My late husband and I were exploring eastern Oregon, which is beautiful. We parked the car on a deserted road, walked over to a makeshift look-out, next to a canyon. It was so still and so gorgeous, we were both quiet, each lost in our own Nature thoughts, I guess. Of a sudden a fighter jet appeared out of nowhere, screaming down the canyon, going so fast that blink and you'd miss it What a rush! My husband said, "Thank God you were here to verify the story when I tell it." "Ditto," I said. Well Rich isn't here anymore to verify that I'm telling the truth, bu I still relate the story; oh yeah.
I'ts "Seldom Seen Slim", us prospectors still talk about him, and I'm from Santa Barbara and go to the grave to pay respects. Legends spirits never die. Mike Hughes and Seldom are probably having a drink watching over us adventurous explorers. And Huell Howser. Love your vids and spirit!
Another well done video, awesome job. 👍
Wonderhussy videos always get a thumbs up before I even watch them, because I know they're gonna be awesome! And this one is no exception!
I love that Sarah Jane is so interested in everything, and makes everything interesting for us!
Well done!. I have recently been reading about the Death Valley prospectors, men like Seldom Seen Slim, Shorty Harris, Jim Sherlock and "Indian George" Hensen. Amazing characters and tough as nails.
I enjoy Desert Magazine for great stories. They ran from 1937- mid 1980's.
Love exploring old Pioneer cemeteries. Thanks for another great video.
Interesting video Wonderhussy. Keep them coming. Us old folks really enjoy them.
And young folks too
selby orear do you enjoy her unshaven armpits?? Yeck, that's one of the only problems I have with Sara, and the fact that she is a Liberal..hence, hairy armpits..
Apocyl Doomer I’m a liberal & my armpits are shaved. Also, she does shave those things sometimes 😊

I like exploring old Cemeteries. It makes you wonder what their lives were like. Thanks Wonderhussy another good job!
I can tell you genuinely care about people, sweet
She Soo sweet int she good comment I agree!🤣😍
I grew up hearing my dad talk about finding 'Seldom Seen Slim", I know my dad thouroughly enjoyed exploring Death Valley and the Panamint Mountains. I'm a .little envious 😊 one these days I'll get there. Thanks for the enjoyable content.
Girl those earrings!!!! 😍😍 I'm totally loving all of this hussy we're getting today!!
I keep warning her about those earrings. She's gonna start some kind of trend...you watch.
@@tomfrye9037 I'd definitely get some! I love me some crystals!
@@marybelleadamson6596 I'm not so much into earrings, but crystals I could get something going with. If I ever get time, I'll try to set up a random LED display so the different colors can shine through some kind of "bed" of crystals. I kinda fell into a bag of different colored LEDs a while bad and have been looking for an excuse to wire something up.

@@newyorkyankees81 Hey, Hubert! Cheer UP!(8-)(8-P
Hello wonderhussy. You had a busy week. You put out 3 videos for us your viewers. Good job I love exploring old abandoned ghost towns in Graves myself. See you in the next video.
Since I read my first copy of Arizona Highway magazine in 1970, I've loved the western deserts. I would have loved to have visited the places you get around to here so well. This is the best one yet, but I've only watched a handful so far. This could become a staple on my UA-cam diet!
Great job on Slim! When you recover from Namibia think about a visit to the “real” Ballarat in Au. It is really well preserved - downtown same as in 1870. You can ride horses around too - and check out the cemetery! Love your work.
interesting tour of the graveyard of Ballarat..somewhere ive actually heard of and read about before lol generally everything you've shared tends to be new to me..good video as always
Holy cow! Who would have thought such compelling stories could come from such desolation? Thank you so much for constantly finding such beauty in the desert. Hi to Mr. Rock Novack.
At the Trona Mineral Show I met someone who knew "Seldom Seen Slim." He said you always had to stand upwind when talking to him. Those are F18's from China Lake you heard.
I love visiting old cemetery as much as ghost towns
That’s right! You can’t take it with you. We all come into the world with nothing and leave with nothing.
No worries Mate, this makes me SOOOOOO Angry 😤
Nice.
You make an empty place so interesting as usual. I am just now getting to this viewing 1 1/2 years later. History makes us appreciate how much better our average lives are. Even the people were rustic in those days. Thanks.
If you lay a piece of paper over the headstone & rub it with a piece of charcoal or a crayon laid on it's side, you can get a nice rubbing of the patterns and letters & it makes it easier to read. This method works on all kinds of headstones & they make interesting wall hangings! Edit- Colored chalk works too!
Great video
I have a old magazine called desert , printed in the late 1960s with a article on seldom seen Slim . read it in the 1970s. and got me hooked on the panamet .
Very cool adventure! If you could time machine to back to the Seldom seen slim days.. he would have wanted to share that drink with you for sure!
The Angel looked like a gargling frog to me. Of course I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. They must have loved that dog! Thank you Sarah!
Awesome; on a roll; so enjoy learning so much history about the area; !!
I saw “Seldom Seen Slim” twice when I was a child living in Trona. He came to town and was at the post office once and the D&B grocery store once near the Pioneer Point end of town. It was between 1963 and 1966. He was old, tall and dusty!
Thanks for sharing that
I’m lovin being back in Death Valley...you’re my new tour guide! 🧙♂️🏔🏜🦅
Wonderhussy, you are wonderful!
3 vlogs!! In one day?! Awesome! It's a Wonder Hussy jubilee!! Thank you Lady!! Good stuff!
I grew up in Ridgecrest / China Lake and as a young boy (Im almost 62 now) and my Dad n me used see him hitchhiking usually toward Trona from Ridgecrest and even out one time by Inyokern heading like to Lone Pine or some where north
Great video WH
Thank you for paying your respects to those buried there.🌷
I just watched an awesome short documentary of the mayor of Ballarat. I swear UA-cam and the Gov't is spying on me because your video was next in line. Nice episode Sarah.
Ya got that right, Darlin'. Rich or poor makes no difference in the end. We all end in on Boot Hill. And thanks for the 3 fer treat, Babe. I really appreciate the bonus.
Slims buried on my birthday. When he died there is roughly 300 people in attendance. The funeral was radio advised cross country has the last single blanket jackass prospector to have lived. The priest in Trona compared slim to John the Baptist as they were salts of the earth. And you stand at Slim's grave and look over the modern building in Ballarat there's a peek sticking out behind the building it was named after Slim. Google "slims peak". Keep up the good work Sarah
Really enjoyed your Walk around this little one you told us about the people and showed awesome respect!! love your adventures wonderhussy!😁😎😎🤗🤗
My Wednesday treat: A Wonderhussy mini marathon.
You're really sharp!! Thank you WH! Love your research!
You have a joyful, calming voice. Love listening to you.
I actually met Seldom in 1967. He was great to talk to, He had a serious case of skin cancer,.
😁👍
Guy named Jones owned the store in 60's thru 70's in Ballarat. He was a character and a half.
Hi Sarah - You are one Great Gal & i truly enjoy all your videos - Take care ! - John - Canada
Great visit with the history, I was born in China Lake when it was a Naval base.
China Lake Naval Base is still active
I met Seldom Seen Slim in Ballarat, in the 1960s, at a big Ballarat celebration. I wasn't even a teenager, but I remember it so clearly. Yes, he was tall and skinny. He bragged that he took a bath only one time per year. Said, "Hell...I don't need a bath but once every year." He'd strip off and bathe in the horse or mule water trough.
👍😁
Good vid.
2 flats at Ballarat.127 degrees.morning, afternoon, night, morning afternoon,evening... then a older couple lost n low on gas. And no water they stops for me "my savior's" n we helped each other out.i needed out of there n they didn't have enough gas or water and where lost to get to trona. "First town" if u go that way.i had lots of water.have made 27 trips through up n down the valley .never be neglegent out there.crap happens fast.
In 1965 I lived in Homewood canyon and sometimes we would see old seldom seen slim hich hiking back to Ballarat out of trona and we would pick him up and take him on out to ballarat. My father went to school at the old Ruth mine in Homewood canyon.
😁👍
Used to hang out in Ballarat back in the 80's
an excellent History Video , Wonder ...
I'm still anticipating the Trona story and the Meeting Rock Video...
we love your work ❤❤🎉😊

Thanks for the amazing video I do appreciate it.👍😊
Now think about it born in NY died in LA berried there in Ballarat.. he may have been a miner there, spent the best years of his life there and wanted to be buried there... that is plausible. Did you see the stalactite view what is all that blotted out stuff on Wingate rd toward post office spring??
Thanks , well done as always
I had the distinct pleasure or what ever you call it of meeting "Seldom Seen Slim" on a trip to Death Valley with a buddy/Expert on Death Valley!
At that time he was quite alive!!!
Got T-shirts? I would definitely wear them, with sayings like "I travel with the HUSSEY " "WONDER HUSSEY TRAVELS" "Wonder Hussey" Hot Springs"... I love your travels.
Definitely!!!
Nice vid wh
Three wonderful Wonderhussy videos on one day - thanks! :-)
I love cemeteries. I used to volunteer on Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness to take pics for people of headstones in a cemetery near me. But the site isn't curated well enough and I stopped getting requests, There's a great channel called Hollywood Graveyard, that's fantastic with Arthur Dark for cemetery buffs. Great vid WH.
3 Vids in 1 day,Very cool,,,That was cool.Great video.Safe Travels..
Great video...as always. Thanks.
Speaking of moonshine, if you go to "the store" you can ask Rock for some "private reserve"
She mentioned that somewhere...I just can't remember where. Keep things kinda hush hush. Don't want Rock to run out of his favorite elixir...or get in trouble for having it.
Very nice
Nice tour....wish we could see all of you. Flip flops? Shorts, Croks?
I need a short vacation from seein' so much of her. I fall in love easy, ya see(8-).
It was cool to meet Rock. He offered me a soda as we were talking during my visit in December. Lots of history there.
HAHA. We all end up in the same place. Love your vids.
Great Video I love these great stories out in the boonies
We've lived on ranches where our closest neighbor was 50 miles away and more, depending where we lived. It was heaven.
Debbie Mclaughlin this makes me SOOOOOO Angry 😤
Thanks again!
Beautiful area! The cemetery is very interesting with Seldom Seen Slim, there’s history everywhere in our desert, just have to do a little “digging “! 🐍🐍🦎🦎❤️❤️
Well done , from Seldom Seen Simon
An Englishman In France
Love you. You are so awesome
I was there at the store on the 5th of April. I saw a young lady filming and wondered if it was you. We were meeting up to do the Pleasant Canyon/South Park loop. By the way that is not the Manson truck. Rock likes to tell people that though. I know where the real truck is. Manson stole it from Ridgecrest and it too is a Dodge Power Wagon. Everyone used those trucks for mining out there. The Claires didn't do any moon shining. That was the Thompsons who were the original owners of the mining claims up above Claire Camp. I know the Claires personally.
Sarah! I'm getting sensory overload! And damn it's great!
You can post all day long!
Thanks! And Happy travels.
Beeps.
We love you and your adventures, tell Larry hey.
If Wonderhussy became privy to Moonshining rumors in 1917, is she time traveling on us? That ore cart was in really good shape. 0:57. A newer all metal cart! Was Charles’ ride a Dodge Power Wagon truck? 12:30
Yeah...Old milsurp special...
Sarah, what is the significance of the quarter on the cross?
Yep, In 66 years, I've never seen a Hearse pulling a U-haul. We leave this world the way we came in, chubby, toothless, hairless, peeing in our pants, yadda-yadda-yadda
LOVE IT---THANKS
The fire brick person may have been in refectory work. My late husband was in refractory work & I think fire bricks around his grave would be quite suiting.
Frenchies was a club on francois kaserne. It was rumored to have a ghost of a soldier. I always wonder what he thinks now that the building is a kindergarten
Rock Novak sells "The coldest drinks around." Very nice man. He let us camp up at his old homestead in Suprise Valley. We heard a very strange animal that woke me up put of a deep sleep. He told us that it was considered haunted. Back in the late1800's a flash flood came through at 2:00am and killed about 200 people. They never found anyone.
Do they have Mountain Dew at the store?
John Baylaya
.....Nope...Just mortgage due.....!!
Check out the Black Hills sometime in the summer. Deadwood has the famous Boot Hill with Wild Bill, Calamity Jane etc. but the Ghost town of Galena and cemetery is interesting, according to South Dakota Magazine:
“Galena, high in the Black Hills eight miles east of Deadwood, is a state treasure.
Nothing in the American West has been romanticized quite like ghost towns. But in the 21st century many of those places have deteriorated to the point that it’s hard to get a feel for the community that once thrived there. So an authentic ghost town that retains a sense of itself, as Galena does, stands out as a gem. In fact, there may be no ghost town experience in the West that tops Galena’s the second Saturday of each June. That’s when Galena is put on display with food, bluegrass music, and a long self-guided hike to historic structures-some still standing, some memorialized with markers and historic photos.”
Lots of hikes too.
Enjoy your adventures! that aircraft that flew by is the ghost of D.B. Cooper airplane maybe their's treasure nearby! keep up the fantastic work!
Just in that area you have China Lake NAS, Leech Lake Air Force Bombing Range, Ft. Irwin (Army), Edwards Air Force Base and even a Naval Bombing Range South of I-15. I used to run the Live Fire Range at the back (East Side) of Ft. Irwin in the 1980's.
Great and interesting video’s.....Hussy, you are interesting, in many ways, but not creepy. I always thought Death Valley was a super hot valley that people past through, as soon as they could. Wrong. Thx Gurl
Seldom had a strange problem. He was allergic to water and could not take a bath. I knew him when I worked at the chemical plant in Trona 1966.
Hello, The cemetery you visited was very interesting. If one gets hungry, I don't think they would have much luck finding a restaurant, lol Thank you for sharing...a cool video! :)
WH, going the distance! Thank you!
Met him in 1954. My father went into his hogan for a visit and told me when he came back to our truck that when he ran low on Prince Albert's in the can, mixing it with dried burro dung perked it up... My father said he gave it a try and said it wasn't that bad...
🤣👍
Your on a good one Huss. Wish I could travel with you!. Safe travels sweety!
Wire rope heheh.... i think you mean cable wire. what a neat grave... your right we do end up in the same place.
7 saloons and 4 brothels.. nice.
Great stuff WH !
Thumbs up on the 'hat trick'!!!
I think there was a character in the Monkey Wrench Gang called "Seldom Seen Smith". He was a "Jack Mormon" who lived in Green River, UT
I remember Seldom Seen Slim would come into Trona once or twice a year. He always gave the kids he met a quarter so we could buy an ice cream or candy bar. Memory fades, but I believe he drove into town in an old Woody station wagon.
👍😁
Hallelujah Sister!
Seldom Seen Slim, Karl Von Muller in one of books Treasure Hunters Bible has a great story about Slim, well worth the read.
