A masterpiece. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched it. The scenery, the music, the close knit community, most of all the loving sisters made me feel so good when I watched it.
This has shown me a totally new side of Charles Dance, I just love his animated talking, he seems really interested, so different from most of his parts.
He has that evil quality about him and i remember him as a character actor because of his evil personna in most of his characters, I didn't know he directed but i have come to know all actor direct clearly some better than others.
I love this movie, the music especially, the violin solo, written by Nigel Hess & performed by Joshua Bell makes me cry every time I hear it. But Janet wasn't a spinster, she was married but her husband died or was lost in the First World War!
It is indeed truly unfair that many feel older/elderly people should never become attracted to someone younger than them, even significantly so. It is not age that matters, it is the mindset of the older and younger one, whether they match each other, whether the younger one can enjoy the things the older one does and vice versa. Or whether the younger one can be content with the older one not being able to do some things he/she can. The circumstances each person is in also is important.
No. Dench did not say she did not read the script. She only said she is known for not reading scripts and she admitted that fact. She also said it depended on the film and who asks her to be in it as to whether she does read the script or not.
Maggie Smith and Judi Dench... you can't get any better.
Marjoke van Tol I was the one that saw him first. Oh that's ridiculous. Lol💞

This film has been in my top 5 favourite movies of all time all these years. I was today years old when I realised Charles Dance directed this!!
I saw this and it was well done. The music was gorgeous, especially the theme ladies in Lavender played on violin by Joshua Bell it is so beautiful.
What a fascinating man. And what a film.

Such a sweet movie. And Judy Dench absolutely killed it. If you had one last chance at love, albeit ephemeral, will you not take it?
This is a lovely film.
Oh, how this interview makes me like Charles Dance.

Dench says she doesn't read scripts but Dance told Boyd she read the script and liked it. Why do actors lie so much?
It was just a little white one.
