There’s “next level” and there is Media Division. They set out to make the ULTIMATE every time. I simply can’t believe how brilliant and thorough these productions are. (They even knew to get Tito or it wouldn’t be a “complete” anamorphic discussion) The execution of retelling classic scenes is done flawlessly. The production of these scenes alone(including NAILING audio treatment, color grade/texture and angles) is not to be taken lightly. SUPERB! Not to mention the pacing of information, the order that information is delivered, the humor always sticks the landing, the perfect flow of energy/tone is ALWAYS struck. Combined with stellar production value from beginning to end, sweeping cinematic cinematography synthesized with procedural technical footage when appropriate... People comment about these being movies in their own right... having helped make a feature length, this is BETTER than most productions that are made. It’s very obvious they take that rare approach: They ask “What is the absolute best form this could take?” They interrogate and investigate every dimension of the subject always with the vision of what this medium COULD BE at it’s best rather than slightly improve on the existing VLOG format; put out another of the endless “talking head” cinema/gear channel polemics. These guys deserve an award that doesn’t exist yet for producing content of this quality. This incites more joy, excitement and innovation than Apple’s “Special Events”. That combination of effective technical presentation/teaching, fantastic humor, imagination, the technical know how to achieve these results, the freedom and willingness to be silly... the sheer excellence and style on display. It’s exceedingly rare to find all these elements in one group of individuals... and with ZERO pretense. With vision and problem solving skills like these, they SHOULD work on cleaning the water in Flint or finding the cure for old age but I guess we’ll have to settle for these world class cinematic didactics. I hadn't checked on new uploads for a while so I only just found out about this... And I was waiting for an episode on anamorphic since I first discovered the glorious Media Division. I was inevitably thrilled and must admit it reminded me of how excited I was about going to the movies as a child. Needless to say, it was indeed an intensely pleasing viewing experience - as well as a great learning one as well, as always - and I think this is (so far) your masterpiece but you don't need me to tell you. Technical narration throughout is fantastic and the overall editing and production quality of this film is on par with some of the most impressive work highlighted within it. I feel compelled to thank those at Media Division who shared this and commend those who worked on it. This film is a wonderful escape and a captivating and inspiring piece of work that both reignites the excitement I had for all of these films as a kid and inspires interest in these processes and the beauty of the visuals possible as an artist, story teller or documentary producer. Very Well Done!
Very happy to hear that you liked it so much BigShooter. It is our pleasure to produce this for an audience with people like you. Thanks man… glad to have you around
Top quality content here. Always found the anamorphic format fascinating and this has blown me away with the amount of detail and production time spent on explaining it all. This channel is a treasure.
Thanks Ultrawide... appreciated!!!! Glad you found it "edutaining" ;-) chapter 2 is very close
Finally, the anamorphic episode we've all been waiting for.
Enjoy!
I hope this channel only grows, as it's the one I look forward to most for new videos. The attention to detail you put into the videos is a master class in itself.
0 dislikes! That is how it should be and should stay. You guys make the best content there is on the whole YT.
Cheers… well , that was a question of time 😇
First of all, 49:30 cracked me up so badly, that I have to see the movie now ;)
As optical engineer, I totally enjoyed the video. This is excellent content.
go for it… it was not a hit but it surely is a hidden gem. I am very glad that someone with your expertise can enjoy our work without face palming ;-)
I had an unusual feeling watching the end credits: finally something I am proud of while reading my name among the others. Cant wait for chapter 2.
That nice man… very glad you feel at home in the treasured circle of Kubrick members. I think you do something honourable for all upcoming filmmakers. Now… and maybe even down the road. Thank you for that! The Division salutes you.
This channel should have 1million followers! It’s a gem! Thanks guys for such a great job!
The production quality of this is so freaking high i can't even!!!!!
I'm sure you could... everybody can. If that is your goal. Thanks man!
That is the single clearest explanation of oval bokeh that I’ve come across. Actually, the only clear explanation of oval bokeh that I’ve come across. Bravo.
Thank you… yeah… that was a puzzle... probably the hardest to put from theory into something visual
OK. Now I realize why you've been missing for the better part of this decade. I'll better grab some popcorn!
EDIT:
I'm only halfway in, but if the UA-cam algorithm doesn't push this video to at least all subscribers in their recommended feed, it's worth noting!
What you've done with the story about scope is astonishing!
Thanks a lot Mislav... yeah. If the algorithm doesn't jump o this it is broken.... on the other hand, it is a niche in a niche and very nerdy on top.
@@MediaDivision You would think The Great Algorithm would be able to measure the excellence of imagery and recommend accordingly. That would actually be an interesting series and research paper: "Identifying High-quality Cinematography using a Convolutional Neural Network" :)
@@I-0-0-I sounds like Star Trek episode to me :)
I'm speechless, this is so good. Best channel on UA-cam, excellent!
Thanks a lot Mike… glad you thinks so. Spread the word ;-)
The intro is tear drenching high quality 😰
Thanks!!!!
Wait…………… only the intro 😜
Media Division wins the internet again! Much respect.
Thanks a lot man.... unfortunately only a tiny portion of it
We’ve been waiting for so long!!!
I know Alex.. 6 month of hard work for me. Hope it was worth it for you guys
Unreal content quality! It's the best cinematography content in YT right now... Scott Supporter Tier should be mandatory!
Thanks a lot P G … appreciated. I would love everybody to be Scott… why aren't you?! 😉
Brilliant. Can't wait for Chapter 2.
Thanks Malcolm!
Watching this video and taking some notes literally saves you days of exhausting research. One of the best I have seen so far.
We are not worthy of such a masterfully crafted class, "next level" simply does not do it justice.
I feel like Alice Cooper in Wayne’s World :-) thanks man and I definitely think you are!!! Always looking for the next step.
This channel makes almost everything else look rather amateurish. And I'm not talking only about other UA-cam channels, I mean it does so even with many if not most of mainstream movies.
I just want to thank you deeply, this truly is a gift to all of us!
Thank you so much for that beautiful and motivating comment. Very happy to make you excited and entertained. As far as masterpieces go.... your name could be our mission statement: SoFa SoGood.... I wish some mainstream producer would share your opinion and lets us make our own feature.
I've been waiting for it for a long time))
Inddeed.. 6 month of hard work for me. Hope it was worth it for you guys
Every time I watch a new episode, three words spring to mind immediately: PRECISE, EXHAUSTIVE, and COMPLETE. Exemplary delivery. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Mosyukov… appreciated. I usually think of these three: TIRED, EXHAUSTED, DONE 😜
1.5K likes for 0 dislike,, that's something never seen on YT
Just started watching BTW
Back at it ... sincerely been addicted and craving a new episode like this. Thank you!!!
Pleasure.... glad you stayed around
"...and who wouldn't want that in your own footage?"
*cough* *kUBriCk*
Fincher and most other legendary directors / DPs don't use it either nowadays. Anamorphic is a pain in the butt.
@@jesseyules If you record externally to something like an Atomos, I expect you could have the files pre-de-squeezed
@@artistandcamera3245 not if shooting raw, which is likely if youre shooting with an atomos. the desqueeze comes in the NLE, but the pain part comes mostly from the quirks. the uneven squeeze through the frame, the flaring, aberrations, ect.
@@colinmichels3061 True, the uneven squeeze is probably the biggest problem. You'd probably have to slate what the focus distance is, and desqueeze accordingly. But everyone knows that flares are the only reason to shoot anamorphic :)
@@artistandcamera3245 flares and bokeh ;)
You guys are just the bee's knees when it comes to producing absolute GOAT content.
Had to google halve of that sentence… thanks man… appreciated!! Spread the word please!
scope price is gonna get crazy due to your vid again :)
Hardly... they are bonkers already
Finally!! i was visiting your Channel almost every week to see if there was something new!
It's just sad that bot everyone is meant to get that 😁 this is for crazy cinema lovers like us 😁😁 these videos deserve much more recognition and appreciation
Thanks a lot Alexander.... appreciated. We are all for it!
Guys, I am amazed on how much work you've done here. REAL LOVE, REAL KNOWLEDGE with taste. Love IT!
i hope u give lecture at my campus, passionate and humble person more like bob ross in art of film making
Bob Ross… good one. I will create a "connect the dots" sheet for filmmakers. If your school is willing to pay me… I'm all for it. Why don't suggest it to them?!
i literally cannot believe the quality of the content here and it being free on the internet. this deserves millions of views.
ThanksDaniel… we are all for it… and so far away from it.. a bit sad 😢
i waited until i could get in front of my 77” OLED to experience this masterpiece. you guys are amazing. wow wow wow!
- the anamorphic nutcase -
I watched it after the kids and wife went to bed on my 55" frame. Fanstastic.
always best on a biiiiig screen.... glad you enjoyed. Envy you for that TV though ;-)
@Camilo Pineda glad you did... tour content is often considered abuse by the rest of the family
@@MediaDivision lol
Holy crap you are back. You have no idea how much I love this channel. The most underated channel on youtube. Thank you so much for this invaluable information and thanks one more for sharing your amazing work with all of us.
Never been gone... these just take a ton of time to research, plan, and execute. Very glad you appreciate and enjoy so much. If we had 1000 Kubrick members, we could push out one like this every month
Nice :)
Finally... hoffe Dir geht es gut
Just. Thank. You.!
Media Division's videos are the only ones I specifically set on high 1440p quality (native to my screen) before watching, despite having a slow (
Thanks a lot Mathieu..... I wish you could enjoy on a huge oled with YT set to 8K. You have no idea how much quality is in these beyond 1440p
I feel another bad case of G.A.S. coming. just like after the canon FD series. #LETSGO
@@peaxoop - Just like the Canon FD ssc's several months ago. The media division have a lot to answer for :)
Hardly our fault. We don't make trends… we just make pieces about trends. Ok… the aspherical thing was ridiculous?!?! If we knew before we would have bought all lenses on the market
@@peaxoop naaaaaahhhhhhh
@@MediaDivision - Its is rather insane. Currently there is an aspherical i see yesterday going for £7k. Like, wooowwwwwwww. That’s insane but completely worth it of course.haha. Thank you for always smashing it with what you do.🙏🏽🔥🔥
This was beautiful to watch. Informative and inspiring, Fantastic Work!
Thanks a lot Bigshooter… happy to hear it had that quality for you.
@@MediaDivision are you familiar with Josh Yeo's work? He's a young guy who's interest and ingenuity and work in this space is commendable, he's shot a couple short Anamorphic films and currently has an Orbital Camera Mount and arm system he's working on.
I have seen his channel before... I think we are on very different missions.... but that is a good thing
@@MediaDivision I can very much appreciate and respect that.
absolutely incredible. its a documentary, tutorial/guide and scientific explanation in this movie long video, all shot HELLA professionally. im seriously impressed
Thanks man... appreciated. Wish this one would be more popular.... it surely deserves it more than others
Probably the best video on this topic all over youtube. Unbelievable level of production, keep up the good work!
Masterpiece !!! Best produced videos anywhere on UA-cam or anywhere else. All the information anyone could ever use.
Thanks man… now UA-cam needs to see it the same way 😁 unfortunately it doesn't
I love cinema and everything about it, and so this brilliant knowledge powers my head so strongly that I don't know how to thank this channel. I subscribed within the first few seconds. This would destroy at a film festival, but it is for me. And terms that are too complex for me to understand are beautifully shown so that even though I might never wield more than a telephone camera, but the joy I get that people who think like me make cinema for cinema is pure bliss. Media Division, keep doing what you're doing. Content like this gives me faith in media, entertainment and storytelling.
We are very happy you feel that way and we have that same love for cinema. To be able to give you that, is worth all the effort. Thank you!
this was the first video i stumbled upon and im hooked - the production quality here is insane - bravo
Thanks Devon… very happy you enjoy. We got way more. Binge watch time ;-)
I just wanted to thank you for your channel in general and the service it provides. As a film student it's near impossible to find educational videos of this quality and nonetheless for free. thank you.
Totally our pleasure Aiden... thanks for hanging and spread the word. It is sad that this episode didn’t perform so good.
Let's test this feature
Yes Nikolas.... that works.... you just donated to yourself. Good job
It’s amazing! Wow! Thank you guys!
Thanks Ballroom... much appreciated
Some of the finest content on the platform. Can't say it enough.
Thanks a lot Michael... appreciated. Quick, tell UA-cam!
My friends, you guys continue to knock it out of the park. Your work deserves far more attention, many more views. You've set yourselves apart from the crowd with deeply engaging, entertaining, detailed and well-thought out pieces. I enjoy them so much more than the bulk of material out there. I wish you continued and growing success in you life and endeavors.
Thanks a lot Robert... we are all for it... this subject might be way to nerdy to achieve that goal. We will try to further approve. Nice to have you around on that journey!
This is riveting. Extremely well done. This should be on Netflix.
I am all for it.... tell netflix 😬Thanks a lot!
There is no way this content is just for UA-cam, this must be a reupload from TV or a professional Documentary series - insane quality. Thank you so much for your work
I am all for any TV station to use this... and pay us ;-) thanks a lot will... it is definitely our pleasure.
Incredible you have only 111k subscribers, this could easily be behind a paywall and be worth every cent you charge. Thank you for continuing to bring extremely high quality, informative, humorous, and well produced videos to us rubes.
If it is the 111k right ones I don't mind. We a ´re a niche channel for a niche audience. Totally our pleasure John and thank you for the flowers
I have never clicked on a youtube video faster than when i saw you published a new video! Amazing content. I know i cant afford to buy one of these lenses anytime soon, but i literally lived the experience with you. Thank you so much.

Yeah… quick, tell UA-cam… that might help ;-) Thanks Dr. Wurst
I'm so sorry I didn't click on this video instantly, I'd say I didn't have the time, but really I watch like 2 hrs of UA-cam every day anyway. Next time I see a video I will click it instantly, and watch it all the way through as I did with this one, your content is higher than netflix quality, tbh it's higher than some features I've seen. If this episode had an IMDB page, I'd rate it a 10/10 and I do that with like 2% of the films I watch. Love you guys and I want more!!!
Thanks man... very happy you enjoy. Trying hard to make it educational and entertaining from the first to the last second. Set up that IMDB page please 😜

Jesus H. Christ, this is mind-blowing, jaw-dropping content. I just can’t fathom the amount of research and effort that has gone into this. It’s incredible. Some of the best content I’ve ever seen, and by far the most comprehensive narrative on the history of anamorphic lenses ever produced.
I dread to think how many hours went into this. Some time in the not too distant future, everyone will have heard of Media Division. Thank you for this incredible, much-appreciated content.
Thanks a lot man... really appreciated. Happy you get something out of it. Probably true.... nobody was that stupid ever before 😝
Something like 400 hours? To many for 50K views for sure. Well, you can't win all the time
@@MediaDivision I don’t doubt those hours one bit. The 50k views are simply a measure of exposure of this niche in a saturated digital content medium.
In terms of content quality and viewer value, it’s worth a lot more - and I believe the value will come back to you in more ways than views. Stay the course, my friend, knowing above views and anything else, you are doing unique and spectacular work 👊
Nahh… there are other new and worse pieces by smaller channels making 500K views

Wow. This whole episode blew my mind so much quality. I love what youtube gradually become because of people like you.
Thanks a lot... aways trying to improve. I see a lot of sh... on YT and it's getting worse
Let me put it this way : I love documentaries and educational programs. Yours are in the top tier of the top tier. So much information, presented so clearly, I feel like I've just read ten books on the subject matter every time I watch one of your videos. They say you need to post at least one video a week to "please the algorithm" but no one can ever produce something of this quality every week. I'm glad you're not trying. 76 minutes well spent, and I'm queueing up part 2. I wish you all the best.
Thanks a lot Jean… very glad you are "edutained". There are famous counterexamples to the one per week rule… like "every frame a painting"… so, it is just not true. Anyways. We do surely specialised content for a tiny audience. We can only do that with the support of our members. Thanks for watching!!!
