We feel really gratefull and proud in Spain of this entry, it is a respect for our country that Finland performed with such grace and elegance a representation of our culture.
Wonderful song, powerful voice and good instrumentation. After 30 years, I can’t stop listening this song. Thanks from an amateur Turkish musician to Finnish friends.
Finland, you are one amazing people in an amazing place. This song is pure class, my favourite Finish entry ever. Never stop being you. All my love from Switzerland 🇨🇭
❤Fun fact: She sings the finnish versions of some Disney classics like The circle of life from the Lion king (Elämän tie) and the Beauty and the beast (Tyttö sekä hän)
The commentator from the Netherlands says: higher than 6th place the Finns have never reached, but who knows this year that will happen with Anneli Saaristo and La dolce vita...She certainly should have finished top 3!
Kyllääää...one of the best finnish entries ever. Some say it does not reflect the finnish culture. Well, go to Canary Islands in Winter, watch the finnish travellers and you will understand this song perfectly. The closer to the flight back home, the more melancholic. ;-)
This song has the absolute best lyrics in Eurovision history. Much love from Turkey ❤️ The last chord of my childhood's song Keeps on playing in the horizon I won't see the figure of the angel painting By my side to protect me anymore Yet over a thousand winds I can hear a carefree song playing And with it can sing a happy one: The child of summer and sun The good life It has all been so sweet The good life No need for tears I was just quenching life's thirst I knew how to plead for happiness After everything all I can say is: The good life Sometimes my mind is filled With yearning to be with the white angels When the rainbow bends in the sky And I can't find my way to the bottom of it But when the ribbon of the moments goes on There's an unbroken peace in the soul And to you can sing a happy one: The child of summer and sun
Those live orchestras really need to come back to the ESC. The conductor here is Ossi Runne in his final performance. He conducted all the Finnish entries to the ESC from 1966 until 1989.
@@danielbeach7177 Fun Fact: In 1981 he was the radio commentator together with Erkki Pohjanheimo for YLE and Finland's Head of Delegation for Eurovision
@@heartytime The rule has always been like this. Whoever is the conductor in the national final will also conduct in the Eurovision. This rule also applies in Sweden But in this case, it was the YLE producer who decided to let Donner conduct for Eurovision, not Sorsa. Runne wasnt offended by it since he knows Donner was the one who did the arrangement. And besides, mentioned above, he (Runne) is the Finland's Delegation Head and Radio Commentator besides Pohjanheimo In later Eurovisions to come until '89 (tho he conducted the national final in 1990, but it was Ahvenlahti who conducted for Eurovision since Runne retired already. But I have a feeling that everything was on playback, not live, in the '90 national final), he was the resident conductor.
I absolutely adore this song!! My number one favorite Finnish entry and my favorite 1980's entry. It's such an unusual combination of genre and language and it works so perfectly.
One of the guitarists (concretely the bearded one) reminds me of late Paco de Lucía, an accomplished and talented musician who made flamenco worldwide famous and dignified the genre with masterpieces like Entre dos aguas.
I mean, I'm not sure if it's fair to call this old-fashioned for its time, since the song was literally performed over 30 years ago. And sure, the rhythm has aspects from other cultures, but at least 98% of the singing is done in Finnish (unlike today when it's often 100% English). I think this is in the top 5 of best Finnish entries of all time, although I was born at the start of the 2000s.
This was the last Finnish song to end up in the top-10 before Lordi. It's certainly a great song, with a fabulous vibe to it, and so catchy!

so nice song!!!❤💜❤🇪🇦🇫🇮
Yllättävän hyvä laulamaan tämä Annika Saarikko
Hänet voisi lähettää Euroviisuihin toistekin. Eikös se sovi hyvin kulttuuriministerin pestiin?

This is still the highest-scoring entry in the Finnish language. (Edit) Until now! 😄

Ojalan laskuoppi: yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä, viisi, kuusi, seitsemän, kahdeksan... / Saariston laskuoppi: yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä, viisi, seitsemän, kuusi, kahdeksan...
Great song, however very flamenco, it doesn't reflect Finish culture, maybe that's why it got a 7th place only.
flamenco reflects finnish culture ! it's the other country of tango !!
It got 7th position because of flamenco style. Had it been a "Finnish" song it would've been outside top15.
Those days, when Finland got 7th place, we were happy that we did so well.
Well, they almost beat their record at that time: a 6th place set by Marion Rung in 1973
so oldfashioned and it doesn t fit to Finland.
Au contraire! I think this fits wonderfully to Finland! A great song and a fab performance!
