My family and I stayed in the cabin over 20 years ago...It had a tiny kitchen, a porch, and the creek ran behind it. The burros came up on the porch at night and hee-hawed. It was clean and well-kept.The outhouse was still usable. At one time, the canyon flooded out and couldn’t be driven up due to a huge, gaping ditch. Flash flooding redirects those canyons so you never know what will be there on each visit. The Panamints have lots of water! Love them! Thanks for the memories! 4Runners rule!
Previously called the "Gem", the Corona mine was a gold mine. Been out there 3 or 4 times. Going there again in two weeks. The small milling machine with the V8 power plant is a "Hammer Mill". Beats the crap out of the ore and turns it into dust. The black stuff near the end is grease and that was how they kept the wheels going in that big mill. The big round drum with the giant gear on it in that mill is a Ball Mill. That's where those little steel balls would be put to turn the ore into dust. You should have seen the place 12 years ago. It was still in very nice shape. There used to be an old 1930s Breadloaf Trailer next to the cabin. It was a 22 footer but it disappeared about 10 years ago.
Back in the 80's there was a two bedroom house and couple of other small out buildings!, Everything was wired for 12volt power!(I hooked up my truck to the wiring system and guess what?), We had lights!!!. The property is owned by the Kummerfield family!. Yes!. Believe it or not, it's private property!.
Okay crazy girl.. Don't fall or I'll have to find another Adventure Seeking Wonder Hussy.. (However.. There's None Available!) You are One Of A Kind and impossible to Replace! Keeper safe child! PT
Sarah Jane, I've never seen you trash anything. You are always so respectful of every site you visit. That's one of your best qualities, you take nothing but photos (and videos), and leave nothing but footprints. And you make everything so interesting!
Just found your channel and binge watched a lot of your vids. Flip flops to angels landing? Your crazy and amazing at the same time. Enjoy your life’s adventures and be safe.
Holy Crap! .. just discovered your channel and spent the last few days watching your videos.. so frigging cool! I'm an old biker from Colorado that grew up in Moab, Venice, Sparks, Vegas and a lot of the places you visit I have been to. The first video that caught my eye was Barker Ranch.. I used to belong to a club in Venice that hung out with Charlie, and your narrative was pretty spot on.. My wife and I travel all over the west and enjoy the many Ghost Towns and hot springs in the area and you have given us some great ideas.. would love to spend some time chatting with you.. too cool!
In the small shed, what you saw was not gross, It was grease :-)) Thanks Sarah for the very nice exploration. I hope you come back when you have a lot of time. Regards from Ody Slim

a great video once again...and don't listen to those idiots we all know your very respectful when you go out there and I for one so appreciate your videos.I could never get to those places, they intrigue me so much but are out of my reach. So thank you for bringing them to us with your talent for story telling.....fyi love the theme song lol
I Aced that International truck! So darn proud of myself. Philco appliances have a very long interesting History. They were eventually owned by Ford Motor Co. They competed with General Motors Frigidaire Appliances. GM didn't make TV's Philco (Ford) did. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone to do a bit of Industrial Archeology. It is amazing to see so much stuff relatively unmolested. My guess it is a Gold or Silver mine. The promise of great rewards for great expense. The Caterpillar Track is a clue as to how they got stuff up there. Most surprising was the running water. I think the paint can with "disgusting stuff" is ordinary grease for lubrication. The goosy mess with the stick in the cabin looks like a bituminous (tar) compound for patching roof leaks. I must say you are fearless on those sketchy heights! Weekend over nighter next please?

Sort of reminded me of Destruction Island off the Washington Coast, exploring the island and the waters surrounding that rock with a lighthouse. I think it is a wildlife preserve now, which is a good thing. Plus, scuba diving was a bit 'sketchy' .. one time our dive tender pointed out a half a harbor seal and said 'is that about the size of your thigh?' ..

Holy Cow. An old stationary mount AMC (Later International) 287 V8 or 327 V8 with an old Borg Warner Automatic with a tailshaft for a Matador or Ambassador enclosed driveshaft, though this has an exposed driveshaft. This tells me that they took an engine and transmission from a car and adapted it to the mining machinery. I rebuilt water pumps on those engines back n the early 60's. (Dated myself real well) Back then you could buy a rebuild kit for the water pump for about 75 cents and get a new impeller if needed for an additional buck. A new pump would set you back a full $16.00 A lot of money back then. Labor charge for for removing and rebuilding was about $20.00. The biggest problem we saw with those engines was people over tightening the wing nuts on the Valve covers, warping them and causing an oil leak. They were massive tough engines. I rebuilt two of those engines, and had problems because people kept trying to sell me the kit for the GM 327, which was much lighter and weaker. The connecting rod bearings on the AMC engine were the same size as the main bearing on the GM engine. I wonder at the weird modification to the thermostat housing and line they put to it.
I really liked this video Wonderhussy. It was neat to see the train tracks and were they ended. I like Narrow Gauge railroads to.Were there any small railroad spikes on them? I couldn't see any. The trucks were neat to see but, you didn't show the front of that big yellow tank truck. I was guessing that was a Ford. When you climbed up those shaky old mining structures I feared you falling off!! I would of never of taken that chance on a you tube video of mine. YES!! I have a fear of heights! LOL!! That little creak was so neat to see and my son Lewis would of loved to see that and all of the other stuff and relics there. He is living with me here now here in MASS. You are getting very good at checking out mining equipment and old vehicles. I think that yellow stake truck may have been Ford or Dodge. That first tall round piece of equipment is what is called a Cyclone and separates the Fines from coarse material. No idea what may have been mined there. Small Ball Mill (the balls you were fondling) for further crushing ore must have been there. Too bad you couldn't have put that TAR into a Plastic container so the existing one does not rust out from the outside in. Grease would have separated to wax and oil. Likely someone put a lot of Tannerite (a target shooting explosive) inside the oven and shot it. Dangerous stuff. Thanks so much. Nothing creepy?
It's tacky lube for the open gears. It came from the ground to begin with, it's not going anywhere. Glad you pointed out the garbage left behind by visitors though. Good stuff.
