    Excellent video Dave. You can buy gas in the camping shop in Ullapool. Another wee tip. If you go to Bing Maps and type in Fort William, then click on the bit that says Road on the right hand toolbar? Change that to Ordnance Survey and then zoom in to the part of the map that you need for the start of the walk and just print it off.
    I will look forward to watching your video's of the Cape Wrath Trail. Atb Glenn😁

    I’m really looking forward to your videos of this one Dave. Of all of the long distance trail videos I watch this is by far the most interesting and testing, both physically and mentally. I would love to do CWT myself but the midge are just a living nightmare I couldn’t get over, no matter nets, smidge etc. I wish you all the very best my friend. 🥾👍🏼

      Hi Mike and thank you for kind words, watching and continued support. The midges and ticks are the things I'm dreading the most. Some of the UA-cam guys I mentioned show how bad the midges get. So I completely understand your stand point in regards such. Its going to be tough, wet and very challenging, but I've got to give it a go simply to see if I can. Hopefully the footage will be good enough and in any case a reminder to me of what occurred. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment. Atb Dave aka wackyswanderings

    Dave, a lot of thought, preparation and sorting for a serious undertaking👍 Great attention to detail with all your gear. The idea of the SOS system and the peace of mind makes sense when being out there for some time on your own. The price of those meals made my eyes water, though it makes sense nutrition and weight wise and that it is all then sorted. Impressed by the packed size off the sleeping bag💤 Its still hard to get that gas! Loved the chest bag idea and all the map sorting👍 A great adventure awaits and fortune favours the brave👍👍

Im not convinced with your stove are you sure that's the best setup, you can get gas all over you have a goutdoors in harlow, also the socks I think you'll not keep changing I'm only mentioning this stuff because I want you to succeed and just voicing concern buddy. Please download the GPS maps as well as you have access to them now you bought the maps, I really wish you all the best and cant wait to see the videos of this. Im planning to do this either later this year or maybe april next year. I hope you have an amazing time.

      Hi Martin thank you for watching, kind words and supportive advice. I've yet to use the new pot, but feel it will suit my purposes better as it's volume is much more than my usual mess tin which will be beneficial in regards boiling larger amounts of water, to include for washing. The pot and burner unit is very stable in standing provided I can control my arm waving 😀. I've tweeked the bag a little more and now got the weight to 23lb👍😊. As for gas availability there now seems no problem but I'm not counting my chickens as to when it comes to resupply so will address any issues then. Thanks for recognition re chest bag, they say the simple thing's often work best. I just wished I'd thought of it before shelling out on other bags, oh well never mind. I'm hoping the filming goes well and look forward to posting what happens. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and Atb for your hike. You be good, you be safe and you keep smiling. Hi Dave, great video and you seem to have all areas covered. As for me, what with covid, family bereavements and then being diagnosed with a heart problem (I'm just waiting to have the operation), my hiking over the last few years, has totally come to an abrupt halt. That said, I'm planning a number of hikes post-operation and the Cape Wrath Trail is one of them. I've watch many UA-cam videos on it, got the same book and Harvey map as you and am now planning my kit and route. I too am the wrong side of 60 but could never carry the same weight as you. I'm aiming at 10 - 12 kg. I may get a food parcel posted from home and pick up around half way on the route, that way I'd save some weight. I have to say that 16 kg is a lot of weight to carry, especially when taking in the terrain and weather conditions, but at 6.3ft you should be able to handle that and I'm sure that you will have done or will do a few training hikes with that weight before setting off. As I do not like walking in wet feet, one thing I am thinking of doing is to get a pair of jelly shoes to cross rivers & bogs. I can whip my boots and socks off, put the Jellies on and wade across. Then after dry my feet, put back on my socks and boots and away you go. When are you planning to do the hike? As well as midges and ticks, also watch out for horse-flies, I saw one video and the guys said they were attracted to the colour blue! Dave I wish you all the best luck on the hike and look forward to seeing your video once you complete it.

    • @wackyswanderings3627
      @wackyswanderings3627  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mark. Firstly I offer my sincere condolences for your bereavement and best wishes for your up and coming operation and speedy recovery. Being the wrong side of 60 does have advantages, free medical prescriptions being one and an inate habit of being excused the occasional cock up when made. One of the other guys commented on the 16kg statement also, explaining that this would equate to around 33lb. I nearly died and rushed off to the garage to check my scales. Your gonna love this. Placing my loaded pack onto the hook, squinting through my bottle top glasses, 11kg not 16kg was seen. I'd miss red the 1 to be a 6. You can only imagine my relief. Panic over on that one, but of course cock up number two is that I can't re edit the video 🥴hay ho. So yah 23lb thus far. Anyhoo, thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and Atb for the future. Hopefully all being well you'll be up and out soon. Dave
