    Another great start to a build I like the way you describe what you are doing leaving very little guess work . I recently completed some good and solid mosaic Damascus with a twisted Damascus edge bar this would not have been possible for me without the content of your channel . Thankyou .Looking forward to the completion of this one

    I liked that you mentioned easing down to your stock on the surface grinder. Everytime i see Shurap just place the material down onto the magnet and immediately run it under the wheel, it scares me. Of course I'm used to a stone and not a belt, but it still freaks me out.

      He may be doing stuff like setting it all up and finding the surface off camera… since I want to be fully instructive, I think it’s good to show the whole method at times.

      I would hope that's the case, but it's setting a bad example for potential newbies, and I'm not a safety Sally. Lathe Chuck wrenches left in is the same for me, probably because of how I was taught over 45 years ago. I've been known to keep a hand on my Chuck wrench and lead off like a base runner to grab something in reach in my own shop with zero distractions. I occasionally used a lathe at a friend's shop that had a headstock mounted chuck wrench holder that held them vertically just behind the chuck. Terrible idea in my opinion.

    Great seeing you doing a build video again.
    Two questions.
    First: do you bother calculating the additional thickness of nickel shim in making say a Go-Mai?
    Second: any reason you did a MIG weld instead of a fuse TIG weld?

    • @PrometheanBlade
      @PrometheanBlade  6 місяців тому +2

      Great question. Yes I’d absolutely calculate the added thickness for go mai, depending on the relative dimensions of everything and how I want the various layers to present on the finished bevels.
      As for mig here? It’s faster and I’ll just be grinding the edges back a fair bit anyway. It’s not as critical as say an added bolster where I can’t distort or grind it much during processing.
