Not suprising as is a fast climb suited to riders with high power vs high wkg hence the big bunch finish vs high wkg riders splintering it up. The average speeds mean you can save more watts than oxygen vector manipulation products would give you.
@Harris Mazari This is a little surprising to me. It was a faster climb nit that steep so you would have thought he could hang in there after a good TT performance.
An interesting insight from my conversation with Jan Hirt: i was congratulating him for today because he and the team did great, ect. His response: "Thanks, but the hill was far too easy today" (for him to break away) I'm very looking forward to seeing him climbing a big hill :)
Watched this race live on a UA-cam stream last night, Pogaçar looked like winning the whole way up the hill in my book. Also, Arabic commentary is exciting! I didn't understand a word but man do they get you hyped ☺️
anyone who wants to see another amazing rein taaramae effort as climbing domestique queen stage 7 2017 tour de suisse, think stage finished in austria, absolutely gorgeous stage rein rode everyone off simon spilak , 2nd sparkling slovenien climber after brajkovic, before pog and rog but drops everyone on a climb with insane ramps, glaciers, tunnels, its stunning anyway spilak solos taaramae held onto 4th on stage hes a brute has been for while. Last year at Giro I was pulling for him on stage egan won and landa attacked. Especially in brutal conditions but any Taaramae is great in any. chapeau pour l'intermarche et bonne chance
You might need to get that Taaramae IG compilation ready again for tommorow. He said himself you pay the man 100k and he will continue to destroy pelotons
I really like these analysis of races you do. Really helps people who are new to cycling (me included) to understand what is going on. Creating some order of chaos. It makes watching this sport all the more entertaining. Thanks for your hard work!
You found the best cycling analysis on the internet at LR. He really gets the sport and is great at communicating the strategies teams are using. Unless it's Movistar then he points out that they have no coherent strategy.
Tadej seems to be on another level than the rest of the tour. He looked like he was smiling as he sprinted at the end. Watching his career so far has felt like watching a young Tiger Woods or Wayne Gretzky. Hope he can continue to do as he has done.
Heard the name Impey and as a South African from Johannesburg, immediately realised he must be Tony's son. I've bought all my bikes over the years from Tony Impey's bikeshop. He is well-known within the cycling community in Jo'burg and probably SA. I had no idea his son was in the TDF. Awesome!
In the chat on the domestique of the year podcast, i commented that the super domestique role as we used to know it seems an outdated concept with the ever-increasing specialization going on. I don't think of Morkov as a domestique or Dani Martinez or Rohan Dennis or whoever might be playing a team role at any given moment. Maybe someone like Daniel Oss in that he follows his leader, but he's not "super" in the allround sense. I thought the nearest thing was Joao Almeida, one of the best allround climby rouly boys, but not quite at the top level in anything to really threaten a stacked grand tour field. He's an excellent diesel climber but without the change of pace at the end of a brutal climb; but he's enough of a threat with his TT skills to threaten a top five, so you have to mark his decoy attacks. To be a super-dom you need a super leader, he's an excellent pickup by UAE and it's a great move for him as well as Pog. PS Are Intermarché the new EF? I'm loving their style.
0:34 Cav's steering head has come loose - his front wheel is detached from the bars. I rebuilt a bike and didn't tighten the stem enough. The front wheel is doing its own thing.
Thanks! Love that you discuss a couple of points in each stage. Gives me perspective (and sometimes I have actually figured it out before the pod!) Taaramäe and Hirt- I like this team and these guys. Hope they can take a stage soon. Ganna- always impressive. Plapp- he's a great investment for INEOS. Tom Doumulin- I really thought this would be easy for him. I hope he's building his form. I was hoping Masnada would be in the front group. Too early in the season? I liked this stage. Was that a smile on Yate's face when Tadej looked back? Thanks, LR!
@@harrismazari5484 Lmao who do you think can go against him? The closest rival he had was Roglic, the rest was riding like they are from conti team lmao
You think about two years ago when Pogacar was nearly without a team in Le Tour and had to glom onto Jumbo Visma the whole time and now how strong UAE is. It's amazing.
I thought he is normally better on these shallower climbs, so I'm a bit worried he will lose minutes on Saturday, after losing several seconds today. Wouldn't mind him proving me wrong though, he has a habit of clinging on after all.
@@fuzzybee3788 Doesn't really matter, he's a team rider, he'll do what he's told by the DS, his only focus will be Pogačar's GC. He's not riding for himself (and as a portuguese myself, that's kinda sad)

0:41 hey, the cyclist who is still lying on the ground above the white line... was he okay? Because when he fell he hit his head quite hard and then you can see him still lying there without getting up or anything... And on top of that, the person who is there with the vest doesn't seem very worried about him
I personally would be more interested in seeing him more focused in one day races or stages rather than grand tour GC. It's a very difficult transition to compete for 3 weeks GCs and I think it would be bad for him. For one week races tho, that I can get behind
nah he will win the Giro instead. when the organisers realise that he can climb, they'll just put 100 km TT in it and not too difficult mountains so Ganna never loses a lot of time. EZ dub
Pogi's hair already in peak form
Ganna staying with the group the whole climb... absolute unit.

Get the estonian soundcloud drill rap lined up!
Love the foreshadowing with Plapp's seemingly innocuous lack of tt bike becoming a crucial piece to the race.
"Ineos seem to be short of a light mountain domestique" Yeh fair play but apparently they have a 'heavy' mountain domestique in Ganna
I have an army... we have a Ganna
this was not a mountain but a prolonged power climb.
