      Y’all are so young and I love that you have big goals for yourselves! Just know that you CAN do anything you set your minds to! Keep in mind that math is only one component to such a rewarding career that there is so much more to! You still have plenty of time to work on your math skills, so please don’t let that discourage you! I’m no Anesthesiologist, but I am a nurse, and I absolutely love what I do! There are so many things you can do in the field of healthcare and it’s such a rewarding field! I can’t imagine working in any field other than healthcare. If I wasn’t a nurse, I don’t even know what else I’d be! Lol. Math is a big part of nursing also and it wasn’t my strongest subject, but I focused more on turning that weakness into something stronger to make my dreams come true, and you can too! Seriously though, you guys keep those goals high, don’t get discouraged by a weakness, just work your butt off and turn it into a strength because you CAN, remember that YOU are in charge of your future and CAN do anything you are driven to do, and ALWAYS always believe in yourself!!! You have the world at your fingertips and I have faith that you’ll do great things!!!❤️

    11:00 Funny story on "Time Out"
    A few years back I had to have surgery on my foot. The nurse came up with a Shapee and said she wanted to mark the foot I was having worked on so they didn't "fix" the wrong foot.
    I said, "I don't think that is going to be a problem." and pulled my covers up so she could see I was an amputee.
    The look of utter horror on her face really really cracked me up. She realized she had just committed some kind of class 10 faux pas.
    She marked my foot anyway, which the doctor got a huge kick out of.

    I've never had an anesthesiologist like you. I am pregnant with baby number 3, all three will have been C-sections. In 2012 with my first daughter they actually put me to SLEEP for reasons I still don't fully understand. I was in labor for days and told them the entire time I had the epidural that it wasn't working. They all kept assuring me (even my husband) that I was simply feeling pressure, not pain. Fast forward to my emergency C-section, they tried the epidural again, then a spinal (to my recollection). When nothing 'took' and I could still feel pain they put me out very quickly. It was incredibly traumatic and causes me so much anxiety. My most recent C-section in 2018 went very smoothly. No problems with the spinal, but I did not connect with my anesthesiologist at all. They weren't warm or comforting and didn't speak much, English wasn't his first language and that caused a barrier for us, I believe? I wonder if there is a way that I can request a female anesthesiologist this time around. I wish more than anything I could have someone amazing like you by my side!! I know this comment is long, but I've been watching your videos back to back all day and your patients are so lucky to have you. Any insight on my first C-section where I was put out? My current OB is baffled and couldn't even explain it to me! Thanks for all you do.

    • @zachbunch8701
      @zachbunch8701 4 роки тому +3

      Maybe due to the emergency c-section and your epidurals not working they put you out for your safety as well as the child? Not sure, not a doctor. That's all I can think of though.

I haven't been able to find an anesthesiologist to shadow (understandably, after watching your videos) and I really feel like I just shadowed you. My anesthesiologist was an angel when I was in labor. My contractions were so close together and intense, and he had literally everything working against him at the time. The epidural kits he was given weren't complete for some reason, and he went through three of them before he was able to do my epidural. Took him a couple sticks to find the right space. He was so calm and worked quickly to help me out. He gave me a shot of pain meds in the catheter to give me some relief before the epidural kicked in. I was finally able to relax for like 20 minutes before pushing. I progressed reeeeally fast.

    Loved hearing you talk about spinal headaches! I have psudeotumor cerebri and after a lumbar puncture developed a spinal headache. When the doctor who gave me the lumbar puncture saw me again, to give me a blood patch, it was exactly like you said! The second he walked in he knew what it was, even though every other medical professional I had encountered for the two previous days didn't believe that I had one. (also, when he went back in for the blood patch, he attempted to get my pressure again and I had been leaking so much CSF that he couldn't get a reading after half an hour and put it in the notes as a dry tap)

    Thank you for talking about spinal headaches! I had 2 epidurals, b/c the first caused a drop in blood pressure and feeling like I couldn’t breathe. The anesthesiologist did some education to inform me that there might have been a puncture in my dura. I ended up having a spinal block in a c-section, which again caused almost passing out and feeling like I couldn’t breathe. I recovered, but developed a spinal headache about 24 hours later. I’ve never had such a rough week in my life lol. We all survived it. There is a noise in your head that does not go away until the headache resolves. The Percocet combined with lots of caffeine and Motrin did help a little when I had appointments. I did have a blood patch in the hospital, but the headache continued. I would opt for just a spinal with any future babies! Epidurals are wonderful while they work 😁 , but I just had a fluke experience and slightly unusual anatomy, from what the anesthesiologist said at the blood patch. Thank god for what you do! ❤️

    I had a spinal fusion for scoliosis years ago. I have long lasting neurological disorders from the mistakes made during the surgery. As well as actual damage to my spine from the scoliosis curve growing for so long. There's a long story behind it. From 12 to 19 the curve grew as they tried to figure out what to do. It was my lumbar curve. Fused from L1-L5 in the surgery that went wrong. I had already had surgery for the top curve. It's fused from T1-T12 with a Harrington rod. I have severe stenosis, cauda equine (?spell) DDD, etc. The list goes on. My spines a mess. During that fusion my medical records show the word blood patch multiple times. I've tried to find out what it was and what it might have done to me. Until I was watching your video just now. I never knew the answer. So, thank you!! It helps me understand a bit more what happened, went wrong, and the long term side effects better.

    PS I HATED getting my epidural for my first born because it hurt so badly...for me the epidural was the worse part of labor for me. Never had another one done because of that. I wish you could share with every doctor your secrets for no burning lol.

    It's really cool to just get an insight into what anesthesiology really is at its core. A lot of people want to join just for the "money", but it was extremely refreshing to just see someone with a true passion for their profession, so thank you! I am a high school student and was wondering if there's a way I can actually shadow an anesthesiologist, and even go into an OR to explore my passion and interests?

    Hello. I just subscribed to your most informative channel! Thanks for explaining why some surgeries are cancelled due to high blood pressure. I have just started on BP meds so your explanation makes me understand why this is so important to take. Haven't had cancelled surgeries but good to know I am doing something important for my body in case of emergencies. Thanks!

    I just found your channel and I needed to partake in conversation. When I had my son they accidently wet tapped me when they did my epidural. I instantly felt like my head was gonna explode and so were my hips. So they tried a second time and it was successful. Fast forward 2 days later on the trip home that same headache came back. I went back to the OB ER and the anesthesiologist said my story sounded wonky and sent me home. The next day I was the same way he looked at me again and finally decided to do a blood patch and the headache instantly disappeared and I was an entirely different person. 🙃 I would do all of it all over again though for the most amazing little man!

    When you talked about ur nanny and how she has to to come to your house so early it reminded me of a program where you can hire girls from around the world to come and stay with you and your family for up to 2 years. during that time they can help take care of your children and help around the house. I have been using this program since my kids were 5 years old and they are now 13. There are many different agencies but the agency I used was called “aupair care” I recommend you try it.it’s VERY convenient and you can hire girls from any place in the world.

      I’ve had a bowel resection before and about to have another one and honestly any normal person would be scared in the beginning, but you’re gonna get knocked out and next thing you know they’ve been done with the surgery and you’re just wakin up. You’re throat will also be sore due to having a breathing tube while you’re asleep but best thing is to be optimistic and not pessimistic
