All of the reviews that I've seen for this vehicle have the paint speckling on the tires including "Sideshow's First Look" video. So it's meant to have that as a weathered effect look. As for the tires sticking out while in ground mode, you gotta make sure they're tucked in ALL THE WAY. Same goes for when you're turning them in for hover mode. You gotta make sure they're pulled out ALL THE WAY until you hear 2 clicks, then they won't rub up against the fenders.
Thanks for the info. I am hearing differing things about the paint spatter but I went back to that Sideshow First Look video and studied it. It was barely noticeable but you are correct, the spatter exists on the tires there for sure. Not sure about the underbody because the lighting in the video hides it -- but one can deduce that this was intentional, and is some form of weathering -- albeit not pulled off very well...
I like the weathered look, but I can see why people might not. It should’ve been something that was an add on or something people would mod. It isn’t visible in the promotional videos, but I found the rust on the exhaust odd since there were no signs of weathering elsewhere. I think the weathering will be cool. Still waiting on mine!
Great video. Thank you for the video, but the 1st issue is really a non-issue to me. The Delorean MK2 is exactly the same as the first with only the hover mode and Mr. Fusion. Just as it is in the Movie. It's virtually the same car! The silver over spray on the bottom and tires kind of sucks. I would definitely have a problem with that! Mine comes in on Tuesday. We'll see when it comes in if it's the same. Thanks again for posting.
Yeah, that was a pretty lame complaint. I have both and the fact that they added so much more illumination to the interior make this version SO much better.
Looks like Adam Savage's Mark 2 model also has the speckling on the tires. No closeup shots of the underside so couldn't confirm that. If we're talking screen accuracy, the lights should not illuminate on top of the wheels in hover mode. They should have painted the other side black to block the light. It should only illuminate through the outer side of the wheels.
Thanks for the info on Adam Savage's review. I still need to watch it. At least I am not alone! And yes the bleed through wheels is not screen accurate but check out my ULTAIMET revoiew unboxing video coming tonight! (Currently uploading 4K and taking forever). I explain why I am okay with the bleed through, once you see it you'll know what I mean, hard to explain in mere words...
For those that missed out on #1 the issues presented are very minor. My mark 2 does have the white specks on the tires. I am a bit nervous with the base so I chose to display it laying flat until I can find an alternative. The shipping box was a disappoint. They should have placed that inside another shipping box. Thanks for the video!
I disagree. #1 is the biggest issue because Hot Toys had a chance to fix the inaccuracies of the Mark 1 but chose not to (with the exception of the bumper color but that was a must fix). Things like the tail lights and bumper logo are accurate on the Eaglemoss model, but STILL inaccurate on the Mark 2 and are a carbon copy of the Mark 1!
The speckling is dirt and mud the second movie starts in the rain the stuff on tires and bottom simulates mud and rain speckling on the tires and bottom of the car remember it’s suppose to be from the movie a replica of the car I am pretty pleased with the car personally
Just received my Delorean today. Not set up for making You tube videos yet, in the process of moving. In any case., Looks awesome but it did arrive with the passenger seat loose. Scuffed the windows inside a bit but I waxed the scuff marks out. Looks awesome! I did have some overspray on the tires. Hardly any overspray under the bottom and all the tires are bright when lit up. Very happy though.
They all have that “weathering” on the tires and underside mine has it as well. Mine came with a broken side mirror and paint touch up from the factory by the driver key hole. Also one of the front bumper clips broke even though I was being super careful. This car is very fragile. I still think it looks so awesome though.
Thanks for confirming. I have now accepted that as fact and included it in my Mark 1 vs Mark 2 comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/MiwRfkeFZIk/v-deo.html
Just received mine and had no problems with any of the installations nor the tire inset issue. Maybe they got the feedback and made some adjustments. So yeah no probs here.
I’m having a hard time buying the weathering reason for the overspray. Seems odd to think that someone would have had the idea “you know what this car’s missing? Speckles on the tires!” 😂 “For accuracy”
As far as I know, every unboxing video including the official one from Sideshow Collectibles shows the speckles on the tires and the undercarriage. As other collectors here on YT state, the speckles are meant to simulate dirt and grime to make it seem more realistic as a car. That makes sense, although I could see why it would bother some collectors who would've liked it to be clean. Not sure how it looks on the Mark 1 as I don't own that one.
Thanks for further clarifying this. I feel better now knowing it's not a defect, but at the same time it simply doesn't look right. Going back to the movies, the BTTF 2 car didn't have a bunch of spatter all over the Goodyear tires. Speaking of which if Hot Toys wanted to give us movie accurate they should have given us the whitewall Goodyears instead of the non-screen accurate Mark 1 tires with spatter. Eaglemoss pulled that off so it shouldn't have been an issue for Hot Toys, which is a bigger company (and still exists!). As for the Mark 1 car, the tires and underbody are both clean. I'll do a side by side on both cars this week. Stay tuned!
@@DeLoreanTECH that’s a good point regarding the movie accuracy of the tires. Also, it seems wierd they would put dirt splatter on the mark 2 considering it’s the one that hovers but not on the mark 1 which is the one that actually drives on the roads. If it is a defect, that would be a major screw up on their part considering I’ve yet to see one without the paint splatter.
@@DeLoreanTECH I think on having "Goodyear Tire" brand marking on the tire wall is all based on paying licensing fees to just get it on there. Eaglemoss might have paid licensing to get the "Goodyear" branding on it(?) to make it screen accurate or how tire branding is for the tire used for DeLorean. If you ever own Hot Toys 1/6th scale figure of BTTF2 Marty, the Nike Mag/jacket carrying tube case like in the movie and the Nike Mag auto lacing sneaker doesn't have "Nike" & the swoosh branding on it so to avoid lawsuit and usage without paying licensing fees. Also same goes with Hot Toys BTTF1 Marty's Nike Bruin sneaker has no Nike swoosh too. Plus Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Hot Toys release, the lookalike pair of Air Jordan 1 sneaker on Miles Morales figure doesn't have the swoosh either and to avoid copyright lawsuit/paying licensing fees to use. If Hot Toys can go all out and just pay the licensing fees, it will make everything they intend to make to be more screen/life like accurate, than just half done accuracy for half complete nostalgic sakes.

I agree about it being the same but honestly it’s the same car in both movies besides Mr Fusion and the wheels flipping down. I have the same silver paint speckles and also under the car. My only guess is maybe the were tying to weather it with dried rain spots??? No idea I don’t like it at all.
Agreed- same EXACT car in all 3 movies, the A-Car and one of 7 used. However i was hoping for significant differences in the way of screen accuracy as opposed to the exact same model with modifications. Like maybe something completely re-engineered but I guess that’s asking for too much…

Apparently EVERYONE has those silver paint specs so I’m assuming it is indeed a very sorry attempt at weathering. It does not look like weathering at all looks like a defect no matter what they were going for.
The fact that this looks like the first car is what you'd expect. It's the same car!! Just like in the movie they just added the "future" modifications. The wheels have to be pulled out ALL the way. Even after the second "click" they come out even farther and that allows the tires to flip up properly. You have to pull them completely out. The speckles on the tires and underside of the car is weathering. It's done to make it look dirty. As for the tires sticking out, I'm guessing 99% of people buying this are going to display it in hover mode since that is the main appeal of this version over the original version.
Thanks for reporting back in on the wheels. I feels like days later that rear wheel joint loosened up a bit. I didn’t want to force it but it felt like it was extended to the max. It doesn’t take much effort to break the wheel extension mechanism as poor Danoby found out in his unboxing.
@@DeLoreanTECH Yes I saw his video. But he was being pretty rough with them so I'm not completely surprised that he broke his wheels. Gripe 1 is tough because yes it’s not to different if you have the mk1, but it does allow for those who missed out on the mk1 to get a Delorean for a reasonable price. The paint flecks on the tires and bottom seem to be intentional, being some “hover weathering”. The shipping box may be just an attempt and reducing waste which also saves them money. Probably a victim of “going more green”. Idk 🤷♂️
Good point about the going more green. I hadn't thought of that but it seems plausible. For the Mark 1 most probably keep the art box stored in the shipper, from which you can only see the top of it when opened unless you pull the whole thing out. Hence why they made that inner art piece on top of the styrafoam for the Mark 2...
Your first point was the main reason why I decided against getting the Mark 2. It pretty much looked like the Mark 1 and I actually like the original better.
Great video -- much appreciated going over these issues before we plunk down our hard earned cash! I still want one but cannot afford it! More power to you guys who can.
@@xenokon9335 Even though the vehicle could hover, it still had the capability to drive on roads as well. Although it probably spent much less time on the road, it could still be assumed there were instances were it was driven there as well
I just got mine last week and I automatically noticed the difference in brightness between your front and back wheels. That's a big difference in brightness compared to my order. I have slight paint speckle on the wheels, but a completely clean undercarriage. That overspray underneath is insane and I would definitely contact customer service.
@DeLoreanTECH hey after careful inspection again I do have to say there is some grit on the bottom, but barely noticeable. Tires are definitely less speckle and light on back tire seems ok. Had to correct myself about that bottom grit tho
It does! See my full unboxing video for close ups in the dark. ua-cam.com/video/CfCZ1M_wG-I/v-deo.html It looks amazing. Definitely one of the improvements I plan to highlight in my upcoming comparison video against the Mark 1
I checked and yes totally too short but this was also the case on the Mark 1 -- again, same exact model just tweaked the wheel design for hover mode and added Mr. Fusion, more LEDs and fixed fascia paint!
That’s DEF a defect. I watched other unboxings and nobody else has those specs like that on the tires and under carriage. I’d def return for another one.
Thanks! I am hearing different things, like Adam Savage's review had them but I still have to watch that. I did comment directly to Hot Toys when they dropped their video featuring a spatter-free Mark 2 (tires and underbody). Hopefully they respond.
Mark 1 is still a great model and i almost feel like prices will hold and go back up to where they were before they announced Mark 2 because of that greatness
Yous should say 1ST issue - The figure ars too tall for the delorean, the seat are glued to the floor without pedals.... that shoud be a major issue IMO
I think Hot Toys was just taking a shortcut trying to produce this ASAP considering that JAZZINK announced that they're going to make the BTTF 2 DeLorean. Got mine is coming in by Sideshow next month. I have the mark 1, So was looking forward to this but if Jazzink does make the mark 2 I'm sure they'll try not to make the same mistakes.
Man, all the problems on this model for the price is just insane. $800 for this thing you shouldn't have to worry about customizing it to fix problems... It may be a few scales smaller and not have the hover mode lights but I'll stick with the Diamond Select BTTF II Delorean- not that it's also without flaws; you have to buy a set of decals if you want DMC and Goodyear Eagle GT logos.
Yes but Hot Toys was good about the replacement. And to be honest I have only displayed the car in hovermode. I haven't messed with it all all since making these videos. So far it has held up and I am glad I got it.
I keep asking why on earth for $899 would the replica not include the lights that really matter? The Flux Rails. You know, the front and rear rails which also wrap around over the top rear of the car. They glow bright blue when the car is about to break through time and space. They are lights that made the car so cool, and yet at $1,000, the flux rails do not replicate this critical feature. Why?
That's basically my Issue #1 (gripe). It's a fancy re-issue of the Mark 1. Do I still like it yes, but so many missed opportunities like the lit flux bands to set it apart. I suppose at the price point they wanted such stuff was not possible.
For the price of the model, do you feel the Flux bands should illuminate? The inability to turn on a light for the Flux Bands is absolutely the biggest holdout for me.
RIght. I am starting to suspect the prices for the Mark 1 will actually go back up given the imperfections on the Mark 2, it's higher availability, and the fact that the Mark 1 represents more of a "hero" version of the two models, whereas the Mark 2 is a "weathered" (and not very well done) version.
They could have fixed all of the inaccuracies though but they didn’t. For example the rear bumper logo and dark tail lights. Also could have went with the soft white headlight LEDs for more screen accuracy. Too many of the design flaws from Mark 1 carried over to the Mark 2. At least they fixed the fascias…
Why would it be a completely different model from the first? It's the same car with some minor changes between the movies. A really weird thing to say is an "issue"
They used the same model with the same inaccuracies as the first. For example the dark tail lights and incorrect bumper logo. Same inaccurate hood design. And a lot more. All they fixed was the fascias. That’s what i meant. The Eaglemoss was more accurate in many regards. Hot Toys had a chance to give us more screen accuracy but instead just re-released the first model with the hovermode mod, more LEDs, and Mr Fusion. Was hoping for something more for $900+ If you have both models it literally is a copy+paste+a few mods+1 correction of the Mark 1
The speckled paint looks like an attempt to make the car look dirty like it’s been out on a big adventure. I hope the third car comes out more dirty like the Wild West.
I've preordered mine, but I was told the release has been delayed to May-Aug 2023 because of QC issue. Anyone know if it's related to all issues mentioned in this video?

Hello, I liked your video so you earned my like, I need help, how can I remove the mud (paint) from the tires and make them look new? HOT TOYS always makes mistakes and we collectors suffer from their mistakes!!
I have not tried but I heard that acetone might work to get it off? Maybe try it on an inconspicuous area like on the backside of the tire instead of the front. I think the tires can also be removed from the wheel in case you want to keep the model safe from a mishap (I think in one of Danoby's videos he removed the tires to do his bleed-through/LED mod...
Got one of the first batch from sideshow earlier this year and I just noticed that one of the green flight mode lights (front passenger undercarriage) is super dim and flickers sometimes. I know it wasn't like that out of the box. Everything except fitting the front flux band worked great. If anyone has a solution to wiring/lighting issues that'd be great thanks.
When Doc rolled up to Marty's at the end of Part 1 the car looked a bit weathered but the tires in Part 2 clearly showed the Goodyear Eagle white sidewall lettering and no "mud" or whatever they were going for. Even the underbody of my DeLorean with nearly 100,000 miles does not look like that!
Perhaps you should watch the first film again. Both DeLoreans are exactly the same except for the parts added on the new model. What are you expecting a Lamborghini?
I just got mine and everything seems to be fine with mine, I don't really care that there is no box I actually like that there are like 2 big photos I can frame them and display them on my wall, if it was a photo on a box I would need more room for the box the photos are beautiful and a good idea, as far as the paint ot doesn't really bother me, I guess it's a bad attempt of weathering but I can live with it, u complain that it is the same as the first one, of course it is exactly the same with a few modification jut like in the movie,
Ah that dose not bode well if my model is damaged on arrival I’ll be expecting compensation that’s terrible the shipper is the box what were they thinking
Yes it likely will be "damaged" to a degree. Mine had dented corners but no gouges in the cardboard. Also the mailing label is difficult to remove -- I recommend using a heat gun and peel it off that way! But keep the heat on low to start
So I hope everyone knows that, that speckle/dirt application under the car and on the tires is on purpose. The reason it to make the car look more weathered a bit. Especially under the car because no car underneath is clean.
Thanks for clarifying! "Weather" we like it or not (pun intended) -- it is what it is, and is confirmed to not be a defect. I would prefer a "clean" model. If they were going to do weathering it should have been thought out and perhaps do a nice 10-foot weathering treatment on it to get the effect they were going for. It came out awful.
@@DeLoreanTECH I remember when photos came out showing the wheels in the wrong position in hover mode, people complained enough to where Hot Toys listened and corrected the issue. Had we known about the speckles on the wheels and undercarriage, I feel like enough people would’ve complained to have them remove those as well. I can already see collectors everywhere pointing the issue out in their unboxing videos.
This isn’t a “problem” per se, but I was disappointed to see the Flux Capacitor labels aren’t screen accurate. They look like they’re written in Arial but the real labels would have been from one of those old school label makers that pushed the characters into the plastic to make white letters. The labels on this look inaccurate and cheap.
For sure. Mine had dented corners but was mostly "okay" for a shipper. I think after days of owning this my biggest gripe is now becoming the inconsistent brightness of the LEDs in the front and rear wheels. I wonder if using the USB cable for power would help...
@DeLoreanTECH I saw the Star Wars Replicas channels unboxing. His seemed to be the same brightness all the way around. Maybe a wiring issue. Consider exchanging it. That would bother me too.

Your first point was the main reason why I decided against getting the Mark 2. It pretty much looked like the Mark 1 and I actually like the original better.
I still like the original myself, but I sorta have to give it to the Mark 2 because the Part 2 car was my favorite. That said I am glad I have both.
@@DeLoreanTECH fair enough
Great video -- much appreciated going over these issues before we plunk down our hard earned cash! I still want one but cannot afford it! More power to you guys who can.
No problem and thanks for watching
the "white specks" is road dirt isn't it? Part of the weathering which makes it more realistic.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads... so why would it be road dirt???
@@xenokon9335 Even though the vehicle could hover, it still had the capability to drive on roads as well. Although it probably spent much less time on the road, it could still be assumed there were instances were it was driven there as well
@@JohnnyBorja86 Others are saying the spatter on the tires and underbody is a defect while some say it isn't. Waiting for Hot Toys to confirm!
I just got mine last week and I automatically noticed the difference in brightness between your front and back wheels. That's a big difference in brightness compared to my order. I have slight paint speckle on the wheels, but a completely clean undercarriage. That overspray underneath is insane and I would definitely contact customer service.
This is good to know...perhaps it was just mine and if I choose to return for a replacement the new one won't have it...
@DeLoreanTECH hey after careful inspection again I do have to say there is some grit on the bottom, but barely noticeable. Tires are definitely less speckle and light on back tire seems ok. Had to correct myself about that bottom grit tho
What bugs me most is that the manual implies that the power button has a physical 0/1/2 position, while it's just a clicker button
right -- it's a momentary switch. Needs to be a latching switch.
I have the first one and I hated how the dash didn't light up. This one does as far as I know.
It does! See my full unboxing video for close ups in the dark. ua-cam.com/video/CfCZ1M_wG-I/v-deo.html It looks amazing. Definitely one of the improvements I plan to highlight in my upcoming comparison video against the Mark 1
Is it me, or do the hood grooves seem too short at the front?
Thanks for pointing that out. I will address that in my Mark 1 vs Mark 2 video...I assume they are the same but we'll see
I checked and yes totally too short but this was also the case on the Mark 1 -- again, same exact model just tweaked the wheel design for hover mode and added Mr.
I'm still getting it. Just as soon as I get $900 together.
Tires are also missing the Goodyear Eagle GT lettering. Hot Wheels got that right on their Elite series.
Indeed, so did Eaglemoss, but Hot Toys didn't get the license to do that....
I keep my mark 1 without regrets.
Buen video, al parecer si tienes problemas con las luces de las llantas traseras y las luces de las turbinas, no se encienden bien.
Estoy de acuerdo. Voy a notificar a Sideshow del problema. Incluso podría hacer un video al respecto.
Just received mine today. All my tires are speckled with paint like yours.
Thanks for confirming!
I wasn’t aware of this so thanks for the info!
My hot wheels bttf2 1/18 ultimate edition glows the blue light in the bumpers, and Coust much less.
On mine, both corners on the hood by the wipers does not sit flush....yours has the same issue. So I'm ok with it. Not too noticeable anyway.
it's like a real DeLorean in that regard!
@@DeLoreanTECH really?
Im thinking of buying this when sideshow re-stocks it! I Dont like the stand. It should be able to angled any direction
I don't like the stand either. Check out my display stand HACK video to change it: ua-cam.com/video/hKRE1pK_r4Y/v-deo.html
For the price of the model, do you feel the Flux bands should illuminate? The inability to turn on a light for the Flux Bands is absolutely the biggest holdout for me.
Yes they should! Another missed opprtunity
Personally I’d rather have the Mark 1 but I went with the Mark 2 since it’s obviously cheaper
RIght. I am starting to suspect the prices for the Mark 1 will actually go back up given the imperfections on the Mark 2, it's higher availability, and the fact that the Mark 1 represents more of a "hero" version of the two models, whereas the Mark 2 is a "weathered" (and not very well done) version.
Issue #1 is not really an issue.
They're the same model indeed
I hope the third car comes out more dirty like the Wild West.
same here!
I have fitment issues. Blotchy hood coloring.
Sorry to hear…
Do you know if with a box of this size can I ship it using USPS Priority Mail International?
It might be too big for USPS. I’d go with UPS
Does the gap in the hood in front bother you?
You can actually push in down and shirnk the "gap"
Do these go up in value in a few years?
I've preordered mine, but I was told the release has been delayed to May-Aug 2023 because of QC issue. Anyone know if it's related to all issues mentioned in this video?
I would say it has to be...
But it would be the same model. Doc didint buy more than one dolorean. I don't understand what you thinking ??

Hello, I liked your video so you earned my like, I need help, how can I remove the mud (paint) from the tires and make them look new?
HOT TOYS always makes mistakes and we collectors suffer from their mistakes!!
I have not tried but I heard that acetone might work to get it off? Maybe try it on an inconspicuous area like on the backside of the tire instead of the front. I think the tires can also be removed from the wheel in case you want to keep the model safe from a mishap (I think in one of Danoby's videos he removed the tires to do his bleed-through/LED mod...
@@DeLoreanTECH Thank you very much and greetings from Chile!! Take care!!
Almost all issues are really no issues....
Sorry to hear!
The front flux band I had to carve out a chunk so I can fit the pins without breaking them
sorry to hear! Yes they were a pain
@@DeLoreanTECH I used a small knife and it was just a few millimetres so it’s barely noticeable thank God.
Think the paint splatter is there idea of weathering road grime after rain
Indeed! Poorly executed
Mine also has tge speckles on the bottom and the tyres it looks like weathering to me so looks like its been to 1955 and 1985 then 2015
When Doc rolled up to Marty's at the end of Part 1 the car looked a bit weathered but the tires in Part 2 clearly showed the Goodyear Eagle white sidewall lettering and no "mud" or whatever they were going for. Even the underbody of my DeLorean with nearly 100,000 miles does not look like that!
Thanks for the video and tips HT should knw we expect better.
You bet
All the tires are made that way on older deloreans, mark 2.
Perhaps you should watch the first film again.
Both DeLoreans are exactly the same except for the parts added on the new model.
What are you expecting a Lamborghini?
“its a copy and paste of the mark one” well yeah, thats kinda the whole point
I just got mine and everything seems to be fine with mine, I don't really care that there is no box I actually like that there are like 2 big photos I can frame them and display them on my wall, if it was a photo on a box I would need more room for the box the photos are beautiful and a good idea, as far as the paint ot doesn't really bother me, I guess it's a bad attempt of weathering but I can live with it, u complain that it is the same as the first one, of course it is exactly the same with a few modification jut like in the movie,
Thanks for checking in and glad you are enjoying your model!
@@DeLoreanTECH Thanks for the advice
That would be cool if it looked like weathering but it just looks alike a defect. Horrible weathering job
@@ghostbusterspluscollector9624 they were like “just throw some paint splatter on it, they won’t know the difference” 😂
Id sitll be happy to have it. sadly its too rich for my blood :(
This isn’t a “problem” per se, but I was disappointed to see the Flux Capacitor labels aren’t screen accurate. They look like they’re written in Arial but the real labels would have been from one of those old school label makers that pushed the characters into the plastic to make white letters. The labels on this look inaccurate and cheap.
I'm bummed about the shipper. Should have had a double box option to protect it. Gets beat up in transit.
I feel bad for Danobi two broken wheels .
Totally. It was obvious the car had issues out of the box with the rolling resistance
@@DeLoreanTECH I'm am now on your page my left wheel light is completely out and I don't want to send it back aaarrr .
Those are no really problems. What do you expect? A flying Volswagen Bettle?
😂😂😂
That's over spray everywhere.
Indeed and it can’t be removed without damaging the finish
Just being over pickyness on your part& nothing more? People who purchase something always find something complain, guanteed?.
For the price i paid I expected no issues. Sideshow agreed and sent me a new one
look toy
Hot Toys a shadow of their former selves
More $ and less quality or accessories pathetic
I still like the model but they did rush it. I am returning mine for a replacement!
