That moment when you realize that, based on their interaction shown in the flashback, Lucifer's workshop WASN'T full of ducks when Charlie was a child.
But Lucifer entertained her with a vision of a duck turning into an angelic swan.
Implying that Charlie LIKES DUCKS.
Those ducks? They're all for Charlie. He's been, all this time, trying to make the most amazing, PERFECT toy duck to give to Charlie, and for all his attempts hasn't yet succeeded in making one he felt worthy of giving to his little girl. Which is why he has so many.

He also says outright he considers this project to be _very important_ and it is likely that the perfect toy duck he is trying to produce is meant to be an apology gift for his absence meant to give him an excuse to come in close and try and start their relationship again.
But a toy duck, no matter how awesome it is, is not a sufficient apology to make up for his neglect, and he _knows that_ which is why he keeps rejecting them.

Jeremy Jordan was perfect casting for Lucifer. I don't think anyone expected him to be like this. I expected him to be like the typical a-hole dads Vivienne makes, but no, He's a loveable goober who just wants to reconnect with Charlie. When he tried to disuade her from her dreams, it was to protect her. He might not be good at this, but you can tell he's trying, and that he genuinely loves and cares about her.

@@CircuitRebornI’m not sure after he said that, he continued by “My dreams were too hard to defend…I won’t lose it all again.” Meaning his dreams were too ambitious and dangerous in the eyes of heaven. Causing Lucifer to be casted out of heaven and Lilith out of the garden of Eden. He had to witness the worst version of humans that he caused by granting them free will never seeing the positive.
Lucifer was the one who granted them free will in the show and instead of them doing great things with it he’s seen them go the opposite direction and give in to their worst selves. All that he was telling Charlie was from his own perspective. ‘No matter how well intentioned you are they’ll just let you down.’
Not to mention that his punishment was literally not being able to see the good in things
Well that's the tragedy of heaven's punishment, really. Lucifer isn't allowed to see what good came of his gift, only the bad. That must get to you after thousands of years. And considering hell tends to have an overpopulation problem, at least according to heaven, that would probably push you to think your gift was a waste if more people squander it than savor it.
Yeah but also. Look at who Lucifer is. He has this little workshop of his, he is an inventor, a dreamer. He gave angels creation free will because I think he wanted them also to have the same opportunity as he, to invent, to create. And then heaven punished him for that letting him only see the worst kind of what came from his gift. Yeah some sinners are not really that bad but others? Instead of creating they destroy, they kill. What they did with their free will is something totally opposite to what Lucifer stands for. Instead of creation it is destruction.
All the man wanted to do was let people choose whether they wanted to be religious or not it’s not his fault that evil found its way into earth it was no way he could’ve known that was gonna happen.

Seriously, that last song with Lucifer is SO SMOOTH. It honestly feels like it belongs to an angelic being. There's not a single bad song in this show or a bad singer, but with how flawless Lucifer sings in that last song, he puts them to shame.

Feel like Alastor was so antagonistic to Lucifer maybe because he cant do anything to Lucifer. In terms of strength Lucifer is leagues above him and this was his own way to try and compensate for that
And can get away with it because Lucifer seems very passive with his overwhelming power, like Charlie
I think it was more Alastor actually wanted Lucifer to help Charlie. Ever since Lucifer first showed up at the Hotel he has been incredibly dismissive of what Charlie is doing at the Hotel, so his master manipulation skills come into work. He knows Husk's intuition on things, heard the Daddy Issues comment, and played off that. Essentially gaslighting Lucifer into wanting to help Charlie make the hotel a success.
Lucifer is literally the Varian Spinoff the Tangled fans have been asking for.

It's funny how half the fandom is like "Oh, Mimzy finally gets here." While the other half has your reaction, head scratching and asking "Who?" Lol
Mimzy has been on Hazbin character sheets for probably about as long as Angel Dust. Thats why she's got the line about 'It took a while for her to get there but she's here at last'.
She was a background character during Charlie's pilot song but this is her 1st time actually showing up for the role.
This isn't mine, and I dont remember who had brought it up, but a possible reason for Lucifer's obsession with ducks is since he's a fallen angel, he's Heaven's Ugly Duckling.
Another bit someone said was since he was only allowed to witness humanity's darkness, it makes since he'd lose faith, he has nothing to compare.

There's a theory where Lilith is the one who has a leash on alastor. Or else Alastor wouldn't have had the guts to talk back to Lucifer and wouldn't be confrontational with him the moment we saw his eyes twitching. Who else in the Pride Ring has a higher rank than the Overlords? Here's few reasons: (1) queen of hell and all demons, (2) she's been gone the same amt of yrs as Alistor has. Not to mention Alastor showed up right after Charlie tried to call her mom Probably to have him to watch over Charlie.

This is the most accurate reflection of my own reaction to Jeremy Jordan. I was shaking, crying, screaming, hyperventilating. Had to rewatch the first 5 minutes of his existence ten times before I calmed down enough to process anything that was going on other than : “JEREMY JORDAN CUTE ADORABLE BABY KING OF HELL”
Honestly while I'm still miffed about people trying to paint Alastor as a secret good guy who totally cares, I just wanna thank you for being the first person to not victim blame Husk for Alastor threatening to torture him to death
UA-camrs I used to respect who got so outraged by Valentino, completely dismissed Husk as 'shouldn't have mouthed off then' and gushing over how Alastors 'totally Charlies new daddy'
When a character is such a good manipulator he fools some of the watchers. I think we collectively forget that Alastor is a literal megalomaniac cannibalistic serial killer... BEFORE he even became a demon??
He couldn't stand not being the strongest person in the room, and he couldn't get at Lucifer physically, so of course he sussed out his biggest insecurity and weaponized his recent presence in Charlie's life against him instantly, playing up the angle more than ever before. Because if Lucifer starts sticking around, the need for Alastor's help, thus his control over the situation, could diminish. It's what he does best!
To me, that scene was a good reminder that we DON'T know what his angle is, and that he's... really not a good guy. He was slipping too much into the kooky mentor role up to that point, he needed to do something heinous. And he did!

People somehow are not noticing that Alastor was visibly getting annoyed (watch his smile and his eye start twitching) as soon as Lucifer appeared in the room. Alastor immediately started on him and was the most pissed we ever seen him. The thing with poor Husk also I think shows just how much Alastor was off his game in this episode. Husk has disrespected him before without so much as a glance from him. Lucifer pissed him off that much this time that he basically pulled a Valentino and threatened to kill him immediately..
Alastor likes attention and fear, he likes being the most powerful being in the room. We know that he doesn't like being acknowledged when Carmine snubbed him a bit at the Overlord meeting. Lucifer showing up immediately put a pin on him being the most powerful being in the room, the defacto King of Hell was not even impressed by him or knew who he was. That's why he targets Lucifer's insecurities about not being a good dad to his daughter. It's the only way he can try to one up him.
He is still mysterious which is good, hes just not good guy. Hasn't really ever been good guy.
Who the hell have you been watching? I think I've seen maybe one come even close to victim blaming Husk for making Alastor angry. Half are sad or worried for him the other half are freaking out over Horror Movie Alastor and the leash comment.

I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him..

My best friend made the terrible mistake of watching this episode with me. She quickly regretted it when I would literally squee every time Jermey Jordan would speak or sing.

Hmm… I might be in the minority, but I think Lilith might be a secret villain of the series. From the episode, Alastor was said to broadcast the Overlords he defeated over his radio waves. And Lilith was shown to inspire the people of Hell with just her VOICE. I think she made some sort of deal to deliberately be in the radio waves to so she could inspire Hell endlessly without being harmed while in exchange, Alastor basically has to do Lilith’s bidding, which one would be protect Charlie and support her.
i mean yeah also it seems like it might be her fault Lucifer wasnt a very good dad since as soon as he starts showing her something he made Lilith takes her away which he also says she hasnt called him in years so im assuming either Lilith lied to charlie or was keeping her away from him
I super agree! Also, how do we really know that Alastor was killing the overlords in the first place? He took the credit, but who's to say for sure? I definitely think Lilith was involved somewhere.

4:27 there’s a theory that Lucifer has a hyper fixation on ducks because he was Heaven’s “ugly duckling”, and I honestly agree. Tho, they could also remind him of Charlie, as she has squeaked when being hugged or hugging people.
I think Lucifer used to make toys for Charlie based on what we saw in the flashback of baby Charlie and Razzle and Dazzle so him making toys, mostly rubber ducks is his falling into depression and trying to remember good times, and the ducks end up always coming out wrong.
That said I know nothing about clinical depression and very little to nothing about psychology

I read somewhere that Lucifer's obsession with ducks may be a reference to the "Ugly Duck" tale, and to be honest I see it.
I love that Lucifer's powers are shown as bright and kind of sparkly..because he's Lightbringer.
You can't have Jeremy Jordan on your show and NOT give him an emotional power ballad. So happy to hear his voice again. His beautiful angelic voice. Words cannot describe how much I screamed and fangirled when I hear he was going to be in the show. I loved him as Varian.
The reason Lucifer likes ducks is entirely because of that flashback. Charlie was enthralled about whatever story he was going into about it, it's what little Charlie loved, so that's what he makes now that she's not in his life anymore. Given Lilith and him divorced, that might have been the last time they spent much time together at all, so he hyperfixates on that moment.
That last song is beautiful, his voice is PERFECT!
Also, Alastor was so pissed that he wasn't the strongest guy in the place so he couldn't be all confident and smug towards Charlie's dad, I guess he was worried he wouldn't be in control anymore
Your reaction to Jeremy Jordan/Lucifer is basically exactly my reaction the whole time. I freaked out for like an hour after I found out he was playing lucifer last week, and this episode did not disappoint. More than anything was exactly what I wanted from this episode.
eta: The idea I'm getting is that Lucifer offered free will to people with good intentions and expectations. And then was cast out into hell, and I think it's the first episode (?) that mentions that as punishment he's only allowed to see the bad that came from his actions. And this is what we see. We see that this punishment is actually affecting him, he's jaded, disappointed. He's lost hope that people can be good, that they can be redeemed, because he constantly sees the absolute vile and worst in them. And he doesn't want Charlie to lose that hope and be crushed the same way he was.
I always thought that scene of Lilith taking Charlie away meant that Charlie had snuck out of her room WAY past her bedtime to go see what Lucifer was up to and Lilith came to take her back to bed. It didn't seem malicious at all, and Lucifer didn't object. Yeah, he was sad, because that moment was special and fun, but he didn't look as upset as he would if Lilith was trying to drive a wedge between them.
I don't think it would've affected him that much if it was that simple. Charlie's line "I didn't really know you at all"+his sad acceptance of having her taken away, not to mention his obvious issues with self-worth, failure, and guilt regarding what he'd done, makes me think that he most likely on some level thought that Lilith was right in taking Charlie, in that she deserved better than him.

Mimzy was not talking to the characters during her part of the song, she was actually talking to the audience. Die hard fans have been waiting years to see her in the show as she was originally apart of the main cast!
MImzy acting like the audience knows her was a little shout out to people like me who've been following the series closely for years. Vivziepop drew her along with 2 other characters as part of the main cast. I imagine they were cut from the main group due to there already being a lot of characters, but they have been made some cameos in the pilot and this series. They'll probably show up later after we've spent more time with the main characters. I'm sure Mimzy will be back at some point too lol.
Anyways, I love Alastor as a character, but this episode is a good reminder that he's not a good person lol. He is still a monster, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being one of the main antagonists later on.
What I likeabout this is they don't have ANY hint of Lucifer showing bravado or trying to look imposing: guaranteeing he IS crazy powerful. So powerful he can't be intimidated by Alistar: THOUGH at the same time Alistar isn't super scared of him either confirming how OP Alistar is

Mimzy was a part of the original cast during production of Hazbin Hotel along with one other character but it looks like she has a bit part as of now. I guess she was a fan favorite and her singing bit was a reference to fans waiting for her to appear in the show.
I also love the fact that they got Sarah Stiles to voice her.

I feel like Alastor is pissy that he isn’t the strongest person in the hotel during his and Lucy’s song lmao. That or it has to do with who has him on a leash. *cough* Lilith (a theory)
I knew the moment this episode came out and hearing Jeremy Jordan’s voice was fuckin awesome he didn’t disappoint he delivered. More than anything made me so emotional like the way we just had a very fun song in Hell’s greatest dad two completely different tonal songs S tier best songs of the show. Lucifer was sm fun to watch and he’s been through sm I feel awful I’m glad he can reconnect with Charlie again. Alastor being under a leash wasn’t on my list of things that was gonna happen in this show. Alastor truly has some balls to beef with Lucifer. This episode fully showing us Alastor’s demon form was really cool and his moment with husker definitely scared me a bit😂

It was so awesome to see Lucifer finally make his debut in the show! And as usual the songs in this episode are all absolute bangers!!!
The current theory is that Alastor sold his soul to Lilith making her the one who has him on their leash. According to this theory, the true reason he works with Charlie is because she ordered him to support her.
Why he sold his soul to her varies depending on the version of theory. My personal favorite is that he sold it in exchange for the power to take down other sinners, especially Overlords, explaining how he went from a nobody to a walking nightmare seemingly overnight.
Dude I absolutely felt all the physical in verbal stimming!!! Mine was definitely more for Alastor’s demon form, and something from the next episode, it’s so awesome to see other people squeal stimming from excitement too
Having a incredible duets between Lucifer and Alastoir is hilarious and yet beautiful, the highlight of 2024!🎉

Haven't seen this yet (correct me if I'm wrong, typing quick while sleepy), but what if the imagery and obsession with ducks (and turning them into what looks like swans like with his magic) represents the classic "Ugly Duckling" scenario? He copes with these ducklings being unique and special and doing all these tricks that should bring joy. Wants them to be as special. He was a Seraphim/High Angel, a dreamer, was cast out to a world of outcasts not able to see the good of free will (cuz people clearly still go to heaven, it works both ways) due to heaven's punishment and drowned in depression.

Lucifer was a character I was interested in since the pilot. Mostly because of his character design XD. Through trailers and screenshots you could finally see something of his character, and I was just like, yep, this is my husband. And then he's also dubbed by Jeremy Jordan, who already played Varian from Tangled, and boy did he cook. This episode just confirmed me that I love this goofy apple short king dad. I hope things get better for him!

Just finished rewatching Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures before watching this episode and did the biggest double take after hearing Lucifer
My theory is that Alastor was able to rise to power so quickly is that he has a backer. I suspect he sold his soul to this backer but is still allowed to collect souls for himself.

FYI Lucifer allows the exterminations to occur on the condition that it is restricted to sinners, native hell-born demons + his wife and daughter are specifically exempt and the event is confined to the Pride Ring. He struck this deal to protect Charlie, Lilith and at least some of his people to escape Heaven's wrath, that's why he doesn't intervene, he traded his cooperation with the exterminations for his family's - and the rest of Hell's - safety.
I understand you so well because like I was not thinking that I'm going to love Vox so much, and I was sure Lucifer will be one of my favourites but he's not what I was expecting him to be at all, but I still fell in love with him❤️
I am convinced that Lilith is the real big bad behind the scenes. The fact that her face was not visible despite the pictures was concerning.
Lucifer despite being the ruler of hell, is still a true blue angel. My impression is that the Lucifer we see is still the Lucifer at the beginning of creation. A goofy well meaning angel who wanted to do good, but made a terrible mistake.
Lilith on the the other hand is not. She is in essence the first sinner. Her influence empowering the demons and the reason the exterminations were needed. I think her vision remains the same, but sadly more extreme.
She wants the same paradise, she told Charlie, but at the cost of everything else, meaning the destruction of earth and heaven. The realms she felt were spurned by.

Had to check that this wasn't repeated in the comment section, but fun fact: Mimzy is a long time old hazbin hotel character. She's been around since hazbin was attached to the same universe as Zoophobia before viv split the two stories. So the song of her sayin shes finally here is a nod to the old fans. Another fun fact is that there was an old concept of mimzie bein more familiar with alastor, spawnin some fans to believe they may have known each other in Life too. I can imagine how happy the older fans are with her appearance, her closeness to alastor, and just her flare overall.
I do hope they do bring her back in since her backstory is hella sad and be an interestin take on redemption.
Upon reflection of the Alastor v Lucifer dynamic, I kinda get the feeling that Alastor did that to specifically get Lucifer to support the hotel. He knows he can't force Lucifer to support it but he can manipulate him.
Husk saying Alastor is one a leash as well...him and Lilith being gone for 7 years and Alastor just happening to show up at the perfect time for Charlie........I'm thinkin Lilith owns his ass and sent him to help her daughter. In the pilot Charlie calls her mom and mere moments later Alastor knocks on her doors, Lilith probably sent him to check on things and her daughter (the reason he was already "in the neighborhood" sorta speak when he saw her on the news) and then once she got the voicemail immediately ordered her scary little pet to go do whatever she asks of him.
Perhaps he struck a deal with her when he first arrived in Hell and that's why he was an instant powerhouse able to rival all other Overlords. Perhaps she's working on something and forced him along for the ride similar to how he's dragged Husker into being the bartender.
Lucifer is obsessed with ducks because he is the ugly duckling in his scenario with Heaven. It's really sad...

I have a feeling Alastor made a deal with Lilith and she’s going to be one of if not the main villain of the show. For a few reasons:
1. Alastor said he had been gone for 7 years. And Lucifer mentions Lilith has gone for 7 years.
2. Lilith’s face is always blurred or blocked out. And on her trading card from the pre order package, she’s siting on a throne in the dark with an evil smile and no eyes.
3. When she took Charlie away from Lucifer, he looked genuinely heartbroken. Which makes me think Lilith kept them apart against his willl.
I love Jeremy Jordan's work as Varian in Tangled: The Series. Also Cass x Older Varian is my OTP.
