I never understood why my dad was so into the Tarzan soundtrack. He listened to that CD non-stop for over a year. It wasn't until he passed (way too early) that it came to me. Dad connected to the themes of love, adoption and fatherly protection because of my adoption. Thanks for being a part of a song that helped me understand my father in a way I hadn't.
Yeah, I remember this song suddenly hitting me hard when I became a dad.
eggy68 Lovely story!
Beautiful story, you made me cry.
Wow...
Your dad has great taste. Great soundtrack. Really some of Phil Collins best work. The Brother Bear soundtrack is worth checking out, though I guess those songs are about brotherhood.
"I hope I remember the song" *nails every freaking note and drops some killin fills
He made one little mistake at 6:27. You can see he is not sure for a moment but I love that he doesn't edit his videos. That gives me the feeling it's ok to fuck up occasionally^^
Leland’s really good @ that !
My mom passed away 1 month ago, I still remember when we went to watch Tarzan, and she told me that's my song for you. Now I'm 35, she was 58 (young), now she's in my heart. Cheers from Mexico, Mr. Sklar, love your videos.
DEAR LELAND, I'M BRAZILIAN, AND IT'S AN HONOR TO BE SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL, EMOTION AND JOY, I FEEL WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS, NEVER STOP PLAYING, FOR US WHO REALLY LOVE MUSIC, A BIG HUG!
My 2 year old, Jack, just saw me watching this video. “Daddy! Santa plays bass too!!”. Thank you for making me almost as cool as Santa - and for all these videos! Keep safe and sane!
That's great...Daddy and Santa.... 😊❤
Mike Lawrence Love it!🎅🏽
That is just an awesome story! Keep the great videos coming and the story telling!
Santa plays bass too)))))
The same here man! My 2 years kid.
Thanks so much for sharing everyday. Your bass playing, your kind heart... I am learning so much!!
First time I heard this song was the day my Mom was put into hospice. She died two days later and this song shall always be her song. I have never heard it without tearing up.
Beautifully fluid and melodic bass line, it doesn’t just complement the song, if lifts it
Lee, Thank you so much for letting us "In." For starters the obvious, we don't often get a chance to be up close with not only how you approach a tune, but some of the inside baseball regarding the tune itself. More importantly, with all that is going on now, all of our social circles have gotten much smaller, some to a point of a standstill. Everyday, I look forward from hearing from my new friend Lee. I get to learn some things about bass playing, some things about making music in general, and especially some things about life. Definitely a bright spot in my day!
Amen, brother!
Golden touch !!!
This man is a treasure and we should enjoy him as long as possible.
"My new friend Lee," is so accurate....
Like an eagle soaring... the grace and sweetness of those bass lines. Amazing.
he used to play with Phil Collins !! whatching this is a privilege ! thank you for this
The only good thing about Covid is Lees videos.
Indeed.😂😂
Cool dude !
You should go watch some of Tom Bukovac's.
Please stop
I was only introduced to the tracks themselves and didn't watch this movie. I feel whenever listening that it's his song
"I Wish It Would Rain Down" has got a cool bassline. *wink wink*
It does, on the record it was played by Pino Palladino on his fretless Music Man bass, but the video featured Lee on an upright bass, so it would certainly be interesting to see Lee play it on his Dingwall.
Ohhhhh yeah!!!!
Gherson069 Yesss! ! ! 👉👍👈
Beautiful!!!!
Pino had/has a similar sound, a similar hand, if I recall correctly.
So simple yet so marked and elegant. Dear sir u have the groove and play beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful music
The Tarzan sound track is probably some of my favorite work from Phil Collins. Under appreciated IMO
Beauttiful songs, beautiful bas, beautiful vocal Phil,'s Thank you ,super ❤❤❤❤
Phil made some fire songs for Disney though. The songs are so comforting, definitely why so many millennials are fans of him today.
Your form. The smoothness in every note. You, sir, must be the Avatar
this right there is the definition of perfection.
Beginners play root note in beat. Advanced learn to do friggin anything and throw shit at the wall. Masters play just as much as needed.
Those little fills are so much amazingly on point. enough to make it super exiting. Little enough to not annoy and keep the feeling of the rythm. amazing.
As far as I'm concerned, Leland, you can do all of the songs you've done with Phill, between your awesome bass playing and Phill's fantastic vocals, you two make his music the awesome thing it is
Wow, this is fabulous.
Thank you for continuing to post daily. I came here because the YT algorithm found that I should see you the day you posted about another social media mishap. I am forever grateful as again, i've listened to you my entire life and now am able to be a regular recipient of stories that also include your time with Phil Collins, whom I have been an enormous fan of from Genesis since the early 80s. Looking forward to tomorrow.
It's so nice to re-watch your vids, Mr Sklar.
Cheers!
Greetings Lee. Love these videos!
“Spectrum” - yesterday was my Billy Cobham day. Driving up thru the Berkshires! I bought that album upon its release in 73! Just incredible!
Hope this finds you well!
BEAUTIFUL SONG, BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES OF THE YEAR 1999 ♥️
Leland Sklar...
he plays with great feeling the songs that were part of his career ... it is beautiful to see.
Oh Lee ! You are beautiful human being. Telling stories and playing music you take as away from our daily troubles puting smiles on our faces. Take care and stay safe Lee, and others out there too
This was such a treat. Thanks for your videos! It’s awesome to get to watch such a legend. Now I gotta go practice.
It's fantastic to watch a true 5 string player play and utilize all 5 strings and the whole fretboard!
I love your videos, see you play the music of my greatest IDOL, gives me joy and happines, see you and hear you tells me that I am listening to the real deal the genuine Phil collins Band please never stop playing together.
Thank you Lee for all these video's...you certainly do not need Facebook...this beats that any old day! Cheers James
One of the most beautiful songs...
Thanks again Lee. Sharing your wealth of knowledge and playing everyday has become a daily dose of calm and wisdom for me. Your words are comforting in a time of uncertainty and I for one am very grateful to you. I wish you much love and joy. Be well.
I'm really digging these videos...thanks for posting.😎🥁🎸
That's a really cool looking bass; love those colors. These videos absolutely make my day....really look forward to them every day!!!
Can't like this enough. The kinder, gentler people will prevail! Dingwall gas is strong.
I love the slide using the root and 10th. Very "Walk on the Wild side" and the great Herbie Flowers.
I'm loving listening and watching you play. Proof that it's always possible to find a positive in crap situations.
Thanks so much.
It’s a pleasure to see you posting videos on UA-cam, Leland. The music that you’ve had a part in sharing with all of us with Phil Collins holds a special place in all of our hearts and memories. Thank you
So incredible playing... You have definitely soft touch. I'm so thankful that I can be watching your playing video in my room. I've been always respecting you. Take care not to make yourself ill!
What a pleasing bass style you have- perfect, really. Love the sliding chord. Grateful for what amount to some serious bass lessons (for us players), your continuing sharing of your kind-hearted energy, and your reminders of our gratitude to the people risking their health and lives for us. Thank you.
Glad to watch these videos , through these difficult times 😀👍
Thank you Leland for all you do...they are high moments in my day. Your dingeall guitars are beautiful and sound awesome. I never heard of them before.
Beautiful line for Bass. God bless you , Mr. Leland. And beautiful Bass
My favorite of Phil, and so beautiful bass lines, directo to my heart. I Can fell it!!!! You are one Mr. Sklar. Bless yu!
its Great to see a Bass Player Play Bass for a change instead of popping on UA-cam trying to be a solo King, L SKlar is as smooth as they come when putting down those Bass Lines, it brings back memories of James Jamerson, Thanks
Thank you for this presentation with the upgrate of the bass. Nice! Thank you.
I never thought the bass melody was so cool! Good job man!
I know I am repeating myself. But still. You are a genius. And such a kind soul. Thank you for all this.
Great stories from your tours and studio work! Keep em coming. And thank you!
Damn you’re so good! No kidding... I love the way you play!!!! Don’t ever stop sharing these videos!!!! Thank you so much!!!
You look amasing with that huge beard! God bless you and Phil Collins! I used to play base a bit. I love Phil so much! Tell Phill I love him too in Jesus name. Both be blessed guys. Love his songs so much.
I will play this bassline in a presentation this 27th April in Argentina at the legendary Mister Jones Pub in Ramos Mejia, Buenos aires. So usefull, thank you 😍
Still one my fav Phil songs!
So beautiful the way you play... Thank you for showing us that.
What a beautiful Dingwall! Thanks for doing these Senor Sklar!
GOD!! See, what I love about Lee's playing is that he is not only major conscious and complimentary to the vocals, but his delivery is fucking BUTTER. He's just smooth on literally anything he plays. I want to say it's almost like a low-pitched lullaby, I guess that's how I can best describe it, lol. However you describe it, it's effin good, good stuff.
Thank you for making this channel, sir. I heard this song a lot as a kid and want to learn it the right way :) take care, deeply appreciate these videos.
Hi Leland, a hello from over the big blue, from the little country Belgium. Thanks a lot for the time you put into this video’s you make for us.
A real pleasure to hear you play the bass, but also a pleasure to listen to your stories! Thank you very much!
Take care of yourself and may the Music-God bless you.......,
Peace, Gustian.
You know you are good when nobody can spot your mistakes....
In Germany it is almost 1AM in the morning when your videos go live. But i still be awake to just check on to your channel every night. It is always a pleasure to listen to you playing. Today I really do love this song, because it reminds me of my split up with my girlfriend almost 1 year ago. She'll be in my heart....that's for sure. Thank you for playing this song.
Lee....is a pure legend. Saw him with Phil and Toto live....after Mike Porcaros health problems he had 5 days to learn the set! 5 days for all Toto songs!!! That‘s freaking awesome.... hats off.... btw: i‘m a drummer and watching these videos with an open mouth....
It's maybe a bit weird to thank someone for making you cry but, thank you, sir. I'll never forget you.
My favourite Phil song!! Always loved that bass line! Thanks for showing us it
Is there a “LOVE” button?!? Thank you for making these beautiful bass lines for all of us to learn from!
Beautiful. When listening to these bass parts in isolation it always amazes me how melodic they are...
Thank you for your ideas, and this one is sort of a me as a bassist to my friend as a drummer that got me into music, one of the songs that remind us as musicians and as brothers from another mother we have to stick together no matter what. Thank you! Have a day!
Thank you for this wonderful job! You are amazing!
Just discovered your UA-cam channel today. Truly enjoyed your musical talents. In these uncertain and turbulent times, music is cathartic and provides solace. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you all the best - health, safety for you and your loved ones. Take good care.

Meus sentimentos 🇧🇷🙏
Thanks again Leland. Love your stories and your playing. Following this from the first one and look out every day for a new video. It's a relief for humble bass-players like me to see that even the best screw up sometimes. Awesome sporty bass. I love the GT40's. For me the most beautiful sportscar ever designed. Stay safe and keep up the good work! Greez from The Netherlands.
This bassline is so beautiful it makes me really emotional! Thanks Lee!
My little girl loves this song. Thanks Lee.
Love watching Leland with his stories and hearing the ends and outs of music and his experiences. Thank you.
I say this with the upmost respect for Leland Sklar, J.R.R. Token, and both men's fantastic work:
Thank you for all that you've done and have shown me during these dark times. Thank you, Gandolf the Bassist!
THANKS VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THESE WONDERFUL AND AMAZING PIECES WITH US. CAN'T GET ENOUGH . JUST STARTED TO PLAY THE BASS AND JUST SEEING AND LISTENING TO YOUR WORK REALLY GIVES THAT EXTRA MOTIVATION AND INSPIRES ME TO PUSH MORE TO BE BETTER. MUCH APPRECIATED. ONE LOVE FROM GUYANA SOUTH AMERICA.
Thanks Leland. Your playing, stories and thoughts are a great comfort in these times. Big cyber hugs from Down Under.
That song was released during the happiest time in my life. Listening to it, the first verse, going into the chorus gave me goosebumps, and made me a little teary-eyed.I love the song, And Leland is the best!! Thank-you Mr. Sklar!
Sometime around '03 or '04 I slipped into Disney's "Tarzan" show at the Animal Kingdom. It was then that I fell in love with this song (performed live) with some of the very gifted Disney musicians. It was about then that I began to wonder why I was playing 6 and 12 string guitar when I was "hearing" bass. Shortly thereafter I bought a P bass and never looked back. 'Tis well to hear you play this song!
I believe this soundtrack was what made me want to be a musician, it's my first memory of feeling something I couldn't explain while listening to music. Son of Man specifically, to this day it's still emotional to me, and I'm now in my early 20s, so I haven't listened to it in years. Thank you for this.
verdean613 Same here, I was in elementary school when the music of Tarzan captivated me. We watched that movie many times in school. I never knew it was Phil Collins until many years later. I found the CD at a shop last year and keep it in my car to jam hard to it.
Awesome! I just play this one in a concert with full Orchestra at the very beginning of the year. Now that I watched you playing it I see I'd miss somethings in the bass line 😅 still... thanks a lot!
It's just impossible not to love this man. I'm so grateful for these videos Mr. Sklar!
It's interesting seeing an older musician use a fanned fret (personally don't dig them). Amazing playing and massive respect for your work from one bassist to another.
THE best bass, the best stories! Loving the learning...thank you!
The Gulf livery is iconic. Looks great on the bass!
I'm not even an essential worker, but I really enjoy the shout outs at the end of your videos.
What an honor to see and hear you play that! Didn't know you actually had a channel. All I can say is..... turn up that beautiful bass!
Thank-you for this ... needed it today, garbage day at work and this was very cathartic. Be well and stay safe!!
We’re not in complete lock down here in Sweden, but I still enjoy your videos! I’ve been a fan of yours since the 70-s, when your name kept popping up on the sleeves of the albums that we listned to again and again.
I am so happy to see you again ,God bless you Lee
epic history the Gulf Team has at LeMans and so many other places. Cool idea. Thanks for sharing all of these videos recently
Thank you Lee.
Today is our fifteenth wedding anniversary.
This song was our choice as first dance.
We then went to see you all in Phil's farewell concert in Glasgow.
Thank you.
Cliff and Roberta. x
I have to admit I am a Tele man and never thought much about the bass but now I am loving it!
Thanks you so much! This video helped me both as a human and as a musician
Thank you for making my heart smile! What a lovely song!!!!
Those passing notes are nothing short of Genius!!! I absolutely love your playing and never rush a note. Just laying it down as good as humanly possibe. Also a lot of amateur players could learn how important it is to lay it back and not rush or play on top by watching these video's. Blessings Brother!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your music with us
Hi Leland, I started watching your amazing posts three days ago,I put my Tele bass away many years ago and swore I was done with it, after the death of a dear friend and longtime bandmate.I just lost the heart for it. Today I got my bass out of the closet and cleaned it up.Thank you and God bless
Obviously inspired by a master and a truly nice guy
Thats powerful bruh. The power of music.
Love it, pure feeling
Good advise on staying safe. Good on you, and thanks for keeping us entertained during these times!
