@@johnnewham2235 hi John thanks for taking the time to watch and comment much appreciated. Indeed even in every day events to get a fire going quickly can be a struggle. I've relied on the cotton wool protrolium jelly (vaseline) mix so many times I've lost count. I've utilised the concept twice in the last two days simply working in my woods. Bullet proof I think the term is. Thanks again and pleased you enjoyed the video and indeed commenting. Means a lot. Cheers 🍻 Dave 👍
I live in the Pacific Northwest I find if you are going to be prepared just bring a lighter With a lighter you can get a fire going anytime anywhere People say oh what if you break your Lighter I say to those people Try and break a lighter It's not easy Always just bring a lighter
I guess it's horses for courses and what works best for you, within your environment and situation. For me, I wouldn't rely on just a lighter as my ignition tool. I carry a couple, but I don't rely on them. I rely on my swiss army knife, ferro rod and petroleum soaked cotton wool as in all my experiences they've never let me down and made fire starting simple. Thanks for watching, comments and interaction much appreciated. ATB to you and yours Dave 👍
@@wackyswanderings3627 Did you know that the Pharaoh rod is a modern tool the lighter was invented before the pharaoh rod I usually take more than one lighter
In a real survival situation a lighter is going to be a lot better See you have to bring 2 things your pharaoh rod and your Ignition source all I have to bring is my lighter A Ferrod is fun to play around with Here in the Pacific Northwest and it's pouring down the rain you would never get a fire going with your pharaoh
@@wackyswanderings3627 I don't mean to be pedantic but I do take survival training seriously And for survival a lighter is the best thing you can bring Into the Woods Besides your knife
That's interesting, no I didn't know the ferrocerium rod was invented after the lighter. Apparently the ferrocerium rod was invented in 1903, how cool is that👍
A brilliant idea Dave thanks for sharing, this idea will be a God send to someone in this kind of situation
