I love Alphaville, their first album is overall a great album. Forever Young, The Jet Set, To Germany With Love, Victory of Love are all great from the album. "Dance With Me" from the 2nd album is also a fave. Their biggest song is Forever Young, used in movies and etc.. but they never were a chart topper here in the US, but is known by fans of Depeche mode and etc.
Oh man, u should listen to the album version or maybe the extended version of this song! The synths and strings at the end of the song are just amazing

This version is in fact cut short for the video, the real song goes on and builds up and up and up. The end is the best about the whole song! Great band!

Their debut album Forever Young (which includes the tracks you've reacted to) was the best synthpop album ever IMHO. Listen to it from start to finish, as the tracks follow each other. The opening track Victory of Love sets the stage for a dreamy synth ride from start to finish, and Marion's vocals were... Gold!
To really get a perspective of his vocal range "A victory of love" is the song to listen to next....also that is my favorite of theirs!
Fallen Angel from the same album is also amazing!
Alphaville is a brilliant band from the 80s and still active today. If you want to react to more of their music, Victory Of Love, Jet Set, To Germany with Love, Dance with me, Universal Daddy ,to name a few of their phenomenal music.
I love alphaville... I recommend you listen "forever young". It's a great ballad... (After the great success of the first album... they chose music over commercial success.)

For me, "Sounds like a melody" was a giant when it came out in the mid-80s.
Alphaville's "Forever young" album in general was a giant.

Yes another big hits from Alphaville first album is A Victory of Love , Forever Young and The Jet Set.
At the moment Alphaville have got Symphonic tour of the best song mostly in Germany and the are remastered 6 first albums from 1984 to 1997 on CD and Vinyl.

Big In Japan was their only song in the UK charts (highest position 8). They had 11 singles in the German top 100 over the years and 10 albums in the German top 100 album charts.
Are you familiar with Propaganda (because they were kind of "big in the UK")?
Their 1984 debut single Dr. Mabuse was produced by Trevor Horn (known for his work with, among others, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones and Seal) Dr. Mabuse is a fictional supervillain created by Luxembourgerish author Norbert Jacques in 1921. It has two music videos, the original in black & white referrencing the expressionistic German silent films, their record company (located in the UK) found that one being to artsy (meaning: German) for international audiences and commissioned a second one, more "80s" style, against the band's wish. If one looks closely, one can spot some of the band members acting intentionally out of sync in some scenes of that video. 😂
Alphaville, great 80s band, you will be surprised again if you listen to more of their songs ;) Kind of like A-ha where people know only their most popular song while some of the less known are better.
Check out the studio version from the album "Forever Young" (1984). There this song is extended with its a great synth second half.
Not only for me, this whole amazing album is timeless and one of the best albums not only of the 80's. The limited edition of this album also includes the equally great B-sides of the singles The Nelson Highrise (Sector 1: The Elevator), Seeds, Golden Feeling and Welcome To The Sun.
It's a total of 14 original songs plus their remixies.
The whole "Forever Young" album is an outstanding masterpiece. Their other albums didn't catch me though.

The problem with Alphaville is that the songwriter left the band after the success of the opening album "Forever young". A new band member was brought in to write the songs. The following album was therefore not as strong - although there are some good songs there too. But gradually the records became weaker and weaker, and with this the band fell more and more out of the limelight.
Highlights from the first album are of course the singles "Sounds like a melody", "Big in Japan" and perhaps the biggest hit the ballad "Forever young", but also "A victory of love" - in my opinion.
I also liked the b-side of the "Sounds like a melody single" "The Nelson highrise"…
