- Cakewalk has had a lot of innovative ideas over the years. Aux tracks and patch points are no exception. These powerful tools can be used for a lot of creativity. However the question that keeps coming up is, "What is the difference between an Aux track, a Bus, and a Patch Point in Cakewalk.
Well, in this video I hope to explain just that and show some practical applications of how to use them in Cakewalk by BandLab!

I knew there had to be a way to record just the send effect. I'm glad I found this video!!
Created 2 tracks - a source and "new AUX track". Put compressor in FX bin of AUX track. With source track already recorded I was able to get much better results by routing the source to the AUX track and routing the compressed AUX track to my main busses. Really brings out what's on the source track ! Thanks.

@@Homestudiosimplifed I learned in a public speaking class that most Americans speak at a cadence of between 120 to 150 words per minute. As examples commercials are typically a little faster while news broadcast readers generally speak a little slower. An orator such as a preacher giving a sermon will be on the slower side. You're looking for what "feels" natural to most people. In your case your videos are viewed worldwide and available to people where English is their second language as well as native English speakers so I would shoot for 110 to 120 words per minute.
If you write out your scripts then one page filled with words using a 12 point font and with lines that are double spaced will equal about sixty seconds.
You're really stepping it up with these videos mate, well done! Nice graphics are good and all but I especially want to commend you on the improvements you've made to the speed and cadence of your v/o's - it's certainly noticeable and makes for a much improved experience. Subbed.

Hello! Thank you very much for the content you put up. I'm seriously considering switching to Cakewalk. Watching this video I hear that you said that routinely we will encounter latency issues when using EQ on an aux track, if the EQ is not linear. I think using EQ on aux tracks is a very common practice, either to filter a reverb or to hype parallel compressed drums, or many other situations. Is this something that happens in Cakewalk in particular? Or using EQ on an aux track always introduce latency? I'm really looking forward to take the leap, but I mix with a lot of sends, groups, and auxiliares. Thanks again.

Bongonzo yes sir! Or... create a sharp transient and see if it matches up with the timeline. If it does then it could be something else, or you may be able to at the very least use it as a marker to know where to move it.
Just what I've been looking for thanks, I'm off to try it. Hopefully it works the same with external inserts on the source track instead of plugins. I'm looking for a way to print my external hardware onto a new track.

Hi Rob. Hope things are going well. I was watching Leland Sklar's (legendary bass player) latest vid tonight and he was asking about how to display something while flipping back and forth to that and himself. I suggested he do the split screen thing you and several others who do tutorials use,.where you appear against the main screen in a small video box. I also recommended he ask you about it, since you are such a nice helpful guy and a great teacher and since I know he often reads my comments, thought I'd give you a heads up, that he might show up in a comment looking for you. Either way, you got a plug on a popular channel, which hopefully gets you some extra traffic too, esp. among Cakewalk users, as I mentioned that also.

Hey Robert, Do you have any videos on routing the external insert from master bus to outboard gear. I've been trying to use a preamp on my mix bus using the external insert plugin but keep getting a delay. I guess because I'm hearing the mix as well as the mix coming back thru the hardware unit. Hoping you might have a video showing a step by step setup for my situation and what I'm doing wrong.

I still dont understand why if i export a file in wav format then i want to load the wav file into the matrix view i have to fix the beat parameter save it again and re load it into the matrix view....if i dont do the aformentioned process the loop seems to loose tempo and beats informations.
Please do make your references on console view also just for clearity. Some people are not used to the track view pattern. Thanks

Hi Robert. A bit out of topic, but I must ask. In other studios like Pro Tools and Reaper, you can go into scrub to listen to tracks by moving the mouse back and forth to find the exact correct spot to split the wave. But I can't find something like that in Cakewalk. Can you help me there?
There is an aim assist but I don’t believe there is a scrub option. Sorry.

What screen recording software do you use. i use obs every time you play music using the aux track the sound does not come out

Can you use a patch point as a sidechain input? That would be very useful in mixing.

Also im like 60-70 percet done with the compression simplified beta test but i restarted my pc and im not sure how to get back into the course

@@Homestudiosimplifed AWESOME, im back in. what a great treatment you showed on that acoustic guitar. love how the compression lets the body of the guitar through until a certain threshold then thins it out. that is REALLY REALLY fire. so subtle but wow what a difference. I love her voice too by the way. great talent from the artist
i just create a bus and route whatever i want to it. sometimes Ill use a send but im not really sure what the aux track would do that a bus or send cant.
You can record to the aux! So you could create parallel effects, you could blend a Bass Amp and a Bass DI on one track and delete the two for one, you could record only the effects of a bus to use for blending in tastefully... the sky is the limit really.
@@Homestudiosimplifed so essentially you can bounce tracks down to 1 track, I see the advantage as far as cpu for sure. it makes a little more sense now. thank you for speaking plainly for us simple folk lol ;) I may need to watch it again to fully grasp the concept. Nothing really, it's just handy not to clutter the bus's, so later when your mixing / mastering you can see things better
@@keithlane4705 Yeah if you are working with a substantial amount of tracks I can definitely see the need. I also thinks its interesting to be able to record your effects only onto a track, might be able to make some interesting sounds this way
In Practical Example #2, how did you create that track? Is it an AUX or Bus? The track icon is throwing me off and I've never done this. I'm trying to mix L, R, and solo center guitars to one track with FX and create another channel, track or whatever for Center for time based reverbs and delay. T.I.A.
An Aux is essentially a Bus in Cakewalk only it’s on the track view instead of the console view.

Any idea why aux tracks always record a stereo file when the incoming source is mono?
This is a default. They act much like a Bus which is a stereo unless otherwise made mono. The reason being is because most of the uses for these involve panning things to the left and right. (i.e. Drum overheads, guitars, BG Vox, etc.)
@@Homestudiosimplifed Thanks and that makes sense, I figured out how to make it print in mono, just have to set both source and destination to mono before recording.

i just install all my 64 bit and uninstall the 32 1s .do u hav any idea when am hearing a click or small lag at the beginning of the track any time am doin a melody or drums?
It sounds like a latency issue or drivers that need updated.

ITS WORKIN FINE NOW I JUST INSTALL MY 64 BITS AND UNINSTALL MY 32 BECAUSE I WAS USING THE 32 WITH THE 64 AND THAT CAUSES MY INSTRUMENTS AND DRUMS TO PLAY NOT IN TIME
