Well you can't say to much negative about his effort he only lost ten seconds and maintained the over all lead. He rode like a beast and Yates put in one of his classic mountain rides.

Agree, Remco wanted the stage too and just rode a sustained high pace hoping to drop Yates off the wheel and/or to catch him on the less steep section…..and he nearly succeeded! Perhaps he’s slightly overconfident, but at least it makes him an entertaining and attacking rider, bit like MvdP. Always believes that he can win. 😂

I think Remco pacing up the climb eliminated any GC threat from Plapp or Bilbao. And Yates was never going to take a minute from him. If Remco is sure Yates can outsprint him for the stage win if he just follows, he may as well work in the lead over Yates. That suits his style of sustained efforts better. If he puts his hat on backwards they'll match. Or he could put his sunnies on upside-down, which is how most cyclists do it when wearing a helmet.

Okay, now that one of the Yates wins a race we have to keep pretending they are a threat to the A list riders later in the season when the real stage races start. They both need to embrace the super domestique roles at this point in their careers.

Simon Yates won a Paris-Nice stage last year though and would have won GC without VA in support of Roglic.

  • @safetyinnumbers-cardanolan745

Remco should have never pulled himself, Plapp was already behind and if he returns with any new acceleration he'd be off again. If Remco just follows Yates till the flatter part at the top he could outsprint him easily for the stage win as well as the GC

For sure he went over it, and the heat + some kgs excess weight didn't help, but overal his form is solid. He is cranking out impressive wattages on the flat, and has some work to do (altitude training camp + weight loss).

@@l.d.t.6327he was impressive considering the build up has only just started for the giro. If he takes another step roglic might be in trouble fr. I mean him being able to handle 2500+ properly would negate his only weakness left😅
