I'd say it's a good ramp up from Fish Man Island to show just how strong the crew is now. Luffy could easily bully Smoker at that point, Ceasar and Monet show Logia isn't nearly the threat it use to be for haki users and it introduces Kinemon and Momonosuke. I'd say if any arc deserves to not be anyone's favorite it's Dressrosa. It's Alabasta without the build up or the soul. Doflamingo doesn't have even half of Crocodile's menace or charisma, he's got exactly one mode and that's "MahHAHAHAHAHA!!!""lightning crackle. Rebecca is Vivi if you got her off Wish, the executives are Baroque Works if you got them off Temu and instead of carrying the box it got kicked everywhere, King Riku is King Cobra if your mom told you "No sweetie, put Cobra back, we have Cobra at home" About the only three positives I can possibly give are we got Sabo, Black Beard hype and that scene of Ussop awakening observation haki to spare Luffy the dread of forgetting his friends. Keep in mind, Dressrosa is bad by One Piece standards, if it were the exact same story, but with Bleach characters, it would be the best thing Tite Kubo ever wrote.
The 3 in 1's are great for affordability, and I can deal with the page quality, but the thing that gets me is how boring the covers and spines are. You line them up on a shelf and all you see are, more or less, the same Luffy. They have no identity of their own.
The One Piece 3-in-1s that were coming out around 2014-2017 had some pretty thin pages, although, they didn’t look that different from the early and later vols(as far as thickness). Otherwise, they are nice quality and look good inside and out. Omnis or thicker(paperback) vols that release after single vols often get criticized by fans/collectors. I believe there is that single vol superiority attitude that is also apparent in the comic book community.
right on the last sentence. they like the increased space taken up, aswell as the added artwork in the extra covers and backs. also back in the day it was super easy to get a cheap single so it just kinda became a calming habit for people
@@BigLipBoy sorry, but the feel and comfort of singles makes it a more enjoyable read in the majority of cases. I like my Berserk Deluxe edition, but a good ol' Slam Dunk or Bleach single is always a sure bet
Only the first printing of the first three or four volumes. Honestly, I don't really care that much, cuz regardless of what's printed on the page, my brain still reads it as Zoro.
With how fun it was to watch, this video pays great homage to One Piece! I'm definitely going to save up for the box sets. I'm a sucker for the extras, especially those awesome posters in this case. The extras and the better print quality are worth the berries for me!
The thing I absolutely hate about the 3-in-1’s is Luffy is on every single spine, all 33. I do not understand why they do this for 3-in-1’s, they’re nearly all like that, even the Vizbigs. There’s some that I hate, like the DBZ Vizbigs, Goku is on every spine, they would have looked so cool if every spine had a different character, like Vegeta on 2, Picollo on 3, Freeza on 4, Trunks on 5, Android 18 on 6, Cell on 7, Gohan on 8 & Buu on 9, that would have looked so cool.
Been collecting the 3 in 1's and I'm cool with them. Kind of like how they look on the shelf. Paper is definitely pretty thin, but it's not a deal breaker. Great video! 🙌
I can't believe that I got recommended this video after I finally bought the first box set. I was trying to figure out which was the best way to go, but I'm glad I got the box set. It's good to know how often the box sets have been coming out. I was thinking maybe the next would release this year or the next, but I guess when I'm done with box set 4, I'll get the singles. Thanks for making this video! It's very informative and helpful!
I am literally a huge fan of one piece and your videos, i thought that u stopped making these kind of videos but I am really happy that u decided to cover one piece, thanks for such good quality content and i am hoping to watch more of these, also i recently got 'I want to eat your pancreas' please make a video on it too as it's story is soo good, more people need to be aware about it, cheers
I've collected the singles until vol. 74 and then switch to the 3-in-1 to save money. I'm happy with the 3-in-1 and I keep collecting this format until a Deluxe format comes out, like Berserk!
I own the first vol, but I'm scared to invest in so many vols cause of space issues. One piece maybe a manga I'll have to go the digital route. Thanks for the detailed comparison video, those were a ton of books :) Also happy to see those parasyte color editions in the background, I've been collecting them as well
Thanks for making this video! I had no idea the singles were the same in the boxset, thought it's a different print for the boxset. The boxsets are sitting in my shopping cart, waiting for discount season :p
I just started reading and bought the omnibus. Interesting to hear the differences from the singles. That being said, at the end of the day I just want to read them and collecting is secondary for me so I’ll likely stick with the omnibus going forward unless the reading experience is compromised. I was debating getting the box sets and found your video since currently all 4 box sets are on a pretty big discount and only $485 ($520 after tax) on amazon for me. this 100% sealed the deal for me on getting the box sets, thankyou for the video! Edit: I can't type
Thanks for the review. Unfortunatelly for Spanish readers there is only two editions, single volume tokobon and 3-1. And I must advice that in Spanish edition 3-1 has better print quality.
I always enjoy your videos Kristen, for me, growing up I never payed any attention to One Piece, I just looked at the art work and animation, characters, and back then I found it dull and uninteresting. In the 90's it was all about Dragon Ball Z, it was my childhood, and at the time, One Piece didn't appear on Toonami, it was dubbed by 4kids, but regardless I didn't even watch because it just looked stupid. Then around 2-3 years ago, I just heard the news about this series getting a live action Netflix series, a big Times square celebration where a bunch of people were cosplaying these characters and hearing that it is the best-selling manga series of all time, finally I decided to really read and delve into this world that Eiichiro Oda created, and now I own 4 manga box sets of the manga! I love it and I can't wait to see how this story continues.
I collected the first boxset worth in 3in-1s & I think it just bothered me they didn’t do anything interesting with the spines & the art usually had a couple more small issues, so I switched to the boxsets after & think they’re currently the best way to collect the manga myself.. Now if they had a new version on higher quality paper & the translation said Zoro instead of Zolo I’d switch to that option instantly.
i started following from 3 days and i can tell you are pretty much underrated i saw your videos of manga review and you did a great job in doing that !!
I've been collecting the Volumes since 2005 and recently picked up 106 at the store the other day. I've gotten the single volume the whole time. The only problem is they didn't start puting the saga names on the books until Skypeia and then the retroactivly went back and put them on. So my Volumes 1 to 23 are not labled East Blue or Baroque Works. The first 7 volumes of the old prints also have different Viz logo before they changed it to the one they kept until Volume 87 and then switched to the current one.
I'd love to have all the One Piece books displayed on my shelf. I am already reading the series from my school library so I don't know how much I'd actually touch the books but dang it would look so nice
Thank you so much! I was wondering if you had a One Piece video just the other day 😅 Never really noticed the page quality of the 3-in-1’s, I didn’t have anything to directly compare it to. Hasn’t bothered me so far, too distracted by the story 😊
I agree. I've never read one of the single editions so I don't know what I'm missing either. I am only missing 6 of the 3-1 editions (volumes 1-99) they currently have. I am satisfied with the quality besides after a read the covers want to bend open a bit. I think theyre great but I bet through comparison to something higher quality would inevitabley make them feel worse.
I took the plunge with box set one. I will keep buying until i hit box set 4. Then, if there isn't another by that time, I'll buy singles. I just went and got all 4 box sets and collected the singles up to 106. Definitely don't regret going that route
I used to read One Piece when it was first starting to come out in English, but I fell off reading it maybe like two or three years later. It seems so intimidating to get back into!
To get into the series, I borrowed the physical volumes from the library. What was not available, I read on Manga+. A friend got me an omnibus volume of a part of Wano. Since I was already caught up, I didn't need it so I sold it and use that money to get an individual volume to start my collection. I did buy the first omnibus volume to gift to a few friends in efforts to get to them into the series since it was more cost effective. Though for collecting, I prefer the individual volumes and I plan to get them all in Japanese. Its free to read the digital translated version online anyway so for collecting purposes, I rather collect the raw untranslated colorful high quality individual volumes. It's also cheaper in Japan whether you get it there or order from zenmarket. The volumes are like $3 each and now with the exchange rate, it would be more like $2.50 each which is much more affordable. if you don't mind used volumes (which Japanese keep in excellent like new condition), they sell it for half that price at $1.50 on zenmarket. That's another option to own 100+ volumes for under $200.
I’ve collected almost all of the 3-1 volumes because it’s just the cheapest way to collect them and, since all the extra material is included, the only thing you lose is the cover art. You can use the money you saved to buy the colour walks though. I do wish they spelled Zoro’s name right. Otherwise they’re a good purchase.
I picked up an omnibus of one piece, but I have not read it yet. I like the price and I don’t think I will mind the page thickness. I would like to get my hands on a box set someday 😁
I guess it depends where 1P is on your top list, but damn - that 3-1 omnibus saving. Thats serious money. I tend to get the longer series in omnibus format (naruto, bleach etc). I know they usually arent as high quality but I dont think they are that bad. The money saved is massive though.
Tbf, on places like amazon or target during their b2g1 sales you can buy the box sets for mad cheap, I have 3/4 of the box sets and paid around $320ish total,
Esp if you do the method on target where you buy 3 of the same box set and immediately refund 2 and get the uncancelled one for 33% off of their already discounted price
I really want to read the One Piece manga since I’ve been watching the anime for a year now. But idk whether to buy the 3 in 1s or the box sets. I only have the first 3 in 1 since I wanted to read the beginning part of the manga series but for a good price since I got it at target for 12 bucks. But the box sets have premium content like the posters and books. But the 3 in 1s are practically a good deal.
I want to collect them so much but I am never going to because the mistranslation of Zoro's name drives me crazy in official releases. But if i ever get over it, your video is really informative
I have all four boxes. With the second and third ones, the books seem to fit really tighly inside, to the point where not only is it hard to get them out, but also it causes the sides to bend outward a bit. I don't know if this is just a problem with my copies, if I somehow damaged the boxes, or if this is a known issue with every copy.
I got the 3 in 1s for around £6 ( $7.59) each from a website called travelling man 😊 i got most of one piece excluding a few that were out of stock (i brought singles from travelling man around £5 ($6.33) at random later dates) for around £200 ($250 ish) … i still feel like the manga gods blessed me that day HAHA and with 10% off my order it was less than £200 … the uk varies so much compared to the us with pricing its crazy 😅 we get lucky on some series’
Did they fix other translation errors? One that irks me now is the Raftel and Raftal, I collect the box sets and see a lot of Raftels rather than Laughtale.
Due to the current popularity they are probably releasing the boxset sooner than previous ones as its currently the 'best' way to collect the series price wise.
I've got the first two boxes of the Japanese box set (the blue and white one). They're a bit smaller than the English boxes, being split up into 10 currently. They're really nice, but I couldn't say how they compare to the English print as I've never read one in person.
I found your channel recently with the Attack on Titan review, as I just got into manga with that series being my first. These reviews are super helpful, it's fascinating to see the different printing formats and good to know there are pros and cons to each, even if some are subjective. I get really particular about how things like this will appear on the shelf, so I appreciate the full showcase of how everything looks, along with the dimensions of each. Do you think they'll release some sort of giant complete collection set once the series is over? I'm wondering about this for Attack on Titan as well, since the series finished not too long ago, but I'm unfamiliar if this is something that mangas usually do or not. Thank you for the video, keep up the great work.
I bought the first 5 volumes in singles & then realised this will take forever haha, I then bought the box sets, but they were out of stock for like 2 years, I finally got them all this time last year. Then I bought the rest in singles, I still haven’t read them all, I’m only on vol 25, I haven’t read a volume in a while.
The first 7 volumes were my first volumes of manga i didnt buy any one piece volumes till now and now I bought all volumes to volume 12 and the Alabasta box set and all together it cost me 114€💀🙏(I’m german and also in German the box sets are a managed every saga so 1-12 for east blue and 12-23 for the Alabasta box set I bought)
Amazing video!! I just managed to get caught up to the anime and now thinking of collecting the box sets because how much I’ve grown to love this show. Great way to share with the kids in the future.
What are the books behind her in the top shelf that has the title moving lower with each volume? The books that go yellow, red, orange, green, grey, black, white
I'm jealous. I never really have a full collection of OP and started to recollect them again from volume 1. Still far from complete but enjoyed the ride
The only 3 in 1 manga I buy are Vinland Saga, Berserk and soon Blade the immortal. I love blown up hardcover with a leather textures they look nice but I perfer box sets!
I just worry that one day, god forbid, when this series ends, they'll start printing a higher quality edition that will make me regret whatever edition I pick up now. Color pages, updated translations (especially for the early volumes), larger print, cleaner gutters, there is still much to improve on for an ideal edition.
Honestly I’m hoping they make some kind of special editions once the series ends like the fma full metal editions. With hopefully an updated translation
I got the box set for $110.88. I don't know if the price either when down or I just got a discount. I ordered it in the morning and got it in the mail in the afternoon.
This is not necessarily the "correct" video in which to drop this comment, but... perhaps a video on the different Pokemon manga series / editions? Not sure if others would be into that, but I really think Pokemon Adventures Collector's Edition looks great, and I'd love to pick up that 600+ page volume sometime this year.
I've never heard anyone refer to Punk Hazard as one of their favorite arcs.

If only there was one without the Zolo translation. Pretty sure Zorro is public domain now, nor do I think anyone ever cared.
Did they fix other translation errors? One that irks me now is the Raftel and Raftal, I collect the box sets and see a lot of Raftels rather than Laughtale.
@ThePirateCommander Starring with whatever volume the Oden flashback is in, yes, they do change it to Laugh Tale.
Thank you for making a video upon one piece manga ❤
Already have all 4 box sets and am holding out for potential box sets' 5 and/or 6.
I'm glad u r posting regularly again. I hope Viz does One Piece Hardcovers, someday!
I imagined them making viz bigs but man I wish they would try that format again.
For a second I thought you were going to pull out the "all in one" editon 😂
The first 7 volumes were my first volumes of manga i didnt buy any one piece volumes till now and now I bought all volumes to volume 12 and the Alabasta box set and all together it cost me 114€💀🙏(I’m german and also in German the box sets are a managed every saga so 1-12 for east blue and 12-23 for the Alabasta box set I bought)
i'm collecting the omnis and have volumes until number 18 of the single volumes.Worth the time and money
Amazing video!! I just managed to get caught up to the anime and now thinking of collecting the box sets because how much I’ve grown to love this show. Great way to share with the kids in the future.
I started buying in singles, I’ve got most of them. It’s a little bit of a gut punch to see 4 box sets will get someone caught up to me 😂
What are the books in the background 7:25
What are the books behind her in the top shelf that has the title moving lower with each volume? The books that go yellow, red, orange, green, grey, black, white
Awesome video
I got all my box sets on amazon for $560 total
I'm jealous. I never really have a full collection of OP and started to recollect them again from volume 1. Still far from complete but enjoyed the ride
The only 3 in 1 manga I buy are Vinland Saga, Berserk and soon Blade the immortal.
I love blown up hardcover with a leather textures they look nice but I perfer box sets!
I have a first print Japanese One Piece Vol 1. It’s my best in my collection
Its been a long time....where were you 😢
How often do the 3 in 1 release? When is the next one coming out?
I’m pretty sure that a new 3 in 1 release comes out every year. So basically every three volumes.
I just worry that one day, god forbid, when this series ends, they'll start printing a higher quality edition that will make me regret whatever edition I pick up now. Color pages, updated translations (especially for the early volumes), larger print, cleaner gutters, there is still much to improve on for an ideal edition.
Still waiting for Amazon to fulfill my box set 2 order from 2 months I’m caught up on volumes 🙃🙃
I had 1-96 in the 3/1 editions then bought the box sets. I need to sell the first set!
Honestly I’m hoping they make some kind of special editions once the series ends like the fma full metal editions. With hopefully an updated translation
Good luck with the price haha. Though, I strongly agree.
The box sets have gone on some seriously deep sales on Amazon. It’s how I’ve managed to collect the entire series at like $4-5 a book
I got the box set for $110.88. I don't know if the price either when down or I just got a discount. I ordered it in the morning and got it in the mail in the afternoon.
Could you do a review on all fairy tail manga editions? :D
What’s the best place to buy one piece manga box sets
I'm gonna go with 3-in-1s
I have the boxset 2 and its great💓💓, cant wait to get the boxset 3❣️❣️
They should do a hardcover version with modern translation
Ive decided to go with box sets and i will not watch the anime but im looking forward to reading it
she is giving the dimensions of these books 4:36 my attention to this consideration has piqued even more.
I went with the three in one, for me it far easier to manage 33 omnibus vol than it is to manga 99 single vol 😅
Honestly, I think One Piece deserves the VizBig treatment, considering how beloved and popular the manga is!
