Perfect timing for today's video. I'm an ahem, slightly older (55), anesthesiologist who recently found your channel. Firstly, gotta say I love your content. Its factually accurate and emotionally comforting, at the same time. You have single handedly done our specialty a huge service.
Secondly, I have found myself recently thinking what would you do or say to your patients when I'm in a "difficult" situation. Not medically, but shall we say more in terms of communication and bedside manner. While it's easy for anyone to "Monday Quarterback" any complaint, you seem to be spot on more often than not. I know my patients have benefited from you as much as I have.
So from one anesthesiologist to another, keep up the great work. And oh yeah, the site of a trauma helicopter still gets this old doc's blood flowing. Cheers...

The sight of a trauma helicopter still gets this old nurse’s blood rushing too!! 😉 Beautiful words & spot on, exactly how I feel about Kristina too-I would be honoured to be her patient if the need arose-but difficult tho, since I live down under!

What a thoughtful and genuine comment. Its truly wonderful to see another doctor go out of their way to express this level of support to another person in their profession. It shows a tremendous amount of character.
Just reading your comment, I can sense that Dr Peyton Dearborn not only admires Dr Braly's work ethics and commitment to the profession but Dr Dearborn also has an enormous amount of respect Dr Braly herself. Its beautiful to see a stranger who also carries the same credentials, put forth the effort to not only share their support to Dr Braly but to also publicly endorse her work and give her support and encouragement. Such an incredibly powerful act of kindness and positivity.
Its such a beautiful display of love for the field of medicine and gratitude towards their peers. You, Dr. Dearborn, have unique insight into the job and expertise that it takes to carry out these important and demanding tasks. So for you to demonstrate how much you appreciate her experience in anesthesiology and acknowledge the courage it takes to be an anesthesiologist because you know that it takes tremendous care to perform such delicate procedures with precise methods often under stressful conditions, is incredible. The fact that you applaud her bravery in not only her medical career but also in her teachings as a content creator is a huge deal. You encouraging Dr Braly to continue educating people online about medical care is thoughtful and inspired.
Dr Braly's informative videos are genuine, insightful, fascinating, full of factual information, thoughtfully presented with evidence that educates the viewers about hospital procedures and options. She presents her skills in a way that is calming and healing. Im sure potential patients look up her videos to gain knowledge of what they can expect if they find themselves in need of care under an anesthesiologist. I imagine possible patients feel more comfortable and confident because they gained this knowledge as a result of this channel. Her content also provides potential medical students with additional insight into this specific specialty.
And, I'm not even talking about all the extras and non-medical videos she shares. I could go on about those too. Basically, everything about this channel is amazing and I wanted to say thank you Dr Dearborn for your acknowledgement and support for Dr Braly's work.
Dr Braly and Dr Dearborn, thank you for your skills in helping patients and keeping them safe and comfortable during crisis, emergencies, scary situations, elective procedures and both joyful and difficult births and beyond. Medicine today wouldn't be as advanced, safe and effective without the delicate, precise care of anesthesiologists like you both. You are making a huge difference in countless lives. Thank you.
I appreciate and applaud your dedication to helping people in need. Thank you for your ability to heal and comfort. You often exceed the expectations of your job description by extending your care to your patient's concerned loved ones and I hope you know that this doesn't go unnoticed either. I am grateful for your kindness and positivity. I am thankful for your knowledge. skills and ability to heal. I am grateful for your commitment, bravery and compassion. Thank you

I'm a nurse, hearing that you stayed late to extubate a patient that you'd gotten to know during the surgery really made me respect and love you more than I already do (I've been watching you for YEARS, like pre move to NC and before Harper!), and you're such a team player with helping out with staffing. I've loved seeing your channel evolve over the years and although I'm not a mother and don't plan to be I still love seeing your family and how you've chosen to raise Harper thus far. I so needed this! I was just notified of a patient initially testing negative that i helped intubate as an anesthesia tech without n95/capr/papr due to the negative test was a false negative.
My hospital doesn’t want us wasting ppe on negative patients but now i don’t care after being exposed due to a false negative, i’m doing the whole shebang.

And I absolutely agree with you, it’s your choice to wear a mask, and a smart choice, this case especially proves it! If anyone says something about ‘wasting’ PPE in future, let them know about this, and hopefully they’ll realise it’s the smart thing to do.

I'm very familiar with A-fib! The Swedish side, my Dad's side, are peppered with A-fib. I have chronic A-fib. After several cardio versions, 2 TEE's, 3 ablations, even the best Dr in the state couldn't fix me lol. He's now our areas Chief Medical Officer and is the kindest person ever. He just attained this position right before Covid-19. My Dad, cousin and I all went to him. He used to practice at West Michigan Heart. His name is Daryl Elmouchi MD and deserves so much praise. He's made my afib life 100 times better. I had a very long 10 years of shirt of breath, tachycardia, etc. Each ablation, although not cured, made such a difference❤️ and TY Kristina for all you do bring on the front line. Stay safe and be well❤️🙏

Regarding UV-C, I have a UPANG sterilizer and am totally in love with it. We originally got it for our baby bottles and her toys & pacifiers but it’s used for the tv remote, car keys, cell phones, credit cards, wallets, etc. You can fit a ton of things in there and it’s 150% a great investment for today’s world and current situation. The bulbs are good for about 6,000 hours (or 5,000...either way a ton of hours) and you can buy replacement bulbs. It’s pricey but worth it’s weight in gold. It’s a home device for sure (or an office setting if others are willing to put in money for it).

Dr Braly I just started watching your videos & I really enjoy learning about what you do. I actually live in Houston/ Harris county and I have had surgery at Memorial hospital. I am concerned about the virus and Gov Abbotts lack of concern to the uprising in COVID 19 hospitalizations while we still open up to a higher capacities in businesses . I see so many not wearing masks like it is some sort of conspiracy. Our "leader" is more concerned about twitter and rallies so that he can hear the claps to feed his narcissism. If he wore a mask like a "big boy" citizens would not be so confused on the validity & danger of the virus. I see it as a respect for others in our community. We have to care about our community & it saddens me that life is being taken for granted. "I can't breathe" refers to both serious issues in our social climate & none of it is a joke or fallacy. The fact that black lives are being both lost by our own justice system & now also our health system is beyond tragic & we can all do our part somewhere to make a difference.
Abbott says we have the bed capacity in Texas...so what!? So let the healthcare workers get exposed, the community gamble with their lives & take a chance in dying from this because there is a bed for them? What is your view on this since you are in the hospital and see exactly what is happening? We should obviously stay vigilant & utilize the mitigation tactics to lessen the spread but do you feel like that is enough? That 6 feet is a joke in a grocery store & the mask protects others. The people that do not wear one put everyone else at risk still...is that still the case? Do you think we are about to be over run by this with us about to hit the 2 week mark since the protests began? Are the death rates climbing aggressively or is it just hospitalizations with most recovering? It is so important that we know the truth. I have to protect my parents and children. I would like to save and protect all of us...
Thank you for being on the frontlines and sharing your experience. I truly value & appreciate you.

@@AM-ss5fo Different states have different scopes of practice, and different hospitals have different policies. That's like saying because a nurse-midwife can deliver a baby vaginally, why would an obstetrician do it, isn't that Medicare fraud? (The answer is no, by the way). If you want physician salaries to decrease, there needs to be some serious reduction of the cost of medical education.
I'm a little puzzled why you'd come on someone's channel and insult their profession this way. It's really not necessary.

Do you actually do these procedures or just provides anesthetics for them? Thanks! Anesthesiologist in the making!!

asya smith sorry it’s a bad habit! Those of us in anesthesia tend to call it by the surgery/case rather than the “anesthesia for a [surgery/case]” because it’s a mouthful! But yes it’s just the anesthetics that I’m administering! You don’t want me doing your surgery! 😂

What happens if a patient comes in unconscious and requires anesthesia but usually has issues w it, or someone who’s been using hard drugs but unconscious, are there any harmful side effects , or is there different protocol for unconscious patients?

Ah! 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. I remember that shift well. I liked it because the operating rooms didn't really get jumping until about 10:00 a.m. It's much easier to clean the autoclave and stock the o.r.'s when one doesn't have to go upstairs to transport patients, or race down to the blood bank, etc. I miss working in the operating room, but my body could barely take all that physicality when I was 21, I know for sure I can't do anything remotely like that at my current "ancient creakage" (ha ha!) of 53! Besides which, I get a lot of thrills being an Abstract painter. Every day it's going to be a close call with breathless excitement: Will I drop a heavy stretched canvas on one or both feet? Will I stab myself with my #11 Xacto knife blade as I try to keep it from rolling off my drawing table? Will that bottle of 91% Isopropyl alcohol spill all over the floor and guarantee I won't get my security deposit back? Ha ha.
