In this video I show how to replace the oil in the final drive on a 1985 Honda Shadow 1100C. The process is similar on other bikes, so this video should be helpful if your motorcycle is something other than a Honda Shadow. Honda recommends using SAE 80 Hypoid Gear oil that is API GL-5 rated.

What kind of camera you use to record this video, Very nice zoom! thank you for vid.
Hi could you help me to get the cap cause´in the shop they broke the part where the o ring goes thank you
please do a clutch replacement video on the same bike
Whats the silver cap on top the whole drive
Torque for both drain plug and cap is 12Nm
There seems to be confusion about the proper fill volume. My '03 VT1100C2 has no center stand. The service manual clearly says, "Place the motorcycle on its side stand on a level surface." (page 3-14). I recently drained my hypoid gear, and collected about seven and a half ounces of old fluid. We shall see what it takes to fill it back up.
Thanks. Love my bike but let me ask you....does the tone of the engine m ake you tired or agitated at certain rpms or long rides. I guess I must have a tiny hex hole..I have to fine..i was wondering how I would suck oil up through my only apparent hole on my nighthawk.
Shawn Defeudis I honestly have never ridden this bike on a long ride. Not sure I understand your last question, but they make small hand pumps with small hose accessories that can be used to remove oil from cavities like a differential. You can find them at most auto parts stores.
is there a secondary gear oil change for the shifter? is so could you explain how to add the gear oil to it. Thank you
That's your transmission and it shares oil with the engine.
mine is a Honda shadow VT 500
What’s the cap on top of the final drive?
Breather
torque specs are 9 and 14. ft/lb ....14 is the filler big bolt
It took 20 minutes to drain the oil??
It’s a heavy weight gear oil, Od expect it to come out much slower than motor oil. I’d ride the bike to warm it up first to get it all to drain out better.
torque specs = 12 Nm
