yo that's a dope opinion separation is alright as long as it is considered one dance and their should be no power heads or style heads just bboys be good at all aspects of it
Tons of thanks for this interview, and I feel a lot of it. Definitely think we should get off Y not's shit, but I don't think he's the owner of killing every beat, because as dancers, the beat is the public domain. If you do it in a different style, you might open new avenues for new bboys. Still, Ness's idea of the "bboying approach" is really high-concept and interesting to consider. It's incredibly hard to define, but by trying, we might get a better sense of what we want to do and be. Peace.
first things first identify the BBoy attitude and know the BBoy energy...and putting influences in BBoy perspective... its all universal through interpretive narratives like telling a story.
Shit, wtf. everything he said is contradiction. First he said don't lock on top rock. the next minute he said he use houseing on top rock. Then he talk about top rock battle, but then he said the hell with top rock battle. wtf ness.
Everybody has a different opinion of what toprock is. Personally I think we should let people dance the way they want to, cause at the end of the day this is Hip Hop which is all about creativity. BUT, like AlienNess said using the bboy approach....Otherwise is not bboying.
I'm still a bit confused; is it "anything goes as long as it's bboy style" or "there's certain criteria to be considered bboying". Is the latter point mainly for judging competitions?
he's sayin whenever there's judges, its not really bboying, it's a sort-of, hybrid. But, if you are in a judged competition, you gotta represent certain moves that represent your knowledge of the history, otherwise you're not gonna really make much of a statement and not really move onto the next round. And he's sayin that you can morph anything into a bboy move, but it's gotta be done with that BBoy flava, that finesse, that character...you gotta study more history of breakin and of other dance styles to really get a grip on what he's sayin here. I get what he's sayin because i love to mix breakin with other styles, but in the end, you gotta morph it into something completely original, something i haven't yet accomplished.
i don't think he's saying stop dancing to the little nuances in the music because Ynot does that. I would hate for someone to start doing that and then people start calling him out for biting. I wish bboys used more musicality in their dancing in general, and I hope bboying evolves more towards this direction. and I'm ok calling it something else besides toprock
I feel as if top rock should be a freer concept, being able to incorporate elements of other styles. I feel as if top rock should be something with no criteria or no limits or else it'll get stale.
Not gonna lie, he didn't really explain this effectively/clearly. After thinking about it I understand what he's saying but he kinda confused me in the process of watching the video...
I don't like it when someone who doesn't know the first thing about me, tells me im imitating someone like as if that dancer was the one to create the moves or style we're talking about. maybe some of the younger kids or beginner bboys might give credit to that, but im not buyin it
Hey Johnny, thanks for showing up for my TikTok live bro . This is cool stuff bro. LA in the House lol peace brother
Keebz in my opinion has some of the best toprock I have ever seen. Always on beat and always clean, but I have never seen him in a toprock battle.

AlienNess keeping it real still.

i love how he says don't use other styles etc because that's not top rocking then he talks about how he uses house dancing just with a bboy approach.
Shit, wtf. everything he said is contradiction. First he said don't lock on top rock. the next minute he said he use houseing on top rock. Then he talk about top rock battle, but then he said the hell with top rock battle. wtf ness.
