Tywin Lannister is a brilliant actor, he also plays Charles Dance in real life!
hahaha:D
then who is he, mystery mystery
Robert R R Gaylord
Jaqen H'ghar i guess haha
Show Tywin > Book Tywin
Book Tywin = Tywin Lannister = A Douchebag
Show Tywin = *Charles Dance* = A Magnificent Bastard
*Charles Dance* > Tywin Lannister
Made my day xD
even when he's not acting he still scares the shit out of me and has that aura of authority over him.
Yes indeed. He has something called "Natural authority".
He is a total natural authority. He really is Tywin in a way. If we were in middle age and he was born into a rich family he could've easily become the next "Amschel Meyer Rothschild" on which the Lannisters are based off.
Oh I thought I was the only one. He’s like a really scary headmaster or grandfather. He honestly scares the shit outta me.
Very aristocratic.
Not at all. He’s a feeble old man. I’d make a bottom out of him ;)
Interviewer: "You are my favourite character."
Charles: "A Lion is not concerned about the opinions of sheep."
Interviewer: "But I said I liked your character best! My opinion is that you are the best character!"
Charles: "No! That is not an opinion! It is a fact!"
+Syncretic Views hahahaha,terrific !!!
take my upvote
You should be awarded with the Golden Award of Best UA-cam comment...
Why would the interviewer give their opinion the 2nd time when he just said he doesn't care?
Lmaoooo
charles dance's voice is a fucking symphony
Roose Bolton actor too
Wow he is Tywin in real life too, when he looks at the reporter it looks like he means business.
Tywin wasn't without good public relation skills too, y'know.
Karl Smit
No, Tywin is Charles Dance in real life lol.
@@dnbheaduk ahahhahaa
@@karlsmith6690 meaning???
This man's voice, it's like honey for the ears
When Tyron Lannister speaks on camera, a thousand women become instantly pregnant. 😂
Best actor on the show
Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz are two actors who I want to see play Bond villains in future Bond films.
ohmygodohmygod YES to both of them!!
He (Charles Dance) has actually been in a Bond film. He had one thing to say....
Peter Allen True but since the current Bond films are a rebooted continuity Dance could play the villain.
I'm not saying he can't be in another one, I'm just making people aware that he has been in one.
Charles Dance already played a bond villain henchman in For Your Eyes Only!
Tywin plays this "Charles Dance" quite well
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This guy is classy af, lol.
Im Glad Charles actually KNOWS his character.
He doesnt, he hasnt read the books.
@@princesurein7275 how hell would you know??
Even if it is true, he is talking about Tywin Lannister from the Show, not the books, so he definitely knows how his character thinks, and what he would do in certain situations, and how he is
So yea he does KNOWS his character
@@princesurein7275 He played the part too well to not understand the character he was playing.
@@mr.noride7226 he is the best possible tywin imo, but I wish he'd read the books.
Dance is as perfect for Tywin as Cranston is for Walter White.
Bastien Michaux Such an awesome actor. He has that swag of the Lannister. Ruthless and cold, proud and strategic.
yep
And he dies on the loo just like fooking Hank Scraeder.
Exactly, when he died, house lannister began to fall
Man...got myself a major man crush on Charles Dance...
He's alpha; man amongst men.
He can be my daddy 💦😂😂
Charles Dance is a wonder. They could hardly have found a better man to play a calculating and a ruthless lord like Tywin Lannister. I especially like the scene where he lectures his son while flaying a stag...
Tywin reminds me of Cardinal Richelieu of France, who was supposed to be the King's right-hand man, but in actuality, was the actual power behind the Bourbons during the French Wars of Religion and the Thirty Years' War. He did anything and everything to keep France as the dominant power in Europe and to break the power and the hold of the Hapsburg Empire in the European South.
Man, this is like really listening to Tywin talk about his friends and foes. He really has that charm both out in the series.
I will miss Charles Dance as Tywin. He is an amazing actor and played his part well. Farewell Mr. Dance aka Tywin.
Charles Dance should be a star wars Sith lord. please make it happen.
d Bennett He's actually be pretty good as Darth Tyrannus in a Jango Fett movie.
Tywin Lannister does do a great job of portraying the role of Charles Dance here.
I have to say, I have been enamored of Charles Dance since I first saw him as Lord Errol in White Mischief in 1988. When I saw in GoT S1 that he was Tywin Lannister, I literally jumped for joy!! What an amazing actor and his insights into the character are spot on!!!
Oh my god, I just love Charles Dance so much. Everytime I unexpectedly see him on a film or a tv show, I just scream. Like it happened while I was watching the 2014's Dracula Untold at the cinema, when I saw him at the end. Scared a lot of people tho
Charles Dance is so...wonderful.
The thing I love about GoT is that the characters are so complex and realistic, that there aren't truly any good or any evil characters. Every character has both moral and distasteful aspects about them.
Except for Joffrey. Joffrey's a wee prick.
Joffrey's actor is I think the smartest of them all great man search for him !
I know, he's a really nice guy IRL. I've seen interviews and talks from him.
Dunno, despite having these grey characters, there are clearly evil & good guys.
Mainly bad guy list consists Joffery (ofc), Boltons, Mountain, Tywin, Littlefinger.
And good guys are guys like Ned, Robb, Jon, Davos
***** No, no, no. I disagree.
Tywin: Starts wars and kills other families by any means necessary to protect his own family and name.
Littlefinger: He stabs people in the back and deceives people, but he saved Sansa from her tormented life in King's Landing *and* her Aunt Lyssa.. The act of a hero, I'd say.
Davos: He has betrayed his 'King' before. He is loyal, yes, and only done what was right, but betrayed him nonetheless.
I would go into the other characters you listed but the rest are all either too good or too evil, and I fear I might be nitpicking. As you can see, though, all of those characters there have both good and bad traits about them.
Battle Axe Films Yeah, Tywin is willing to do anything to protect his legacy. He is amoral in that regard. His actions are evil. What seals the deal is the truth what he did to Tyrion and Tysha.
Thx to Littlefinger war of the five kings started. He set things in motion poisoning Jon Arryn and sending that false letter framing Lannisters. Thats as chaotic as you can get. He also has obsession for Catelyn so its nervous that he starts to think Sansa as young Cat. So he is far from hero.
Davos betrayed who... mad king? Come on. Davos at the moment is the one who can be considered totally good guy and a moral compass for Stannis.
So yeah, even this series has good and evil guys. Some are fleshed out more, while others stay clearly in good / evil category. Not that is a bad thing, though.
Tywin! One of my favorites characters, Great actor!
He IS Tywin.
Great actor, Charles Dance. His character as Tywin as quite facinating, and he did a great job.
Charles Dance is a brilliant actor.
looking back at this interview, it was such a delight hearing charles dance say "shit".
The only Lannister's i like are Tywin and Tyrion. Tywin because he only wants the best for his legacy and house name. Tyrion because he is just awesome
Those two are my favorites but, if you don't like Jaime yet, you should, and you will.
well i just finished season 3 he got better but I'm still kind of indifferent to him
PHARAOH WANKA He is actually quite likable after his "incident." Afterwards he becomes one of my favorite characters in the books.
PHARAOH WANKA Kevan is a boss
Lancel Lannister is the best! "Lancel. Gods, what a stupid name. Lancel Lannister. Who named you, boy, some half-wit with a stutter?" - Best Dialogue by Robert.
I never though of Tywin as evil... I think he is just doing what is must be done for his family. while cercie in the other hand, well.. she is beyond evil.
Doing whatever you can for your family is not always morally right
Justin H
Tywin is not a fool, he knows where morals and honor get you... #nedstark
You win or you die in the game of thrones.
Thomas De Nil But Lhi Yen made the argument that Tywin is not evil because it was for his family. I made that the argument that immoral activity for your family does not equate to it being right. But Ned Stark was not a fool either. He knew where honor would get him, and he accepted it. #thenorthremembers
Better be a "evil" man than a idiot one.
Yet he treats his own family (Tyrion) like crap. At least Cersei loves her children. Joffrey, The Mountain, and Ramsay Snow are truly psychotic.
"It's a feudal society that he lives in, and he has to retain his position". That's a Tywin Lannister quote if I've ever seen one! Except for the third-person point of view ofcourse.
his role suits him perfectly
this guy is the ultimate ,archtypical english man
Interviewer: Is tywin evil or just doing was he has to do?
Charles Dance: a lion doesnt mind about the opinions of the sheep
Interviewer: but is he....
Charles Dance: you thing that microphone gives you power?
Interviewer: Tywin or Tyrion is better?
Charles Dance: I can have your head in a spike for that
Interviewer: understood, my lord
Haha I love your comment. Smart!
brilliant actor , very underrated
TYWIN YOUR MY HERO!!!!
YOU'RE*
yeah thanks i was really lazy
Np, my bro.
amazing actor :) perfect casting for the entire serie :)
This man is Fantastic!
one of the best actors in the series! his scenes - especially those with tyrion and arya WERE FANTASTIC! but i have to admit - almost EVERY actor in got is perfect for his role....
gandalf the weedzard ...except Kit & Emilia :/
Charles Dance reflects self confidence so that is why he is so good at playing a strong "personnage" like Tywin. Love his acting!
I love the way he looks out of his eyes, he is such a mystery man. Love him!
You're welcome to ATTEND the meetings, your grace
One of the most perfect castings in the history of cinema or television
I personally think that the GOT casting was absolutely amazing
he plays tywin so well, best actor on the show
tywin lannister and walter white would make good freinds ..
" i do it for the family " would be their motto
Youssef lannister Do you realize how awesome that crossover would be? I mean holy shit.
amen to that
Youssef lannister Dont forget about Dom Toretto "for the family!"
Nice, double meaning in there, too, because they both did it only for themselves.
Youssef lannister They both have retarded cripples as children.
Walter has Walter Jr. ,and Tywin has Jaime (cripple) and Cersei (retarded).
I miss Tywin
I actually think Tywin wasnt as smart has he thought he was...I mean the biggest flaw,...error he did was hating Tyrion because he blame him for the death of his wife.
He could have been a strong allay and a foundation for the family but he threw him aside.
slitor I totally agree with you. I even think that Tywin not recognising Arya Stark while she was right under his nose is quite typical of his character and a great addition in the show compared to the books.
He was also one of the only ones in Westeros who kept refusing to believe the Jaime / Cercei incest thing, and of course he keeps refusing to see Tyrions real qualities as a tactician and politician because of his hate for him.
slitor we all have our flaws. There's no perfect person.
slitor I don't think that is his lack of intellect. His problem with tywin is not that he isn't smart enough to rule but just based on personal issues. Now i think that is a flaw where he does do these things but i don't think it takes away from how intelligent and good he is at the game of thrones. He does seem to show he knows tyrion is smart so even through he hates him he does still know how good he is.
Femke van Drooge Also i think not noticing arya stark was not really that big of a deal. He would need to be suspicious that she was the stark girl to ever have a hope of knowing who she is. If he wasn't in the middle of a war and having someone killing people around him he may have worked it out but i doubt it. There would be thousands of daughters of nobility that would have the ability to read and not want to be know for who they are. Can't expect a guy to just jump straight to this one girl that he has no idea where she is. Even in this he still shows he picked up she was 2 good to be what she said she was.
I agree, it was absurdly stupid for him to lose such an asset.
I loved tywin since the beginning. Since that Mr first meeting with tyrion in the tent he seemed cunning and awesome
I been waiting new season so long. Now it's so close. Can't.. wait.. And great interview!
The character of Tywin Lannister portrayed in the show kind of reminds me of Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars...both are icy administrators of their domain, who command unquestioned authority....and even though they are technically both outranked by superiors(Tarkin by Vader, Tywin by Joeffrey), neither of them takes crap from anybody, they do what they have to do.
I'd like to say that more often than not, Tywin is simply pragmatic, and working within the rules of his existence in this setting....its respectable.
However, his open disdain, and almost outright hatred for his own son Tyrion makes him worthy of our contempt as viewers as much as respect. Very cool character.
If they ever do a reboot of A New Hope. Charles Dances would be perfectly cast for the role of Tarkin. At least in my opinion.
I applaud your Art, Mr Dance!
This interview is awesome. Thank you so much. It's great to see Charles Dance from this weekend as we went to Collectormania, but didn't see him because we met him at LFCC last year. I was Bobby Baratheon in the Iron Throne-Wheelchair
The interview was great, the interviewer also was cool, asked interresting questions and there was a good flow to the interview.
Charles Dance is also the voice of Emperor Emhyr in The Witcher 3, his voice commands so much authority, it's like he is born for those roles.
I can't escape the belief that Charles Dance is the son of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
4:29 Someone's definitely read the books.
I'd say more along the lines of Ian Richardson than Peter Cushing, but his voice certainly gets my attention in the same way as Lee's.
balrog13571 But Cushing and Lee spent a lot of time together, y'know. ;)
This is true.
This is weird seeing Tywin smile and laugh.
Charles Dance is just amazing ! :)
One of my favourites! Love the scenes with the small council, with Tyrion, Joffrey and Tywin going at it.
Such a good actor. Too bad we won't see anymore of him.
i always like wheni see him on the show
Always good to hear from Tywin Lanister.
The thumbnail of him smiling genuinely scared me
"She's trying to be.." *slow claps it out* Zing, my friend.
I love how he said 'if he's still alive' about Joffrey in this interview.
This man is STILL in character during this interview.....awesome!
this guy reminds me of Saruman. I think he could play Saruman
Mr. Dance said "The character [Arya} is very very clever." Meaning he thinks Masie herself isn't as smart/clever as Arya? He was clearly pressing on how much he liked Arya's character.
No, I don't think he meant that interpretation. He's told us how brilliantly he thinks Maisie plays Arya. And if you're in any doubt what an incredibly smart (and lovely) cookie Maisie is, then you just need to watch our interview with her: Game of Thrones Maisie Williams Interview - Arya Stark & Up On The Roof :-)
*****
Oh no my dear, I do know how awesome and witty sweet Masie is. I just thought to point out how Mr. Dance was emphasizing on how clever *Arya* is. All in all, I don't mean it so serious tho XD
gretjoz haha, good to hear! :-D
Well don't you think Arya is more clever than Maise? It's not an insult to her I'm sure she knows it herself. Like Peter Dinklage says it's fun to play someone smarter than himself.
***** I wouldn't be so sure, my cousin knew her before she got into GoT, either she's changed a lot or we don't see what she's truly like.
how relieving to see that guy smile
Great interview thank you.
BOOK SPOILERS BELOW
I thank you kind sir.
thanks mate
Such a NAAASTY piece of work
I love this old man, I'll follow him.
amazing actor :)
I didnt love him in the books..... but in the show... Just great acting.
I can't help but think he's a bit annoyed with the interviewer...
He is in-character all the time. Theres no difference between the two :)
I think that's just his face, which is why he always plays dark, evil characters. I think her questions are actually decent, compared to some of the crap interviewers spurt at these events. She's done her homework, which interviewees appreciate. Also, he may have been there hours and questioned by about 40 people :-)
Even listening makes me annoyed with the interviewer. 'Who's not as smart as they think they are?' Stupid question. 'Who's better at the game of thrones?' She's asking about scenes and asking stupid questions when she can read the book (She is an interviewer reporting game of thrones. SHE SHOULD BE READING IT)
I know I was. The questions were pretty poor.
Every interview from him is like that, LOL.
Charles Dance is awesome. I love how much he defends Tywin, and he really seems to love playing a character in such a high position on the show.
This man has truly been gifted with a marvelous voice
This guy would have made an EXCELLENT grand moff Tarkin
He will always be Sardo Numspa to me...
This is amazing with subtitles.
He's an amazing actor. It's sad that we don't see him often in other works.
It's intresting to find out, that hes in RL almost exactly the same charakter as in the show, except that he smiles more often and maybe doesn't kill so many people. :D
Horses and Actors more similarities than we think.
I wish with everything in my body that this man could narrate my life as i live it, i would never ever be sad or bored.
Magnificent voice.
She's not gonna get the better of him, Tyrion is.
It turns out Tywin doesn't shit gold.
Lord Tywin is going to be in a really humiliating situation next season. I'm afraid the show will ruin it because Dance is such a well respected actor who they wouldn't put through something like that.
Yeah but anyone who starred in Last Action Hero with a false exploding eye and a pyramid of performing dobermans wouldn't mind being filmed, shall we say, in a compromising position :-)
Have you ever seen Charles Dance in Ali G in Da House? You should UA-cam it.
A fan told CD how he dies on one of he premiers, and he loved the idea, he calls it a fitting end!
The_Howler Fitting end indeed! Do you have a link about that?

They couldn’t have cast better for Tywin Lannister! I love Charles Dance!
Every production is simply that much better with Charles Dance in it.
"Explain to me why it is more noble to kill 10,000 men in battle than a dozen at dinner."
He may be ruthless but he's just doing it for his family and his family's honour, much the same as Ned, however Ned had limits and was too caught up on doing the "right" thing.
Charles Dance reading Fifty Shades of Grey was bloody brilliant.
he's such a good actor and is very charismatic. love his voice too
Absolutely fantastic character and actor.
One of the best voices I have ever heard
For someone who hasn't read the books, Charles Dance really understands the character of Tywin and it's obvious he enjoys playing the role.
LOVE this man he's so great
Excellent interview questions, well done.
That voice is just... Awesome
I love the way he talks
It's so cute seeing him smile eventually
I miss him a lot. He was my favourite character in the show, he still is in some ways though I’m also a fan of Liam Cunningham and Nikolaj’s performances.
Tywin lannister is my favorite character. Such a strong personality that would scare off anyone.
