It'd be unintuitive at first, but you could probably set something up through steam input so that each controller button is bound to a number. Might work for this

Started playing this a while ago, and I gotta say, even Bannerlord could learn a thing or two from this.

Don't forget; the dev is very active in adding content, so when you feel like you've seen everything, a new update might've just been released.
