I don’t consider any digital consoles to ever be “retro” Retro is a term to differentiate technological eras. So 360 would be considered “classic modern”

I think GameStop carrying retro games again is a good thing overall but I think how they're handling it so far is not. Essentially selling counterfeit games is unacceptable. Just don't carry those systems at all if you aren't going to make sure you're accepting and more importantly selling a genuine product. It seems like the presentation of each retro store is going to vary greatly based on store space and the management of each individual store so it will be inconsistent throughout. Do better GS, do better.
Facebook post blocked me for saying this comment so I'll post it here I remember when everybody was getting a PlayStation 2 and I still had a PlayStation 1, I went inside a GameStop asking if they had any PlayStation 1 games. One of the employees said that they didn't sell games like that and the vibe that I got was that they made me feel very stupid for being a poor kid What makes me upset now is that all of a sudden GameStop wants to get into the business of retro games. The GameStop that I went closed a while after and I hope that GameStop retro doesn't have the same success or if they do they better sell cheap games
I'm very lucky to have a great second hand store in my home town that has albums, cd's, dvd's and obviously... games by the bucket load! The owner, however, is getting older and the store is closed more than open these days. I'll be literally devastated when it's gone for good. There is nothing quite like the old school stores.
When people think retro gaming, they think carts first. It's an obvious money play for Gamestop(which isn't surprising), but dropping the ball so bad where the oldest thing you see is a xbox 360 title is hilariously bad.
I’ve been going to the same GameStop for 10+ years and I’m a true collector now , if your a returning customer you can definitely get case swaps and etc
I’m just glad that they are stocking 7th gen stuff again, there are still a lot of games I need to cross of my list! The manager at the retro store I went to said that since this is all so new, most stores don’t have a lot of stock yet. They did have older gen stuff (NES, Genesis, etc) but they weren’t on the shelf yet. BTW, that Blitz game was mispriced (you can see on the sticker it says XBOX 360). This lack of knowledge can sometimes be used against them and you can score great deals. I’m willing to wait several months for them to get fully up and running before I give a verdict.
Yep. Some of their stuff is way overpriced but occasionally they’ll mess up. I got spider man shattered dimensions for around 20 bucks a few years ago. It was going for triple that on ebay. Now it’s floating around the 100 dollar mark I believe.
Haven’t been to GameStop in years I mean years! This won’t change anything for me. In the area I live in is a nice local retro game store that sells great retro stuff, consoles, games, and even all of the more modern stuff whole Xbox line up, PlayStation line ups and current gen games ps5/xbox series X. Been showing them love and support for years now and they grown so much from being a small store to double the size and growing. Great customer service and people who genuinely love gaming not like GameStop employees who don’t know a thing about anything
U can buy a hacked ps3 and xbox 360 for 200 each. Comes with all the games. I know not physical hardware and game cases but get all games. May even be cheaper than 200.
Hell, I wouldn't pay that much for any sports game, especially any modern sports game. Maybe for some classic ones on the SNES or Genesis I would, but not for most modern ones. Plus most modern sports games suck anyway IMHO.
360/ps3 IS retro now lol. It's like when i hear Linkin Park being considered classic Rock. The truth hurts because it makes me feel old but it's still the truth lol.
Just visited one a few days ago. I didn't expect much. The problem is they don't have enough inventory or space. Most gamestops I've been to have pop bobble heads and toys taking up half the shelving space
I was around during the first PC's. When Oregon trail and where in the world is Carmen San Diego came in a selection of two colors. Either green and black, amber and black, or white and black. 5 1/4" floppy disks and DOS were the standard, and consoles like Atari and intellivision were the most advanced things you could get. If course, nothing best the well done arcades of the era. Especially when there was neon adding ambience to the room. Oh the memories GameStop will never even begin to understand.
I'm a 7th gen collector and I would love to browse PS3 and 360 games, but I'm definitely not doing it at GameStop. I'd rather visit a smaller shop that actually runs their business well and doesn't have a terrible CEO driving it into the ground. Also these prices are dumb.
They should stay away from carts because last time people were bringing in fake carts and scamming them. I would go past the PS1 and the only carts I’d take would be the N64 with testing.
Yeah, these “Retro” stores are basically just a section full of previous gen games you would usually see at GameStop 7 years ago. Maybe you’ll find some GameCube, N64, and SNES games here and there, but you’re mostly looking at PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii stuff.
I remember when a Classic Rock station that typically played songs from 70s-80s and then years later started playing songs also from 90s and early 00s it through me for a loop. But makes sense with the passage of time. Like for me I used to think PS1 and before was retro. Now PS3 and before has become retro, which is still crazy to think about. I just hooked back up my PS3, and plan to play some games on there.
That's too bad. A lot of these retro games need updates and patches to even be playable at this point. And Visions of Mana is great. All those developers deserved far better than what they got. Game is beautiful and as close to open world as Ive seen in Seiken Densetsu games.
What are you talking about? Anything that was updated at some point will still have access to the updates when you pop it in the console. Anything before patching was ever a thing need nothing except preferably old tv for the time as HD can look bad with old hardware.
To be fair you're really knowledgeable on retro stuff. Collecting from years ago. Their starting with this road. Let's see what future brings us with their new approach.
I think cars are considered a classic when they hit 25 years. 25 years ago was Xbox ps2 and prior if I’m not mistaken. That seems good to me. The 360 and ps3 not so much retro yet to me. Stay cool Reggie 🤙
I started collecting retro-games NES, SEGA Genesis, etc. But I got sick of paying the high prices, got a Pandora with 28,600 games. I love it! And have much more money now.
about a week ago i went to my local gamestop and as im walking in this guy had 2 boxes full of games, i believe he was towards the end of this transaction. he said out of all the games he had, they only told about 20 because they can't take everything game depending in the title. So i said said hey I'll buy them if you dont mind. we did the transaction to the side inside gamestop. i bought about 100+ games for the LOW lol. but they only took all the popular games like Mario, zelda and etc.
Before GSRetro I was looking for mw2 for the 360 at game stops, 2 stores and all I could find was, mind you IN BOTH STORES, portal 2, Batman, Minecraft, some EA games, and that was it, at least that what I remember. I just ended up getting portal 2
Your Gamestop seems a lot better than most of the ones near me. You should have picked up that copy of Gravity Rush Remastered on PS4 and Spiderman Web of Shadows on the 360. Both are pretty valuable and getting hard to find
I dont think anyone considers The Last of Us to be retro therefore I just can't accept the ps3 and for that matter the entire seventh generation of gaming to be "retro" perhaps a new type of retro the sixth and seventh gen of games should be called... like post-retro or modern-retro or perhaps 3-D retro which I guess should include 5th generation games as well... which actually... sounds good to me lol idk
Where I live there is a GameStop that has kept retro games this whole time, so their retro selection is usually pretty different because they actually care. But they had to fight with the hireups to maintain that section all these years. Gamestop doesn't truly "care" about retro, they just realized they messed up not capturing the market retro game stores and resellers have sooner
How is their Sega Genesis and NES collection? I’m currently looking for a copy of Little Samson, but I want a super good deal on it. Not eBay pricing. Hoping to find one at my local GameStop Retro!
I don’t think that would exactly entice people to go there especially for most collectors SNES and 64 games can be found almost anywhere especially for the more common stuff.
It also just launched. In order for them to have retro games with national availability. People have to be willing to trade stuff in. It will probably take them a 2 years+ to get it right(if ever) ultimately I think they will as this is likely the key to the company's survival. 10th gen consoles will not have physical disc's only likely. This has to work if Gamestop has any change of continuing
Yeah I went to one of their “retro” stores a few weeks ago, it was a regular gamestop store and they had small corner in the back of the store with “retro” games. All it was xbox360 and ps3 games. I was hoping for older gen games and consoles.

retro is pre-2000s/PS2/OG Xbox era (for me at least) The Xbox (and arguably also 360) era were an insane leap in technology, not just in gaming but also in the entertainment industry as a whole. Hence why, every new generation of gaming since then doesn't seem all that much of an improvement in an overall technical sense. Seems to be more of a prioritization these recent gaming generations of just doing the same things but super faster (via SSD and other stuff) and super polished (via remasters/remakes of older games, while also newer sequels and even IPs not looking all that much of a technological leap). - late 20s gamer btw

I did stop in one of my local gamestops and the retro section was just a rack with some of the old games inside it.
I think the problem is their subjective definition of “retro” is not quite in line with what many other people consider it to be.
Facebook post blocked me for saying this comment so I'll post it here
I remember when everybody was getting a PlayStation 2 and I still had a PlayStation 1, I went inside a GameStop asking if they had any PlayStation 1 games. One of the employees said that they didn't sell games like that and the vibe that I got was that they made me feel very stupid for being a poor kid
What makes me upset now is that all of a sudden GameStop wants to get into the business of retro games. The GameStop that I went closed a while after and I hope that GameStop retro doesn't have the same success or if they do they better sell cheap games
Just found Mad Dog McCree (Wii) at Gamestop for $15- Currently going for around $50! Woot!!
I want this to work, but with GameStop doing it, it's never going to.
Retro is pre-hd era. Would that make a new genre for hd-retro?
I'm very lucky to have a great second hand store in my home town that has albums, cd's, dvd's and obviously... games by the bucket load! The owner, however, is getting older and the store is closed more than open these days. I'll be literally devastated when it's gone for good. There is nothing quite like the old school stores.
I got more retro stuff in my room then they have in their whole store.
Man, I haven't been to GameStop for so long that GameStop Retro is how I remembered the last time I was there.
They need to bring back Funcoland before GameStop closed it down.
When people think retro gaming, they think carts first. It's an obvious money play for Gamestop(which isn't surprising), but dropping the ball so bad where the oldest thing you see is a xbox 360 title is hilariously bad.
That's because 360 is considered retro now.
it would be cool to see Gamestop right their ship but they haven't made a profit in years so I don't think they will be around too much longer sadly
somebody just told me they turned profitable 6 months ago officially under new management, but can't verify that
I’ve been going to the same GameStop for 10+ years and I’m a true collector now , if your a returning customer you can definitely get case swaps and etc
Not even a resellers paradise. All that stuff you showed is junk for reselling 😂
I bet our collections are better than all these retro stores put together.
@@ggary04Pretty much 😂. It’s to be expected tho. This might be a ploy to have people sell their good games
65$ for Blitz The League, are they out of their fucking minds!? :V
Have the prices for Xbox really gotten that high? That’s wild!
The actual market value of Blitz isn't even 10% of that; whoever did the pricing is just crazy.
Hell, I wouldn't pay that much for any sports game, especially any modern sports game. Maybe for some classic ones on the SNES or Genesis I would, but not for most modern ones. Plus most modern sports games suck anyway IMHO.
"it's old, just price it high"
360/ps3 IS retro now lol. It's like when i hear Linkin Park being considered classic Rock. The truth hurts because it makes me feel old but it's still the truth lol.
Nah, it's not the truth at all. People don't know what they're talking about.
Also you’re right, it does sometimes depend on where you are. Some areas have a significant larger selection of retro.
Awww man….and I was kind of excited to be taking a trip to one soon. Thanks for saving me transportation money!
The one by me has cartridge games. A employee opened a copy of Metroid Fusion for me to check the board and i grabbed it
I still have my my GBA Metroids fully boxed and complete. Are they worth anything?
@CrAzYpotpie price charting has complete Metroid Fusion for 138
@@tboneplisken4086 Wow, why? That was a pretty popular game, I thought they produced a bunch. I will check out price charting, thank you.
@CrAzYpotpie any cartridge based game CIB in a cardboard box has went up a bit. GBA cardboard is hard to find in good condition
I have fusion… great game. No box though 😢
My last two experiences at GameStop were terrible. I prefer to support my local retro game stores.
I could be completely wrong but I have a feeling the selection will get better over time... at least I hope.
0:49 Thats OG Xbox Blitz and they have it labeled and priced as the 360 Blitz 😂
The 360 version is only 30-40 max on PC.
@@nathanstreilein758 yeah it's still too high but if you look at the price label it says xb360.
@@nathanstreilein758 yeah. Rip off 😆
Playstation 2 and back is retro. I wish I never sold my collection to begin with. Thanks for the great video
Bruhhh, 80s and 90s games should be considered antiques by now... And below the 80s should be called artifacts 😂
Pawn Shops and Thrift Stores have real Retro games. Other than that, eBay and Amazon.
0:49 $65 for a "pre-owned" game. Is GameStop crazy? The answer is a resounding "YES!"
6:20 a GameStop local to me actually sells movies and tv shows 😂
Yeah, these “Retro” stores are basically just a section full of previous gen games you would usually see at GameStop 7 years ago.
You gotta look at the fact that a lot of current gamespot employees have no clue what a sega Genesis even is😂😂.
Mine was pretty good! They had more high dollar ones in the glass case in the back, including hardware.
This feels like a hard way to clear out your non selling items.
Is gamestop still a thing?:)
Some how yes
I started collecting retro-games NES, SEGA Genesis, etc. But I got sick of paying the high prices, got a Pandora with 28,600 games. I love it! And have much more money now.
DS, ps2, gamecube, and og Xbox are still the latest retro systems, this is a disaster lol
A small store called 2nd & Charles has great retro items. They have old school games dating back to Atari 2600.
Been going there since it was Electronic boutique, so for nostalgic purposes, I will always support them.
They are visionaries. Selling now what will be retro in a decade!!
about a week ago i went to my local gamestop and as im walking in this guy had 2 boxes full of games, i believe he was towards the end of this transaction. he said out of all the games he had, they only told about 20 because they can't take everything game depending in the title.
I was expecting to see Nintendo, SNES, Sega, etc. talk about disappointing.
They already set up some Game Stop Retro store here in North Texas.
Imagine if gamestop shut down tho and we had 0 game stores we'd all be sad asf about it
Gamestop employees that have not heard of Nintendo or SNES cartridges. Idk if I should laugh or cry.
Hard to consider anything in the HD era "retro". Retro is 6th gen and earlier to me.
Where I live there is a GameStop that has kept retro games this whole time, so their retro selection is usually pretty different because they actually care. But they had to fight with the hireups to maintain that section all these years. Gamestop doesn't truly "care" about retro, they just realized they messed up not capturing the market retro game stores and resellers have sooner
make sure you check the discs before buying, i found some discs that are very badly resurfaced or scratched
Game Stop needs to be careful, selling a repro (counterfeit) as a legit product or even as an illegitimate product is a felony in the U.S.
PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 are retro man, we are old!
How is their Sega Genesis and NES collection? I’m currently looking for a copy of Little Samson, but I want a super good deal on it. Not eBay pricing. Hoping to find one at my local GameStop Retro!
None existent to the store unfortunately.
It looks like a mass collection of games that never sold in those $5 dollar bins they used to have
Guess it kind of depends where you're at. My store had SNES games and N64 games.
I am definitely going to have to check this retro store out I didn’t know we had them in Washington state now.
When you panned that shelf of Gameboy advance I got tingles 😂 heat
Yeah I went to one of their “retro” stores a few weeks ago, it was a regular gamestop store and they had small corner in the back of the store with “retro” games. All it was xbox360 and ps3 games. I was hoping for older gen games and consoles.
I dont personally consider ps3 and those games retro, but it did come out 18 years ago so i get where theyre coming from. Im pretty sure this is just what getting old is
Great video Reg! They have shipped me so many fake gba carts over the years I don’t even look there anymore and fake controllers especially PS3 ones.
retro is pre-2000s/PS2/OG Xbox era (for me at least)
The Xbox (and arguably also 360) era were an insane leap in technology, not just in gaming but also in the entertainment industry as a whole.
When I hear retro, I’m thinking of Coleco, Atari and NES. Damn I feel old! 🤣
I don't know why you would think it's a paradise for re sellers. Gamestop keeps up with current game prices on most older gen stuff. I collect and constantly check Gamestop, very rarely do ai fi d a good deal. Even newer games, Deadpool for the Xbox One $75? Just crazy.
