    05/11 -- You folks have been bugging me for quite a while now when it comes to my "fish tank." Therefore, I got good news -- the fish tank is currently running and going through the process of nitrogen cycle! Meanwhile, I decided to micro-fish two local Creeks -- the Byberry and Poquessing -- for possible candidates for the tank! I am leaving a poll in the video: which Species portrayed in this video do you think is most suitable for my future fish tank?! Don't forget to vote!
    Coming up in 2 days: Exploring and Fishing the Bargaintown Pond in Atlantic County, NJ. Short video of my friend Mike C. and I adventuring into a new pond for some Pickerel and Bass. :)

      Beautiful fish, you certainly inspire me to explore the world of micro fishing. I wonder in your to do list of future adventures, you plan to try to track down micro fish such as the some of smaller catfish species, or the stickle back fish. Have you encountered some of the smaller Esox species such as the redfin pickeral or grass pickeral?

    Shiner tank or rock bass tank

  • @AngryKittens
    @AngryKittens 8 років тому +2

    Used to do this a lot as a kid. I didn't grow up in the US, but we had a similar fish to shiners (also cyprinids) which we funnily enough, also call "shiner" in our native language. Too small for hooks, so I caught them by running nets near grassy banks. They were schoolers and it was lovely watching them in tanks. They flash their silver bellies every now and then which explains why they're called that way. I used to do only habitat tanks. No goldfish for me. Just local fish.

      +Angreh Kittunz That is awesome, Angreh! Where I came from -- *born and raised in Brazil* -- we also had our share of micro fishes. In Portuguese, we call them *Lambari* (_Astyanax spp_). I used to catch them on very small hooks and pieces of linguine back in the days. Heh. Truly astonishing. Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    I used to keep local minis actually just young Blue-Gill and large mouth Bass. I would try to get the smallest i could get, less than 2 inches. The Bass are more agressive and would quickly take over the tank. I saved a small Blue-Gill that had been eaten by the small Bass. He had exposed ribs and no flesh on one whole side of its body. I put him in a small outdoor fountain , about 1 inch of water. The fountain had ice on it that winter and I never even check,I assumed the fish was dead. Spring time he was alive and beautiful. I brought him in to the tank and he was eaten in less than an hour. I felt terrible. What a survivor.

    If you're serious about live release like that, use a pair of pliers and fold the barb flat so it dosn't gore the fish up so bad. As long as you maintain the tension, he won't get off till you want to let him go.

    I kept lmb's and fed them goldfish. You can buy feedfish at most aquarium stores. I was able to hand feed right into their mouth. They would come up to the top of the tank when they saw me come into the room. It was a lot of fun. Costs a bunch to keep them, though.

    Gun looked to be of the 1911 and could have been from a verity of companies. Probably not worth anything now in condition it's in, but the design of it is something that can't be confused for another handgun. I say that's quite a rare find. Most people who take up metal detecting for a hoody don't even come close to finding things like that. If I were you I would clean it off and display it in a glass case to make for a good conversation starter. Also my votes always go to redbreasts

    I have one request. When taking the fish out of the river, take it out gently. Please don't yank it out of the water and leave it dangling on the hook in mid air. Have some compassion for the fish. Support its weight with your hand so it does not feel undue pain. Thank you for your consideration.

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  8 років тому

      It is like that for everyone around the country. Heh. People who come to PA to catch native Brook Trout (_Salvelinus fontinalis_) are always awed at their colors, even if they are only 4-6 inches in general. When I go down to Florida -- where you are at -- I am always awed at all the different Species that you have down there. Summarizing...we get used to a certain place and catching certain fish, and some of us really start to take things for granted. In the end, though, they fail to realize the small miracles that we have here and there -- on a daily basis. Tight lines and thanks for watching, Sonny!

    Red breadt or green sunfish are super aggressive. Or u should maybe get a small bass. But however do not place bother bass and sunfish in same aquarium because the sunfish will actually kill the bass. I have done that before. I have also had 2 bass in an aquarium and one of them which was not even an inch bigger ate the other one. I have big sunfish and bull head in my 100 gallon aquarium at the moment. Also have a redtail catfish around 5 pounds. I would recommend baby bass the most since they are so cool. When small they will eat pellets and you can even drop in a minnow or night crawler as a treat.

    Hey Leo, what are you doing here? Why are you micro fishing? You said we could ask you that.
    BTW, I do micro fishing in France. I keep the ones I catch to release in the river that runs under my house. People usually catch them for bait, but I use them to create forage in my river.
    That sunfish is way too big to be considered micro. The worm you were using would last me all day.
    Keep up the videos. Your enthusiasm and excitement for fish is contagious.

    A redbreast sunfish would be the easiest to keep alive in the tank and they are pretty, but once they get to a good size they will start to feed on baitfish, meaning the other fish in your tank lol The shiner species you caught would be very good to add, but they are difficult to transport and die easily. A fallfish is not advised because they can get very very large (I've caught 4 pounders), so I would go with either the golden shiner or common shiner. they spottail, spotfin, mummichog, and killifsh are simply too weak to survive very long.
