Back in the early 90s we used to call it "west coast style" or "Beat Junkie" style mixing. I've never seen a tutorial break it down so well. But, then again, it's the legendary Beat Junkies breaking down, so it makes perfect sense. Thank you for always repping L.A. & Bay to the fullest. Much Respect!
Thank you for this! I’ve come up with some sick sounding beats just by messing with putting the beat out of sync with itself by hand, but in time, (either on a quarter, an 8th or a 16th) then just moving the fader in time, going back and forth completely, as well as using the sound of both decks together. Basically you get dope sounds while just moving the fader.
Did not know it was named the "kick-pop" but I be doin that shit all the time in my mixes, I always thought it was called something else. BigUp BeatJunkies terminology💯
I love it, definitely looks hard, wicked interesting though.... Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love to DJ Babu, & DJ Melo-D, y'all are extremely appreciated ... and all the devoted, dedicated, & passionate Skratch DJ's worldwide.....
By any chance, would y'all guys know this particular break beat? The lyrics right before the break say, "i'd like to make it riiiiiight." I been wanting that break for years, but I couldn't find it. If any of y'all can help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
I grew up doing these dj things without formal training, so it always bugs me out when I hear it explained in this professional manner. Lol in fact we grew up saying, "drop it on the beat, mix with the claps" instead of "drop it on the one, mix with the snares." Like y'all said, everyone has their own name for it.
@@DJActionVasquez It's hard to say because I don't know the technique, so I don't know the subtle things about it. It just feels lacking in detail compared to other tutorials I've seen. They explain the basics but not things like why he's switching hands on the fader, and other things you'd know only as an expert
I'm on lifetime disability. Too poor for that. I like DJ Angelo's tutorials for learning hte basics. I'm at the point I can do simple beat juggling and the core scratches. My fuckin crab is painfully slow though
This is not something new, Any dj that has been dj'ing for at least 10 or more its a simple fader bouncing on a off set beat release of the record. MUCH RESPECT BUT LET'S CREATE SOMETHING NEW!!
Its s tutorial bro for people newbies they are trying to shoe old technique. These kids today just are probably lost because they aren't using buttons.

Melo-D!! So fresh, so clean!
Damn the whole time I was trying to figure this out in the 90s it was the 8th note. That took out the snare.
Advance technique of doubling and tripling starts here. Melo-D is the man.
About to try this

How about a video of Melo-D breaking down his Catch the Beat (T- Ski Valley) set. Soooooo good. "I got another funky break for you"....

I appreciate the lesson but am I the only one who feels like this is more 'showing' not teaching?
In this case, showing is teaching. It was explained and demonstrated. What else could they have done to teach more?

Finally a lesson I can do and was doing before watching the lesson! I just can't wrap my head around the strobe technique!
