@chillskit3086 Wrong. The Middle East is ASIAN. They legally changed themselves by going to court to become white in the 1900's because Asians couldn't have American Citizenship in the 1900's. Look it up.
Every place that has “race” on any document….for health, ID, any form…..uses identity in some way. Regular routine DNA testing in global healthcare will make changes in this, hopefully sooner rather than later.
I'm Egyptian myself and I didn't understand the reason behind why Americans obsessed with the race thing. we as Egyptian and arabs or north Africans have lots of skin colors. We do see it as customs and values more than skin tone.
im REALLY surprised you didnt bring up the story of George Shishim. He is THE REASON arabs are now considered white in the US. He was a arab american police officer who arrested a prominent lawyers son and then faced a legal battle over his citizenship/racial status. They argued that being Lebanese he was a mongolian asian. Shishim argued he was white and ended up winning, changing the classification of arabs in a direct legal sense. He famously argued in court "If I am mongolian then so is jesus, as we come from the same land"
@@nousername7509 you do know that their are Lebanese people with skin complexion that could also be described by the construct of “black” & pass as black in places like Europe & America just by their skin tone, so that’s not saying to much. Google “dark skinned Lebanese people.”

Thai people call Middle Easterners "white kaek", and dark skinned South Asians as just "kaek". Do you think this categorization makes sense? Europeans on the other hand are called farang.
I think only white people see other races and ethnicities based on skin color, which oversimplifies people's ethnicities and heritages. My example of Thai people is about facial features. Skin color comes second. East Asians are one group because they tend to have small eyes and fair complexion. Malays and Indonesians and people in Brunei are another group. Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis are in the same group. Middle Easterners and North Africans are another group. The world certainly is not just based on skin color.

Incidentally, I gained an appreciation of the Arab culture and a respect for the differences.
The question should be irrelevant. “Black” and “white” are useless categories created by ignorant people. Different ethnicities such as Berber, Turk, Albanian, Kurd, Inuit and so on do exist however. Just ask them

In ancient Ceylon, people were curious about outsiders. They traded with outsiders and even allowed them to settle. It has changed after Portugese took advantage of their hospitality. Even after that, the worst case for a foreigner would be to be suspected as a spy. In that case you would be detained in some fertile valley for about one year to be observed, and well fed. They are allowed to work, learn, trade and even teach their religion, and write books. There are many books written by several foreigners from different countries who were detained in open space for observation. it's also partially that being ethnic is almost fashionable at this point. So many kids I went to high school with wanted to be black so bad, they acted all "street" but lived in upscale houses and drove Porsches.
My take on this matter is that genetics and how it manifests into phenotypes is much more complicated that it superficially looks like and we should stop using these categories to define human diversity. Ethnic and cultural characteristics are more precise and more true to how humans actually group together than any other framework, if we ever wanted to put people into such boxes.
I disagree bc race only becomes consulted when you change it as its been changed due to socioeconomic reasons. Race was supposed to be the simple fact that every race coke from the 3 continents of Africa, Asia and Europe.
I have blond hair, green blue eyes and light skin, but evey time I tell someone that I am Arab not " white" the look on their face is telling how the idea of " color" is embedded in many people's minds, more than often I have to explain that Arabs are the historical continuation of so many different groups that historically lived in vast parts of the ancient world, basically The ME and NA, and as such will reflect this continuity in culture, physical appearance etc, I try to explain to them that the idea of race among Arabs was rejected by most, in fact when some Arab authors tried to define Arabs as a race, like the medieval Al Jahiz, they were challenged and basically had to retract such ideas. In fact the idea of being " Arab" was supposed to be " open " and the funny part nowadays is that the proponents of " Arab purity " are sometimes " nonArabs " in terms of origin like Saudi Mansour Al Balushi, whose last name indicates he is a Baluch from today's Pakistan, yet people like him call Arabs like Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians " remnants of Romans and Greeks , very strange when actually the archaelogical records shows that the 1st mention of " Arabs " was in Southern Syria in 853 BCE by the the Assyrians fighting a coalition of Levantine kings in the battle of Qarqar
Is it your claim you don't have a race, and simply an ethnicity? I'd be fine with that, but I wouldn't want you to cut against normal identity for white Christians, which is so often the aim of people when they deny being Caucasian, which "white" is shorthand for. White Americans use white to have some group identity, which is much more cohesive than religion most of the time because white encapsulates a lot of cultural norms mainly stemming from the UK but also broadly from Western Europe.

The US could probably add more categories that align with the overly board categories so they can still have contiguous data, but have categories that better reflect people's identities.
The existence of categories shouldn’t even exist at all. The only reason it exists is to properly allocate victim points to certain groups and discriminate against those who don’t have enough points.
@DownWithHamas someday they should go, but the data still might be valuable for the government to enforce discrimination law, like they recently rejected redistricting maps in the south because it put too many black voters in one place, thus reducing their influence. Great topic. The question is irrelevant for us. I'm lightskinned, probably the same skin tone as most White Americans, but my facial features and hair give me away as being not-quite white. Some Arabs are white, most are beige or light-brown, others are dark brown, and some are even black. We are Semites, our ancestral tongue is Afro-Asiatic, not Indo-European. I would like to add that *most* of the world is not as neatly-defined as American society wants it to be. The only reason they think it is, is because of how noticeably different white and black Americans look compared to one another. In most places, there isn't this 1 v 1 stark difference between two completely unrelated racial groups. The world is more layered and subtle. Argentinians got flack for not being brown enough during the World Cup. Many northern Indians are the same very light brown skin tone as Arabs are. This is completely ridiculous and arbitrary, in my opinion.
Totally agree with you. I’m from Argentina and I think the whole discussion about our football team was hilarious. Americans assumed brown and black people were underrepresented in our national team because we are racist, when it’s literally the opposite, football is one of the things in Argentina where brown people are the most represented in haha. But we simply don’t fit their narrative of what a Latin American country is supposed to be like.
I don’t understand why the western world talk a lot about the skin colour and how they categorise people and race. Is it that important?? And after all that they call us a racist😑
The case for Egypt is a bit complex, due to its location being a crossroad.West, South and East, you'd find at least three different skin tones. And according to representations from the Egyptians themselves, people from North Africa were the whitest of them all. As for the Egyptians themselves, being at a crossroad, and the target of many migrations and invasions, it's likely they ended up being a mix of them all.

American census categories are weird. White isn't a purely racial category but also linked to ethnocultural aspects. The biological race is called caucasoid or europoid and you can guess where the latter term is more common. We actually had two lessons about race at school in year 6 and later also a bit in year ten at my German school. It was very factual and about which races exist, where they migrated and where different races mixed and what the term for those mixed race populations are. We were shown pictures and there was a map in the general school atlas book we all had for geography. Political correctness idiocy changed that later. Anyways, the caucasoid race reaches from Europe to India. The vast majority of Indians are caucasoid, just of a darker skin as skin tone is actually something that can change relatively quick from an evolutionary perspective. Siberia/Central Asia has been an area where this race mixed with the mongoloid one (Native Americans also seem to have a small but significant percentage of caucasoid ancestry but mainly mongoloid) while the Horn of Africa is a mix with congoid/negroid race. There is also the australoid one mainly in Melanesia but with population elsewhere and traces of ancestry in Southeast Asia. Last but not least there is the tiny capoid one comprising the Khoisan in Southern Africa. It's just that. It has nothing to do with any normative claims. No need for racial conflict. We are races of the same species.

Technically, Arabs and Europeans are closer to each other than they are to East Asian or blacks. They form a genetic cluster that is called the West Eurasian cluster. East Africans are partially west Eurasian and partially indigenous East African which is the closest ancient African population to all none Africans since all Eurasian people crossed from east Africa to Eurasia. With that being said I don’t think Arabs should be considered white because this makes Arabs a minority without protections. Also it makes Arabs as a minority not benefit from certain laws and programs meant to uplift minorities.
It sounds like you're attempting to squeeze genetics into the theory of race. Sorry, it can't be done if you understand both genetics and the theory of race. Races are supposedly unique, with distinct skill sets and mental attributes as well as physical looks. And none of those bundles of racial characteristics have been found by geneticists, because humans are not divided up that way. White or black or whatever is purely based on beliefs, not on actual real things. So whoever is in power in a particular country or region which uses race (not all countries do) decides who is and who isn't a particular race. It varies a lot from country to country, because it's all made up.
@@Kgji567 The modern concept of race was developed in the 1700s - it claims that humanity is divided into races which each have unique bundles of characteristics that separate them. That is the theory of race. Since it's pure gaslighting, there isn't any biological basis to it, so the definitions of what races exist and who belongs to which race vary a lot, from time to time and country to country. But the concept of unique bundles of characteristics defining a race is common to all of them. Geneticists have not been able to find any evidence of races in human biology (by whatever country's standards).

I have always had a strong interest in history and have spent tome reading books on that topic. The European officials in Canada, Bermuda, Spanish America, and the Caribbean islands abolished slavery immediately. The officials in Canada and the Bahamas gave sanctuary to African Americans fleeing from slavery in the late 1700s and early 1800s. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson wished to maintain the greediness and brutality of slavery, so they could live an easy, leisurely way of life.

Caucasian, aka Caucasoid include Europeans, western Asians(Russia and below), Arabs, North Africans and Indian(98+% of population including north and south). "Whites" are specifically European descent as an old racial term as your video suggests.
This is true for all mediterranean people including southern Italians, southern Spanish, etc. Those who are dark skinned are sometimes discriminated but officially they are as white as Norwegians. So they are discriminated twice because nothing is made to help them face this discrimination which is supposed not to exist

It's genuinely absurd that we continue to employ broad terms like white, black, and Asian, considering the intricate genetic histories within each group. Phenotypes offer a more sensible approach, acknowledging the immense genetic diversity found in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Which has inspired me to make a new series on it!
Before 7500 years ago give or take the whole planet was African in complexion and phenotype. So I would say soon as white and light skin was introduced to society and having seeing the world mostly black or brown the minority race of white people created a system to survive against the dominant traits.
I guess white is a phenotype. But it's not unheard of that during conquests people make children on the road whether it's from marriage or not, and also Middle East and North Africa were colonised by the Greeks and Romans. For example, the old Palestine was from Crete. I'm an eastern European Hungarian and we identify as "white" Europeans but in reality, moved to Europe 1000 years ago from East Asia. Most tribes are Turkic relatives.
Many Arabs look "white" because they are mixed with European. Lebanese and Syrians have a lot of European ancestry. Sudanese are mostly African with some Arab ancestry. Though the ancient Egyptians had less European ancestry but also less (black) African ancestry than the do now. If one also reads about genetics an light skinned Arab can look quite similar to a Greek or Portuguese man but a Greek or Portuguese man is genetically closer to a Nordic Scandinavian than to any Arab.
I find this very interesting and kinda funny cuz this is the same for many countries (iran, india, Afghanistan etc) even my country pakistan. Up north they are very fair skinned (mainly cuz they iranic for e.g pasthuns) and the more south you go the darker they become
No...that's wrong. If you are white you're likely to be 95 percent or higher european. Really only people of color are mixed *coughhow'dTHAThappencough*
They are Caucasoids but not exactly white. White is a social construct and there is also a cultural component to it. Primarily practicing a denomination of Christendom. On that respect our problem with the Arabs is more of a cultural one than a racial one.

@@johnathanmay9143 Because they’re not European. They come in all shades but they are all Arabs. While we label things to be able to differentiate between the geographical location and its attributes, the fauna and flora, as well as the inhabitants, it’s really not that deep, people just love to think they’re different. We’re all of the human race and probably originated from the same first humans if blond blue-eyes are a genetic mutation. Humans were nomads since the beginning of time, some will settle and start civilizations. It’s a fact that moving from hemisphere to another, people will have less and less melanin because they have adapted to their natural environments, and after centuries of reproducing the same genetical makeup in an area, you would have groups of people who look the same.
My two cents: It's because they look whiter than brown or black people and have features which are more similar to Europeans than to Asians or Native Americans. Oh, and Europeans can actually tan just as much as this guy's uncle or father.
The more you read the work of the enlightenment time on race the more you realize It really didnt matter what people looked like. to me arabs are white bc race isn't even a real thing so if we must classify them white is the most fitting, historically they have the closest connections to and with europeans, many of them look european, and if they have black admixture then they can identify as afro-arab, the european and arab world have been taking ideas and trading with each other for thousands of years and that includes mixing phenotypes, there's definitely a large amount of arabs that are physically more "brown" but if bulgarians, turks, greeks, albanians, southern iberians, and southern italians all have to be considered white it makes sense that arabs should be too, also, why do alleged poc always whine about "it's funny how europeans say they were the civilized ones" we were all simultaneously uncivilized and advanced in our own ways compared to where we are now, and you've seen all the progress white people have made in recent history, it's such a petty cope and it's disappointing to hear, and asking horners if they have more in common with north africa is stupid, the only reason they would is bc of the influence of the arabian peninsula that's right next door to them and literally intermixed with them for centuries as well grouped with the influence of arabs in egypt, so the common denominator is the arab conquerers/merchants that influenced those regions, as someone who went to school for history and has studied anthropology extensively, there's a reason older arab babas especially middle eastern ones claim to be white bc they know their connection, i know it's cool to be this woke beige afro-centrist but it's better to be yourself than to try and carve out this poc love fest that doesn't exist, and the only damn reason why you don't see yourself as white is due to demographic change in the US and bc you spent most if not all of your life in a post 9/11-desert storm world where your white status has been demoted within the societal psyche, plus your way of talking about arabs is only applied to the american perception of arabs discounting the entire world like a true american lmao
The whole "classify" thing is bullshit man. According to this logic, a lot of South Asians should also be classified as "white" because they're not black, nor mongoloid, and certainly not islanders. But on the consensus, they're lumped in with East asians.
This is just absolutely ridiculous, and it's very typically American. You can place people into ethnic categories, if you want, but "white" and "black" aren't ethnicities. Someone from Belgium has very little in common with someone from Albania, even though the US would consider both of them to just be white. Someone from Ethiopia is nothing like someone from Chad, even though they'd both be classified as black, according to the American census. Zulu, Amhara, Afrikaners, Berbers, Iberians, Finns - they could be classified as ethnic groups. Most of the world that isn't the US just does racism on a country-by-country basis these days, mostly. Poland dislikes Germany, who is disliked by the French, and so on. Hence, you might get a Frenchman of Algerian origin fighting with a German of Turkish descent. But in the US, you're required to fill in the colour of your skin on school forms? Even if your skin colour could be attributed to an incredibly wide variety of geographical regions which have nothing in common between them, you're now part of one, homogenous group. It's just weird.
Before Islam, North Africa was basically part of Europe. Rome covered the Mediterranean and many North Africans were celebrated in antiquity like St Augustine. It's not silly. Europeans are very closely related to middle Easterners and north africans genetically, relative to sub saharan Africans, east asians and other areas of the world. This is well established
Europeans and MENAs are both, in terms of modern population genomics, West-Eurasian. Both groups have significant deep ancestry from Neolithic Farmers, Basal (West) Eurasians and Caucasian Hunter Gatherers. MENAs often have Natufian farmer admixture (peaks in Peninsular Arabians) which is absent in Europeans, while native Europeans all have significant European Hunter Gatherer admixture (peaks in Scandinavian and Baltic peoples). This is why many MENAs pass as White. Most Egyptians have significant Natufian ancestry, most studies of ancient Egyptian Autosomal DNA show they were actually mostly Natufian with some additional CHG and Neolithic Farmer admixture. There are Sub-Saharan African people who have migrated to Southern Egypt, however native Egyptians do not stand out from other MENA people in terms of Autosomal DNA.
Northwest Europeans are mostly Yamnaya, Bell Beaker, Corded Ware and Sredny Stog with some WHG, WSH, EEF, and AAF ancestry, they are not any way related to the Natufian population. it's also partially that being ethnic is almost fashionable at this point.
A lot of North Africans look white, Tunisians and Algerians could definitely pass for white.
Because they have lots of Non Med European admixture to them from the Vandals, Visigoths, And Vikings many that were slaves just as many Non Med Africans were like Nilotics And Sudanics yeah.
I dont think they are native to north africa cuz many french have lived in north Africa and married the locals and that why many of them look white, also after the fall of andalus many muslims of andalus who were Europeans have escaped to north africa, and the Barbary slave trade they enslaved Europeans in north Africa, so all that will get white looking people in those north african countries, they culturally arabized through so many of them dont know their origin.

This system really only exists like that in the US, not in Europe though. It is obviously pretty nonsensical for a great many reasons and should be abandoned. Here they were even arguing about the use of the word "racial" in legislature that expressly forbids to collect and process data on ethnicity, political leanings, religion etc. when applying for citizenship. That was like 20 years ago. So they were basically trying to figure out a way to say it is illegal to collect such data using this category without using the word that defined the category because it is nonsensical to begin with and shouldn't be used anymore. Was quite the hickup for them. 😂

Not just the West. I live in Asia, and skin colour and other features are used to define categories too. The names are simply different

Middle easterners would be considered white since we and Europeans share the same ancestors. The prehistoric people who migrated to Europe came from Anatolia and Iran. Middle easterners are Caucasian (just like Europeans) and are closely related to them.
Iran and Anatolia is not really the Middle East. Middle East is usually used for semetic speaking populations of africa.
@@MariaSanchez-kg2fl there’s genetically speaking no such thing as Semitic. Semitic-speaking populations descend from Natufian hunter gatherers and from Neolithic Anatolians. I wonder why so much of our youth is interested in classifying people by color and where that will take humanity in a few years.
So this is basically a "just because school taught me something it must be true" argument?
Indians are not just dark Caucasoid, they are an admixture of native south asians( a population genetically similar to dark skinned kinky haired" andamanese people"),and Indo European population (europoid) and some do have some level of east Asian admixture.
@@kingpauljoel6827 those Iranian farmers and Indo-Europeans are not caucasoid? I know about the australoid admixture in parts of India as well as mixed and fully mongoloid ethnic groups. But look at the size of the australoid admixture and also where Indian population centers are.

@@unknownable6396that statement applied to basically any country in the world, especially those birthed after colonization. Stop downplaying other people's history!
Asians also have prejudice against skin tones within their own populations. Some are darker skinned, which is deemed less desirable in some Asian cultures.
Regional identification is much better like central asia, South Asia, South East Asia
@@nycbearff the world is not a monolith, I’ve never heard of a single unified theory of race that everyone agrees on. Your comment is pointless.
@@nycbearff it’s crazy because I have not mentioned the word race at all in my original comment yet you are here renting about race. I don’t see what both of your comments have to with my comment.

Race is just a social construct and has nothing to do with looks. What is real are genetic variations but it has nothing to do with race. I'm a Filipino and technically Asian but when people think of Filipinos or Asians, my face obviously doesn't cross their mind. I may have different genetics from the stereotypical Asians but still Asians like me do exist.
My dad is Arab he is pretty dark especially being from Jordan where I see a lot of lighter Arabs. But anyway, I had to convince him that he wasn't white. My response, Actually they look like Arabs not vice versa and that's because of the Phoenicians.
We're just a bunch of colors , not one , my mom's skin is white ( her features are arab)while my dad would be considered a bit dark skinned, my grandpa on the other hand is very very dark , though his facial features are not that of a different race .

Why does race exist? *vsauce music starts playing*
Rubbish Huns were from Central Asia native central Asians are Caucsiod from the bmac people
Thanks Metta. Enjoyed a lot
They aren't technically. They were called arabs because in hebrew this word means "to be mixed" . They "technically" are mixed.
True but real Arabs are white
Haha, we are Arabs, not mixed
The Jews may be the closest people to the Arabs
Many Arabs look "white" because they are mixed with European. Lebanese and Syrians have a lot of European ancestry. Sudanese are mostly African with some Arab ancestry. Though the ancient Egyptians had less European ancestry but also less (black) African ancestry than the do now. If one also reads about genetics an light skinned Arab can look quite similar to a Greek or Portuguese man but a Greek or Portuguese man is genetically closer to a Nordic Scandinavian than to any Arab.

They are Caucasoids but not exactly white. White is a social construct and there is also a cultural component to it. Primarily practicing a denomination of Christendom. On that respect our problem with the Arabs is more of a cultural one than a racial one.

The more you read the work of the enlightenment time on race the more you realize It really didnt matter what people looked like. Where u from
@@HELLO_KORO Maldives
to me arabs are white bc race isn't even a real thing so if we must classify them white is the most fitting, historically they have the closest connections to and with europeans, many of them look european, and if they have black admixture then they can identify as afro-arab, the european and arab world have been taking ideas and trading with each other for thousands of years and that includes mixing phenotypes, there's definitely a large amount of arabs that are physically more "brown" but if bulgarians, turks, greeks, albanians, southern iberians, and southern italians all have to be considered white it makes sense that arabs should be too, also, why do alleged poc always whine about "it's funny how europeans say they were the civilized ones" we were all simultaneously uncivilized and advanced in our own ways compared to where we are now, and you've seen all the progress white people have made in recent history, it's such a petty cope and it's disappointing to hear, and asking horners if they have more in common with north africa is stupid, the only reason they would is bc of the influence of the arabian peninsula that's right next door to them and literally intermixed with them for centuries as well grouped with the influence of arabs in egypt, so the common denominator is the arab conquerers/merchants that influenced those regions, as someone who went to school for history and has studied anthropology extensively, there's a reason older arab babas especially middle eastern ones claim to be white bc they know their connection, i know it's cool to be this woke beige afro-centrist but it's better to be yourself than to try and carve out this poc love fest that doesn't exist, and the only damn reason why you don't see yourself as white is due to demographic change in the US and bc you spent most if not all of your life in a post 9/11-desert storm world where your white status has been demoted within the societal psyche, plus your way of talking about arabs is only applied to the american perception of arabs discounting the entire world like a true american lmao
The whole "classify" thing is bullshit man. According to this logic, a lot of South Asians should also be classified as "white" because they're not black, nor mongoloid, and certainly not islanders. But on the consensus, they're lumped in with East asians.
Dumbest shit I’ve heard
Are Indians white cause they got history like the Europeans and Arabs?
Why the only video on UA-cam where the thumbnail answers the question
Before Islam, North Africa was basically part of Europe. Rome covered the Mediterranean and many North Africans were celebrated in antiquity like St Augustine.
The whole Mediterranean was connected and the ancient Carthaginians came from the Levant.
Germanic tribes even went to North Africa to take over former Roman territories
It is Islam that separated North Africa from Europe but they were originally connected and you can't tell some Berbers from europeans

Exactly man. Where you from?
The ancient Egyptians were Hamites, directly related to populations in the Horn of Africa and southeastern Africa today, the Maasai, Turkana, Afar, Beja, Somalis, Oromo, etc., are their closest relatives, definitely not modern Egyptians.
