    Thank you for your fertilizer regimen, I'm going to try it! Spring has definitely sprung in Florida and I'm gearing up for some repotting fun.
    I've gotten pots and hangers from a place called Hicks orchid supply, I think they are based in Florida. Their prices are good and I like to order from small businesses when I can.
    I've been binge listening / watching your videos today and am learning a lot of good tips for the care of my babies. I have about 40 , most of them kept in the covered entryway to our home with a large 4x6' skylight.
    My Phals are going off, the Dendrobiums are always happy but my Cattleyas aren't blooming though I think some are mature enough now, healthy looking and putting out new growth.
    But anyway, you have a stunning collection, a beautiful home and I love your voice! Blessings to you as well. :)

    Loved the video I decided to start a different fertilizer regimen with a new product and I want to try it on specific orchids it is a pretty balanced fertilizer from the brand grow more 20-10-20 I was wondering if I should just use this fertilizer or if I should add anything else?

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  3 роки тому

      Hi Andrew! I don't think you're going to get the results you want with a 20-10-20 fertilizer for your orchids. The phosphorus is low, which means your orchid isn't going to bloom much. Stick with a really good orchid fertilizer...they're formulated especially for orchids and their specific needs. Happy growing and thanks for watching!

Then when I saw your video I almost had a heart attack, so I quickly tried to scoop out the lime from the surface but I know I didn’t reach all of it. Hi Lenore! If it's in a moss mix, I believe it will be fine. I use either moss or bark because mine do better that way. In just moss, the garden lime isn't a good idea. Happy growing, my friend! :)

    Hi Amy
    I am a new in orchid growing world. I rescued few orchid from meijer just two weeks ago, as they were throwing them away. I have watched many of your videos and I feel overwhelmed. Before I found your Chanel I purchased my fertilizer from repotme and it gives you a general instruction on how to use it. I loved your videos about mixing firtilizer for each season and I would like to do it as well. I grow my orchids in bark and use filtered water, which filters only fluoride. Since my water has plenty of calcium , do I still need to add cal Mac ? Thanks in advance and have a blessed day.

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  9 місяців тому

      Hi Christopher and welcome to my channel! It can be quite overwhelming to be a new orchid grower. Let me try to simplify some things for you, it will make things much easier. I now use MSU fertilizer...the same that you probably bought. It's much easier to navigate than what you've seen me use in past videos. I've used MSU for over a year and it's my favorite fertilizer.
      I don't know what climate you live in, but use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon in the fall and winter (unless you live in a very hot climate) and use 3/4 teaspoons in the spring and summer. (If you bought the one granular one that you mix in water. They also have a liquid solution and a time released...just go by the recommended doseage on those.) If the orchids you bought are in good shape, this will work wonders. If they aren't, you might want to pull back a little on the fertilizer. With MSU, you don't need to use any CalMag. It already has calcium and magnesium in it. I wish you lots of growing success and thanks for watching! Amy

    • @Christopher-mx4je
      @Christopher-mx4je 9 місяців тому +1

      @@OrchidWhisperer thanks so much for taking time to reply. The MSU I bought is granulated and suggested use is 3/4 of tsp in fall and winter and 1 tsp for spring and summer. I leave in Indianapolis , Indiana and I believe our climate is almost the same. Although our weather is very bipolar 😄

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  9 місяців тому

      @@Christopher-mx4je I don't use a full teaspoon in the summer unless it gets really hot. The higher the temps, the higher nutrient absorption. Low temps, less absorption. Happy growing, and keep in mind it takes a while. Growing orchids is a steep learning curve!

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  5 місяців тому

      Hi! I haven't used garden lime in quite a while. Moss and garden lime do not mix, and most of my orchids are in moss or a mix of moss and bark. With my orchids that are in bark only, I use CalMag on the weeks that I don't use MSU fertilizer...MSU contains calcium and mag so no need for extra calcium with that. (I use Orchiata bark that contains dolomite...so no need for garden lime.)
      If you're using a fertilizer with calcium and mag like MSU, there's no need to use the CaliMagic except for the week you flush out your pots.
      Have a great day! :)

      Thanks for your awesome feedback! :) The reason I use them in that order is because the CalMag bottle instructions specifically say to use it first. It actually binds to the water molecules. The total TDS of this mixture is around 550-600ppm. Just a thought about your TDS meter...I was getting very high readings on my TDS meter last fall. I changed the battery and cleaned the meter and now I'm getting the correct (lower...much lower) readings. Hope that helps. Happy growing!
