, grief, denial, and trauma. Imagine the pain of realizing you've been tricked and lied to. Good point. I went on a latin website. Then these hotties started contacting me. I was skeptical. Because on sites like hinge or tinder i barely got noticed. Im learning slowly. Hot woman dont have problems finding attention.
90% plus of seniors know this…my parents are mid-80s, very Internet knowledgeable and would laugh at any model suddenly chasing them as much as if a Nigerian prince heard they were a trust-worthy person who could help them in a great business deal. These stories are the tragic minority. But 50% of us have some degree of dementia by the same age, and before the symptoms are full blown (can’t correctly name year) - there can be a decline in judgement, especially who to trust.

This is so SO sad. After a background in fraud I help people realise they are talking to scammers, and no I dont charge before anyone asks. I have ONE rule of thumb tho… IF YOUR GUT INSTINCT IS TELLING YOU THAT THINGS AREN’T RIGHT… I’m 99.9% sure YOUR TALKING TO A SCAMMER. Listen to that little voice you try to block out.♥️

The scams that I fell for were 1) romance 2) bitcoin 3) job scams. I still feel ashamed up to this day. Scammers don't care and they are heartless. They're not interested in love, they just want our money. Never talk about money in relationships. If they refuse to video chat, block them immediately

Sad story. It's not only money that was wasted but even the life of the victim himself. Most scammed people really felt depressed even the family members. What is worst is neglecting your own family just to give in to the demands of scammers believing that they are legit. By the way, my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the victim.

She ended up sending all her savings, took out a second mortgage on her house and sent that money, became unable to pay water and electricity bills, and could no longer afford her monthly medications. She died from the complications brought on from missing her necessary medication (heart and blood pressure meds). No one could convince her it was a scam…her sister, her nieces, my mom, the bank, etc. She had no children. Very tragic story. These scammers are emotional terrorists.

Something has got to be done about this. This cannot happen to someone else. There is no closer for a family when this happens. I know...my mom died a few yrs ago...thats a whole other story...but I know how they feel and quite a bit of what they have gone thru.

This story of an elderly man who had all the needs in life of family, home and future. This is the ultimate of sadness when someone this man had not even met in person can manipulate someone to give all they have. It cannot say it too many times how these scammers are heartless vultures! Sometimes very innovative and detail oriented who respond daily to personal questions and seem sincere, but thier objective is to get someone hooked and squeeze money for their cause. They have no conscious or guilt.
My mum is 84 and has lost her house a and every cent. And no longer speaks to any of her family. And yes, her thinking is crazy with these despots dabbling in her head every day. Now she just waits and wait s for him to get to Australia. She was actually stopped at the airport by the federal police, when she tried to surprise her lover by leaving for America. Now she has very little money because she's renting a house, but does things like bus two mangoes instead of just one for herself in case he gets into Australia in the middle of the night. It's madness

I can’t believe how much the story sounds just like my dad right now we are going through the same exact thing he lost everything his credit cards, all his good credit, a car and RV and he’s pretty close to losing his home and he still believes these people this womanis my dad 78 and this woman’s 54 my age he believes she’s still sending him $20,000 but every day there’s just an excuse and then 65,000 was supposed to come but the IRS had to hold of it. It’s all a bunch of lies, lies, and more lies. this hurt to listen to. her father was addicted to this. im an alcoholic and i understand pushing people away that love you, isolating and totally ruining my life to feed my addiction. although i can't understand HIS addiction to all of this, i understand what he felt. i am so broken at how he passed and that his life ended in such a painful way.

It's very, very real, brought on by acute loneliness, depression, grief, denial, and trauma. Imagine the pain of realizing you've been tricked and lied to. 90% plus of seniors know this…my parents are mid-80s, very Internet knowledgeable and would laugh at any model suddenly chasing them as much as if a Nigerian prince heard they were a trust-worthy person who could help them in a great business deal. These stories are the tragic minority. But 50% of us have some degree of dementia by the same age, and before the symptoms are full blown (can’t correctly name year) - there can be a decline in judgement, especially who to trust.

This is so SO sad. After a background in fraud I help people realise they are talking to scammers, and no I dont charge before anyone asks. I have ONE rule of thumb tho… IF YOUR GUT INSTINCT IS TELLING YOU THAT THINGS AREN’T RIGHT… I’m 99.9% sure YOUR TALKING TO A SCAMMER. Listen to that little voice you try to block out.♥️

I still feel ashamed up to this day. Scammers don't care and they are heartless. They're not interested in love, they just want our money.

Most scammed people really felt depressed even the family members. What is worst is neglecting your own family just to give in to the demands of scammers believing that they are legit.

When 99 percent of an older person's life is attention from strangers, its easy to manipulate them and isolate them. Its critical for them to be included in family activities and have things to look forward to.
