When I first learned the flare techniques it was way easier for me to do a two click. It almost came naturally . But took forever to get a one click smooth. Weird.
You would think that one click would be easier. Its not. Its more difficult actually. If you think about it that cut is more precise than a two click. Especially coming from a transforming beginning and chirp style. Open fader cuts are a different breed.
Love seeing these videos and seeing the Beat Junkies channel. I've been away from DJing and scratching for a long time and watching these is helping me get back into it again. What helped me learn the 1-click years ago was watching Tony Vegas on the Scratch Perverts Tutorial videos. Basically baby scratch and use the fader to cut the sound in half forward and back.
I used to just get the first few then my fader / record hands are out of sync. Going fast just seemed impossible! Two things that I noticed that help are 1) instead of looking at the record marker, try and notice where your record hand position is when you cut with your fader hand to make a clean sound. The muscle memory seems like an easier process than trying to be reactive to a cue point. 2) for faster flares, you don't need to speed up your record hand as much as you think, just make smaller baby scratches and use the same technique as the first tip. The faster you try to speed up your baby scratches the harder it is to stay in sync. I'm much better than I used to be 6 months ago.
Bro, I wanted to come back and thank you again for sharing that advice. Those two tips have helped me immensely with many other scratches. Even my baby scratch, and scribbles are much more precise than they were before from this simple tip. Looking at my hand rather than the line on the record has helped so much for some reason. Oh my God you are right. The way he did it slow was a perfect example. It finally made since to me. I lost it when I tried to go fast. Answer Master slow, get a feel for it, you can only go fast like he did with short movements with the fader and hand. Unbelievable thank you so much. Now I need help with the crab scratch.
@@djmistadrew70 crab is easy, the secret is to use next to no force with your fingers on the fader. Also try starting to use an endless beepsound, just let it and only use your fader until you can produce 3 separate beep sounds with equal gaps between each when rolling your hand. Start slow, get it clean...and god damn it, stop using force, djing is filigree^^

I found out I've been doing these on my own without even knowing it. I gotta start practicing slow doing these. It's hard to follow along going slow but once i see it done fast I pick it up

mopre than 20 years ago a friend introduced me to the one click flare.. and once I thought I got it down on beat he said: now do it twice as fast, and I was like 🤯took me ages to become kind of decent. also easy to "unlearn" if u know what I mean

Great video! One thing you didn't cover is the fact that the faster you go, the marker no longer goes to the 3 O'clock position. Actually, it barely moves from the 12 O'clock position. Am I correct?

That's the first thing I started learning the one click flare orbit. It's taken me a good 8 months to learn it and make it sound like D. Well still not clean when I speed up! Or the chirp to 1 click flare. Just doing that for months and months! I'm not so good with transforms because of that. But working on all scratches. Crab scratch is super hard for me though still can't even perform it once! I should focus soley on transforms and crabing. If found doing transforms once forward and once back like a chirp sound that's starting to give me a little more control and timing. My stabs ate bad! Very simple need to do a batch of those in pratice every day. One day I can be proud of my self! My be start beat jugleing and using my left hand on the record. Hamster is out for me as been doing regular to long.
Just cant do that scratch without leaning on the mixer with pinky! Anybody else have that bad habit? I'm ok slow but when I speed up my hand starts making contact with the mixer lol!

So I can’t get the same sound as the video. So the foreword, you click as soon as you hear the sound, do you hit it at the same spot on the way back ? Also, you push foreword fast then slow it down, then pull back fast then slow down at the end? Ugh. Mine has this weird swing sound once I stop then pull the record back.
I learned closed still struggling to get hang of open faders, so it's 2 sound from 1 push forwards and 2 from 1 pull back then it's a flare am I right??
Yeah. With flares the number of sounds you get is equal to the number of clicks plus 1, so 1 click = 2 sounds, 2 clicks = 3 sounds etc. It's hard to get the hang of it at first, because with almost all other scratches you are starting with the fader off and tapping it on to trigger bursts of sound, while with the flare you are starting with the fader on and tapping it off to insert gaps into the sound.

TheCabz if youre just starting, I mean really starting from square one just get some cheap shit to get you going and not waste time . You will figure the rest out later. I started on some $90 belt drive turntables.
It's easy to find competent, affordable decks nowadays but I'd spend more time making sure you get a good mixer. They don't cost a fortune at entry level but u need something with a xfader or preferably another digital fader that won't wear out when u learn. It also needs a sharp cut or adjustable cut on the fader. Mixers designed for mixing records usually have little need for a sharp cut fader so many models don't have one. It won't cost you more but it's worth noting when u start out. Even a good portable and a decent crossfader would cost a fraction of turntables and allow u to get to grips with it, cheaply. They hold a good resale value too portables
This is the best tutorial on this out there. I watched others and couldn't ever grasp it. I'm flaring my ass off today

It’s the harder scratch to learn for me. So easy to understand but so hard to execute perfectly very fast. Also it’s so dope to alternate with chirps.

And you use the right hand on platter that's how I do it , it's how a dj would naturally touch the platter for mixing if you a dominant right hand

TheCabz Reloop rp8000 mk2 or 7000mk2 are both great turntables for scratching. Or get a used technics 1200
