- Hanns Wolf (sometimes incorrectly called Hans Wolf; June 7, 1894 - July 2, 1968) was a post-romantic and modern composer, pianist and music professor, nearly all his works were destroyed after World War II. Due to this, Wolf was nearly forgotten until 1996 when he was rediscovered by Karl Urlberger.
Work: Piano Concerto in C-sharp minor (1929)
Mov.I 00:00
Mov.II 15:41
Mov.III 24:30
Pianist: Dana Borsan
Orchestra: Philharmonic "Moldova" Iasi
Conductor: Sebastien Rouland
Beautiful muisc! It took a while before finding some more information on this to me unknown composer, but finally got it:Born: 7 June 1894 - Bamberg - Germany
Died: 2 July 1968 - Fuessen - Germany. Almost his complete oeuvres were destroyed towards the end of war, in 1944. (Classical composers database)
Excellent initiative to dust this long forgotten composer !
Almost all his work were gone, how terrible.
Arnold Goverde -- Yes...YES...and BRAVO from Oaxaca !
.....even better now a year later......from Acapulco!
Felicitari talentatei pianiste Dana Borsan din Romania si Orchestrei Filarmonicii "Moldova" din Iasi, Romania pentru interpretarea cu maiestrie a acestui frumos si interesant concert!
a really good composition....impressive...so unknown but so good. sad that there is not much more available from him...
This is from the 2011 George Enescu Festival.
There is another recording, with the same pianist, that contains Wolf's piano concerto, 4 "Bauerntänze" (peasant or barn dances?) for strings, "Springbrunnen" piano etude, piano rearrangement of a minuet by leopold mozart, and piano paraphrase on Strauss ii's "Wiener Blut". The orchestra in this recording is National Radio Orchestra of Romania conducted by Ludovic Bacs.
Karl Urlberger rediscovered Wolf's works and released these records on his own label ("KU Classics", which I am not sure still exists).
I am not sure where one can buy this 1997 recording, but from (iirc) UnsungComposers, they got the recording from Karl Urlberger himself, but trying to contact the orchestra or conductor or wtvr to get these recordings might be possible.
As for sheet music, I am not sure.
Oddly, Bob Cabedal uploaded this work too, and the same recording as this video, but it's almost a whole minute shorter...
This is a great find and in my opinion one of the better piano concertos of this period. It's tragic that most of his music was destroyed towards the end of WW2 so I wonder what other major works he wrote. Perhaps a few of them were performed and the parts lie hidden in a library somewhere. Time for some detective work!
Bravo! Ein schönes Klavierkonzert im Stil unserer besten Romantiker!
Thanks so much. It is great to hear for this first time these "works of an era" that were written in that "as if atonality never existed" style. Nice to hear Joseph Marx another great "rediscovery" mentioned here as well. Really enjoyed this one.
Superb stuff! Thank you for uploading this exciting work.
Subtlety in droves, which matches the extroverted dramatic flourishes of imaginative musings. I would say that it gives the impression of improvisation, which enhances the listening experience - different emotions, regions, ideas, colours, merge and demerge; leading to absolutely delightful anticipation.
It's extraordinary! It seems very original.
This is a wonderful composition. I'm an author and I'm mentioned in Wikipedia because of Hanns Wolf:
My god, what a find!!!
Yep thats what I said
Excellent piece of music! Thank you!
Great! Concerto Work and performance! thanks!
This is a really fantastic piece of music. Very much enjoyed. Thks.
Isn't it amazing how over the course of years and years these concerts are still listened to on the regular? I am listening myself and scrolling through comments from years and years ago and suddenly your comment comes up just an hour ago. It is interesting to think that there are people in the world listening to this unknown piece at the same time you are.
Hahah ,and years after you here I am
Прелепа музика, most beatiful music ♫
absolutely breath taking - Peter Hofman Kolk
Beautiful concerto, unknown composer !
Very good work!
This Is a Great composer
31:58 I LOVE THIS SECTION, IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL
Thank you very much for this excellent work, which includes some touches and expressivity which anticipate the Golden Age of Hollywood, especially in the first movement !
Corentin Boissier (collectionCB, collectionCB2 and collectionCB3)
Thanks a lot, very interesting!
For me it does not anticipate anything Hollywood but shows a german composer writing in an Idiom which is almost forgotten today. I hear some Joseph Marx- a good deal of it of course. After WW2 this was completely out of vogue. And it is important to be able to hear such works again.
cancelled by those who may not be named..............
Enchanting music, especially the second movement.
That painting is by Arnold Böcklin.
Seaside Villa, 1878.
I find it unfair that everyone should remember Prokofiev, and no-one remembers Hanns Wolf who employed the same "cinematographic" method way ahead of Prokofiev and much more (as I find it) artistically .
Extraordinary!
How the fuck can someone poor of coin upload this shit to Spotify? I have a "piano concertos from the romantic period and thereabouts" playlist and it'd benefit immensely from this piece.
Great!
Why putting everything in a box? Romantic, post-romantic? Who cares ! It is a great piece of music, I enjoyed very much. Thank you for uploading, Mr. Kuhlau.......
Where is this guy now? I need him again to make moar musiccc :(
the three movements are titled "Massig belebt", "Exotische Tanzszene" and "Finale. Burleske"
This music is so unsung, it does not even have a Wikipedia page
It does now: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanns_Wolf
Obrigado!!!
The mic was too close to the piano but I really like this piece. It's the only time I've ever heard it. DA
10:50 onwards is just incredible
I hope Brilliant Classics or Naxos records and releases this! A studio version would be brilliant instead of a live version where people cough incessantly as though the unholy Tuberculosis plague is still around!
nice
Great.
Wonderful Concert and very good played :-) Where can I get scores of it?
Get my attention and keep it. And that is what happened.
A real a!nd happy discovery
Hello! Where can I get this concerto sheet music?
i see that i marked this "like," so i recently found it a rare romantic work that i could tolerate. But now rollin it again, it's gettin on me nerves, so i don't know, folks- we'll see.
like this
Gorgeous; too few views and "likes".

Sad to hear the sound has been overly 'squashed' by Compression.
For 1929, that's rather old-fashioned... sounds like 1880
forlandom I don’t know any piece from 1880 that sounds remotely like this
@@MusicProposition Agreed. Certainly the latter half of the 2nd movement shows he had heard modern composers like Prokofiev, and you would not hear this kind of music in1880.
This postromantic concerto misses real romantic themes:it's not my baby!
Dieses postromantisches Konzert hat keine schöne romantische Themen und ist nicht mein Ding.
sorry - this doesn't even come close to Prokofiev - its not bad but well short of the Prokofiev genius
Why bring others? Enjoy it as what it is...leave if u don't like...
