- Do you have $4000 to spend on a gaming laptop? Neither do I! But thanks to the power of time you could pick up this once flagship machine for what is, well actually, still too much money...
Let's see what sort of antiquities this time capsule is hiding.
Model: Alienware Aurora M9700
Thanks for watching :) - Наука та технологія
-How old are you?
-Windows XP.
-Respect sir.
Passed through 98 to 10, using every single one. 98, ME, XP with every service pack, Vista, 7 just when it came out, 8, 8.1 and updated to 10 as soon as it was released. My first time with a PC was at 3 back in 2001. Later, I tested 95 for curiosity.
jokes on you I was using xp in 2011 (11yo att)
Windows 95 was my first pc os I used then 98, 2000, xp, vista, 7, 8, and 10 I also use Mac and iOS

I know I miss tilting cameras on laptop too. Feels better knowing you are not being watched and you could record classes.
2006 was actually the year Dell bought Alienware out.
This is one of the last non-Dell Alienware products to be released.
Alienware was in Miami when they sold out to Dell
Salty Floridian I have one of the last M17xr4 with the box and 120hz 3D screens with the box and 3D glasses. It’s a great very fast notebook...a dying breed!
Stonewall Jackson I’ve owned both the M17xr4 and the MacBook Pro 15...both are nice but u have to deal w windows...but the new 2004 win 10 is good on my Alienware
Stonewall Jackson I lean now towards the Alienware but be careful which one.
The newer ones don’t allow I to chg the GPU ...it’s now soldered to MB. Not good. I have an original owner M15x from the Miami Alienware factory...loaded and mint

"This is still worth $ 3999!"
i did a quick ebay search and found one in blue for 625 dollars XD
@@KOSMOS1701A Exactly my point! xD
Such value, much ripoff .. so disappointing :p
Depreciation is a b-tch. Telling someone in 2008 who spent $3500 in 2001 that there was nothing I could do for them was even worse.
@@Dick_Valparaiso I know but it is what it is, once tried to buy an old laptop from a dude, he asked € 150 for a 11 year old basic little business machine; his reasoning "It still works .. mostly" suffices to say it didn't come home with me :/
reminds me of a friend who had a asus 'rog' republic of gamer laptop with red tints and stuff. with a like gtx640? ish cant remember but had a i7 but yeha was old we said we give you 200€ for it for the fun its old shit but he wanted 350 ish we said nahhh good luck.
he went to our local pawn shop and sold it there for 350€ +50 credits at there store...
WTF
and they sold it 4 weeks later for 650€ to someone who wanted to play the sims... welcome to france.. say it has a i7 and asus rog they will buy and dont understand its old and wont game... but hey we were laughing and happy for him that he god that much for it and that the shop sold it with in 1 month was ever stranger... but its often like that people buy at he pawn shop more for double price then on facebook / local craigslist...
my lg g3 nobody wanted to buy it for 130€ i went ot the pawn shop they would give me 100€... so i kept it ended up selling it local at 100€...
how does the pawn shop make profit on something i couldnt sell for more then 100€ but they would take for 100€ and so resell it for atleast 150€.....
but they know there clients... people like to see the item in a shop in france.... 'better quality' more expensive is better it there motto...
The story of the buyer of this laptop in 2006: So i was drunk
Thats why gaming on laptops suck, even if the cpu could support both gpu's it would either overheat so much that you could cook an egg on it or come up with some other bs that would make you regret paying 4 grand for it. A 2006 machine with 4k$ price that can barely run 2007 games is stupid even for a laptop though.
@@spongeboimebob thats why i still have the hp trashtop that the estate has give to me, it only has 2.0ghz cpu and a 4gb of ram... But it runs better than that bad boy from 2006 xkdnxnd xD

I remember being so amazed by this laptop, drooling over images of it and wishing if i was rich enough to afford it. It's amazing how fast technology becomes outdated, at this rate you'd be stupid to buy anything
The key is to buy based on price performance. So what makes sense to in the marketplace.
I remember how they used to put desktop CPUs into a laptop so they crushed all competition but even just browsing the web you got under 2 hours of battery life. Gaming it was just a requirement to be plugged in. I wanted one so bad for a LAN rig but a Shuttle setup was so much more practical. I couldn't afford either so I lugged my heavy case and CRT monitor around instead.
It's crazy, Bioshock can be played on an integrated gpu nowadays.
It's actually the way I first experienced it, on an intel hd 3000.

This makes me feel like benchmarking my Dell XPS M1730 (from 2007). It's been upgraded a bit over the years, and is currently sporting Core 2 Extreme x9000, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD + 1TB HD and GeForce 8800M GTX SLi. I bought it after a serious accident back in late 2007, because I couldn't sit normally at a desk for several months, and so I needed to be able to game with my legs up. It was my primary system for over two years. And was used frequently for a lot longer.
Mine was my daily driver from 2008 until 2014 or 2015 when the gpu cooked itself. Showed its age but a fantastic machine. Recently got it up and running again with a replacement part too.
God I remember absolutely loving their designs as a teen. I LOVED their old tower cases.
@Jeffrey Grindle eh, it’s just the coolers imo. and you can upgrade those for like 16 dollars with some cooler master fans to replace them with.
This reminds me of the time when every years' new hardware made such a huge difference. 4000 dollars for stutter after a year? No. I'm still using my 1000 dollar 3630qm 650SLI laptop after 7 years. Everything up to 2017 ran fine on 1080p low.

@@AmstradExin typical...forces you to upgrade, even if u spend 4k on a laptop.
Makes you wonder how people will see the current gen alienware area 51m worth $4k to people 14 yrs into the future
yep, considering that a year later every mid-range $500 laptop did have a dual core.
Topet Hernaez ...not really, as the RTX cards are EXTREMELY powerful and will be able to still play every SINGLE game 14 years from now with ray tracing disabled. Literally the only thing that will be lost is the ability to ray trace in a game 14 years from now on current laptop hardware, especially since RTX was made for the upcoming next gen games anyways. Meaning it will still be able to play games perfectly fine on at least medium settings 14 years from now with ray tracing disabled, just one single generation after this one coming up. Heck, they might even be able to run them with the lowest ray-tracing option enabled still. So no.
I had one of these at my old job. I was doing corporate video and needed something mobile for live events. This was about as fast and powerful as you could get at the time that could could take on a plane.... I think the AC brick weighed more than my current laptop and it's own AC brick...
imagine modifying an old alienware laptop chassis to fit a newer laptops internals
Whats the point when those upgrades cost a arm and a leg. And the newer laptops would pack in as much power if not more while offering other benefits.
@@siyzerix fun of course , same reason youtubers build pcs i crazy everyday things , and why the make sleeper pcs. take and old school alienware and either put in a new school laptop mobo and stuff , or go one better and find a way to put an actual pc in the chassis. would be an epic challenge
@@thewizardoftech5075 See, now that makes sense.

Great video. I remember when I was younger I'd go on the Alienware website and custom build something that was around $5k in cost. Knowing I could never afford that it still made me happy just building those gaming pcs on their website. Then I learned how fast PC technology goes out of style and if you wait just a year or two, that tech that was $5k would drop almost in half in that time. Good times.

For the record, there was also an Intel edition, called the 9750. That did have a dual core option, but it had a very strange Intel drawback. While the CPU could claim a 64bit address space, the chipset was limited to a 32bit address space. As such, it resulted in a strange scenario where it was possible to upgrade to 4GB of ram on a 64Bit machine, while still dealing with the 3.5GB limits associated with a 32bit OS.
